But this is a replacement for my old carbon monoxide alarm. Particularly like the digital display, as it shows previous readings for men you may not have been around. Unit itself is very easy to install, and only took seconds to do. I have tested the unit using it’s test button, and it works just fine.
A great ten year life and easy to setup by 2 AA battery.
Will keep my mind at peace.
This item arrived nicely packaged in a cardboard box. I’ve not heard of ultrafire before, but needed a replacement for the one i have so gave this a try. I keep it by my boiler at home and sometimes take it with me on trips/holidays if I stayed in a rented house. The alarm is small so easy to take around, easy to navigate, easy to set up and is loud. It worked well from the testing too. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 star is because I dont actually know it works or not but hopefully i never will, but all in all, it seems good
This is a improved variant of UBC01 having a display as well ( from here the denomination UBC01D) and does exactly the same thing as the previous model with the difference of showing instantly the CO2 level and not only to trigger the alarm when you over the limit.Same excellent quality build and same compact size.
We just had our gas central heating boiler serviced and these days one of the items the engineer checks is for the presence of a Carbon Monoxide sensor and suggests it if you don’t have one. Plus it’s now mandated by law, especially for landlords, wherever there’s a combustion appliance so it seems like a pretty good idea. This UltraFire seemed to fit the bill and so far it’s been great and looks and feels like a solid enough device.
It’s a moderate size and has the option of self-standing or wall installation, the back plate removes for battery insertion and has a couple of screw ‘keyholes’ so it’s easy enough to wall mount with the supplied screws. The instruction leaflet is all in plain English and quite comprehensive with advice on the best location for the device plus an explanation of the different alarms it can sound. The device will react slightly differently to different concentrations and durations of CO with lower levels requiring longer exposure before triggering. It also remembers previous exposures in case your boiler or other device is only leaking CO at certain moments rather than constantly and will alert you of this.
A CO alarm is one of those things you hope you never hear going off and until it does it’s hard to say it’s totally accurate but it certainly seems to be a reliable and well thought-out device and worth its weight in gold if it does actually keep you safe from CO intoxication.
DONT PUT A PRICE ON SAFETY.
i have worked in the gas industry for 50 years so i am well aware of the dangers that fossil fuel burning appliances present. Carbon dioxide is known as “THE SILENT KILLER” in the trade, as it is invisible, odourless and colourless, so there is no way that you can detect it without one of these detectors.
It is certified BS EN 50291-1:2018 (domestic use) standards and comes with both CE and UKCA markings, it is essential that only these approved detectors are used, don’t be tempted by the Chinese cheepies as it is your life that you are gambling with. This standard is only applicable to domestic use.
Like most of these detectors, the sensor does not have an infinite lifespan, 10 years in this particular case, it is important that they are replaced prior to expiry.
This unit feels a quality manufacture with a pleasing design. It can Freestanding on a flat surface and doesnt look out of place doing do, it also has the facility to wall mount using the appropriate keyhole slots on the rear, screws and plugs are supplied for this purpose.
2 x alkaline batteries are supplied, however I would recommend using duracell or similar from the off and use the supplied ones in another device as these manufacturer supplied batteries are always of poor quality with limited lifespan in my experience.
The unit doubles as a thermometer as the display alternates between CO concentration and ambient temperature.
There are two status indicators, a led traffic light system as well as LED digital parts per million readout, so status can easily be determined at a glance even from across the room as well as a battery level display.
The detector should ideally be fitted at shoulder height, not on the floor, as Carbon Monoxide has a relative density similar to air.
Whether the digital display is of any useful benefit is debatable as it could cause concern if fluctuating readings are displayed over a period of time. Remember that carbon monoxide is naturally present in the atmosphere (spewed out from motor vehicle exhausts etc) so there will be fluctuations. It is when it reaches denser saturation, such as in an enclosed space, that is of concern and hopefully the alarm will trigger to alert you of this, so only an audible alarm is really necessary.
In summary, it looks to be a decent quality detector, at a reasonable price (18.70 at time of review)….providing of course it works when it needs to!
A smashing digital display carbon monoxide alarm. This comes as freestanding or wall mounted with the accessories for hanging. It also comes with 2 AA replaceable batteries. The unit has a 10 year life span and
It is certified to meet the BS EN 50291-1:2018 (domestic use) standards and comes with both CE and UKCA markings.
Easy to use and comes with a easy to understand instructions.
On test the Alarm is loud and clear.
Every home should have one.
Great carbon monoxide alarm, at a great price.
This item is identical to the Meross GS828 Carbon Monoxide alarm but is about six pounds cheaper.
The items look and work exactly the same, and though the box and instruction leaflets look different, their content is exactly the same, just rearranged.
As such, my review of the Meross is just copied here as in testing there were no differences at all!
Neat looking and multifunctional, this CO2 alarm will not only alert you to dangerous levels of CO2 but also displays the current CO2 level in parts per million in its LCD display.
The display alternates between CO2 level and ambient temperature.
The temperature seems to be pretty accurate, but it is difficult to confirm the CO2 measurement. When first powered on by removing the plastic battery tab (batteries are included and pre-nstalled) the display actually shared 6ppm fir a while then settled down to 0 and hasn’t moved since.
The alarm sounder can be tested by pressing the Test/silence button on the front for a couple of seconds, but obviously this doesn’t test the actual sensor. The sounder isn’t the loudest, but the manual implies that it may ramp up the volume in an actual alarm situation.
The carbon monoxide alarm comes in a retail cardboard box and inside you’ll find the alarm, 2x preinstalled AA batteries, 2x wall plugs with screws, and a user manual. It is claimed to have a 10-year battery life, which is normal for an alarm with a Carbon Monoxide sensor, as they should be replaced every 10 years.
It has a modern look to it and feels well built. It has a silence button, which can come in handy for false alarms or when an issue is solved, and it also acts as a test button to test the alarm periodically. It also has an LCD display which can display the current CO reading, ambient temperature, alarm status, and a low battery icon when the batteries start to run low. The display is easy to read and cycles through the CO reading and temperature every 40 seconds.
The alarm is switched on by removing the battery cover on the rear, and pulling out a plastic tab, and then the three LEDs on the front flash to indicate that it is powered up. I really like the design of the battery cover as you can’t slot the cover back in place without batteries being installed. There are two prongs that stick out which prevents you sliding the cover down and these disappear when you install batteries. This stops you taking the batteries out and putting it back on the wall and forgetting it has no batteries in. A simple idea but it shows they’ve thought about it, and I think it’s a great feature. There is row of LEDs below the test/silence button which can tell you what state the alarm is in. It gives a quick green flash to indicate it is working properly and it does that every 40 seconds. It’ll flash yellow if there is a fault and finally red to indicate an alarm status if it detects Carbon Monoxide. The battery compartment cover is what holds the alarm to the wall as you drill your holes with a 5mm drill bit, insert the wall plugs and screws, and you then hook the rear cover over the screw heads and screw it into place. You then slide the alarm over, and onto the cover which secures the alarm to the wall.
This is an alarm that you can fit yourself, you just need to screw it to the wall or ceiling and off you go. It can free stand on a sideboard as it has little stand out legs on the bottom edge so it doesn’t have to be fitted to a wall. It runs on 2x AA batteries so these can easily be replaced when needed. The LDC screen will alert you when the battery is low, so you know when they need replacing. Carbon Monoxide can’t be detected by the human body until its too late so having an alarm near any fuel burning appliances is essential to alert you very early on.
I ordered this as my previous is coming to the end of its shelf life and this being digital looked ideal.
The UltraFire brand is known to me -they have been in the business well over 10 years and experts in their field at supplying safety products to trade and homeso what’s not to like?
The price is not cheap but for safety around the home, I do not look at pennies. This being a digital model has more advanced readings and shows battery status (2x AA batteries were supplied). Traffic light coloured LEDs show status on fault/power/alarm. This is certified for domestic use (BS EN 50291-1- 2018) and has a couple of wall fixings included. I have it freestanding and the design is not out of place at all in the kitchen – in fact it is smaller than my previous one. The current temperature display is handy too. The manual is very clear and informative. As this appears to be their first CO alarm, there is no provision to download the manual online yet. All of their smoke alarms have manuals and I hope that this will be included as a pdf too in the near future.
The start up and test function worked fine, (the alarm is LOUD) and I hope that apart from battery change it is good for the 10 years life that it claims (it’s warranty is for 5 years).
These alarms are essential in homes where you have gas burning appliances (and don’t forget the fireplaces). Recommended
This Carbon Manoxide alarm does exactly what it says on the box. It’s loud and has 10 years of life in it (not 10 year battery). One of those items you setup, forget about and hope to never have to deal with but are rest assured it’s there doing it’s job. I would suspect it would beep when the battery is low but I have not been able to verify as I don’t have any low batteries lying around and not used it enough to test. I’ve plugged it in and stuck it next to the boiler to pick up if it ever leaks. Overall a nice fairly reasonably priced alarm that seems to be working fine.
What a very good high quality carbon monoxide alarm that has a ten year life which is standard with this type of detector but don’t forget you must test as per the instructions and replace battery’s when required, this comes with two AA battery’s so its out of the box pull the small plastic tag and it works immediately, this is certified to BS EN 50291-1:2018 for domestic use only. i have replaced another well know brand but this has a digital reading for temp and carbon particles, full five stars see pictures to show
UltraFire UBCO1D — 10 Year Life Battery Powered Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Digital Display
This Carbon Monoxide detector can literally be a lifesaver, and this should be used in all homes that have gas or oil burners (boilers, fires etc.). I like the fact that as well as being able to be wall mounted with the supplied fixing kit, it can also be used standalone which is unusual for this type of device.
The display has a traffic light display (RAG) as well as an actual PPM indicator on the display itself which is not normally found on this type of detector.
With all that said plus the fact that it has a 5 year warranty, and also a 10 year battery life, makes this a good buy in my opinion.
Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Digital Display and 10 years life, it works with 2xaa batteries and batteries are included. the installation screws are also included, seems like a very good product and it’s a must have in any home.
It’s a carbon monoxide alarm not a combined smoke and carbon one. So you may still need two devices rather than just one. I stupidly thought it one that did both.
Saying that this comes complete with batteries.
Looks modern and not a circular shaped one like we had a while back.
If you’ve got a wood burner or even near to your boiler it’s an extra safety device that’s worth the cost. This one also has the temperature showing on it too which is an added extra to our older one we had in garage.
Comes with easy fixing instructions and looks well made.
This is a very slick carbon monoxide device which is very important in every home
We have gas radiators + boiler, everything else is electric.
Years back we had a gas fire, remember us all having them, well a good few years ago a specialist gas man removed for us and capped off the pipe over time of having the boiler serviced I happened to mention my head hurting, long story short, I had carbon monied poisoning. The little pipe had been slowly leaking so me and my husband was quite poorly. We did have a device, which was about five years old. However we didn’t know the battery had died. In those days the devices used to bleep like a fire alarm, but this one didn’t. So lesson learned, check once a week.
We have two of these devices but a different make, these are very good with a ten year life battery, but a five year warranty.
Current cost at review 18.95 which is about the same price as my other.
I have two, just in case one doesn’t work correctly, but mainly peace of mind
We have one in the vicinity of the gas boiler, the newer on( this one) in the living room where the pipe is still there from the gas fire, this cannot be moved.
For once I know it isn’t a biggie but two replaceable AA alkaline battery’s are included, so can be used straight away.
LED display indicator lights show red, green to show the alarm is working, alarm and fault..
Doesn’t need to be on the wall, although mine is, can be on a unit wherever you need it.
Excellent product and will hopefully never need to go off
Decently made and every home needs one for sure, as I found out.
Thank you to the seller
I hope my review helps you.
I’ve got a gas boiler, and you have one (or a gas cooker) you really should have a carbon monoxide detector just in case your appliance isn’t aren’t burning the gas efficiently. My old detector, which is still working, doesn’t think I have problem (even though the date on it means that the detector needs replacing) and this one thinks I don’t have a problem either. Site it near where ever you are burning gas, and if you have a problem it should alert you. The detector takes two AA batteries, which were supplied. You should replace after 10 years.
The UltraFire UBCO1D Carbon Monoxide Alarm is an great device that is perfect for domestic use.
It is certified to meet the BS EN 50291-1:2018 (domestic use) standards and comes with both CE and UKCA markings.
With a lifespan of 10 years, it provides peace of mind that you won’t need to replace the alarm for a long time. The manufacturer states it is only for home use. It cannot be used for travel, in a motor home or boat.
One of the great features of this carbon monoxide alarm is its digital display.
The LCD screen allows you to quickly see the CO level and easily check that the device is functioning correctly.
It does have a test button.
It has a clever safety feature, which I have not seen in other Carbon Monoxide alarms, in that if the alarm has been triggered, it will leave a warning indicator, which is useful if the alarm was triggered whilst away from home. This certainly adds to the safety capability of this product. Especially in intermittent fault.
LED status indicator light shows green, amber or red to indicate fault, power or alarm.
It also has a QR scan code at the back and I was able to download the manual (it was a little hard, as the surface was not flat)
The light indicator also helps to identify which device has triggered the alarm, making it easier to locate the source of the carbon monoxide. This is particularly useful when there are other alarms in the home.
It is essential to note that this device detects carbon monoxide gas, which is odourless, and not other gases such as cooking gas.
The inclusion of AA batteries is a great convenience, but it is crucial to remember to check them periodically. If the batteries are not changed, they can corrode over time, so it is essential to ensure that the device is always powered and ready to detect carbon monoxide. However, it would have been even better if the product had a 10-year battery.
The battery back panel is very clever, in that it can be used as a template for fitting screws. It makes life so much easier. I only wish other manufacturers did the same.
Overall, the UltraFire UBCO1D Carbon Monoxide Alarm is a great product that offers a great level of protection against carbon monoxide.
It does have small crevices which may allow small insects to enter. In a kitchen environment, it may let in dirt and grease.
I recommend this product to anyone looking for a carbon monoxide alarm.
You receive a smart looking very well made Carbon monoxide CO2 detector.
Has a very solid feel to it, much better than I thought it would be.
Easy to install, you can fix it to the wall with two screws (included), I’ve used some extra strong tape adhesive to fix mine.
Display is basic, but you don’t need to know much, the alarm is ear piecing, loud and horrid, just what an alarm should be.
A great product, I’m pleased to have that extra protection.
What a great security device. It comes with batteries inserted and just need to remove the protective film to switch it on. The reading then alternates between the room temperature and CO level. An alarm will be strident when a threshold is reached and I do not never to hear it! Design wise it is classic. Also comes with screws if you want to hang it on the wall and a very useful guide with a lot of information. Great produc
This Ultrafire Carbon Monoxide Detector comes with 2 pre-installed AA cells, wall mounting hardware and a clear user guide – it’s important to read the guide especially in relation to how to position the alarm. This looks and feels like a well made product, plus it has certification to the relevant BS standards for a domestic alarm. and also carries the UKCA mark.
The unit looks attractive and features an LCD display of the temperature in Celsius plus a test button and LEDs for “fault”, “power” and “test”. Subject to correct positioning, you can wall mount the unit or use it on its integral stand. The alarm is loud enough to be heard over a TV or radio. One point to note is even though the batteries are replaceable the maximum life of the unit is 10 years which is consistent with similar models.
I recently ordered the UltraFire UBCO1D Carbon Monoxide Alarm and I have to say I’m impressed with its functionality. The batteries were included, which was a plus, although they are already showing low battery, which is a little concerning. I appreciate that it has a digital display that not only shows the CO levels but also the temperature of the room. It’s an essential item to have in any home to ensure protection against carbon monoxide poisoning.
Overall, I’m happy with this product and would recommend it to others. The only reason I deducted one star is due to the low battery indication despite the batteries being included.
I used this to replace my existing one which had reached the end of its life, I would have liked a label on this one where I could write the install date as it is so difficult to keep track of years, my last one had a 7 year life and this one 10 years.
Batteries are included and on moving the strip to allow the batteries to power up the detector it does a countdown while self checking.
It is certainly loud and would wake anyone up together with warnings if the battery is getting low, the display shows the level of CO in ppm under 20 shows as 0. If the alarm goes off I am not sure if I am going to hang about to read how much CO there is.
I was surprised that no country of origin was shown, usually these detectors are made in China. There is a very comprehensive manual included which is written in good English so you don’t have to puzzle over a translation from the Chinese.
It claims to be Certified to BS EN 50291-1: 2018 (domestic use) which is the correct standard but it does not say who certified it, I would have been more confident had it the mark of a UK test authority such as the BSI Kite mark or one of the other UK bodies.
A well made device that can either be free standing or wall mounting, screws and plugs are supplied.
I’ve never seen or used a CO alarm with a digital display before. It doesn’t cost much more than the ordinary version but, to be honest, I don’t think it’s something that is necessary in most cases. I place an alarm down – this can be used free standing, which is good news – and then I hope to never hear from it or notice it again until I test it or the batteries need changing. If the alarm goes off, I’m calling a gas fitter regardless of what the display says.
You can test this by pressing a button, but that will only confirm that the alarm works and it doesn’t mean that the sensor works. It has a ten year lifespan though, so I’m confident.
Along with the display which would tell you how much CO is present, there is an alternating temperature display. I don’t know how accurate that is but it “feels about right”.
If you own gas appliances and you don’t own one of these I would buy one now. Speaking as someone who unknowingly lived in a house with a faulty chimney, and who was being slowly poisoned, I wish I’d had the sense to get one before I did instead of waiting and wondering why I was always falling asleep during the day.
It is so important to have a carbon monoxide detector in your house, and what attracted me most with this one was the digital display, making it easy to tell if there is any sort of carbon monoxide leak.
The instructions are detailed and easy to follow, also giving you information about carbon monoxide. It comes fitted with batteries so it can be used straight away.
It makes a loud sound when it is tested so you know that it would definitely alert you in the event of a leak. I also like the fact that it has a built in thermometer so it is multi-purpose!
