Taking a little time to sharpen the blade and setting the tool up correctly makes the spokeshave a pleasure to use. My blade was installed the wrong way round so removing it to put a sharper edge on it helped. Using a sharpening stone is a must and can be used to keep your chisels in good order too. The instructions supplied don’t help, but there’s plenty of good advice on YouTube. Quality and price are a good match for something that will only be used now and again.
Bought this one because all the others I looked at, even the Stanley, had appalling feedback. This one at least had okay feedback. I bought the amazon warehouse reduced one to make it even cheaper, was still amazon prime so got my free delivery. So, seems okay, nothing wobbly, bent or falling off. Will do what every one says and strip the paint off, and sharpen the blade on an oil stone. Will update feedback after use.
The spokeshave itself is perfectly fine, it’s comfortable to hold, easy to use, easy to set up and adjust. The blades are something of a disappointment. They don’t take an edge very well and the little cut out slots at the top for the adjustment screws are just too big and the blade waggles around.
I’ve used the tool with a Stanley spokeshave blade in it and the difference is significant.
This has become one of the most handiest little tools I’ve ever bought and wish I had stumbled across this sooner

Build quality is good enough for home use, i have not changed the blade so unsure whether or not it will remain as sturdy once the initial settings are altered, all in all a worth while purchase
Purchased this to shave the edge of my timber door. Carpenter by trade, but semi retired now. Did a great job, saved taking door off and shooting in.
