Its exactly as I needed. A metric only tape for my DIY projects. Not sure why inches and feet are still cluttering the tape measures sold in the shops! When was the last time did you see feet and inches in a hardware store?
I needed a compact metric-only tape measure and this one does the job. It is accurate and the locking mechanism so far has worked well.
The only letdown is the plastic casing which does not feel all that durable. I am only a diyer and look after my tools so surely will serve me for a while. Not sure if I would buy it though if I was trade. There are more durable tape measures at a similar price but not metric only.
Works for me and I would buy it again.
I purchased the 5m metric only version. As others have mentioned, the casing lets this tape down. The length of the casing is marked as 2 1/2 inches – which is dumb, and not even accurate (for info, it is infact 64.0mm, not the expected 63.5mm). The shape of the casing is also not clever – all curved or rounded edges or slanted. Why not make the edges square and flat and of a known/easy size. I had a similar looking stanley tape about 30 years ago – metal casing, it gave me very many years of service. Time will tell. I think the Stanley name is not as it was.
Would I have bought it knowing then what I know now: Yes, I think so.
ot having to flip the tape so i can mark my work is so useful it is a small tape so use it for marking up and it is also great for when you need to measure upside down mm on both sides
Really like that because it’s metric numbers are really clear and sow every increment (ie, 9, 10, 11 etc rather than 9, 10, 1).
Only disappointment, which yea I would’ve known if I’d read the description, is that the body is chrome plastic and NOT metal like I was expecting. I guess I should’ve read more carefully and expected as such given the low price. Time will tell how robust it is.
Really really good tape measure. I have dropped mine twice now from a second storey scaffold and apart from a few scrapes on the casing, works like a dream still. Really nice feel and nice, easy to read numbers.
I bought this for my husbands birthday for when he does DIY jobs. He normally shouts at the tape measure because one side was always in inches now he can see everything in centimetres he is so much happie
Looks like a very good product.
You have to use a ‘stanley’ knife to carefully remove it from the packaging!
Remember it’s only metric, even though it goes on about 6 inches in the description! Surely it should say something like 152 cms otherwise it’s confusing. I selected it based on price to replace a 5 metre one than I’ve mislaid.
Tape itself is sturdy but feels a little loosely wound inside. It’s able to extend to about 280cm at a 45 angle before the tape collapses.
It says it’s metric only, but the tape case itself still gives the body as +3″ instead of centimeters, which is a little comical.
Time will tell if the winding mechanism stays strong in spite of it feeling wobbly inside.
Having a metric only tape is brilliant, but the case is add 2 1/4 inches why is this imperial. Do anybody even know how to add 2 1/4 inches to mm/cm. It’s 58mm by the way, Other than that it’s nice to have a little simple tape to have in the pocket.
Good quality with a completely metric scale, so you can mark off the correct length from either edge. Unfortunately if used for internal measurements, such as in a window recess, one has to add the length of the rule body. Easy you say! But the rule body is marked +2 1/2 inches. Not exactly metric and not a convenient number (63.5mm). Poor design.
Be sure you’re aware this is a metric only tape measure.
Amazon States in the description: Blade armor coating on the first 6-inch of the blade reduces the risk of breaking the tape by 95%
But is all I can see some plastic coating up to 78mm on the blade which is only approximately 3.0708″ It’d be easier to measure this in inches if they were printed on the tape.
Now I know nowhere in the description does it mention that imperial is included on the blade, and once you have actually purchased this tape and realised its only metric you can easily go back and look closer at the advert, and of course it doesn’t say 26′ on the side either so its just a lesson in attention to detail.
As tape measures go it measures very very well. provided you only want record those measurements in metric.
The last word in tape measurements! Really is a great tape. Lasts ages, have had my last o e for over 6 years. Would have kept using it o my my 2 year old kinked the blade.
Great tape but it’s metric only. Possibly the best quality tape measure on the market. Pocket size and great spring return. Superb quality coated tape. One odd thing, despite the tape being metric only the casing measurement is imperial and states 21/4″. I would try and get a metric/imperial version if purchasing again.
Used to use a inch and cm FATmax for years doing plumbing. Now doing complete kitchen and bathrooms that include plumbing as well and tile etc work too, not going back to fatmax on my belt. The only down side is that the blade retracts too strong and it bends the first 5cm of the tape. Not a big deal, but it can be improved a hair. Its the second one and will buy again unless find one that does not bent at the tip.
Good handy pocket size. the extra width gives it much greater stability for those awkward one handed measuring jobs. This is my second of these tapes as the first has seen a lot of work and I felt it had to wear out some day. But for now I use them both.
