It works out of the box paired already, and was installed remotely by grandson whose 10 to fix his xbox signal problems. No parents were harassed in this process! (Eyebrow may have been raised, as ever with child unplugging stuff) The ‘thru’ socket design doesnt reduce the number of sockets available.
Great idea for a point to point connection.
You just need to plug each unit into a mains socket. Connect one unit to your modem using an ethernet cable. The other unit is then connected to the network without any need for passwords/apps etc. I’m very happy with this purchase.
I purchased the model TP-Link TL-PA7017P KIT and the results are better than expect!! I can play video games without connecting a very long Ethernet cable from first floor to second! The speed is around 30-35% the speed of the line, but still perfect without delays, or signal cuts.
Due to the location of my router I was getting a poor WiFi signal to my television and human box. Many channels I was unable to get and on occasions I had failed recordings due to a poor signal.
Since I installed this device I have managed to get over 30 channels which I could not get before. I still am unable to get some channels but these are not ones I do not use.
I had tried a WiFi booster prior to this device but it did not seem to improve matters.
This device is excellent and highly recommended if you have poor signaling.
I was changing from wireless connection to wired on my PC and was looking for decent Ethernet adaptors. A friend recommended these too me and they have been nothing less than brilliant.
I now have great fast speeds to my PC upstairs and a more stable, reliable connection. Connectivity from the box to plug downstairs and plug upstairs is good doesn’t drop out and doesn’t cause slow speeds. I am extremely happy with these and if you are looking to move to a wired connection, these are a great option to start off with.
Very happy
Just what we needed to connect our BT YouView box to our BT SmartHub.
The 2 devices were originally next to each other and connected together with a short LAN cable. We decided to move the YouView box to another room. As it doesn’t support WiFi, we opted for these PowerLine adapters rather than running a new physical LAN cable through the house.
I am impressed, installation and set up took all of 2 minutes and everything works a treat. The connection appears to be reliable and quick.
Time will tell but so far, we are rather chuffed
I looked at Extenders / boosters but wasn’t confident about their reliability, this is a direct pass-through which provides an ethernet point in a location the router cannot reach, using the mains ring. I was fed up with my son moaning about slow wifi on his gaming PC so the PA7017 looked the best solution. This model does not provide or receive a wifi signal, you need a spare mains socket and ethernet so it wont help with an unwired phone / device.
But for the PC it was a transformation. I haven’t had a single complaint in 3 months, in fact I have had nothing but praise for it so its done the job perfectly. Meanwhile however my son is turning into a lazy slob who won’t leave his room so please take this as a warning.
The TP-Link TL-PA7017P is a game-changer for home networking. With its easy setup and reliable performance, it’s perfect for extending your network to areas with weak Wi-Fi signals or limited Ethernet ports. This really helped with my gaming and increased the wifi speed to my PlayStation 5
I was fed up with wi-fi boosters that kept needing to be reset and providing unreliable speeds. I bought this with some scepticism and was surprised at the easy set up, speed and reliability. Fortunately, the router and my device are on the same circuit so this has worked perfectly.
I purchased the 2-Port 600mbps Passthrough Powerline kit and it has greatly enhanced my home network connectivity range.
The powerline adaptors give me a reliable and convenient solution for extending the network connection throughout my house.
Pros:
Easy Setup: The powerline kit is wonderfully easy to set up.
You simply plug one adapter into a power outlet close to your router and connect the adaptor via an Ethernet cable.
The second adaptor goes into a power socket in the desired room and again using an ethernet cable connect to your device.
There is no complicated setting up or wiring, you simply plug and go.
I’ve had mine running for a while now and the connection is fast and Stable.
The powerline adaptors cleverly utilise the electric circuits in your home to extend the internet network.
This creates a strong and steady connection, ideal for my internet needs such as online gaming and streaming TV.
Socket outlets are a premium in my house so it was important not to lose the only one close to the TV and Xbox, so I opted for the pass through adaptors, this allows you to use the power outlet for other devices without sacrificing an available socket.
The adaptors are both the same so it doesn’t matter which one goes where, they both have the same pass through so you don’t lose the use of a socket and each have a single Ethernet port, this allows you to connect a single device or you can add a multi port ethernet box which are inexpensive and work well, this will provide extra flexibility for connecting multiple devices, such as gaming consoles, smart TVs, and computers.
The adaptors have green led lights showing that power is on and network is ok which is handy, plus they aren’t too bright in the bedroom.
Cons:
Need to be on the same circuit to work.
So if you want to use it in the shed or your upstairs sockets are on a different one to downstairs then it won’t work.
The longer the circuit then the effectiveness of the adaptor may diminish but in a standard house is not an issue.
Overall, the 600mbps Passthrough Powerline Adaptors are a solid reliable solution for extending network connectivity throughout your home.
With its easy plug and go setup, solid connection, passthrough outlet, and god Ethernet speed it’s an easy option for improving network reach.
I would recommend these as a great addition to any home network.
These plugged in and Synced automatically within seconds.
Network speed is the full 1000/1000 and it’s been faultless all day.
Running 4K media across the network it’s been perfect.
Highly recommended.
Needed to replace old wired ethernet connections. These power adapters were easy to set up and have pass-through mains sockets so no impact on ability to utilise a mains socket.
As with most TP-Link gear I’ve bought, these provide good functionality at a reasonable price. So far they’ve performed well providing close to gigabit performance. The Windows-only configuration utility is useful as it shows the connectivity details between each adapter including third-party ones and allows all to be named and TP-Link ones to be configured to prioritize certain classes of traffic at the MAC (layer 2) level. After installing the application, I’d recommend uninstalling the obsolete and no longer supported WinPcap it also installs and replacing it with the latest version of Npcap which is backward compatible and more secure.
On the down side, they are rather bulky so if installing on a wall behind, say, a TV cabinet there will have to be a gap, especially if you use the pass-through power socket.
It would be nice if they were addressable at the TCP/IP level using, say, a web interface or SNMP so that they could be configured and monitored from other subnets in a routed environment but that’s a minor niggle.
Had some problems with replacement BT extenders .
These TP link ones worked straight out the box , much simpler to ‘pair’ give them a minute or two to sync. Seem more stable on the data link. They support a ‘ bt you view box ‘ downstairs and the hub is opposite end of the house. Got the plug addition pair which is useful so you don’t lose a plug.
Highly recommend over BT.
Bought these because I work from home & moved from sky dish internet to sky fibre & everything is so more tech than it used to be. Plug it in where the fibre came into the building & at my work station & hey presto it’s works. It does need to be running on the same electric circuit ( our bungalow is split into 2 Kitchen & garage is one circuit & front room, bathroom, bedrooms are on another. I didn’t know that when I bought it, it could have made a big difference
I have a 900mbps (90mbps upload) internet connection, very fast, but one room in the house is a wifi dead zone.
It’s a 3 storey house, wifi router ground floor at the front, room is 2nd floor at the back.
Very poor wifi performance from both a streaming Sony TV set and MacBook Pro. Lots of buffering or no connection at all. I tried a wifi booster, but too flaky to be useful.
These powerline adapters work great for me. 150mbps download and 90mbps upload.
Ok, nowhere near the stated 1000mbps, but these are respectable speeds, and most importantly, they are stable and consistent.
It means I can now happily stream 4k video content and have video meetings without annoying dropouts or that stupid buffering icon.
Well worth the money.
These are brilliant. Should have got them sooner. My PC has never had a wireless card, plus it was in a dead zone anyway. I’ve messed about with WiFi extenders that also have ethernet ports but it always seemed like a temperamental setup. Straight out of the box, bam! 60mb/s download / 20 mb/2 upload, and that’s through a spurred socket off an ancient power circuit. My broadband is technically 200 mb/s at the hub but almost never gets near that. I’ll take 60 mb/s anyway. No convoluted setup or downloading apps or creating accounts with some company or other. Just plug and play.
I have a new Full Fibre 300 Mbps connection so purchased the TP-Link TL-PA7017P to replace my old powerline adapters that were only capable of 100Mbps. Initially got 202Mbps with these new powerline adapters and while that is great I wasn’t getting what I am paying for with regards to my fibre package..
The one tip I can give you is to use the passthrough sockets on these devices. When I unplugged my extension lead (that was helping power all the things for my desktop) from the socket to the left of the powerline adapter and replugged it into the powerline adapter I got pretty much the full speed my internet connection is capable of as you can see in the image (293 Mbps). Upload remained the same- pretty much maxed out as my package is 50Mbps upload.
Edit: now getting the full 300Mbps. My line may have needed a couple of days to settle/train or it is a less busy time of day. Nevertheless, try not to connect anything to the sockets next to the powerline adapters. Also, I changed to Google DNS.
Hope this helps.
I’ve been having problems with WiFI which is a nightmare as I work from home and I have to do constant Zoom calls. The router is downstairs from my study and I didn’t fancy trailing a cable downstairs. Hence I bought this pair of powerline adapters.
This is only day one but very impressed so far. Installation is a breeze – set them up, hit the pair buttons and you’re done. It also comes with two ethernet cables included so you’re good to go.
I can see from my router admin page that the bandwidth between the powerline adapters is about 450 Mbps (this is the speed of my local network, not the internet connection). I’m getting a 50 Mbps internet connection on my Mac, which is about the same as I get with it plugged directly into the LAN port on the router.
If you have an older Mac like me with a Thunderbolt 2 port, I’d recommend the Ethernet-Thunderbolt adapter, which I also got off Amazon for about twenty quid.
Can;t rerally run wires through the house, and living near an airport the wifi can be a bit flaky sometimes so i thought i’d try these.
Obviously as wtih any powerline system, the speeds you will get depend on the wiring in your house. If you have an old house with old wiring, or a weird layout to the circuits, you may come across issues.
That said, in the 50s/60s ex council house i am currently in, i am getting an average of 75mbps while the receiver is plugged into an extension cord on opposite corners of the house., so i’m pretty impressed.
connecting the two was very easy, plugged them both in in the same room, pressed the pari button on the bottom of them both and within seconds the two lights stopped flashing.
unplugged the receiver and took it upstars and plugged it in. again, within a coule of seconds, both lights lit up and when i connected the cable to the receiver, it connected right away.
time will tell if they last, and i have no idea if adding any more to the system will cause any issues or cause the speed to go down, but they are working for me!
Not sure when you’d ever get the ‘gigabit’ speed, but i suspect you;d need much more recent wiring than we have, abnd probably would need to be on the same ring circuit to minimise interference, but for most people it will be more than enough.
just need to reorganise the room or get a longer ethernet cable so i can plug the receiver directly int a socket.
They are a bit large, so if your socket has limited clearance below it, you may run into problems as i have due to furniture. i can plug it in, just, but no space to then connect the cable where the ethernet socket is underneath.
Plenty quick enough for my 50mbps connection.
Get full speed and only adds around 3ms ping to my normal wired connection.
Can’t complain at that!
I guess time will tell if they turn out to be reliable or not!
Great solution if you are looking to boost your network speed if you are struggling with the WiFi signal, as this clever device transmits over the power grid. Simplest of all to install, plug one in a socket (network cable from router plugged in device) and then plug the other one (network cable from this device to the PC/console/tv box or WiFi extender even) on a socket that is on the same wiring and just press a button to pair. Easy as that – no cables involved and amazing speeds.
This product is great. Set up was incredibly easy I just plugged one into my router and the other in my room where a gaming PC is being used and both adapters found each other in a couple minutes. Immediately doing a speed test I’m getting 70 down 18 up which is exactly the same as a direct Ethernet connection. My ping issues and packet loss drops are completely solved and my online games aren’t lagging anymore. I imagine this product wouldn’t be suitable if you a connection over 100mbps because the Ethernet port on the adapters is only 10/100 so if they ever install any faster internet to my road then I will upgrade the adapters but for now I’m extremely happy with them. I’d tried several wifi adapters and have come to the conclusion that using WiFi for gaming is just terrible and these adapters are the way to go if you cannot run a cable.
I recently purchased the 2-Port Gigabit Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit, and it has greatly improved my home network connectivity. This powerline kit offers a reliable and convenient solution for extending the network connection throughout my house.

I bought this kit to stop lag whilst gaming. It’s worked perfectly and I don’t think I can ever go back to using the WiFi for such a thing.
The installation was so fast and simple. Would highly recommend them.
I have a cable box incompatible with my Internet provider. Since a new router new settings the WiFi does not hold v long sometimes 1 hour. But more oelr less every day inhale to input my WiFi code. I was beyond fed up!
On speaking to the umpteenth agent at the Internet provider he suggested these fancy plugs!I have noticed an improvement so now 4 or 5 days it lasts and then I put WiFi code better than before.!
I think IF I could get the ethernet lead in it would be awesome but does not stretch so just the plug in the wall and hey presto better signal.
Does exactly what it says on the box. Very easy to add to existing products – great price point. This is the second set I have bought. Would buy again.
Very easy to use, just plug and use really.
No problem with the speed and connection neither. Bought them to work from home for months and had no issue at all so fa
Our Sky router wifi is hopeless i was getting between 1 and 25 mbs all over the house. With this i am now getting a constant 47mbs for my laptop. I plugged it into an extension too! No more lag for work zoom calls.
I bought these to replace some old Belkin ones after I upgraded my broadband to 500mbps. They are definitely a lot faster and have the added bonus of being able to plug in to so your not losing a space. Definitely recommend.
I moved into a new house where the master socket for the broadband connection is in a bedroom but all my devices are in the living room so as I have a PS5 and a Xbox I wanted to have these connected via Ethernet for online gaming.
I bought this as I had old BT power line adapters but it only had one Ethernet connection so I had to choose which device I had connected via Ethernet.
The set up was quick and easy, I connected the plug with the signal Ethernet port to the router in the bedroom and the second plug with the dual Ethernet ports on in the living room and connected the Ethernet cables to the PS5 and Xbox.
I didn’t even have to press the sync button to sync the two plugs within 5 seconds they were connected and ready to go.
I ran a Speedtest and get no drop in internet speed or performance from running it through these plugs. I also like the fact that you don’t lose plug sockets as these have built in sockets.
Used to get better mbps on my xbox, ive noticed a more secure connection since using it, the speed isn’t as high as i would like but it’s still up there with a better sturdier connection than wireless
I had a set of older TP-Link branded Powerline adaptors, (TL-PA7020P) that helped me transfer my outdoor camera stream to my switch indoors, however, one day they just stopped working. I tried a full reset and various other things including firmware updates but nothing worked. They would connect in the house when plugged into the same double socket, but as soon as they were apart, the signal would just drop and the LED would go red.
Why do I say this? Well, in case you have had the same issue as me frankly. These things seem to work for a finite time and then begin to break down with flaky connections.
Enter this set. I just needed a fairly basic set of powerline adapters and settled on these. They were, after all, just bought to see if a new set would work, or whether it was something to do with my electrics (unlikely as the house is less than 4 years old). I plugged the first adapter in the garage and plugged the ethernet cable in from my EAP-110 outdoor antenna, two LEDs came on. I went indoors and plugged in the second adapter to the socket near my switch, plugged the Ethernet cable in and two LEDs came on. I waited 60 seconds, nothing, no third LED to show they were linked.
All I can think of is these things take several minutes to find each other as, just as I was giving up, the third LED lit up!
I checked, and all the cameras worked fine, a lot faster than they were before as I was using a TP-Link Deco X55 in the garage to try to get the signal through, it was only reading one bar so not a great signal. So I’m very pleased as I don’t need to purchase the Outdoor X50 Deco now (an expensive test that might not have worked so well).
So it seems these things do have a finite life, but I would rather buy a set of these every two years than faff about with trying to get a wi-fi signal into what is effectively a Faraday cage (a house with foil lined insulation throughout). And if you had a set of these that suddenly packed up, buy a new set, you might just solve the problem.
This review is for the TP-Link TL-PA7027P AV1000 kit.
I bought this kit to test if I can improve the speed of local file transfer between my laptop and NAS. As you can see from the images, the tpPLC utility reports a 459 Mbps speed between the two powerline adapters. In reality, that was 92/128 Mbps (upload/download). The powerline adapters are plugged into the wall socket and this is a newly built house (2020), so the electrical wiring is up to current standards. One of the adapters is plugged in downstairs, and the other one is upstairs. The approximate distance between the two is 10-15 m.
In comparison, I get 150/317 Mbps (upload/download) transfer speed via wifi (Orbi RBR50 + satellite).
Conclusion:
This is a fairly cheap, easy-to-use product, however, a mesh wifi system would probably be a better choice for most people, provided that the router and the nodes can reach the area you want to cover. For hard-to-reach areas, this product could be the only viable option to extend the network and provide internet connectivity.
