Very easy and quick to set up and it works as described in my greenhouse. I can connect from about 50m away in a direct line from inside my kitchen and landing with no obstructions as stated. I haven’t tried it from any further distance away because it’s not possible in a direct line. It’s handy and interesting to be able to see how the temperature and Humidity varies over a 24 hour period and how the humidity increases as the temperature decreases in the early hours of the morning. It makes it easy to judge when to open the upper doors to reduce the heat.
Great product.
Pity the Amazon prime day deal is worse than the price I paid in the last month.
Why would any loyal customer pay more under such misleading adverts? Shame on you.
Only had this a few days but already bought two more. So far, pretty impressed; seems accurate and App is very handy to check temperature around the house and greenhouse.
Nice looking, however bluetooth is inadequate, set up about 15m from my operating position and has problems updating .
Not very confident about the readings but should be ok to judge what is required by looking at the humidity %
As usual, a quality product from ThermoPro.
I review the larger device (TP393), which cost 22 with a coupon. The hardware is as sturdy as ever, with useful features from older models such as the combination of robust pull-out stand – unlike some devices which stick a strip of plastic shakily in the back and call that a stand – and two magnetised pads so that the device can be attached to a metal surface if required. The USB-C charging port is on the back right and there are three buttons; power on/off, Fahrenheit/Celsius and Bluetooth on/off.
The screen is big and well-lit, so the digits are large, with a touch button – very light touch – at the bottom of the screen to switch the orange backlight on for about 10 seconds. Only time (hours and minutes without seconds) and day (not date) are shown, as well as temperature and humidity. There is a comfort indicator (dry/comfort/wet), trend arrows and indications of the Bluetooth signal power and device battery level.
The particularly clever part is smartphone integration. Download the ThermoPro Sensor app, pair the device and the device time and day are automatically synchronised to the smartphone. This is accurate to the second – no more wayward internal clocks or flaky radio time signals. I predict that a lot more devices will do this in the future. (That said, there is no way to set the time/day using the device; you must have a smartphone).
After that, any contact between app and device downloads temperature and humidity values over time and displays them on a graph. At the top of graph there are instantaneous temperature and humidity values plus charge level and signal strength indicators. The bugs various users have mentioned appear to have been fixed in the latest version (2.4 on iOS); certainly I have no issue with the app.
Its only deficiency (on iOS) is that the options to switch between one day, seven days and one year displays are too close to the bottom of the screen; trying to touch them can accidentally start to minimise the app on iOS. (The one year display is the same as the seven days display except that the graph can be dragged left or right to cover any time period). A nice-to-have would be data export.
Unusually, the Android app is better designed, with clearer graphs.
The marketing implies that the device can store one year of temperature and humidity values. We shall see how that goes; in my experience this type of storage always rolls over, often without warning. There is a combination of (six) key presses on the device which explicitly wipes the internal memory.
Unusually, the device was fully charged on receipt. A small issue with charging is that there is no indication that the device is actually charging – you plug it in using the short USB-C to USB-A cable provided (no adaptor supplied) or a similar cable and, eventually, the number of bars on the battery level increases. Even the backlight coming on momentarily to show that charging had started would have been helpful.
The device uses Bluetooth LE and, according to its specification, the amount of power that uses is tiny – far less than the backlight. It will be interesting to find out how long the full charge lasts; it took about 6 weeks for the battery indicator to go down from 4 to 3 bars.
Overall, this is a quality indoor device and well worth paying a bit more for. If ThermoPro produced a similar indoor/outdoor device, combining Bluetooth LE for ease of setup and use and some form of wireless for the outdoor signal, they would have a winner.
Brilliant purchase, glad I spent a bit more on this. The app that comes with it is awesome and keeps a log of the temp and humidity during the day, months and years.
The device seems fine and easy to use. I’ve had it for just over a week.
It stores at least minute-by-minute data over the last 24 hours and the last year’s 1-hour snapshots (24 readings per day).
The app could do with a few enhancements:
– It defaults to displaying imperial units and has to be reminded every day that actually I would like metric.
– It lags behind the latest data by up to an hour, even after I tell it explicitly to refresh
– It only shows me graphs: I can’t display the data in a table
– It does not allow the data to be exported at all, so to put it into a spreadsheet for further analysis, I have to manually scroll through the graphs.
– The 1 week and 1 year graphs do not seem to be zoomable or panable. This is fine for the 1-week graph but I’d imagine it could make the 1-year graph difficult to query (I’ve only had it for a week so I can’t be sure).
It would be perfect except for its extreme sensitivity to sunlight. The 41 degree spike in the photo shows the effect of evening sunlight hitting one corner of the unit. However, keep it in the shade at all times of the day and it works great. This makes greenhouse use a challenge but it does work OK once you’ve got the shading sorted.
The unit is surprisingly well-built, with a quality, legible display. Most domestic hygrometers are so inaccurate as to be useless (+/- 5% RH), but this unit, it is claimed, is accurate to +/- 2%. Because the sensor chip is manufactured by the highly-regarded Swiss company Sensirion.
The Android app paired via bluetooth easily and rapidly. It’s not quite as user-friendly, intuitive and elegant as it could be, but at least it works well, is not buggy and looks pretty good, whereas most other products’ supporting apps these days are dreadful.
Very useful for remote temperature monitoring of a building which is used from time to time. Very useful to see temperature over a week and work out when to put on heating. Hygrometer not used, so cannot comment.
I can not comment on the accuracy as I do not have a calibrated meter to compare it to. However I am impressed with its sensitivity which seems very good. I am also not sure of the humidity value as it seems to be an inverse of the temperature graph. As I purchased this in the middle of winter I will reserve judgement on the humidity until we have some hot weather and the greenhouse is being watered.
One thig it has been invaluable for is indicating overnight frost, we are now into April and still having frost overnight. (North east Scotland)
One thing I would like to see on it is the ability to download the graphs to my PC. It would then be possible to load files in year/months and save them for future comparison. eg latest frost.
All in all, I am very pleased with it and the first thing I do every morning is press “update” to find out the overnight conditions. It sometimes changes from C to F but this is just annoying rather than a problem as it only requires entering settings and pressing C.
Purchased this as I had a model that wasn’t wireless and wanted this to test out in my toddlers room before installing in the loft. So far so good seems fairly accurate and stable. I like the ability to add alarms for humidity and temperature too.
Originally purchased this for the screen size, display info and the back-light. Great sensor and works really well. I liked it enough to purchase another one so I could have one in each bedroom.
I needed the humidity info most of all and was pleased this is prominently displayed at the top.
The units fairly small in size seem really sensitive to changes and will show an arrow indicating whether it is trending higher staying the same or lowering. Can be wall hung, stuck on a metal surface with the strong magnet on the back or by using the table kick stand.
After downloading the ThermoPro App to my iPhone13, It found both sensors via Bluetooth and connected very quickly.
Regarding the ThermoPro App itself, I particularly find the historical data showing how the levels of humidity and temperatures have fluctuated over the last 24hrs “extremely” useful. But, you can’t scroll back further to the previous 24hrs and so on unfortunately. Maybe this will come in a future App update. I put forward this suggestion to the App developers to add this.
It will only show the highs and lows (a summary?) of the recent 1 week or 1 year on separate tabs at the bottom. 1 year view does scroll back however _()_/ .
I have found I needn’t have purchased this particular model with the larger display and backlight now I’m using the App (ThermoPro do another Sensor that uses the App without backlight).
It is easier to look at both sensors via the App from anywhere in the house and not the sensor directly, plus the sensor only shows what the current humidity and temp are at that moment in time you are looking at it.
My son does like having the info from the sensor display in his room and I can see the info without going in! He now leaves his window open on vent longer than he used to. The whole house is better from having these units as it has changed our habits somewhat by reacting to the information we are now presented with.
Very well built units and highly recommended!
I bought this because the accuracy of measurement was far better than cheaper offerings.
The display is very clear.
I did not think I would use the link to the app, but it is supringly interesting to see how the temperature varies across the days as we get colder.
Occasionally the Bluetooth connection to extract the data seems a bit hit and miss, but it always works in the end.
You can see 24 hours, a week or a year.
I heartily recommend it, you get a lot more for a tiny bit more cost.
Agonised a bit before choosing this, as some reviewers had encountered problems with connecting to app over bluetooth, but we’ve not had any such problems – connects easily to my iPhone SE, app does what it needs to do, without crashing, so all good on that score. The meter seems pretty accurate in terms of agreeing with our thermostat, but I suppose the main things we wanted it for was to be able to see how temp & humidity varied across the day, which it does perfectly.
It is compact and robust, and seems to give accurate & consistent readings. Large easy to read display and graphical presentation over 24 hour, 7 day and 12 month periods. Bluetooth pairing to phone and other devices is straightforward.
Unfortunately there does not seem be a facility to download daily, weekly and annual data to phone, tablet or computer for analysis. Surely not too hard to incorporate in the next model?
Excellent product, the app is great but there are a few things that could improve with newer releases.
The range of the bluetooth for me is not quite as good as I’d hoped for. Mine is in an aluminium greenhouse that leans to a brick garage. On the far side of the garage to the greenhouse and thermometer, I have to be within 10m order for it to connect and update the graphs within the app.
Got one of these for my husband to monitor the temperature after installing a new multi fuel burner. He was so impressed with it and being able to link it to his phone that he wanted to order more. We now have three of these in different areas of the house and we can see how the stove is impacting on the temperature of not only the room where it is situated but on other areas of the house. They appear accurate in the temperature they record and the app is easy to use.
In todays hard times it’s important to know real room temperatures.
I took a while to decide which product to buy but I’m glad I chose this one. Great build quality and it works right out if the box. The accompanying App takes it to a whole different level and I love all the monitoring and summaries it provides . Helps you to control your home in a new way. Everything is so well thought out . This is a cosmetic point but I only wish this unit had a blue background display as well as the orange otherwise it’s a great choice.
Buy it!!!
The claim that the BlueTooth can communicate over 80 metres is questionable.
I have the TP358 in a small office at the back of my garage which is visible from my lounge around 12 metres away. There are three sets of double glazed windows between my Android phone and the TP358 and it is difficult to communicate with the device sometimes failing and other times very slow.
It is unfortunate that there is no monitoring software available for Windows 10 as this requires the user to have a smart phone or tablet.
Good product. The time-series graphs are pretty useful on the app. They clearly show a big difference after we bought a dehumidifier. My only complaint is that I’d like to be able to download the time-series data.
Unfortunately, the price seems to have gone up quite a bit. I wanted to buy a few more but that has put me off 🙂
This was easy to pair with my phone. Historical data is very interesting. I chose a bluetooth sensor over a wifi sensor for security reasons. I’m not a big fan of having wifi devices that could become unsupported and then potentially be hacked. Bluetooth devices are less susceptible to that given that they only connect with your host device.
Temperature readings correlate very well with two other thermometers that I have – one is my laser IR thermometer and the other was my central heating thermometer.
That said, the humidity measurements don’t correlate with my raspberry pi temperature/humidity sensor, or the humidity readings that I have on my dehumidifiers. For example if my other sources read 60% humidity, then this device is reading 66%. The reason I bought this was to measure humidity in my bedrooms and bathrooms, with a view to managing it better.
It would be nice if they could also show Dewpoint – this is an important figure to know about with respect to how likely condensation is to form if you have cold surfaces in your room. It would save me having to make an extra mental step.
For me, this device is what I wanted – it logs historical data about my house ambient conditions. For others – they wanted a push notification of alarms to their phone and they say it doesn’t work if the app isn’t open. That said, I’m unable to save a file and download it from my phone. I’m sure a file exists, but it’s not easy to retrieve.
Use this in a man shed and useful to keep track of max/min temperature however Bluetooth range is about 20ft at best. That aside, it is accurate and useful.
So impressed by this machine, I now have 3, 2 for bedrooms and 1 for the sitting room. I have been running them for about 6 months now, over the winter period. They have allowed me to tune the central heating well.
Using the app, I can see all three current readings on my phone on one screen. The Bluetooth link is easy to activate, and you can name each one by their location. The readings take a while to settle down when first set up or moved, but when placed together they will after an hour or so give virtually the same reading. Hence I believe they are well calibrated. Current data is downloaded by the app in real time. Historical data for the 24 hour, weekly and yearly graphs for each device is downloaded in batch mode when you open its graph page. This takes a few seconds. You cannot graph previous data in day mode, or week mode, only in year mode. The fine detail data is not saved after 24 hours, only the readings each hour. You can set an alarm for when the temperature of humidity level exceeds the maximum or minimum you select, but this only seems to activate when the app is open, not in background, and hence is not really much help.
Unfortunately, you can’t yet get an outside sensor that integrates with the app, which would have been my next purchase. The app only displays on my iPad in phone sized, portrait mode, which is a shame. But overall, a great system for monitoring your home.
After 6 months the battery indicator is down to half on the original 2 AAAs – how long they will last, I shall await, and if they will work properly on rechargeable batteries, as I hope.
The product box says it is a “Indoor Temperature and Humidity Monitor” so why is the humidity reading at the top of the screen?
In the app Temperature comes first as does just about every digital thermometer I have in the house.
Other than that complaint they work well (I have three now, living room, bedroom and conservatory).
One tip, before putting in the batteries allow an hour for the sensor to adjust to the conditions you are going to use it. Thus no spikes in the data stored in the device.
If the room temperature had come first on the display it would have got five stars.
