Feels like a quality lock compared to a lock of cheaper combination locks. Need to remove a screw to change combination which at first felt a bit of a pain, but not as much as trying to figure combination when you’ve accidentally changed it on other locks!
I keep my gym padlock locked onto the outside my gym bag, which helps me to remember to take it (rather than simply keeping it in a pocket somewhere).
Previous locks have required me to constantly lock and unlock the padlock when I’m not actually wanting to secure anything, just to attach it to the bag. Over time all that additional wear has an effect on the digits and you get through more padlocks than you probably should.
The fact that this lock can be closed without actually locking it, and opened again by simply pressing the button on the bottom, is brilliant for gym use. It’s a minor thing but well worth the extra in my mind.
It also feels really well made and I have every expectation that it’s going to last a LONG time.
eally like these padlocks. Have bought the 40mm and 50mm versions. They don’t seem to rust in normal conditions, the mechanism works freely, you cant accidentally reprogram them and the numbers are easier to read than other padlocks I have. The location click maybe could be a bit more pronounced to make it easier to line up but I am being _really_ picky there
Small 4 figure combination locks that I have bought several of to secure water taps and IBC containers. Left out all year round and never had any problems
with them. They just need a drop of oil occasionally to lubricate them. Proved very reliable over the years. Would highly recommend for appropriate security grade usage around the home and garden.
Excellent easy to programme and use lock – we have now purchased 3 of these locks to use at our Church
We bought this for our shed and this one is perfect as is stainless steel! Fits perfectly! And you don’t need a key!
Bit surprised at the size and feel of this for a Squire – which I bought for the name of the brand for quality. Time will tell. Easy to set up, just got to see how it holds up to the English weather.
So far, its kept the nasty people out of where they shouldn’t be. I’m not sure if any have tried, but if they have, it’s worked. Looks like a nice deterrent, feels sturdy, and has a nice action. Probably stronger than the plastic hasp on the shed as well….
Great, does the job, only criticism and it is just a little one the design means you can move the padlock to enter the code so I have to do it at an awkward angle.
Would still recommend
I have 4 of these now. Three 40mm and one 50mm.
The three 40mm locks have been outside for two years and still look and function as good as new.
I recently decided to swap the one on the gate for a 50mm lock, the largest that would fit, for additional security. The first one that was delivered was faulty. It didn’t seem right when I received it, and when I changed the combination it locked and wouldn’t unlock. Returned and received another lock which has been fine.
Fantastic lock, but there may be occasional faulty ones.
Like these little locks come in varying sizes dependant on how secure you want it to be.
Bit fiddly as have to remove screw to set password, numbers small and close togethe
Not had this lock to long but it’s started to get a bit stiff on the last dial and it’s started to oxidise. The other dials are fine. The dials are a bit fiddly to get in a straight line but that’s me just being picky.
It’s a little tricky to set the code because it’s quite small for my fingers but works well and no need for a key.
Good lock, easy to set your own combination and number turn easy enough once unlocking it.
The only negative, is that once you’ve dialled in the combination, you have to press the button on the bottom of the lock to release the shackle. Some which a number of couriers have failed to realise when trying to leave a parcel.
Bought this to lock my pelicase needed something small enough to fit through the pre made holes but also something that won’t be able to get broken into easily. And I think that this meets both needs perfectly. Instructions were easy to follow and in all a great product. Not sure about the weather proofing as I keep it inside
Firstly I will say that this is an item I purchased myself and not part of the Amazon Vine program.
Moved into a new house and I initially purchase one of these but then purchased another a couple of days later. The first being for a side gate, the second for one of those garden storage boxes. I will say from the outset that I am no expert when it comes to padlocks.
These feel fairly sturdy and robust enough to do the job I want them two. I specifically went for the longer shackle as I find them easier to use. These has a 4 digit combination and an interesting way of setting the number. You must push the button on the bottom of the padlock to release the shackle. Then you have to take out a screw on the top of the padlock and pull up the end of the shackle that is still attached to the padlock — it doesn’t come all the way off. You set your combination and then follow the steps in reverse. Your new combination is set.
The tumblers spin without too much effort and it’s easy enough to get them in the correct position for unlocking. Overall, I pleased with them. It’s way too early to say how well they are going to stand up to the elements but we’re into October now, so we’ll see.
I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative, and useful. Thanks for reading.
Here are a few more product photos, and some measurements of the product.
Dimensions. The shackle bar has a diameter of 8mm. When closed, the outermost part of the shackle extends 69.5mm from the body. The inside of the end of the shackle is therefore 61.5mm from the body. There is a screw head protruding which is slightly over a millimetre high. As such, the space between the top of the screw head and the inside of the end of the shackle is about 60mm. The gap between the two sides of the shackle is about 22mm. Measuring across the outside of the two sides of the shackle is about 38mm. The lock body is about 45mm wide. The main part of the lock body is about 51mm long, though there is a lump on the bottom about 2.5mm high, and the button protrudes about a further 1.5mm. The body is about 26mm thick at the thickest point. The centre “bulge” of the lock body is more pronounced at the back than the front. The front of the body is about 11mm forward of the shackle-plane/button-axis whereas the rear of the body is about 15mm back from the shackle-plane/button-axis.
When unlocked, the gap between the top of the body and the inside of the end of the shackle is about 75.5mm. This means that the shackle moves by about 14mm between the locked and unlocked positions. When unlocked, the clearance between the free end of the shackle and the lock body is a little over a millimetre.
Picture: CP50 and CP40 comparison.
I’ve now purchased two of the 40mm and two of the 50mm locks, it’s worth noting that the sizes are quite a bit off, the 40mm is closer to 35mm and the 50mm is closer to 45mm. I like how robust feeling they are, the plastic body should provide a lot of weather protection. An electrophoretic coating on the shackle should help prevent rusting. Be aware that this is a new design that requires a screwdriver (not included) to change the code. Be careful you don’t under tighten the screw (meaning you will be able to change the combination by pushing the button far in) or over tighten which can cause binding and prevent the locking lugs from retracting fully. This lock is harder than most to decode thanks to the fact that it has 9 false gates instead of 3 or 4 on each dial which is very hard to find in a combination lock. As somewhat of a security expert I’m happy to use these locks.
Sizing: the 40mm is better suited for lockers and garden sheds and toolboxes.
I’d highly recommend spending a few more pounds and getting the 50mm unless you really require a smaller size. The 50mm is much heftier, and a whole lot easier to use (dials on the 40mm are quite small and close together so a lot harder to use).
Note that a medium and longer shackle as well as closed shackle versions are available for both sizes of padlock
Would buy again for sure, customer service very friendly and helpful.
