Just returned from a motorcycle/camping trip where the gear ie: sleeping bags & sleeping mats have to be compact and lightweight, this mat is perfect for me, easy to inflate with the inflator bag, I also have the pillow which cleverly attaches to the mat and stays in position, I’m 6ft but the mat was easily long enough for me, no overhanging feet, it’s also shaped to keep you comfortably in the middle of the mattress without the fear of falling off (I’m in my 60s)
Very very good
I have had mine for 2 years now. Im a wild camper. This never lets me down. Once its up and firm it stays firm until morning. wait what? you know what I mean saucy! But seriously its the best on the market. Worth the extra spend because you can trust it! A big thanks from me to Trekology. Please know that your quality has been recognised. Long may it continue!!
As a seasoned traveler at 53 years old, I value a good night’s sleep more than ever. The Trekology UL80 Camping Mat has become my go-to companion for camping adventures, offering a level of comfort that’s simply unmatched. Let me share my experience with you.
Comfort First:
Gone are the days when I’d settle for anything less than a cozy bed. The Trekology UL80 Camping Mat has been a revelation. Its cushioned design cradles my body, alleviating those pesky pressure points that tend to keep me tossing and turning on lesser mats. I’m delighted to report that I now wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day, even after sleeping under the stars.
Easy Inflation:
At 53, I prefer convenience without compromising quality. Inflating the Trekology UL80 is an absolute breeze. No more huffing and puffing or wrestling with complicated valves. A few breaths and the mat is ready to provide a comfortable cushion between me and the ground. Deflating and packing it up is equally straightforward, making my camping routine much more enjoyable.
Support and Stability:
One of my concerns when camping was always the uneven ground. But with the Trekology UL80, that’s a thing of the past. The mat provides excellent support and stability, ensuring I don’t wake up with a stiff back or any unexpected discomfort. The nights of restless sleep due to uneven terrain are over!
Space-Saving Design:
As a mature traveler, I appreciate gear that doesn’t take up unnecessary space. The Trekology UL80 rolls up into a compact package, leaving plenty of room for other essentials in my backpack. It’s a fantastic space-saving solution for those who value both comfort and efficiency.
Versatile Use:
While designed for camping, I’ve found the Trekology UL80 to be versatile beyond measure. It’s perfect for not only camping trips but also for overnight stays with friends or family. It’s even become my go-to for impromptu picnics and outdoor concerts, adding an extra layer of comfort to every outing.
Durable Quality:
This camping mat has proven its durability over time. It has withstood various terrains, weather conditions, and even the occasional pet encounter without any signs of wear. The investment in the Trekology UL80 feels like a wise one, knowing it’s built to last.
In Conclusion:
As someone who has seen a fair share of camping mats over the years, I can confidently say that the Trekology UL80 is in a league of its own. Its exceptional comfort, easy inflation, support, and durability have transformed my camping experience. Whether you’re in your 50s like me or simply seeking the ultimate sleeping solution for your outdoor adventures, this mat is an excellent choice. It’s a testament to comfort and quality, reminding us that a good night’s sleep is a treasure at any age. Happy camping!
Used mine for the first time and it was just perfect, I weigh 100 Kilos and was expecting to have my hip bone resting on the floor come morning but it stayed as inflated as when i blew it up the afternoon before, Top tips >> Get one of those cheap little rechargeable air pumps that doubles as a light for inflation, so quick and easy, And inflate it to the point of where you can put your fist into it and just about feel the ground underneath, job done :), Highly recommended bit of ki
I lm a side sleeper and I had a self inflating 2.5 thick mat but it was crap so I see these on YouTube and took the plunge and it’s awesome comfy and well made
I know there have been mixed reviews on this product but I cannot fault it.
I recently camped over a weekend and did not have to re inflate the mat at all over the four nights I slept on it.
I used a reflective roll mat under it to add protection and retain heat and enjoyed four comfortable nights sleep.
Packs down ridiculously small as well.
Superb for travelling light, and use it for a long camping holiday too with no issues. If you move a lot when sleeping you might find it too narrow even with the raised edges
I inflate this by mouth and find it partially deflates overnight. Not sure whether this is my warm breath cooling overnight or whether it has a leak. Still just ok in the morning. Good comfort.
Worked well. Slept well, unliked the foam mats I had before. You have to blow a little more air I it even night but that’s no big deal.
Overall I would recommend.
Used it for 9 consecutive days camping, used mini pump to inflate..
30secs.
I’m 6’3″ 88kg. Plenty long enough, plenty of cushioning (don’t over inflate). Never needed topping up. Easy to deflate and store, light enough to carry in bike pannier.
Wider would be better, but I knew what I was buying
After the usual rubber smelling air beds I treated the kids in a caravan awning annex to these. Work well. Less bulky. Fold small. Don’t over inflate or not so comfortable. We have a pump in the caravan so we haven’t messed them up blowing them up with damp air. I’d watch that.
On the whole, this is really good. It folds down to a very small space. My only criticism is that it could be a touch wider – I’m not a fat bloke, so any ‘large frame’ people will struggle with it.
Easy and quick to inflate. I bought this a while back so a newer model may be available now, but new things tend to be more expensive.
Arrived today, happy with the size / thickness..blew up in a min or so..I’m about 5′ 7′ and plenty long. Packed up handy enough too on a flat surface.
Haven’t tried it camping yet but will do so in the next few weeks. So long as it doesn’t leak I don’t see an issue.
Big price difference the the higher R rated ones I looked at (about 20% of the price of some) but I have a good all season down sleeping bag so hopefully
Gave 4 stars on first impressions.
The UL80 outperforms mats triple the price, it’s light, packs down small, is quiet under your bag but is thick enough to not ground out. Long enough for the tall but could be a little wider at 57cm, the bigger built back sleepers will find their arms off the sides, however the contoured shape holds you from rolling. Along with a favourite bag and pillow this will be a permanent fixture in your sleep system.
I rarely review things, but this air bed is genuinely amazing. I used to use a single air bed bought from a supermarket which weighed a tonne and never folded back up into its box. This thing folds so small it actually amazes me – when I go camping I feel like I need to show everybody because it blows my mind every time. I bought the trekology pillow to match, which somehow fits in the same tiny bag too! Its also comfortable to lie on, even for side sleepers. It needs an extra puff of air if you’re using it across several nights, but otherwise holds my weight just fine, without sinking anywhere enough to touch the ground. And it’s fairly quick to inflate with lung power alone if you need to – very impressive bit of ki
Not a bad price on this mat, inflates quite easily due to the one way valve but a pump is a useful addition to have with any of these types of mat. Long enough and just about wide enough for me, I’m over 6 feet and can fit on well, I’m a side sleeper and had no issues with the size. It’s comfy enough, I don’t over inflate it and the only real issue with use is the lack of traction with my groundsheet whenever you can’t get a flat pitch.
Delflates and packs back into the sack easily enough – there’s a knack to folding it – the ony slight concern is the condensation inside the mat, so a good airing before rolling up might be advised.
All good though, would buy again, just hope I don’t need to yet!
I’ve only used this for one three night wild camping trip and I was worried about it deflating but it didn’t deflate at all. It’s the most comfortable mat I’ve used although I would say if you’re broad maybe go for a slightly wider pad. I was warm enough given it dropped to around 2C on one of the nights but I wouldn’t use it in conditions much colder than that, it isn’t particularly warm.
lovely product, but wayyyy to narrow for me, I’m planning to go to Glastonbury and the reviews of 6ft 17stone men sleeping on this fine sold me! But at 5ft 2 and 10 stone, if I lay flat on it my shoulders are off the bed and arms both on the floor- I am side sleeper, but for 5 nights and the ammount of tossing and turning I do at night- it’s going to be saved for the kids on our camping trips! And I’ll still get a mat, but will look for a double
Love it, cheaper than the main brands but better quality, I do not get those who think a Name Brand means better. Having laughed at my mate when he thought an air mat for hiking, thinking it would be comfortable, only to have it leak and squeak all night. This one did the job reliably for only a few ounces more in weight. My only complaint is that the sizing may be good for use by people from the east but us Bigger Viking Types it needs a little more ass room. Please make it a bit wider and it will be perfect.
Having used a classic Thermarest for years, tried this as tired of shoulder digging into ground (as I am a side sleeper). Can only usually cope with a couple of nights camping before my back starts to ache but 4 nights on this and no issues. By far the most comfortable sleep had camping in years! Felt as comfortable as a bed. Inflation take a while if blowing up manually but if you have a foot pump or electric pump then takes no time at all & super quick to deflate. Also WAY easier than Thermarest to pack away – easy to fold/roll up and fit back into the sturdy storage bag. Likely to now replace rest of family’s Thermarests with the same.
It’s light enough but I wouldn’t call it ultralight, but for the price, it’s about as good as you’ll get.
Next day delivery with amazon prime was a selling point for me as I needed something quick, but cheap, to replace my thermarest.
Pros- it compacts small, same size as my thermarest.
It keeps you off of the ground, and the shape keeps you from rolling off the sides.
I am 5’11 and had plenty of length and width.
Cons- the valve is a bit dubious, twice I pulled it out as I was blowing the mat up, and I think over time it will soften and begin to leak air. Their pillow design valve feels a lot stronger.
There is no insulation and so this makes it a late spring, summer, and early autumn mat only, you’ll need at least a high r value additional foam mat if using in the winter IMO.
In summary, I wish I had waited a little longer, and spent a lot more, and gone with another thermarest or other mat at their price, and quality range.
Update after 6 uses:
Valve has softened and the mat deflated in the night. It would have been a good summer mat but the valve design let’s it down big time. Why didn’t trekology use the same locking mechanism as in their inflatable pillows?
Update 2. After a more careful inspection of the mat I discovered a part of the seam was leaking. I contacted trekology and after sending some photos of the leak they have apologised and are sending a replacement mat out. There is always a chance of an occasional faulty product in every aspect of life and it is a testimony to how good a company is with how they deal with their customers. Trekology is one of the good ones, excellent customer service and the reason I will continue to look for and purchase their products.
Bought this is a lightweight alternative to the cheap, self-inflating mat I’d been using. I wanted something that would pack down to a smaller size and reduce the weight of my pack. I was also looking for something that was a bit thicker than what I had been using, as I mostly sleep on my side. The UL80 did all of those things, and for a great price. I bought the pump sack to go with it, and the pillow. When it arrived I was blown away by how small it was when packed – it took up about 1/4 of the volume of my old self inflating mat, and was slightly under half the weight. The inflation valve is really easy to use, and makes a perfect seal when connected to the pump sack. Using the pump sack took some getting used to, but once you figure it out and get into a bit of rhythm the mat inflates quite quickly. I wouldn’t like to try blowing it up myself (by mouth) – especially after a day’s hike – so while the pump sack is an additional thing to carry and can be a bit of a faff to use, I’d definitely recommend using one. When inflated the mat is really thick and comfortable. I’m 6′ (183cm) and it is plenty long enough. I’m also just under 16 stone (around 100kg) and even lying on my side I wasn’t hitting the floor underneath me. When moving about, or sitting/kneeling while messing about with kit etc you do sometimes feel the ground, but once my weight was evenly distributed that was never an issue. I do wish they would offer a wider option, something in the region of 60cm or so, as I find my arms hang off the sides when lying on my back. Given the depth of the mat, your arms flopping to the floor is quite annoying and can be uncomfortable. For all its narrow, I haven’t fallen off it yet – which given how much I roll about in my sleep is quite an achievement. The lack of insulation in the mat can make for a cold, miserable night if used out of season. I’ve tried it camping twice now, when the temperature dropped to around 0C. I was freezing cold on both occasions – and this was using the same sleeping back that I’d previously used with the old self-inflating mat in colder weather and been toasty warm. The first time I used just the UL80, I was curious to see how it might fare in cold weather. It’s not designed to be a winter mat so I’m not complaining that it didn’t keep me warm. The second time I tried it, I put my Thermarest foam roll mat underneath, hoping that might help keep me insulated from the ground. If it made a difference I’m afraid I didn’t notice, I was still freezing. So, for me here in Scotland, I think I’ll only be using the UL80 in warmer weather, and sticking to the self-inflating mat with roll mat underneath for my winter set up. So, if your curious how this might cope with the cold weather, wonder no longer! Used correctly, it’s an amazingly comfortable mat that packs very small, is lightweight, and great value for money.
This is by far the most comfortable sleep mat I have ever used and will definitely be my go to sleep mat from now on. It is everything you need for a backpacking trip. Small, Light and comfortable.
I know some people have said they’ve had issues with them deflating overnight but I’ve not found that to be the case with my one.
Although it looks too long for my tent in the picture I’ve added, it did actually fit in the sleep area perfectly and also fits perfectly into my OEX Phoxx 2 V2 solo tent.
I would suggest you use this mat with an insulating layer underneath such as a foil blanket or something similar or you may well feel the cold from underneath in cooler weather but if used with an insulating layer you will have a good and comfortable nights sleep.
I’ve seen it said by other owners that they think it takes a lot to inflate it and that you should really use an inflation bag or a pump. I say that’s just not necessary. They say you wouldn’t want to be blowing into it after hiking up a hill but I think we’d all be taking 5 or 10 minutes to get our breath back anyway after a hike uphill and the mat inflates very easily with lung power so don’t let those other reviews put you off.
All in all as I’ve said I think it’s the perfect mat for any camper / backpacker.
I am a ‘side sleeper’ and I tend to be most comfortable in the foetal position so with thinner mats my hips tend to press on the ground. Over the years I have become used to that but with this mat being some four inches thick I will be much more comfortable at night. When lying on this mat no part of me touched the ground.
It needs to be said that the insulation provided by this mat will not be enough for use in winter but I plan to use it on top of a foam mat so that I’ll have the best of both worlds – warmth and comfort. And from late spring, through summer and into autumn the mat will be adequate on its own.
I did notice a very slight tendency to roll on the mat but nowhere near as much as I’ve found with traditional ‘Lilo’ style inflatable mattresses and I did not feel in any danger of rolling off the mat. Having tried it over several nights at home, I am now looking forward to using it when the lockdown ends and I can go bikepacking.
ADDENDUM DATED 11 MOTHS AFTER ORIGINAL PURCHASE. Has anyone else discovered that the mat simply loses its inflation for no apparent reason? I have tried immersing it in water but I cannot find any bubbles so maybe it simply leaks through the fabric?
Have given 3 star for ease of inflation because it is supplied without a pump sack and little to no information on valve size etc. It states to use a standard electric inflator pump but quite how you can do that on the top of a hill miles from any mains or vehicle power completely boggles the mind. The mat is excellent in every other sense and if it came with a pump sack or links to a suitable such device in the budget category to suit, it’d be worthy of universal 5 stars in all regards. Unfortunately, having bought, you’re left to it and that’s a major flaw imho.
Anyway, it’s pack size is tiny, substantial space in the drawstring bag for pump sack, foil ground sheet etc and it’s pretty light. Have spent last night on it and it easily coped with my 110k weight, no leaks and speedy inflation/deflation etc. As a standalone product, it’s a dream product at the price but Trekology, sort out the inflation pump issue! It would cost nothing to supply info pointing to a suitable pumpsack that fits at a suitable price point. Maybe supply/manufacture one to suit.
Right, back on the hunt for a compatible pump sack…
The photographs show one of my chosen campsites above a Lake District pass, at around 500m elevation in September. I thought it better to actually use this pad before reviewing it, plenty of things are comfy when tested on a carpeted bedroom floor.
Inflation – I bought and wholeheartedly recommend the additional inflation drybag from Trekology. Using this it takes about three minutes to inflate the mat whilst inside the tent (my tent is big enough for me to do this in comfort, if your tent is a little more cramped it shouldn’t take longer outside but you might not be as dry). The inflation bag is incredibly easy to use, stops condensation gunking up the mat’s innards and clips nicely in to the one way inflation valve. I’ve found that when the bag pops off the valve then the mat is correctly inflated for my weight and preference.
Comfort – once inflated it has remained that way, without issue or exception. No waking up on the cold, hard ground for me. It doesn’t bottom out whether I lie on my back or side (I’ve found lots of mats bottom out on my hips when lying on my side, not this one). It is genuinely comfortable too. Now, let’s not get silly – we’re not talking king-size waterbed levels of squish here, but I have certainly slept on less comfortable actual hotel beds. More important than how easy it is to fall asleep on this thing is how you wake up. I’ve had no aches or pains, no cold spots, no frozen shoulders from sleeping on it, I’ve woken up fresh and ready to sling it and everything else on my back for another day. That really is the gold standard for backpack camping.
Shape – hard to be scientific about it but I think the raised edges work. The material is a bit slippery but I haven’t slid off the sides yet.
Size – I’m 6’3″ and just shy of 17 stone, think second row forward and built to shift heavy objects, not exactly svelte but fit enough to yomp over mountains. I fit on this thing, top to toe, shoulder to shoulder, and without any of the bits in-between being on the floor. There are more than a few other mats that I wouldn’t have bothered trying, at my size if it’s only an inch and a half thickness of air before I get on then it stands no chance. This mat just works nicely.
Noise – it isn’t crinkly when you’re on it and it hasn’t woken me up when I’ve moved on it. No, it isn’t silent, is anything in your tent silent? If I stay completely still I swear I can hear the grass growing whilst I’m in mine, this mat doesn’t spoil that or make any strange or annoying noises either.
Weight – it weighs what they claim. Wrapped up with the inflation bag it’s a touch over 600g, frankly ridiculous for the price. Yes, there are lighter mats out there, but they cost a lot more and I’m not sure they’d be any more comfortable. I don’t own a Thermarest so don’t take that as gospel but I think this thing is an absolute sweet spot for price and comfort, bargain territory.
Pack size – packs down small, quickly and easily. The two stage valve makes deflating it a doddle. Much smaller than my previous self inflating sleeping pad, much lighter too.
R-Value – no idea. Does anyone really know? I know I haven’t gotten cold on it yet, and that’s the only real world test I use. I wouldn’t recommend taking this out on a glacier but for my three season tent this feels like an entirely adequate three season mat.
Durability – I haven’t killed it yet. As an entirely air filled pad any pinhole will do for it, so be careful what you track into your tent. It came with a patch kit, I’ve not needed it to say whether it works.
What I’d improve – it can be slippery. My tent has a sil-nylon floor, and my bag is the usual ripstop nylon fare. It’s a bit easy to find yourself sliding down the mat in the night if your pitch isn’t totally level. I camp where I like, but where I like usually involves gradients, finding a totally level pitch isn’t realistic most of the time. The addition of some rubberised print on the top and bottom of the mat might add a few grammes but I think it would be worth it. I’m going to try some sections of non-slip drawer liner next time I go out, light and easily packed, hopefully can be used under or on top of the mat. Other than that teeny suggestion, can’t fault the thing.
I strongly recommend this product.
Morning all
Little review
Recently I gifted myself with a Trekology mat and I thought I will share /compare my experience so far. I’m a side sleeper and on top of that I have damaged shoulder so finding a comfortable mat was a bit challenging. Nevertheless, I had one night sleep on that mat, in the tent, on some grass/stone soil (so not too perfect but perfect for a trail) and I can honestly say it was one on the best nights sleep I had in the tent. There is few pointers :
1. Is not self-inflating but it only takes 2 min to do it (or less if you have good lungs). It has that blocking system (no clue how you call it, have a look on the pictures) so is really easy to do the job.
2. Stayed up all night
3. Nice and high, I slept on my side and didn’t touched the ground
4. The sided are slightly higher. Absolutely brilliant!! Finally I stopped rolling of the mat. That thing really worked!!
5. Nice good length
6. Folds really fast and easy
7. Small and light
8. The only “negative” (if someone could be bothered with that): mat is a bit noisy. But tbh once you gone, doesn’t matter.
I ordered mine on Amazon for 40 and I’m very happy with my product.
I added few photos and compared with Thermarest Prolite.
Trekology is aboug 120g lighter and a lot smaller.
Hope somebody can find this helpful
This sleeping pad is great and reduces down to a very small portable package – fantastic when carrying your own load. The shape helps prevent rolling off and the thickness gives a level of comfort not normally experienced with a foam mat.
Inflation is a challenge – I tried to inflate by mouth one time, but had to lie down part way through – there’s a lot of air needed. However once I’d invested in a hand pump, it was great, but I needed to devise my own adapter, as I couldn’t find a commercial one.
Secondly, it is quite narrow, but sensibly long so your whole body fits onto the mat. Larger people might feel it’s a bit tight.
I would also recommend making sure you have a horizontal surface. As there are no anchor points to the outside, when on a slope, there will be a tendency for the mat and you to head downhill through the night. As this is an inflatable, I would recommend using at least a thin foam mattress to give protection from sharp objects in the ground, and that also offers a little more insulation from the cold ground.
A great investment for me, and packs up so small, that you might lose track of it in your pack!
