Not good for people like.me who used imperial measures, however, most recipes are in grams ect; as my daughters say I need to get into the digital age; I see nothing wrong with the old measures but maybe that is just me. All this being said the scales look good in my kitchen and match my toaster, food mixer and bread bin.
Looks great on our counter, weighs accurately enough, not massively expensive. 10 out of ten.
Lovely vintage style scales that look the part as well as are very functional. They would look great in any kitchen, and are attractive enough to sit out on the works surface. Seem fairly accurate in their measuring. Nice little set.
We’re really pleased with these retro scales, which work well and have provided a real talking-point in our kitchen. Five stars.
Very nice scales from Swan that are very accurate despite the more traditional set up and the matching traditional look of full proper kitchen scales from years ago before the digital age – they look really nice and goes very well with other items from this range or any other bits you have in a similar shade, which is really nice. Kind of quality you expect form Swan and a really nice addition to the kitchen so would definitely recommend.
This review concerns the Swan SWKA1062BLN Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale, Blue, price at review 37.99. Available. In a range of subtle colours and coming from an established brand leader this is smart retro kitchen scale complete with stainless steel mixing bowl. Offering a maximum capacity of 8kg marked with 50g increments and a large easy-read dial it makes for a fully functional, basic scale in a form factor of yesteryear. Easy initial adjustment by a small knob it offers a great alternative to modern digital devices.
Lovely looking retro scales that seem robust and very well made. They feel sturdy and solid and make a nice change from our usual flat, plastic scales. I’m happy for this to be left out on the counter as it looks so nice. Easy to read and a helpful list of measurements on them too so it’s always handy when working out ingredients. Easy to clean and keep looking as good as new. Happy to recommend.
his is a retro style mechanical kitchen scale from the brand swan, there are a great amount of items in the swan retro range, all in beautiful pastel blue colour, this kitchen scale is one of them
this scale has a max of 8kg capacity, more than general 5kg electronic kitchen scale in the market, it got a stainless steel mixing bowl, placed very steady with the scale, easy to clean, make this scale convenient for kitchen use, now i don’t need to weight the bowl and set reading to zero every time before use
i compared its reading to my old electronic kitchen scale, the readings are similar, pretty accurate for a mechanical scale
it definitely occupies more space than electronic scale, but mechanical scale is beautiful (could be used as decoration) and also fun to use
i’m very happy with this product, would recommend
hope you find these information helpful
The Swan scales arrived safely, and they come well packed inside a premium looking and well-illustrated retail box which would make a lovely gift for someone. A small amount of assembly is required before first use but its very simple and only takes a few minutes.
The first things I like about the scales is just how nice they look and how good quality they are. The scales are very well made with a really nice finish to both the metal and paintwork, they have a good amount of weight to them and grip well to my worksurface thanks to the rubber feet. It’s a shame the legs are plastic, but they still look good and seem strong. The whole unit is easy to wipe to clean and the bowl can be put into the dishwasher.
The measurements are easy to read thanks to the sharp, clear dial and the fact it weighs up to 8kg makes it really useful, not just for weighing food but I can use it for my parcels too. The bowl is large enough to hold pretty much anything that you’re baking and there are even some handy measurements on the rear of the scales for reference. A wheel near the top of the scales can be used to zero the dial to cancel any additional weight you may add onto it.
Overall, if you like retro scales and want some that not only look great but are high quality then look no further than these ones from Swan. They tick all the right boxes, and I can’t fault them one bit therefore I feel they represent good value for money. It’s certainly a product I’m more than happy to recommend and I feel they are worth the full five stars, buy with confidence!
These scales look really good, I love the retro look they have about them. Easy to set up and use and they seem pretty accurate. They’re easy to clean too which is great. Not a bad price.
Nice retro design adding a bit of character to the kitchen. Looks great and matches most countertops with its stainless steel and grey finish. No batteries needed and no digital display, which is great as I am always a lot more trusting of mechanical scales and find a lot of digital ones differ in weight from one another ever so slightly.
This comes in a few parts all packed nicely and wrapped to avoid any scratches in handling. There was some assembly required which I did not expect, but any screwdriver will do as you have to take out some screws and replace them. It’s very easy and straightforward to do and is not really a problem.
The display is nice and large and very clear including grams and kilograms for weighing out larger quantities of items. You can adjust the needle back to 0 every time you add something to the dish, and with its 8 kilogram size this has plenty of room to weigh out everything from bread dough, to cake batters all in one dish.
I love the retro styling of these scales and I have a gloss cream kitchen so was hoping they would be the ideal match. Unfortunately, the colour is a little on the yellow side in comparison to my kitchen but it’s certainly not immediately noticeable and wouldn’t put me off purchasing.
Out of the box the plate needed screwing on which was quick and simple.
The scales seem accurate and are ideal for my baking. They are large capacity and because of this the bowl is much larger. I will be keeping out on display but worth noting if you’re short on space.
There’s also a handy measurement guide on the back of the scale.
Good quality product, stylish looks – would recommend!
These are a very nice “retro style” set of scales. Very easy to assemble and set up.
Excellent build quality and accuracy. They look fantastic. My only minor gripe would be the plastic feet.
But it is not a deal breaker.
This is a great retro scale, I love the design and colour of this and feel it looks really elegant on my kitchen side.
The dish itself is a decent size meaning you can get a nice amount of ingredients in them to weigh unlike previous ones I have had in the past.
Overall I am happy with these and for the current price of 40.99 this seems reasonable.
This is such a stunning Retro Mechanical Kitchen scale by Swan and it looks even nicer when matched with the other kitchen appliances and utensils in the Retro Swan range. I love that the green isn’t overpowering yet too dull, the surface of the scale has a beautiful glossy finish which makes the scale look and feel premium.
As for the actual functionality, it works perfectly and as expected. The scale can be re-adjusted by twisting the knob found on the top surface of the scale (below the bowl). This is to account for the bowls weight and ensure you are measuring the weight from 0gr (equilavant to Tare weight).
The weight is easy to read and estimate thanks to the incremental lines, etc. You can put a max of 8kg on the bowl at the time which in my opinion is more than enough. If you need more accurate readings it may be worth getting a digital scale. But for general cooking with measurements rounded to every 50grs this is perfect.
Excellent quality and striking design. 5 stars!
Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! 🙂
Kitchen scale with stainless-steel mixing bowl
Measures in grams and kilograms
Max capacity 8kg
Graduates in increments of 50g
Large dial for easy reading
had to do a bit of set up first, great retro look, does take a permanent pace up on your kitchen work top
This looks great in our kitchen as it’s traditional.
This is a lot bigger than I expected but I still love it.
Nice lovely colour and will last my lifetime and more, not like the digital scales that I had
Works perfectly and is pretty accurate.
To be honest, I got it more for the style as I love the desig
This is just as aesthetically pleasing as I was hoping. It looks great. The quality matches too. It has clearly been manufactured to a high standard. It is a decent weight and doesn’t feel cheap. I like how the feet are rubberised so it doesn’t move around accidentally, it’s nice and sturdy.
In terms of functionality it is exactly as I expected. It weighs accurately without any issue.
It was a surprise to have to build this. It didn’t contain any instructions. It is quite a simple process though.
These scales are somewhat of a statement piece, by that I mean you would leave them out on display as they look great, most people would find storing them away a bit of a hassle due to their size.
They come well boxed with just enough packaging to protect the three pieces that they come in, they do require a little bit of assembly — remove two screws and then put the same two screws back in to hold a metal plate that cradles the main bowl. The look, feel and appearance is stunning (heavy / well built) apart from the plastic feet which is a bit of a let-down. The feet are the same grey colour of the main body, but it just feels a bit of a bit of a shame the metal wasn’t carried through.
In use the scales only offer metric, my mum was disappointed that they didn’t do lbs and oz’s, but I’ve assured her she will get used to it in no time. The 8kg max weight is more than enough and the stainless-steel bowl is ample in size.
For the price and quality I think most people would be happy with their purchase.
Need to weigh something? How about some retro scales?
These are the Swan Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale in grey, also available in cream, blue or green. Measures 24.2 x 18.5 x 22cm. Some assembly required.
These scales need some assembly, you will need to unscrew the two top screws, remove plastic counter balance and then screw on lid top. Once on, you will need to place measuring bowl on and then set scales by turning the fine tuning knob.
These scales reek quality, they are made of solid stainless steel, the dial is measured in Grams / Kilograms, and goes up in rates of 20g.
On the rear you get a cup to spoon to fluid ounces to millilitres measurement chart engraved. So that is really handy!
The measuring bowl is lovely too, as it is solid and really big. One grumble perhaps it could do with a lip, but that is just personal preference for pouring.
I just need to buy the kettle and toaster now for the set!
Overall I thoroughly recommend these scales, whether they are for you or as a gift. They are gorgeous.
I love my scales, modern but with the traditional look. Stays accurate and the weighing dish is a good size and shape and easy to clean.
Really useful kitchen scales, not quite as accurate as digital scales but great for general use and no batteries to worry about.
This is a lot bigger then I expected but I still love it.
Nice lovely colour and will last my lifetime and more, not like the digital scales that I had
They’d look perfect in any style kitchen, whether modern or traditional.
They work perfectly and are very exact. But to be honest, I bought them more for the style of them
Amaizing scales, so satisfied to have it.
Looks cool, like an retro style.
Perfect for home or shop use.
Weight limit is 8 kg.
For that price definetly worth to buy it.
Highly recommending.
If you prefer the old fashioned look in your kitchen, this Swan Retro Mechanical Kitchen Scale is possibly a good fit. It’s a big old thing with a solid look to it and a large, easy to read display as well as a spacious measuring area on top.
The unit came in several parts, you first need to screw the top piece on before you can use it. With no instructions in the box you’re left to guess how this goes on but thankfully it’s fairly straight forward. The adjustable wheel under the top part allows you to set the weight to zero even with something on top, so you can remove the extra weight added by containers.
We’ve used this for our baking and checking against another scale it seems to be pretty accurate for measuring. It’s quite large, though, so you do need to make sure you’ve got the space to store it when not in use, but this does mean it’s easy to read the display.
These are scales to leave out on the worktop as a kitchen ornament- they look that good.
They are easy to use and accurate in their measurements.
The look is a polished old fashioned style that can still sit happily in a modern kitchen.
I like these kitchen scales l lot, but even without the massive bowl, this item is far larger than I thought. The overall look is appealing, but the hard plastic legs don’t do it justice. I opted for the grey scales (now I thinking about Game of Thrones) as I think this was complimented by the silver metal better than the other colour options. These retro scales aren’t that retro though as they only show grams and kilograms. If you have a small kitchen or prefer an option of ounces and pounds these ‘retro’ kitchen scales aren’t for you.
