Good price and great quality. This game it by far (in my opinion) the best game I’ve played in a long while, and the graphics are great! A definite play for any Star Wars fans!
Purchased it for 20.
A number of reviews have flagged up that there is a lot of jumping around and ledges which gets annoying. I started to find this early in the game, however as it progressed this seemed to be less of an issue and you get to enjoy all the new powers that open up as the game progresses.
Enjoyed playing through, but I’m not sure it’s worth replaying through again.
It’s the only game that’s kept him occupied like this since W3, so it must be good. From what I can see when passing, the graphics look beautiful, and it seems to have a nice plot that doesn’t get tired when playing up levels.
If you’ve heard it once you’ve heard it 100 times. This game is the dark souls of Star Wars.
That isn’t just a simple description it literally is.
But that is not a bad thing in fact it is a great thing.
The combat is some of it not the best lightsaber combat I have ever played.
Taking down groups of storm troopers feels amazing.
The exploration and hidden collectibles around the maps are great.
The story is very engaging and a good addition to the Star Wars lore.
One of my favourite parts of the game is I really felt like a Jedi who overtime became a better warrior the progression and story matched perfectly.
It is about 10 hour plus game depending on skill level.
If you like Star Wars and dark souls get this game.
Treated myself to a new game for Christmas and was not disappointed.
The puzzle aspect of the game is straight out of Tomb Raider, but that’s not a bad thing. Those games kept me good for hours, so this is good use of the format. The addition of a lightsaber is excellent! Listen closely to the Storm Troopers as they psyche themselves up for combat… Then chuckle as you strike them down!
Star Wars fans will like this game and there’s plenty to like. The combat can be repetitive, but you can adjust the skill level, so there’s enough challenge, for me at least, and the story is good enough to survive the first run though. It could use a skip cut scene option though, as I’d not found one and would have liked to get on with the game. Some nice celebrity appearances littered throughout the game too.
For the 19 the game is up for now, treat yourself. It’s well worth it.
This game is good and I have enjoyed playing it, but it doesn’t really feel like a star wars game at all. It plays like a tomb raider that happens to be loosely star wars based. There is alot of climbing, jumping and searching and a bit of action. A good solid game. Just don’t expect it to be like “The Force unleashed”.
I’d heard a lot of bad things about this game before I played it. My expectations were low, alas it was lockdown so my requirements for entertainment weren’t exactly high either! Still, I think it’s great game.
The story is really well paced and enjoyable. It’s an incredibly cinematic game which is blighted only by frame rate issues (occasionally, sporadically and only on some consoles – read about that elsewhere!). It also has a nice little turn of events towards the end which I didn’t see coming. I like star wars, but not one of those who cries about things they don’t like, but to my mind this is a proper star wars story.
The graphics are pretty good, the worlds are fun and, I must admit, I got a bit of a “mass effect” feel – the sense of adventure I had in the original.
Gameplay is not challenging really, although I was a bit worried with the “soulslike” elements at the beginning (people who like Dark Souls are not so much gamers as sadomasochists in my opinion!!) but, thankfully, this can be overcome in settings. Actually, the ability to adjust difficulty throughout is good because it allows the challenge of getting better when you want it, with the option to just crack on when you don’t want to reload a level 100 times, to kill some bugs, to unlock a marginally better move, and you know… Get back to enjoying the game.
It’s a good size game – not too brief and not an amateur opera – and all in all I highly recommend it.
Things that could be improved, frame rate issues asside, just two I think:
1. Star Wars fans want to escape tedious reality and feel the can be a Jedi, swing a lightsaber around without cutting an ear off, and generally be a part of that world. With that in mind, I’ve no idea why the main character is so utterly fixed – the beauty of a game rather than a film is that YOU can play it. It would have been great to have had a Mass Effect style ability just to make “Cal” (or even “Cas”!) your own.
2. The making your lightsaber bit felt actually kind of pointless by that stage and had nothing of the significance it had in, say, KOTOR.
Otherwise, the force is strong with this one!
Thanks to EA for bringing the world a Star Wars game that is more than just a bitty, online-only punch-up. As a fan of old titles like ‘Knight of the Old Republic’, a single-player, immersive adventure like this was just the ticket for me. That said, the game is not without its problems. If EA is planning more like this, I’d like to offer some constructive criticism.
First – combat difficulty levels. I’m an old fart and my gamer reflexes are very mid-table by some standards. That said, I’m generally far above the easy-peasy modes, which is where I spend a lot of my Fallen Order time. It’s just too difficult to time parries and use force powers – particularly against animals – without getting killed, a lot. I learned the game’s ways eventually but I’m still mostly limited to ‘Jedi Knight’ level. Even on my second run-through, I can’t nail a boss scene without taking it all the way down to kindergarten level. An unfortunate effect of all this is that a cagey, defensive combat style which avoids frequent death and tedious back-tracking also stops you generating and using the force powers which are really the key appeal of the game.
Second – interminable cut-scenes that go on and on and on and can’t be skipped. Please give the gamer the choice about whether they want to watch the cinematic links. They don’t always enrich and can simply frustrate.
Third – puzzles. As an Assassin’s Creed aficionado, I quickly learned that the third-person mayhem of Fallen Order is only superficially similar to AC Odyssey, et al. Not only is the combat trickier and less intuitive, but there is far more head-scratching and problem-solving to be tackled simply to get from A to B. I learned to enjoy this aspect – apart from one or two scenes I simply couldn’t crack without YouTube. I’d ask EA to make the cutesier problems a bit less obstuse. Examining one room for twenty minutes isn’t my idea of a good time, nor is repeatedly failing an impossible jump because I’m new to the game and don’t realise I’ll be coming back to the location later with more powers.
That’s it. This game comes pretty close to classic, but the frustration needs to be dialled down.
A game that is both excellent and frustrating. Fun to play and quite a lengthy game which will take considerable time to fully explore. However it does contain a number of annoying bugs so I would recommend regular saving. Also trying to find your way back to the Mantis spaceship can be frustrating and annoying. However none of these things significantly spoil it. Lots to do, planets to explore, monsters to kill, empire forces to defeat. The force powers you gain as you go along really help. One word of warning. After visiting Bogano for the first time you have choice to go to Zeffo or Dathomir. Do not go to Dathomir. You don’t really have necessary skills that early on in the game and you can get irretrievably stuck at one point Especially if you have just saved the game at this point. In which case you may have to start all over again. Go to Zeffo after Bogano. Also on my Xbox One X there were performance issues in 4K. Not too many and apparently there is an option to run at 1080p with only a slight reduction in graphics. Never done this but I’m told it helps.
All time amazing game would highly recommend this to anyone the games quality is ace and the story line draws you in I bought for my partner who loved it but of course me being a star wars fan had me watching him play the whole thing loving every second and he played the game with no trouble. don’t waste time deciding if this is the game for you because trust whats not to love.
Released in a finished state, no in game slot machines, no prompts to spend more money.
Looks good, plays well, completed the game 100% and only one crash. Satisfying combat and a story that gets much better as it goes on (much better than the new trilogy)
If you have a spare 24-28 hours I would highly recommend the sh*t out of this game. Want to be a jedi?! Well hold on to your butts because that’s exactly what’s going to happen. Storm Trooper shooting at you? Force push that guy down a revine! Nasty spider trying to web you, throw your light saber at that MF! You better believe there’s a sh*t tonne of chests to find. Best be subscribed to youtube because you will be on there trying to find the solution to the mad ass puzzles these guys throw at you! Looking forward to the next one, hopefully Cal’s balls would have dropped and have a better getup than those dandy ass ponchos he’s so keen on wearing. May the force be with you!
Not perfect but some beautifully created cinematic sequences. It’s a game that is blurring the lines between movies and game play.
Controls are easy to get used to, even for younger players and the storyline is long enough. Unlikely that there is much replay-ability.
This game is quite possibly the best game I’ve ever played! I would still recommend it to people new to Star Wars but the game is more enjoyable when you understand Star Wars as a whole. The storyline and free play are so much fun and the game is just beautiful to walk through. You grow to love and understand every character just like an actual Star Wars movie. I would definitely encourage EA to make more Star Wars games like this!
Game is absolutely fantastic. I would only have one criticism. As I’m generally used to rpgs I did finish this game in a weekend. Granted I did play it about 18 hours a day. Lightsaber Combat is fantastic. Graphics are great.
If you enter this game expecting a revamped force unleashed, prepare to be surprised. This game takes the core combat elements of that game such as developing force abilities and new lightsaber skills and merge this with the puzzle filled story. There are occasional boss fights that are difficult to the average gamer on higher difficulties.
All in all I would absolutely recommend this game.
Bought as a gift for my partner he was really happy receiving it, I’ve watched him play and it has great game play, very well designed and as you become a Jedi warrior u gain more skills, it’s similar play as Tomb Raider finding clues and interacting with other characters, it has a huge game map and is also great to watch being played with all the Star Wars sound effects and great graphics I would 100% recommend this, if u love Star Wars this is a must have game!
It’s been a while since Jedi Knight, Jedi Academy – the Kyle Katarn saga – and while the Force Unleashed series was welcome, it didn’t have the tactical saber combat I was looking for.
The Fallen Order takes it to a whole new tactical level of combat. You can’t hack and slash your way through enemies, healing as you go. Nor can you just hold down block and wait for an opening, then rinse and repeat. You need to dodge, roll, jump, parry, use Force powers and then you get to do maybe one or two slashes before going back on defence again. Enemies are rock hard, even on medium difficulty, and they have a variety of moves to confuse you – some un-blockable and highly damaging. Many times in the first 5 hours or so I was getting killed by a single creature, or two of them – but persevere and it’ll get better.
Saving is done in specific points in the map on a planet, and when you rest to recover health, all enemies re-spawn except bosses. This makes it annoying to backtrack through a planet – and you will be a lot when you unlock more Force powers to get you into other parts of the map. There are lots of collectables for those looking to reach 100% (like me) but they’re not hugely rewarding – some of them increase health and amount of Force you can use – but most are costumes or colours for your ship or droid.
The game length is good – I’d say about 20 to 25 hours if you really explore, and waste time back-tracking like I do. If you blat through the story and not bother exploring then maybe 15. It feels like it has some replay value, but only to experience the combat again rather than finding new things you didn’t discover on the first run through.
I haven’t followed the plot closely – I have a general idea of what I’m doing and why, but I’m not bothered by it. Just the fact it’s based in the Star Wars universe in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope is enough story in it’s own right. This is an action game above all else – and it does that bit very, very well.
very good game was not expecting it to be good took me 1 hour to really start enjoying the game and then couldn’t put the game down until finally finishing it. would hope they do additional content as would love to play more of this great game! Loved the story and gameplay 9/10
Finally! An excellent single player StarWars game, it’s been a while since we had one of those! An excellent story, set after the events of episode 3, you play the part of a young Jedi who is on the run after Order 66 and the Jedi Purge. Gameplay combines the best of Assassin’s Creed style movement with DarkSouls type combat. You can backtrack through explored areas as you gain new abilities, revealing new areas and collectables as well as experience a genuinely good story set in the StarWars universe. One that diehard fans MUST experience, but that will be enjoyed by newcomers too, I’d recommend it to everyone, even those disillusioned by recent developments with the StarWars franchise. Don’t miss it!
If your a Star wars fan this game is an absolute must, not only is it probably one of the best Star Wars games ever made but its close to being one of the top games I’ve ever played on Xbox, a fantastic story that captures the magic of the movies in every way, the campaign is very long and will take you much longer than your usual game of this type, (but that also depends on how many hours a day you play for) the story is very well played out with your character building upon their skills as you progress through the game, by the time your finished you will be a fully skilled Jedi, there are several planets you will explore as the story unfolds, every planet is lush to look at with beautiful scenery and art, the graphics are very detailed, all the creatures and droids look amazing as do the characters, you will find yourself pit against stormtroopers and biker scout troopers and new purge troopers sent by the inquisitors who are ordered by Darth Vader himself to find and kill the Jedi’s. You will also be able to customise your look and lightsabre as you progress too, the action in the game is great, lots of combo force moves you can perform as the story goes on too, if you like collectables in games there are plenty in this, tons of things to find hidden over the planets you visit, some are small areas some are huge and you will repeat locations too so its best to remember them, the action in the game is much like tomb raider in a way with some climbing and well timed jumps etc and some puzzle work in places, maybe a little frustrating at times but overall its an amazing experience and by the end you will be blown away, especially the amazing cameo at the end of the game too. A must for fans of Star wars or just an awesome 3rd person hack-em up puzzler action game too.
The game can be played on easy to difficult settings
plenty of collectables to find throughout for the extra generous achievement of 100g
most achievements are collected through playing the story but you will certainly want a second play through to mop up the others, you do have the opportunity to continue exploring after the story ends if you missed anything.
After years of disappointing & mediocre games (movies too) EA have finally nailed it.
Plays like a mix of Uncharted & Sekiro with great graphics, acting, music & gameplay.
No infamous micro transaction & no in-game loading screens. The way the game takes you from planet to planet is a joy to behold. I wasn’t even put off by the hero being played by & modelled on Cameron Monaghan (Jerome from Gotham). Highly recommended.
Thanks to Respawn Entertainment for bringing a decent Star Wars game in a decade, and also proving that single-player games are still viable, to EA and to the whole gaming industry. But this might not be for everyone. Think of it as a mix of Soul games and Unchartered. The game can be challenging but you can switch the game difficulty at any point. Some potential of replicability with different paths and tree skills. Downside a lot of backtracking, and some fps drops but nothing major.
This is the best Star Wars game I’ve played since the force unleashed from back in the day, I know there is concerns about EA putting microtransactions within the game but fear not there isn’t any thank goodness just solid single player gameplay..
So if you’re a star wars fan then this is definitely a must buy.
