What to say? A very reasonably priced watch with a backlight dial. It’s well designed but not designer…which I see as a positive. Not paying extra for the name. Timex may be a put off for some but I see as a positive and wear this regularly. Recommended.
I like this watch. It looks good and it is quite sturdy. I have worn it quite a lot and in hot conditions with no problems. For the price I think this is a great watch. Some of the other colour schemes look nice, too. Highly recommended.
Bought one of these as I like a watch with numbers, and the Timex Indiglo system is a nice bonus.
I’m not a fan of the fabric strap, so switched it for a plain brown leather strap.
After a few months of use (and a bit of abuse) and it’s doing pretty well. No issues with getting wet, muddy or oily!
A very nice watch comfy to wear, the only thing is the hour hand doesn’t illuminate in the dark the minute hand does, maybe just this one I have but like the watch anyway..
There’s not a lot to dislike about this watch, it’s super comfortable and looks great with any outfit, the gunmetal grey looks fantastic as well.
I love the indigo backlight, the hands also glow in the dark so you can see the time whenever you need to.
Only minor downside is the ticking can be loud at night time so you have to put it in a draw or leave it in another room to sleep, during the day time you don’t hear anything
The only watch I own, I may buy more Timex watches but this is great for anyone
I’ve now had two of these watches in three years and both times, the pin dial has snapped off, rendering it useless. Such a shame as I love the watch. Amazon replaced the first one free of charge as it was within the two year guarantee, but couldn’t replace the replacement due to the guarantee only being applicable to the first purchase. I contact Timex direct but they have failed to reply with any solutions.
So if you’re happy to run the risk of the watch not lasting too long, go for it.
The Indigo light is perfect when needed, the dial is clear and easy to read and it’s a lovely watch to wear.
Just wish it was a bit more durable.
Good daily beater for not a lot of money, keeps decent time, seconds hand doesnt hit all the marks but I wasnt expecting a great movement at this price. Indiglo is great feature of Timex.
Overall a good budget field watch for not alot of money.
Perfect field watch. Just tells the time and looks great! Not too big, suits someone with slimmer wrists like myself. Love the understated vintage looks. It’s really tough too. I’ve worn all day everyday for months, through manual work and sports, and there isn’t a mark on the bezel or glass. The ticking is audible in an empty room, so I do keep it in a locker at night.
I think this is a good looking watch, very easy to read at a glance, as accuracy (in the past couple of months since purchase) as any other quartz watch and the indiglo feature makes it very easy to read in darkness.
Overall a nice watch and quite understated but still classy looking for the price.
Excellent value for money, especially as I got mine half price at 37.50 on promo. I use mine for work as an everyday watch. Analogue field watch with 12 & 24 hour markers. 40mm case – titanium too! Decent quality fabric strap with branded buckle. Advantage of Timex proprietary Indiglo display so extremely legible in low light or at night. Also water resistant to 50m so ok for limited exposure to water.
Definitely worth considering if you’re in the market for a cheap field type watch with plenty of features for the price
Bought one of these approx. 5 months ago, good watch keeps good time, unfortunately the Indiglow function has died, apart from a tiny section at the 6 o’clock position.
Checked online and found this is a common fault and that the easiest option was to change the battery.
Did that but the Indiglow still doesn’t function.
It is good watch, if you like pastel colors or wearing pastel color style always this is good watch, design and look wise amazing. I have only one problem with it, the tick tock sound is too loud, you cannot have it on your bed side, you leave it at least 3-4 meters away from you when you are sleeping or leave in another room. Other than that everything is good.
Very nice looking watch however it is quite loud. I could hear it ticking at night so I had to put it in my cupboard. Also the colours on the watch face are dark so it’s not the easiest to read but it does look great though
Another Timex to my collection, expedition scout. It fits perfectly & the strap must be 4mm thick,& makes
it feel like it’s correctly on your wrist & not coming off at anytime soon. Easy to read dial as usual, perfect size at 40mm. Great idea is the coloured 2nd hand. Not
100% sure indiglo is bright enough for this watch. My
only beef is why can’t us responsible Timex nuts have our new Timex’s in a nice box or sturdy pouch, instead of these black boxes that really are poor quality!
My last moan today is, why do Timex keep making so many Great looking watches,
It really is hard work when I had to choose a new one. PS
Why can’t I ever contact someone at Timex about a few repairs to my older Timex watches?
I’ve long been a fan of field watches and just collecting watches in general.
What i like is their simple, clear and functional face that’s easy to get the time in a quick glance.
Generally speaking a field watch should be accurate, robust and water resistant enough that in can take whatever is thrown at it in the great outdoors
This little gem from Timex is ‘almost’ perfect, just upping the 50 metres water resistant to 100 metres would have been very welcome, though not absolutely essential, just a shame.
Although its quite light at 63 grams, it still feels fairly robust and the finish looks like it’ll take a fair bit of abuse.
Size is very small, up to most of my watches, though it has to be said that i think that 40mm sized watches seem to be that ‘perfect’ size, regardless of wrist size. I can’t really describe why, but it just feels ‘right’, so comfortable and unobtrusive.
The strap feels surprisingly good quality, which was definitely more than i expected at this price, the leather feels thick and durable.
There are better spec’d options for less, I bought a similar lorus that has a stainless steel case (as opposed to this one being brass) and with 100 metres water resistance, yet somehow this Timex just feels so ‘RIGHT’ on the wrist and it looks more suited to the outdoors.
I’ve had many Timex watches over the years and NONE have disappointed, this is without doubt one of my favourites from them.
Accuracy is excellent (as expected), as it’s a quartz movement, it’ll ALWAYS be accurate and reliable, unlike an automatic watch, which aren’t much use for everyday wear, why pay more for less functionalty, durability and accuracy?
This is undoubtedly one of Timex best watches in its price range, the backlight is excellent and this is a truly fantastic ‘taster’ of a field watch in design and functionality.
First one came and was 1m42 slow after 2 days
kept a note of this – looked at it a few days later and it was still 1m42s slow – looked again about 20 minutes later and it was 2m30s slow – this was in 5 days
Sent back – replacement seems better – has lost 10s in 16 days – that’s more acceptable
Was looking for a cheap everyday watch and it’s really hard to find anything that comes close to an expedition watch.
At this price point, most other watches look much cheaper and equally, most watches looking this elegant are typically 3 times the price.
Very easy to read and the indiglo backlight is a pleasant surprise for an analogue face.
Not a huge fan of the black leather strap. Looks and feels more like a rubber strap without the durability benefits of rubber. There’s plenty of strap choices when ordering. I think the black face and tan leather strap is probably the best combination available.
For the price and style, it’s really hard to beat this watch.
2 months in after wearing the watch 3 days a week and the strap is falling apart. Would still recommend the watch but the strap itself certainly isn’t fit for purpose.
I’m more of a Seiko fan and usually shun anything with a quartz movement. But the field watch styling, indiglo feature and price made this hard to resist. And I’m glad I finally succumbed – this watch is fantastic for the money. Yes, it’s noticeably loud, and yes, the second hand is a little bouncy and doesn’t always hit the markers, and yes, it’s a…Timex. But somehow I still love it. No regrets.
It’s something I can comfortably wear on my wrist without constantly worrying about getting damaged, given the price. And it simply looks great. I’ll still throw on my flashier Seiko’s for dress functions, but for everyday wear, this is what’s going on my wrist.
I bought this watch with the intention of it being my main “beater” watch and TBH, its better than that. I have a small, modest collection and it sits in it proudly.
The indiglow light is amazing, I’ve had no problems with the crown at all and the strap is one of the most comfortable I’ve worn, seriously. I have the black dial with the orange accented second hand and it really looks spot on. The second hand does miss the marker as it traverses around the dial which is a minor niggle, but, as other reviews have said this watch ticks loudly. Very loudly. I have 10 analogue watches both quartz and mechanical and the explorer wins hands down for the loudest watch i have. One point to note though, I don’t hear it on the wrist unless I put it to my ear but once I’ve taken it off it’s auidable.
Overall its a fantastic watch and I love the indiglow, styling, strap and price but the volume of the second hand is definitely a consideration. Would l part with it now……no, I love it.
This watch has some weight, when you wear it you will feel it, though obviously you get used to it, if you go running it will feel like something with momentum on your arm. The adjustment dial is a little too large for my liking, and i worry it will snap off when i put a backpack on so im extra careful with that.
The colour scheme including the strap is very nice, it really matches well with any Jeans outfit, blue jeans and a brown belt match it perfectly. The light is strong, the time is easy to read, but i wish the handles were glow in the dark too.
The quality feels good and solid, despite looking smart it looks and feels casual enough to be used daily and take a bit of wear and tear.
This is my second timex watch. The first was a weekender that lasted about 2 years. These holidays i was in the mood for something slightly bigger, that wasn’t gonna break the bank, so i ordered the expedition scout 40mm.
Pros
-looks awesome, way more than its pricetag
-indiglo is a feature that all watches must have in my opinion
-Super affordable. Around 45 USD, almost everyone can afford it
Cons
-Loses track of time. In the 2 weeks that i had it it happened only twice, and no, the knob on the side was pressed in normally. I had to press it out then press it in again to start moving
-Comes with an almost depleted battery, don’t know if it was the guy at the watch shop trying to scam me, but he told me it was almost dead and not a great quality
-Last but not least, the knob on the side presses on my hand a lot. I have big hands, but a guard around it wouldn’t hu
I have used this watch now for a few months and purchased as I needed a ‘daily’ that was robust. I work as a firefighter so the watch can find itself subject to wet, dry, cold, hot, day, and night.
I had just broken two other watches so didn’t hold much hope for toughness. But on that front, this watch has not let me down. It has been very robust and clearly the Timex quality shows through.
In terms of features, this watch also surprises. Yes, I knew the face would illuminate but I was surprised by just how much it did and with such a light pressure on the crown. This came in handy on a number of jobs where it was pitch black but I needed to note time. The dials also have luminescence so even without the backlight it was easy to see in bed.
The accuracy and motion are the only two very minor criticisms. The accuracy seems to have dropped a second or two Vs my trusty but old automatic motion watches, off considering it is a Quartz. The motion used is also very loud. I could hear the ticking from my wrist in a waiting room, and if wearing to bed I can hear it through the pillow. Versus a Fossil Quartz I had, this motion is notably louder by at least double. Very liveable but as a result I prefer to wear my Vostok or Seiko 5 automatics despite their greater fragility.
Overall, highly recommend as this is very durable, used by me very frequently, and has survived fire related work abuse very well versus other brands double the money inc a Seiko 5 Sport (lost a crystal), Fossil Quartz (chipped crystal and stopped ticking, presumed flat), and a Rotary automatic (seized the balance spring). But if you get irritated by sounds, you may be best to avoid.
Lets not beat around the bush this is a cheap watch and my expectations were fairly low. I bought as I went on holiday without a watch and got it delivered to our hotel. I had to correct the time more often than I probably expected at first, but that does seem to have settled down a bit. Crystal and case have stood up to fairly careless wear pretty well. Strap is not going to last for years however. The indiglo feature works well (unless you’re a sniper target I guess). In summary I think it looks pretty good, tells the time and from a distance could be mistaken for a 2K Tudor watch I saw in a jewelers window the other day. For the money I would recommend it.
Update after 18 months. Strap gave up the ghost after 15 months, but otherwise still going strong. Timekeeping is not great, seems to need resetting from a couple of minutes slow every month. To be honest if it kept time better I’d give it 5 stars (at the price).
This watch is really good , it ticks nicely , keeps time well , and has a really solid casing. It feels like it’s been put together well and doesn’t rattle at all. Even the mineral glass on it is alot more scratch resistant than my Swatch irony and my vostok komanderskie ( given that one uses acrylic ). The straps that come with it are comfy , but i prefer to use leather straps on it as it’s a classy looking watch and I already own a diver for a sporty look.
All this is good ;however, this watch has one thing that maybe a no no to some people . It basically ticks really loud and it can be audible in a quiet room . I live in a dorm and if the watch isn’t in a box I can hear it tick , which can get annoying if you’re trying to sleep .
If you really want the watch for the time keeping and durability , then get it and get yourself a watch box or something that can dampen it’s noise at night so you can sleep in peace.
For its price , few watches compete with such quality or have a long heritage like Timex does. As a result , if you appreciate watches and want it for yourself or a gift , this is the perfect watch as a daily beater or a friendly gift gesture.
UPDATE :
I recently bought it NATO straps , and the ticking sound somehow dissapered . It might be the fsbric padding stopping the watch from making loud ticks. So , it’s an easy fix it seems.
I have been looking for a watch like this one for a while now. One of the things that occurred to me when looking at the watches I have bought in the past is that they are looking less and less like a watch and more and more like a supercomputer that can track pressure (not very well), temperature (not very well), where north is (not very well) but actually have no numbers on them and tell the time (not very well). Indeed most watches don’t have 1-12 on them. So when you are being active (rowing, sailing, running etc.) or even just driving and want a quick look at the time, this watch is superb in having 1-12 (and 13-24 for those that can’t add up) in nice big numbers. The face is exceptionally easy to read, the hands easy to see, the second hand picked out nicely in orange. The bonus of showing the date helps. What I wasn’t expecting however, because I didn’t read the description carefully enough, was the indiglo night-light which is activated with a simple touch of the crown. This is such a blindingly obviously sensible way of adding a light without having to have another button, I am amazed that I haven’t seen it on watches before. However all of the above would make for a 5 star rating, but the piece de resistance is the comfort. I put this watch on and actually went to bed and forgot I had it on, and woke up and forgot I had it on. The strap is very comfortable and the watch weighs next to nothing so it truly doesn’t impact on your comfort. I think Timex have got this 100% perfect.
