I love these plugs. In the winter they control my bed heater. In the summer they are controlling lights. They are incredibly responsive. Haven’t had any problems with them. Would buy again.
Very good. Great idea, perfect for Christmas decorations and with the App easy to use.
If you find Alexa has issues finding these then you may need to move your Wi-Fi router or get a more powerful one.
Since moving our router it works very well.
Bought these for my elderly Mum, to work alongside a cheap (20) Google Nest Mini so that she can turn her lamps on and off with her voice. She absolutely loves it, and I found them a doddle to install.
I had some problems setting it up but these problems turned out to be a fault with my WiFi router so I have revised my original review to a positive one – the Kasas are working fine now that my router issue has been resolved.
It takes a few minutes to set up and then you can either know that it will switch on and off with the timer function or turn on and off as you need. Great for switching on the electric blanket on your way home on a cold nigh
The plugs are very easy to install and link up with the wi-fi. I have been using the app for a few months and it works very well and the reliability is excellent.
Love these plugs. Got 5 now which control inside & outside lights. Easy to set up and great option controlling from my phone when I’m not at home. Would recommend these plugs and will be buying more.
These are great, easy and very quick to set up, not as bulky as the older version links i have, altho they still work well just bit
big.
Thank you
Work with or without the Alexa, but I tend to use with it. I sometimes feel it makes me lazy but great for hard to reach plugs. Can be switched on remotely which is great if away from home. I worked out how to integrate it with the Alexa so it can’t be that hard. Great plugs
Great kit but if app if disconnects due to losing or weak Wi-Fi needs you to keep logging in again. Frustrating and shouldn’t happen.
I have a few hive plugs but prefer Home Assistant for my home automation and there is often quite some lag while using the hive ones. These connected to my Home Assistant (using a conbee 2 zigbee USB and Raspberry Pi) quickly and easily and are all but instant to use.
Great price for them too!
Works well with Google, Alexa and Kasa app too.
Simple to set up
Schedule function and theme/scenes on the Kasa app are v good.
Away from home – works well from mobile phone
Bought in place of returned & refunded, non-functional, TP Link variety.
Bought six of these and took me hours to install 3 of them. on the Kasa app and difficulty getting Alexa to integrate with them on my Echo.. The other 3 I still can’t install.
Update: Installed successfully at last, my fault, I was using the wrong plug reference in the Kasa app set-up.
I can ask Alexa to turn on my shed and garden lights and my living room lamps can use the Kasa app to turn them of and on to easy to set up saves getting into awkward places to turn on and of equipment definitely would recommend price also was cheap for the two plugs
Rapid setup, lightning fast reaction to control from the mobile app, and were easy to add to Alexa for voice control and timed routines. By having them set to turn my lamps on and off according to an offset from current local sunrise/sunset time, I no longer have to fiddle with timers when the clocks change or the nights draw in.
I was looking to get more smart plugs to go with my existing Kasa smart plugs HS100 that I got several years ago. Reading some of the reviews from 2019 it says that these slim plugs aren’t compatible with the existing app and you have to download another one.
However the app version must have been upgraded since 2019 as the slim plugs are fully integrated in my Kasa app on my iPhone. Glad they do as I was looking at having to purchase the old HS100 plugs if they weren’t compatible, which are more expensive now.
The app itself shows the list of products that will work through the app.
These slim plugs are easy to install and work perfectly. Great value for money.
Ease of installation, size of plug and the Kasa app make Kasa the best option for Smart plugs.
Having struggled to get plugs that actually work with Apple Home I switched to Amazon and Alexa. The Alexa app has its faults and also difficulties in setting up Alexa devices but Kasa was no problem at all and links easily to Alexa.
Amazon should use Kasa to sort out the connectivity problems Alexa has when adding Echo Flex etc.
Looks and feels a quality product. Very easy to connect.
Timer function lacking. Seems you have to turn it off via the apk and the timer offered to turn it off only goes to 180 minutes.
Instructions not existent, one has to explore its functions through the apk
Setting it up in the Tapo app was fairly easy. However the account linking to Alexa went a bit screwy. It said it was linked, but it wasn’t. Alexa would detect it but not control it saying something about the server being offline. I went through the account pairing a few times and eventually they played nicely together. Otherwise it works well now. I was pleased that I could set up routines for it in the Alexa app just like the Amazon brand smart plug that I have. And a group of one Kasa smart plug and one Amazon smart plug (two lamps in one room) still works when I say “Turn the lamps on”. I was glad not to have to set up some devices’ routines in one app and others in another app.
Fantastic product easy to use and install. Price was really good but do check against price hikes. Paid 15.99 for these which i ma very happy about. This was my second purchase of these which work really well. Very impressed with the devices and the Kasa App.
Very handy, especially for turning on/off appliances that waste electricity when they are kept in standby, such as the TV. As a disabled person, these plugs have been immensley helpful, because I don’t have to struggle getting up from my chair to turn on my appliances, I am very forgetful and it was frustrating to have just sat down and then realise I didn’t switch on the TV on the wall socket and then have to get up again. Now I can just ask Alexa to do it and it saves me the physical pain of getting up again. Would highly recommend to all, but especially those who are disabled and are looking for accessibility aids.
Super easy for anybody to use , I have a few of the Kasa based products now and found them incredibly easy to install and reliable. Has a timer and facility to monitor energy used, both work well.
Very happy customer.
I don’t use voice activated cloud based recognition other than natively (Siri) so cannot comment on that.
I have old wiring in my home, so it’s not too easy to set up a smart switch.
Instead, I bought these for my slow cooker and other non-smart appliances.
I have pre-sets on their, to turn on my devices when I need them and I can even access them remotely, meaning I can turn a device on/off if I forgot about it when I left the house
These are much better than the older Kasa plugs, due to their much smaller size. However they still do sometimes randomly disconnect for no apparent reason. I’m happy overall with their function, it’s just a bit frustrating when they stop working on their own, then start working again an hour later!
I now have 3 of these smart plugs, they are much more compact than some others so look alot tidier. Easy to setup following the instructions and once done, never had any issues at all connecting with them through the app. I have also been able to set timers on them too. Can also turn them on or off on the Google home app.
I have my sky box plugged into one, so that it’s easy to reboot it without having to get behind the TV to pull the plug.
Only thing to note is that if you have a plug socket with built in USB power, it will cover the port on the side it’s plugged in so will make the USB port unusable. However, I think you will get this with all smart plugs. Just something to be aware of.
Very useful and easy to use piece of technology..
Installation is very simple if you just follow it step by step. But you have to remember to let it run on its own Wi-Fi network first, You log onto its network and then you can change it over to your own network.
This is the second lot of these plugs we bought, we were so impressed that it got us through an emergency where we all needed to be able to turn the water pump on and off from different parts of the house.. it’s more used for heaters and putting on electric blankets at the moment.
An absolute bonus for anybody who is either bedbound or has mobility issues too. Turning things off and on without getting up is has been a real help when I’ll.
The regular timers are good but best is the auto off timer which means if I forget to turn the attic heater off it goes off after set time.
Good when the plug is in an awkward place too. No reaching behind tables etc to turn switches off.
I like that it’s not buying new smart things but can convert old electrical plug in items into smart tech.
After reading reviews I got these to replace some other units that kept dropping off the network plus they were a nightmare to reconfigure. So I was really impressed with these as they are dead simple to install and so far after a month they work perfectly with no dropouts. They work with Alexa no problem
Used several of these for automating the control of festive lighting. Outside lights set to come on automatically at sunset and off at a set time. Indoor lights in multiple rooms all turned on and off at the same time by activating a ‘scene’. Works perfectly.
I have another of these controlling an electric heater in a conservatory where we sometimes need a heating boost. Switch is set to turn the heater off 15 minutes after it is switched on, so it’s not left running a long time wasting energy.
All in all, a simple but effective way of managing certain equipme
Downloaded the App to my phone, plugged the units in and in the app selected ‘add device’. Twenty minutes later, both units registered, connected to Wi-Fi and on/off sequences scheduled. Couldn’t have been easier.
Moving one smart plug to a different location, and changing the Wi-Fi it was connected to, was also straight forward. Excellent product.
This works with Google Nest WiFi, many other makes don’t. This is because Google Nest is dual band 2.4gHz and 5gHz. My Samsung phone is the same. You can’t disable the 5gHz band on either. This is no problem with this Tp-link socket but other makes you can’t set them up. After setup using the Kasa app, it is easy to link it to Google Home app and its smart speakers. Make sure that the socket, Google Nest Wifi (router or point), and phone are very close together for the setup and the phone is fully charged otherwise it goes into power save mode. Once it’s set up, the range is as far as the 2.4 gHz range goes, which is tens of meters.
These new slim versions of the Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug are really neat. They work just as well as their older (bigger) brother. I use both the old version and the newer slim versions throughout the house and really love them. So they almost score top marks.
There’s just one little design flaw that has always bugged me. In most of the rooms in my house I have double sockets with USB ports. They’re great, and very common these days. They allow you to charge your devices (such as mobile phones etc.) without taking up a socket for the USB to mains adapter.
The problem is that these Kasa smart plugs obscure the USB ports and make them completely unusable. I’d love for TP-Link to redesign them so that they plugged into the wall socket upside-down to how they do now, meaning they protrude downwards, not upwards. This would allow me to be able to use the USB ports when the Kasa Smart Wi-Fi plugs were in the wall sockets.
So, for that reason they drop to 4 stars.
