First of all this game is beautiful, the board the pieces the 3D tree the whole thing is lovely to look at – the game itself is maximum 4 players and we play as a family with our youngest being 6 (but generally good at board games) the game can last a while so allow a good 90mins or so although I guess it would be quicker with 2, hard to explain the game it’s basically about using resources to built a community – send your worker to get wood – build a farm – get a farmer (or a Court and a Judge or a School and a Teacher) etc then each building or character adds points and perks to your community / city – you play 4 similar but not identical seasons and then tot up your scores – the whole game is made super cute due to all of this being based in a woodland creature theme so you have mice, badgers, rabbits, bats, moles all with jobs that suit their animal persona – superb game not for the faint hearted this is not ‘roll a dice move so many places turn over a card’ kind of gameplay it is a little complicated and quite strategic but super engaging and easy to learn – highly recommended one of our absolute favourites
Was a bit cautious about buying this game, as it didn’t look like my kind of game. After reading so many reviews and comments about it, I decided to buy it and I’m glad I did. A fantastic game that is family oriented and fun. At first it looks daunting but very easy to pick up. There are great YouTube videos to help.
Very cute and great fun. Very high quality components – that make the game more engaging – and worth the price. The rules are probably slightly too complex for very young children but the basic rules are covered in just a few pages – the variety comes from the text on the cards – so older children will have no trouble and the learning curve is not steep at all. There are also multiple expansions if you want to increase the complexity and length of the game – but the base game is great on its own and the ultra cute theme makes it a firm family favourite.
Lovely game. Rules are fairly straight forward and after watching a video on YouTube it was fine. Nice gameplay. Deciding what to do each turn is tricky and working out what cards you want to play also get the brain ticking!
The artwork is stunning and the characters superb.
There are expansion sets if you get bored but haven’t needed to look at them yet as still working out core tactics.
I like how the game design and mechanics fit satisfyingly well around the central theme of building a flourishing forest city. The art design on the playing cards is delightfully cute, and the pairing of critters with their corresponding construction in the artwork is a lovely feature.
I’ve mostly played the 2-player game with my partner, but have also played with 3 or 4 players, where more of the unique cards and events can be showcased per game. A single player option is also available.
Once players are familiar with the rules, each person’s individual turn is relatively short, so that the game can progress fairly quickly without people getting bored waiting for their turn. There are good videos available online explaining the rules in around 20 minutes or less, and I would generally recommending checking these out so you can try before you buy. The paper rulebook provided also contains more artwork and lore about the game world.
My family and friends have enjoyed playing this game together multiple times, so I would say this represents decent value for money. Overall quality and durability of the physical pieces (cards, resource markers, player markers, board) is very good, though I would recommend taking care when constructing the Evertree part of the board as this is the most easy part to accidently damage due to frequent construction and deconstruction.
This is a seriously beautiful game with great worker placement game mechanics, like a cuddly version of lords of waterdeep but with seasons and other things thrown in. Really recommended!
bought for my son who really likes these type of games, played it twice, both times took 2hrs! it supposed to take around 80 minutes anyway! would probably get quicker once used to playing, saying that it is a good game, just a little too many choices/options in each round
Great game, took a few turns to fully grasp and learn the right ways, but now we’ve got the hang of it, we love it! The game itself is beautiful, but also have great mechanics. I’ve played a few solo games and that seems impossible currently, but I think I need to learn a few more tricks.
We absolutely love Everdell, It has to be one of our favourite board games. Bellfaire is the most reasonably priced expansion and it adds some great new features such as the marketplace. The main reason for picking this expansion over the others has to be that it turns Everdell from a 4 player to a 6 player game.
Gave this as a gift to a couple who love board games, as well as woodland animals, so this ticked both boxes easily. They thoroughly enjoyed their first game and will be playing more. The artwork is really nice and the parts have a quality feel.
Recently discovered the best game ever EVERDELL and this expansion pack allows us to play upto 6 people now (instead of 4)
Great extra options and cars, makes the game even more exciting now.
This game is wonderful! The design with all the little critters is beautiful, the big 3D tree makes it look like a piece of art, the gameplay is so much fun! The cards add an element of luck and ensure that no two games are the same, but you also need to use strategy.
Works great for two players but will certainly also be fun with friends once the Pandemic is over.
Not very aggressive gameplay. Most of the time each player is working on their own thing, you can get in the way of each other but there is only little opportunity to directly “attack” the other player(s) – which is a plus for me as I often don’t like to have to risk all my hard earned supplies in a fight in a strategy game.
Rules are simple (just take resources with your workers and play the cards, but you have to decide what is your priority because you have got just few workers and you need more resources) and so many choices how to win. I recommend to play the game with more expansions, its more fun and more choices.
There’s a reason Everdell is shooting up the BGG ranks so quickly – this game is fantastic! Now, don’t let the “cutesy” critters fool you, this is a game with a lot of depth. It’s beautifully presented, the components are absolute top notch quality and a joy to play!
It’s blend of worker placement, engine and tableau building work perfectly together and whilst the cards take some learning, to understand how things synergise, after a couple of games you’re off to the races.
Great game! Also beautifully crafted. Complex enough for dedicated gamers, but can be played by those who just want a fun game that involves squirrels, turtles and a 3-D tree.
My partner and I are always after board games we can play with just the two of us, as it’s difficult to get a group together. Many games purport to have a two-player mode, but the game really suffers. This, however, is wonderful in a two player mode. The game has a lot of components, so it’s intimidating, but it’s actually quite easy to learn and we got the hang of it very quickly. This calls itself a worker-deployment game, but I actually found it more similar to a deck-building game. Lots of fun and variety! I highly recommend this game. I can’t comment on the modes with more than 2 players, but I imagine it retains the fun.
I’ve got this game recommended, and I’m super happy that I’ve decided to buy it. Graphics are phenomenal, material tokens are surprisingly well made. I can’t wait for all expansions to be available here.
In my opinion this game is overpriced and I don’t get the tree thingy. I mean, it’s a fun game… but if you are a board game geek like us… well, you have played already similar games that are less pricey and as good as Everdell. The components of the game look very nice, which I guess makes this game more pricey… but oh, the font is so small and uncomfortable to read, hopefully they will fix that in future editions?
The game arrived in perfect conditions and on time (even if it was in Christmas season), so very thankful about that!
Love this game. So easy to play and enjoyable. Many different ways to play it many different combinations to score points. Art is fantastic. Only complain is the tree that is lovely but assembling it every time get the cardboard piece worn out and now I don’t use it anymore. It does not affect the game itself. Highly recommended entry level board game.
