Bought this for mother in law to write her novel.

    She absolutely loves it.
Previously she was sold a cheap Windows machine which is 100% not fit for purpose. They really should not be allowed to sell stuff that rubish. It really doesnt do the reputation of good brand any good at all.

This thing whizzez along and is much for familiar for people who have gotten used to phones over the last few years…… Loads less hassle than Windows.

I bought this for my wife and she loves it. Easy to set up and use. Good quality screen and reasonable sound (sound is much better if you use headphones.

After tens of hours of research into the compact chromebook market, I landed on the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 as a potential winner due to its unique combination of specs and the unique 4:3 screen. Happy to say that it did not disappoint. Extremely quiet, super fast and with a great battery life, this Chromebook is everything you would want from a mid range model.

When I first opened it, I had difficulty turning it on. But I did my research and figured it out. It works perfect since my only concern is the sound when watching movies. But I connect it to the speaker so it’s fine and the battery is very long which I love, and the fact that it’s touchscreen, and it has backflip keyboard, it’s pretty amazing, I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good overall

I love my Acer Spin 513 powered by the MediaTek Kompanio 1380 processor! The device is super fast, thin and light, fan-less, runs cool and the battery lasts over 10 hours! And, did I say, the screen is simply gorgeous! Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersPerfect for what I wanted it for – light use, portable, good battery life, fast processor, touch screen, angled into tablet mode. It’s the 4th Chromebook I’ve had and very pleased with it. I use a Windows laptop for heavier use but this Chromebook is perfect for many uses.

What I was looking for: a chromebook with an expiry date long enough. I had a USB-C charger from another Chromebook that I am using for this model, as the lead included with this one needs a connection to the electric plug on the wall. Flips and touch screen very easy to use. I have a mouse + keyboard that I plug in, to give it a more “desktop” feel. My son says the screen is quite “squarry”. Suits me well.

I got this used at just over 320, with RRP at time of writing 499 (Aug 23). The used Chromebook has absolutely no signs of use, so a complete bargain at that price.

As for the device, it’s a bit laggy when my son is playing Roblox, but for all the stuff I want (mainly web browsing and email) it’s just fine and in the real world, no slower than my desktop at these tasks. The lightweight processor means good battery life for undemanding tasks and that screen is really good. It’s bright, tall for scrolling web pages and the touch function is nice allowing tablet use. The backlit keyboard and 360 ability means a top sofa-surfing experience. As other have said the speakers and camera are budget, but that’s the balance…

Would I recommend? Yes, but be aware that this is a media consumption device. If you’re going to get ambitious with use, then look to a better processor.

Lets deal with the Audio first – it is totally crap! Really dreadful, caused by badly placed speakers that are muted by either the desktop or the lap in use!

I will also mention that the camera is of such a low quality resolution that it feels like it is something out of the early 1990s.

So if you want to use this for Zoom/Meet type calls I’d seriously look elsewhere. This isn’t for you.

However – it really is a fabulous Chromebook, which for the price offers a great mix of display quality with system performance and capacity. Plus the flexibility of the device for use as a typical Laptop or a Tablet is superb and very handy, particularly on the move (trains, planes and automobiles). Fast! Did i mention that it is fast, very fast indeed. Everything happens in a moment. Coupled with a good Internet speed (my home 5G Broadband is above 400Mbps) it whizzes along as fast as any of the bigger personal and work machines I use routinely.

I have always liked Chromebooks, although finding them a bit meh! in terms of capability. But ChromeOS is coming on leaps and bounds such that its usefulness has already met that of a typical Laptop (Windows or MacOS), most particularly in its “Office” apps, but then more even.

On balance this Chromebook offers great performance and flexibility that is well worth the spend. But do beware of my opening warnings. Particularly the Camera which you really cannot do much about without adding a separate Webcam device!

I wamted a fanless chromebook with at least 8GB RAM and good enough CPU performance for daily browsing and simple office tasks and a backlit keyboard. This laptop spec checked every box and more including metal body construction at a reasonable price.

However, poor quality control fails it – I suspect some are Google’s Chrome OS bugs. I have had two units one had unresponsive touchpad which was completely unusable. I also kept having issues (green screen) with external monitors. It also sometimes refuses to boot up unitl doing the hardware reset (refres+ back button + power button combo).

All thise issues made it very difficult to love this Chromebook which should have been perfect.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersNormally go for the cheap & nasty Chromebook but after a couple went faulty I decided to splash out. The extra money for the extra memory & processor speed is very noticeable. Graphics way better than the el cheapo ones. Touch screen if needed & you can have it in dual mode to use as pure touch screen with no keyboard if needed (use it like a TV etc)

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis is my first Chromebook and I’m nicely impressed, having come from the world of Apple.

Pros: it’s fast, versatile, nice colour metal exterior, touchscreen is decent, lightweight but sturdy feeling, useful offering of ports, screen quality is pretty sharp, 3:2 screen ratio is GREAT – feels like a much bigger screen to look at than the 16:9 versions whilst still being compact.

Cons: keyboard and trackpad let it down being a bit rattly, Microsoft office is best used through the browser instead of an app version, battery is decent enough but nowhere near what it claims.

Good bit of kit for being on the go, little hint: go for a 14inch laptop case, the ratio of the screen makes 13.3inch cases too tight. Overall I’m very happy with the purchase.

Been in use since it arrived, works a treat and I can use it all day and only use half the battery power. Still getting used to some functionality. Overall a good buy for what I wanted it for.
