Great bulbs, love the fact you can go from 1% to 100%. Have put one on landing and leave on at 1% all night and it gives enough light without being too bright. Only thing I had a bit of confusion with was connecting them to my Internet but once my daughter talked me through it with first bulb then knowing what to do it was easy for a non tech person. Alexa connected them to her immediately which was great. Have ordered more Tapo bulbs both white and coloured and have all been great.
These are great. WAY better than Philips Hue and more sensibly priced than the outrageous Hue prices. The app is very good. The only downside is they don’t offer a huge choice of bulb sizes outside the standard sizes. I wish they would add a golfball style bulb which is smaller.
Excellent product so far. Set-up via the app (on Android via Google Store) was fine, and integration with Alexa worked quickly and easily. On highest setting the bulb seems very bright, feels brighter than a 60w old-skool lightbulb (although I use it in a relatively small room). Very pleased so far.
Cracking price, easy to set up, integrates with Alexa, and now my porch light now comes on just before sunset and turns off at dawn witout me having to worry about it. Terrific.
I got this for my father in law as he already had an Amazon echo so he could voice control it. Setup was easy. I downloaded the tapo app on my phone and had it up and running. I installed the bulb and switched it on and it blinked 3 times to say it’s in pairing mode. The app found it straight away and linked it to the WiFi where it then did a firmware update. After that I logged in to the Amazon account and linked the bulb via the tapo app and then it was ready for use. This was a bayonet fitting and is just white bulb but you can tell it how bright to be which is great.
Very reasonable price, really quick delivery. Switch them off and on through the app , or Alexa . I’ve got two lights on one switch so if I leave a light on , when I go out it used to have to be two lights, now they work independently, and I can either switch it on just before I come home or it can be programed to go on and off at a certain time, through the app. Because they work through the internet not a hub you can do it all through my phone. It even shows you how much energy you’ve used and saved, which is quite a bit. Good light and it can be as bright or as dim as you like . Easy to set up ,but recommend watching a tutorial on uTube first . There’s quite a few . My whole flat has now got these .
Smart bulbs and buttons are great but having used them for 10 years now, they come with a lot of issues.
Firstly they lose connection all the time. The reason things like your Ring cameras and Lifx bulbs lose connection is that they’re cheap and the WiFi bands that they support are limited. When your router or Mesh Wifi rotates it’s bands/frequencies in order to ensure your Wifi is not colliding with nextdoors, if it moves to a band that is unsupported then everything goes offline!!!
Secondly the backends of these system just go down or are unreliable. I have found especially with Lifx they just randomly go down, usually when you need them most!
Thirdly the reality of smart kit is that you need some way for everyone to be able to use them. For example, are you going to ask your parents in law to download the app, give them admin permissions and to use the app to switch the bathroom light on? No!!!
Now I have persevered for years with Lifx and Flic buttons and, the flic buttons run out of power all the time, disconnect and also they’re not very robust. Add the crappy Lifx bulbs into the equation and you have a system thats just unreliable.
So I recently took advantage of the black frinday deal and replaced everything with Tapo. So far it has been night and day better.
Tapo kit is way cheaper than anything else on the market. It has an ever evolving app thats easy to use and intuitive to me and the smart buttons work brilliantly.
I have not had 1 outage or issue in 2 months now, where I used to get at least 1 bulb go funky per month for no reason at all!!!!
So the bulbs are basic, however they have a very nice temperature to them. The Lifx ones were better in that respect but I almost got all of my bulbs replaced for the price of just 1 Lifx one, so I don’t miss the price!!!
I have even got a camera hooked up to the little smart hub and I have had literally no hiccups at all.
Compared to anything else I have used these are so much better. I am so impressed.
I leave the light switch on and use Alexa to control the bulb to turn it on and off and also to dim it if necessary as a disabled person it makes my life a lot easie
It took me a couple of minutes to set up, I needed this so that I could set up a schedule for it to switch on while I’m not home and a previous brand I recently bought didn’t have that option and would connect to my phone so I was a little bit dubious about this one working but it does and it’s great! Nothing fancy about it does what it needs to do
Good bulb, easy to connect to, easy to use, nice brightness. What more can you speak about with a bulb? I choose this as it does not need a hub; I have already too many things attached to the router. It works great without the need for a hub and the app is quite simple and straightforward to use
Easy to set up and easy to control. Light is adjustable so you can have it as bright or dim as you like. I have 3 of these around the house now and they work well.

I have several of these bulbs. I wanted to modernise the house a bit, and they have worked very well for a while. One of them has stopped linking to the wifi. The company’s app is very useful for contacting them, however, when it comes to replacing the defective product they refer me to the shop where I bought it, in this case AMAZON, which is impossible because there is no way to contact them to explain the problem and there is no option anywhere to do so from the order. So I have ANOTHER product bought on Amazon which is impossible to enforce the warranty. And it is not the first time this has happened to me.
I bought this as a direct replacement for an existing LED bulb in an outside, non PIR carriage lamp. I can now turn it on and off with either the Tapo app or with Alexa when coming home in the dark. The brightness can also be adjusted with the app and Alexa.
Set up was very simple and it connected with Alexa quickly and has been perfectly reliable so far.
Although I haven’t yet set any routines up yet it is possible to have the bulb turn on and off automatically to schedules and potentially by Alexa routine connected to my video doorbell.
Does the job I wanted if for perfectly well.
This is nowy fifth Tapo device, and once you set up the first, all others take seconds to set up in the app.
Alexa set up is immediate and works well.
Google seems to be trickier and flakier, once set up with Google you need to go into Google home, select the d vice again, and then it is set up, not just when you add it to Google in the TAPO app.
I cannot speak to the usage time as yet as I have only had my Tapo devices for a couple of months for the old st, however if I find any issues I will update this review.
Tips if this is your first TAPO device:
1: download the app first, before turning anything on, plugging anything in.
2: Turn ” location” on your phone on, the app asks like it is an option but the software cannot “pair” the device without location, don’t ask me why, makes no sense to me either, I have already written to the developers to ask them to fix this but had no reply as yet.
3: if you are adding to Alexa, simply follow the in app instructions.
If you are adding to Google ( so you can say ok Google , Turn living room lights off) then follow the in app instructions, and then when set up is completed, go to the Google home app on your phone, and add the device there too, otherwise Google won’t find it/ them.
4: leave your wall switch on, because it’s only function now is to power the device, the wall switch will not turn the lights on any more, use Alexa/ Google commands or the app on your phone. If you switch the wall switch off, Google/ Alexa and the app will not be able to turn the lights on.
I have been reassured by the manufacturer that when Google/ Alexa or the app turn the lights off, they are no longer drawing power, so leaving the wall switch on will not cost you money if you told the light to be off.

o recognise the device (bulb). It took 15 mins and there are a couple of confusing instructions e.g. it isn’t made clear that your bulb will be listed as a wifi network option but, after clicking on it this will disappear and you will be asked which network option (your own) you want to select. Now it’s working, it’s really handy especially if you’re ill and getting up to turn the light off and on isn’t manageable.
This smart bulb came packaged very nicely and gave clear instructions on how to start to set up by getting the app. Once I’d downloaded the app it was a bit of a hassle to get it to connect with my phone. But after a few attempts I was successful and from there it was very easy to use it with the SmartThings and Amazon Alexa app.
I think this is an amazing product that has a solid brightness, easy to use (once connected) and seems to work in almost every smart home ecosystem.
I’ve had a few of these Tapo bulbs since around November 2021, so this review is written 9 months or so in.
Overall I’d say it’s a pretty decent product, the dimmability is neat, I have one fitted into a low hanging light fitting that sits above the dining table, so dimming to a softer brightness is good for mood setting.
I’ve also made extensive use of the “away” feature which randomly turns on the lights at different times in the night so it looks like someone is in.
My only criticism is the bulbs are only operatable through the Tapo app and require internet connectivity, this means you’re wholly dependent on TP-link keeping the servers up. Additionally you cannot really integrate them with Home Assistant without jumping through hoops. The bulbs cannot be flashed with tasmota either, so if you’re planning on getting deeply involved in smart home/home assistant tech you’re probably going to end up replacing these bulbs for more flexible options anyway….
These are enthusiast/home automation concerns though I think for most people they’re fine.
