Having been someone that had previously used umpteen firelighters with screwed up newspapers, it was a nice change to be able to light these Weber briquettes with just a couple of natural-based firelighters, and within a short period of time. I’m not the best barbecuer by any stretch, my bbq food usually tastes of the local magazine plus lighter fuel, but I had no complaints & everybody loved the taste of the food. Whoop!
I’m always trying to find great charcoal, whether that’s briquettes or lumpwood.
I always find myself coming back to Weber. Is there better prices out there on other products? Maybe. Are they better quality? Not likely.
Weber claims these burn for 3 hours, I think that’s a stretch to be honest, even with good vent control on a Kettle grill. They’ll certainly go for 1-2 hours but 3, doubtful.
They’re quick to light, they also seem to hold good integrity if you want to re-use them after an initial cook if you’ve got some left over. I wouldn’t say they add flavour but I haven’t noticed anything artificial about them.
The actual shape and quantity provided are definitely uniform across bags. You always get consistently sized pieces with very little damage to the bag.
Overall, good charcoal to get you through the seasons, just wish the price was a little lower as I tend to go through it!
Get what you pay for. These original weber ones are far superior to supermarket or petrol station brands. Ignition is easy using the Weber Chimney (best accessory ever!). Constant heat and long burn time of 3 hours
I’ve tried lots of different charcoal and Webber is my favourite. I’m on a Webber BBQ and I find they last the longest and are easy to control for a slow burn or a short and fast. I’ve done an all day brisket low and slow using these – 12 hours lid on – and used in the vortex and gets to 275c. So very versatile.
You can also close the BBQ off when finished and use them again in your next BBQ.
These are good briquettes for an everyday barbecue.
They light quickly (in my Rapidfire chimney starter) and burn evenly for plenty long enough, producing very little smoke and no sparks once lit.
For the times you neither want or need good quality lumpwood charcoal these briquettes are ideal and in my experience give far better results than cheaper supermarket lumpwood charcoals.
I’ve just got a barbeque, and I purchased cheapy charcoal from Morrisons that seemed to only last an hour. These go on for at least 2 hours and create a lot less mess. I’d definitely recommend!!
Bought this on line as too hot to drive somewhere, normally nearest garage to get whatever they have. Not only delivered to my door but what a fabulous product if you can describe briquettes as such.
First well sealed in tough plastic air tight bag so no bits dropping out of torn or holed paper bag. Briquettes are solid and uniform with no broken bits which you normally can’t use or throw away so minimal wastage.
Second, they light easily and are ready to cook on in 15-20 minutes, burn with uniform heat and last several hours unlike cheaper ones.
I’m now a convert and thoroughly recommend.
After buying a ‘proper’ BBQ and rotisserie from Weber, it’s apparent that any old briquettes from down the petrol station just aren’t going to be good enough. This became more apparent when I was trying to cook for more guests as well as long cooks with the rotisserie.
Sure these are more expensive but when your trying to cook large joints of meat on the rotisserie you don’t want to be lifting the lid and messing around adding more briquettes to maintain the temperature. I find the usual brands of briquettes are fine for those 1.5hr cooks but they always die down quite quickly.
There is another brand I use which lasts slightly longer than these but based on price per KG these are a decent buy when cooking more than burgers and sausages!
What can I say? These are the best briquettes I have ever used. They last so much longer than all the others I’ve tried. If they weren’t so expensive these would be the only ones I’d use.
Give em a go you won’t be disappointed.
Good quality briquettes. Used three times until now and can easily say this is the best coal I have ever cooked with. Less smoke means cleaner vision of what I have on the grill 🙂
I always use these in my bbq on my weber actually, they have a long burn and used with a charcoal lighter i leave until glowing red before tranfering to the bbq … warning these are hot and obviously use hand protection when tipping into bbq .
I just find them perfect for my needs and cannot fault them
These burn well for hours! Being a novice at anything more than burgers and sausages, I wanted a go at something a little more adventurous so cooked a roast chicken in my kettle bbq. I bought these briquettes on recommendation and they did the job perfectly and went on to stay hot enough to continue with the burgers and sausages etc long after the chicken was cooked.
My only criticism is the cost but in my opinion, it’s about par for the course for branded briquettes
These are brilliant briquettes, they burn perfectly and are definitely worth the extra price in my opinion.
i use them with the starter tower and they come to full heat in about 15 minutes, and afterwards if you just replace the cover and close the vents they burn out and you can actually use some of the unspent ones again believe it or not.
This is by far the best product I’ve used for a bbq. It’s especially great if you’re cooking for a lot of people or you want to cook slow and low. These briquettes seem to burn forever giving you a really long cook time. So easy to light and quick to heat up. Perhaps not the most cost effective if only cooking for 2 as you probably wouldn’t need such a long cooking period.
Since I first used this I haven’t looked back. Stocked up on it for those spur of the moment get togethers.
I’ve never used this type of coal before, I usually use lumper wood like KP, and I got this on a special offer and though to try it out, I was impressed by the packaging, it’s heavy duty bag with a seal to close perfect if you want to leave it outdoor, it doesn’t take long to light up, it burns very well, it doesn’t have any smell like wood does which is for me is a let down, but I would buy again and I would mix it with lumper wood coal.
Worth every penny!
Purchased these during lockdown as couldn’t get any apart from these delivered as I needed during lockdown. One good thing I’ve discovered at this crazy time!
These bad boys burn well, last longer and do provide a nice flavour for your bbq.
Never again will I be buying cheap charcoal.
I find that I don’t need to use as much of these as I would previously with other brands due to the amount of heat these give off, and how long they burn for.
If you are a bbq fan and like you meat to taste nice, these will enhance you bbq experience.
They come in an easy to carry resealable bag which keeps things clean, dry and tidy which is a great idea. They light really easily with normal firelighters and take about 30 mins to be ready to use and stay hot for ages. The ash doesn’t blow all over like other types do and the briquettes are simple to arrange evenly. I’ve had a few family bbq’s and still got some left to use. I used to dread using the old bbq charcoal/coals but not anymore – these are a doddle to use. Definitely not going to use anything else now and going to order more of these.
I have been buying Weber Briquettes for years. They may appear to be more expensive than other briquettes but they burn well, and don’t make the food taste like chemicals, or just smoked rather than BBQd.
I think they are good value for money – with the 8kg bah is better value for money tan the 4kg – as the briquettes burn we’ll we don’t have to throw extra on to get the heat needed for family BBQ, so the bag tends to last longer than other brands.
The briquettes are ready to use after about 20mins, burn slowly and for quite a long time – we often roast a chicken on the BBQ using these and it tastes amazing !
felt slightly “over the top” buying these, but they actually work perfectly, are almost completely ashless, and last a really long time; starting is 20mins in a chimney starter; and they burn around 3-5 hours in a smoker (ie slower burn); the big packs are not that much more expensive than what you get in DIY shops, and having gotten a bad batch of no name stuff before (slow start, not as hot, not as durable) I simpy didn’t fancy fiddling with it to run a 6-8 hour smoking day; if all you do is a 1h standard grilling session then mabe this stuff is unnecessary but for long smoking these are great and “fire and forget”
I have found these to be a first class product both for consistency of heat whilst cooking and flavour imparted to the food. I use a ‘kettle’ style BBQ in which they smoke the food very evenly. To my mind they are well worth the extra cost for their reliability and ease of use. Allow a good 30 to 40 minutes at least for them to reach cooking temperature and you are set for the next couple of hours. Highly recommended.
These briquettes burn well, give heat for a long time, and leave very little ash. The bag is sturdy enough to leave outside in bad weather (as long as the seal on the bag is closed). I used a chimney lighter to get these going along with the Weber lighter bricks. Saved the day when there was a rush on charcoal for the first hot weekend of the year. Will be buying again!
These wear briquettes are stand out teh best on teh market. I use them in a smoker which burns sometimes for 12 hours. I have used other branded products, not necessarily cheaper but they are never as good as Weber in 2 critical areas. NO1 lighting. The Weber briquettes light well and you can get a good hot chimney going in 15 minutes. No2 longevity of burn. No other briquette I have used burns as long and as consistently (temperature) as Weber briquettes.. It is for this reason i will never buy another brand
I dont know whether the price of these reflects the current covid 19 situation ( we’re self isolating so had to buy online and struggled to find anywhere selling BBQ coals) or if they are usually so expensive.
Normally I would not have paid so much for one bags worth of BBQ briquettes and certainly wont again if they continue at this price.
Having said that they are really very good and produced a great heat for cooking for a long time.
I’ve used so many briquettes over the years, all kinds, all brands. I don’t know why on earth I never bought these before. Maybe the price. I guess I hated having to spend more on something that was just going to burn…but boy was I wrong!
These briquettes light very quickly, are incredibly hot and last AGES. These are the real deal. Unfortunately it’s hard to find the Kingsford ones here in the UK, but these Weber ones do a great job – even better I than Kingsford I think. And yes, they do cost more than petrol-station briquettes, but you get what you pay for!
