I chose the red one,it works great ,it has a lead but it’s a long one whi h I like as I can still play from the sofa, works fine…its quite hard plastic, but for a cheap one it does the job.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI know that some people who bought this had problems, but all I can say is that my experience of it has been excellent. It does exactly what it’s supposed to. I can now use Geforce Now and Games Pass on my phone with ease. The device connected to Bluetooth in seconds and everything just worked from there. I’m using it with a Samsung S22 Ultra, which is huge, and it fits no problem. I suspect that this thing will fit almost any phone, although the little retaining lips on the front mean that unless your phone case is perfectly flush with your screen, you will probably have to take it off. This is an excellent bit of kit and a great price. One thing though, if you are going to use services such as Geforce Now, you will need strong, steady internet for an enjoyable experience…

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI wasn’t expecting much from this controller. However, It exceeded my expectations. The quality is very good and very light also. Has a lot more buttons and only took a short amount of time to get use to it. No issues with this controller and feels comfortable while in use.

Plug it into games console or PC and it works great. Easy to program buttons. Contols just as good as my Xbox X controller. Probably going to order a second one.

I’ve bought several types of X box one controllers, none ever last more than a couple of months. I decided to give these a try for my teenagers and both say they are great and much better to use

Im a casual gamer and it does what it needs to do for me. The value is amazing compared to buying other controllers. Response is very good, I haven’t ran into problems playing with it anyway and I’ve had this for a few months

I always hold back a few weeks before doing reviews, because you never know!
So, had this a good few weeks with NO issues at all. Nice long cable, no stick drift and a decent construction. Works well on both PC and Xbox One. So far nk bad points either ad for the price ats what you expect.

Firstly the reviews when you look at them are not all for the ATOM.

The controller comes in a nicely presented box and looks smart. Using Turtle Beach headsets for years and having no issues I was expecting this to be very similar in reliability. It does not disapoint.

The controller inside the packaging comes in a neat little branded turtle beach cloth bag. A nice touch but doesn’t serve much purpose other than protection from scratches.

This is a 2 part controller that charges via USB C and does not offer connectivity via hard connection – Bluetooth only. The controller packs away to an oversized wallet size little bit to big to go in a pocket but perfect to go into a backpack.

The controller splits and attaches to the mobile device via a clamp in system. You will possibly struggle with any other case other than a thin silicone type. But if you don’t mind dropping the device out of its case its a much better experience, it feels nice and snug once clamped in.

Once connected the first part of the controller pairs with the second and works impressively well.

I have tested this using the Xbox remote play and other than graphics being slightly worse (nothing to do with the ATOM) most games are very playable and enjoyable as much as if you were using the TV. It’s nice to use if you fancy a quick game but don’t fancy going into the room where your console is or if your out and about.

    Personally

Feels lightweight and flimsy which I thought would be an issue but its fine and has survived the usual drops and knocks. Sound feature seems OK but not really tested it on a game where it would make a difference. Normally use wireless controllers but have not had any issues either the wire, long enough to sit a comfort distance from TV.

Basically needed a new controller and bought this one due to the reviews.
I have not plugged in the headphones yet because I don’t need quiet game play, but will at some point as it seems to be a key feature.
My only beef with the unit, are the L2 and R2 buttons that sit on the top of the controller for your index fingers. I just feel they are too small by comparison to the original xbox control. It works but I feel I am missing it sometimes as it doesn’t come far enough left or right on the controller.

I never leave reviews. But this pad is perfect for SF6. The dpad is soft so it’s easy to QCF. The low price means it’s affordable to replace. Pedals at the back help with shooters.

Having gone through 4 PowerA controllers that failed because they are poorly made I looked for a different budget brand. I got one of these and, being a daily gamer, I can say it has lasted me months so far and, as yet, no stick drift, sticking buttons or anything; it’s working as well as new and I expect I will buy another when mine eventually fails which may yet be some time.

Very good controller for the price you pay. I play on pc and it worked as soon as I plugged in just like the official. Extra buttons are a nice touch, some of the standard buttons are placed slightly different compared to the original but you get used to it after a couple hours. The only thing I didn’t like at first was the grip texture however again you get used to this. Overall a very good controller especially for the price. 4/5 recommend

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve been using this on a Windows PC and it cost me around half the price of the official xbox pad. As you’d expect the official pad is better quality but the React-R works well and I prefer the D-pad on it.

It’s not wireless, it comes with a 2.5m long detachable cable (USB-A to USB-C) and also works with other USB-C cables. It has two additional buttons on the back which you can map yourself. The analogue sticks have a bit more resistance than the official pad, the analogue triggers are a bit louder when pressed and the rumble motor vibrates a little louder. I prefer the D-pad as it doesn’t make loud clicks like the official pad.

It has a 3.5mm audio jack with a useful microphone mute button and light indicator so you know when it’s muted. There is button called ‘Superhuman hearing’ which sounds gimmicky but does give an audio boost. When comparing the audio quality to the official pad they both sounded similar.

In summary it’s not as high quality as an official pad but it’s a good cheaper alternative that I’d recommend if you can get it for around 25.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cheaper alternative to the official pad - Turtle Beach React-R

Love this controller, I use it for online shooters mostly like apex legends. Sticks feel great, not had any stick drift, the 2 back buttons are really nice and easily map them to any button you want, takes maybe 3 seconds to do it. Comfortable to hold for long periods of time, and the feature to increase audio to hear enemy footsteps really does work. I don’t use it too often because it does become quite loud but that’s the purpose of the button really.
No complaints so far. Have been using it about 1 month maybe a little longe

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirst impressions of this controller when you open the packaging is not good I’m afraid. This looks and feels like cheap rubbish. But get past that and start using this controller and you realise it’s a decent substitute for the more expensive official controllers. The usb c lead it comes with is surprisingly long and also serves as a good lead for charging your phone as well. For the price it’s a bit of a bargain. Obviously the official Xbox one controllers look and feel more superior but this is a budget controller that exceeded my expectations.

This joypad and a Recon-500 headset is a match made in heaven. Been using for over 2 months before review, no issues at all. The inbuild features do what they say, i have remapped the shoulder buttons to the rear paddles and it’s so comfy to use.

This is the second one I got . First lasted just over a year before stick drift got to bad to use . The mapable back buttons, headset controls and the mic monitoring are pretty good . I prefer this over xbox elite controllers (that always had faults from new ).downside are controller feels a bit light and it’s not wireless.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have used the normal Xbox controller with attachments and a series elite 2 as well and for the price this is the best out of them both, I have a wireless headset so I can’t use all the features but I’ve been told that if you also have a wired headset this controller is a no brained as it improves the wired headset with the sound presets and the superhuman hearing function but that aside this controller feels great, awesome response time, great button feel but the sticks are maybe a little to clicks and loud and the bumpers aren’t clicks enough but you don’t notice the sticks when you have a headset on and you get used to the soft feeling of the bumpers, the back paddles are easy to assign and are super good and I actually prefer them over the back paddles of the series’s elite! The most important thing for me is how good the analog sticks feel to actually move though as they have a really nice tension and from coming back to Xbox from PS4 I’ve always loved the controller but the series controllers have also felt super loose when it comes to tension but this recon controller feels perfect and more akin to a DualShock which I like! Makes me want to try more wired controllers in the future but for now I will deffo stick with the recon and I’m going to sell my series elite controller now as this has impressed me so much!

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersTHIS IS NOT AN IN DEPTH REVIEW. I will not cover the audio side of it or the programmable buttons.

I bought this replace an XBox One controller that was used for PC gaming. While I didn’t want to go back to a wired controller, it was something I was willing to consider.

The connection for it is USB-C, and the cable supplied is braided (feels quality), but also extremely long so if it’s going to be used at close quarters you might want to get a slightly shorter cable. As for installation it’s plug and play with Windows 10 and 11 (and probably earlier OS versions), and once it’s been detected by Windows, you’re good to go. Or at least you’d think so.

If the controller is shipped with the 1.03 firmware, after a while it can power itself down. Once this happens you have to unplug the controller from the PC and plug it back in again. This is far from ideal because there’s an added level of stress on the components and sooner or later something is going to break. After a bit of investigation, it turned out that the controller needed to have the firmware updated. I went to the Turtle Beach site, downloaded the software, and the firmware was updated pretty quickly. This seems to have fixed the issue, so if you have this problem then there’s the fix.

In use the controller feels sturdy enough. Flex is at a minimum (you really have to apply crazy pressure), and it’s not overly heavy nor unduly light. It’s got a really nice texture and it’s also not as prone to making your hands sweat. You can use this controller for ages and it not be a problem.

Something that counts in it’s favour is the travel distance of the triggers and sticks. They’re slightly less than on a standard controller and this leads to less input lag (smaller dead zone) and increased responsiveness. If you play FPS or racing games then it’s definitely better than a lot of other controllers out there. I play a lot of racing and simulation games, and I’ve noticed that my game has definitely upped ever so slightly. Anything that requires fine control (as opposed to fully depressing a trigger or going in a direction) will require a bit of refinement, but it’s not unduly difficult and pretty soon motor memory will kick in with the new values.

Something worth noting is that there are also trigger buttons underneath, and these can be mapped to functions. If you’ve ever driven a paddle shift car or used a paddle shift control wheel, it feels quite natural using these as gear shift buttons, but they’re also useful for FPS and simulators.

The buttons also have just the right amount of tactile feedback, and you can be fairly confident that a press has registered. Tactile feedback is also where it fails as well. The vibrations are mediocre at best. I’ve had controllers in the past that have been physically unpleasant to hold and I’m surprised they haven’t shaken themselves apart because of the vibrations, but this is a bit of a buzz (my XBox controller danced all over the desk, this doesn’t). I don’t particularly like overpowered motors, but these could definitely do with a little more oomph.

There’s the nice addon of a screenshot/video button. This seems to tie into the XBox PC app, and a short press grabs a screenshot, while a long press activates screen recording. This seems to be handled by the XBox client and overlay, but it’s useful enough to hit without requiring you to remove your hands from the controller.

As far as the lights on the controller go, they’re not bad. Visible in bright lighting, and not glaring in low light conditions. When you’re playing, you can easily reference what you want, but it’s not bright enough that it’s drawing attention away from the screen or ruining your vision in low lit areas.

If you’re a mid level gamer then you can do a lot worse than this controller. Everything seems to be done to the “just right” specification, with possibly the exception of the vibration motors.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI’ve recently purchased the Turtle Beach Recon Controller and the Power A Spectra Infinity and whilst both are really good ‘budget pro controllers’ with extra features over the official Wireless Xbox One/Series S|X controllers, the Turtle Beach Recon Controller just might be my favourite.

+ Has a nice weight and feel to it. The controller is slightly lighter than the official Microsoft controller (and also the PowerA Spectra Infinity)
+ Kontrol Freeks fit fine, I had no movement or turning, same as an official controller.
+ Ergonomically very similar to the official controller.
+ Includes the impulse trigger motors for games like Forza (unlike the Spectra Infinity). Vibration doesn’t feel as smooth as the official controllers though.
+ Analogue stick tension slightly tighter and smoother than the official Xbox controller. Which is great for FPS and third-person shooters.
+ Back buttons are great, placed perfectly and bigger than the Spectra Infinity. Fairly easy to program with 4 different profiles which can be stored and easily selected from.
+ The microphone monitoring, easy volume and chat controls on the controller are amazing. Tested AKG K361’s and Antlion Modmic Uni plugged into the 3.5mm jack and was able to drive them to higher volumes than the official controller. Slight noise floor on the headphones but unlike my Xbox One controller there was no blips or noise when moving the jack in the socket (may be that particular controller).

Not that many negatives, although the controller and buttons do feel a bit ‘plasticky’. Not as nice feel as the Spectra which has better feeling triggers, shoulder buttons and d-pad. The included USB cable has a slight wiggle in the controller, and the start/select menu buttons are closer to the sticks which makes them harder to reach in the heat of the moment. The triggers also can be slightly noisier given the lip hits the casing. But there are no ‘deal breakers’ particularly given the price. In the short time I’ve had with it, I can’t talk about durability, but I hope that part holds up well too.

Overall I am really impressed with this controller which is fantastic value for money. The back buttons are great, the controller has a light weight to it and with all the grips and ergonomics fits really well. However the key unique selling point is the built in audio controls and features (which seem to match the Turtle Beach Headset Audio Controller Plus adaptor for Xbox One/Series S|X controllers). And those make the controller incredibly useful for online games where you need microphone etc. This controller essentially adds mic monitoring, EQ, volume controls and chat/game volume mixing on the fly to ANY set of wired headphones or headset. And having the mute button and volume controls right to hand all on the joypad can feel like a game changer too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good 'budget pro controller' with a unique and potentially killer set of audio features

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersOverall built quality is excellent. Feels good in the hands.
Triggers and buttons have a textured surface which takes some getting used to, but should prove much better than the slippery triggers of a normal xbox controller.
Thumbsticks are also textured, which is a very welcome addition. The sticks themselves also feel great and they have a good springy feel with no drift that I could detect.

Onto things I am not so fond of:
D-pad travel is quite a bit more than standard. Makes using the D-pad awkward and slow.
Shoulder buttons are AWFUL. They feel spongy and often don’t register, or if they do register and you need to hold them down, the slightest reduction in pressure will disengage them.
The triggers are inexplicably the exact opposite. They stop dead against the controller casing and it is actually audible. Not a big deal in itself, but the difference between the triggers and the shoulder buttons are vast and that makes it uncomfortable, with a weird tactile feedback.

The addition of the additional buttons underneath the controller is great. They are positioned absolutely perfectly. And although they can be mapped to the thumbsticks, shoulders or D-pad as “alternative” buttons, they can’t be mapped to the menu selection buttons, which is a big disappointment for me because that was one of the main reasons I pre-ordered this. Because they claimed the buttons could be mapped to “any” buttons on the controller. This simply isn’t true.

I will persist with this controller, but it is not a comfortable transition from my older XBOX ONE controller.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersOk first impression. It is light (due to being wired and no batteries) and has a plastic velvet feel. The grips are a nice touch and prevent the sweaty hands from slipping. The triggers feel shorter press than the official xbox controller and all other buttons feel very tactile. The D-Pad felt a bit strange at first as it is like a deep dish and it has a lot of travel to press in each direction. I tried it on Street Fighter 3rd strike and was initially disappointed. But a few rounds and I was throwing out DP’s no problem. I wouldn’t say it is as good a D-Pad as the official xbox controller, (but nothing I have ever used is) but it is far and away better than the 8BitDo Pro which I hate for fighting games. Not tried the sound setting yet as I don’t use headphones much. But the analogue sticks feel as good as official controller. THe back customisable buttons are great too. Just need to work out how to set them for sprinting in FPS games.

Easily the best 3rd party controller I have tried. (and I have tried a few)

Edited: couple of weeks of use controller is still a joy to use. Great sound but wonky jack socket where sound cuts out at slightest touch, so unbearable in FPS games.
