I’m under the 100kg rating and made sure everything was very tight before using, the chin bar works perfect and gives good clearance from frame so your hands do not rub on door or frame, will have to wait and see how long the grips las
Fits standard 2ft 6 doors and Im sure would fit 2ft 9.
Takes my weight at 16st no problem, flexes a little but I’d be amazed if any bar of this type didn’t.
Recommend.
Been using it for a couple of months and I noticed it started bending a bit. I’m surprised as I’m not a big guy. Other than that it does the job great. The foam pads are really durable and is perfect for assisted pull ups.
My only two issues with this; The foam on the sides that push against the inside of the door frames has partially come off and stuck to the door, while simultaneously removing some of the paint. The other issue, it’s not super sturdy, i.e it moves from left to right where it is attached to the crossbar (part with the logo)
Other than that, it is solid when it’s on the door and definitely has the capacity to lift a large weight – i am 83kg and it doesn’t bow under my weight at all. Does the job and doesn’t cost too much.
Got a ‘used’ one from Amazon, stating just that the box was damaged. It arrived with one of the bolts missing which was problematic as it comes with no spares, which seems like a bit of an oversight from the manufacturer. Amazon directed me to contact Adidas, who then told me to contact Amazon. They offered a return and refund, but I bought it discounted and didn’t want to so I was offered a partial refund- so it worked out an absolute bargain for me. I had a suspicion that if I did return it, I would just be putting someone in the same position I was in anyway. Got a spare bolt from elsewhere which works fine alongside the others.
As for the product itself, it feels surprisingly sturdy. Spent a while looking at different products as I can’t drill anything and wanted something I could remove quickly when I wanted to. Most people complaining just can’t have measured their doors properly as I compared the recommended measurements with my frame and it fits as expected, even though my frame width was on the smaller side. Still can’t do a pull-up but from hanging on it, it seems strong to hold my 76kg or so weight. Just don’t be moving erratically enough to knock it off your frame (though this would be difficult to achieve) and I don’t see any reason it would be risky!
I bought this to replace a cheaper, more basic pull-up bar.
For starters, this was very easy to assemble. I bought it ‘used – like new’ and it arrived with everything packaged in the box, with all tools and fittings. It had previously been assembled but was otherwise in good condition.
The bar has three separate grips for pull-ups, a close chin-up grip, parallel hammer grips, and an angled wide-grip. Each grip has nice soft foam padding, approx 1.5-2″ in diameter.
The lever-style design of this bar means the grips are around 8″ from the door frame, and are raised up to the height of the top of the door frame, increasing clearance from the ground and making dead-hang pull-ups viable even if you are tall (I’m 6′ 3″ and it works for me, I just have to bend my knees behind or use a bent-knee L-sit position).
The wide grip is also far enough away from the door frame that you can do pull-ups without your elbows hitting the frame – a problem I had with my previous bar.
All around, this is great quality for a great price and is very useful for training pull-ups at home.
Would you like to keep fit, even if you’ve no time enough to frequent a gym?
Do you work a lot, sonot allowed to do sports during the week?
Are you seeking something simple to use?
Behold the remedy, guys: this piece of equipment, which I purchased during the lockdown (imposed by Government decree, due to the breakout of Covid pandemics), is the one for you.
Because of the widespread of Covid, going to the gym was impossible (or even better taboo), so I had no choice but to train at home: I work as a personal trainer, therefore it’s a must for me to keep up with practice, also because many clients of mine continued to attend my courses or classes remotely and in my house.
Previously I purchased: resistance bands, an adjustable bench and dumbbells; however, I found quite difficult to do the same exercises as I would do at the gym. The weight of my dumbbells didn’t go over 20 kg, therefore even with many strategies and technics was materially impossible, with such a low weight, to keep the muscles up properly. I remained astonished to find on Amazon an Adidas product at a very low price, during the first lockdown, so for this reason, I didn’t minimally hesitate to buy it. The product is easy to assemble and easily adaptable to the skirting board of my door(This tool is made purposely for this kind of flush skirting board – which is part of the wall, able to bear your whole weight). I could finally train my back in a huge variety of positions: neutral grip, pulling up and reverse; also If you place it on the floor, it could be useful for push up and dips. The only inconvenience can be identified in the sponge covering – which helps the product to stick to the wall – got broken after dozen of uses; nevertheless, this doesn’t prevent you to use the product in question.
In my opinion, I would have chosen a different fabric, made of a more resistant material, by the way, I’m overall satisfied with this product: despite the above-mentioned inconvenience, I have had it for more than two years.
I strongly recommend purchasing it for customers intentioned to spend little and use a high-quality tool fro their workouts.
Out of 3 door frames downstairs, was able to fit it only to one. Will not fit all door frames. Check the measurements carefully.
Easy to assemble and fit. Bought it for my 8 years old and was hesitant to use it as I am 83kilos. Finally tried it and its very sturdy.
Assembling was easy, straight forward, very reasonable price and it felt strong too. The problem I had was my door frame’s width was too big and this didn’t fit. Seller accepted the return and full refund processed. It’s a shame I was unable to use such a nice produc
The adidas pull up bar metal structure is well made and sturdy. Far superior than my previous one. However, it a massive shame the adidas pull up bar use cheap foam on the handle.
Please note, depending on your doorframe you cannot set the pull up bar above the door like advertised and may have to adjust the height to fit on the doorframe.
This indoor pull up bar is probably the best one on the market , sturdy alot of variations for pull ups , the only problem it doesn’t fit in every door , my door is too thick so I couldn’t fit it, make sure you do the proper measurements before buying
I mean, it’s definitely great value and it’s one of the best exercises you can do at home (on a budget). The extra handles help with the variety of exercises, but it doesn’t feel very sturdy at times. Some of the screws don’t exactly do a good job. Would still recommend though.
Bear in mind you cannot close the door with this in it’s position. You have to hang it every time you want to use it, but that’s very simple, just like hanging a hook. 5 months in use now the soft rubber handles and protectors tore down quickly, but were easy to fix. The metallic framework is very sturdy at least for a 75kg boy using it every day. Not major damage to the door frame though some wear marks are apparent.
There are many doorway pullup bars our there, but I held out for this one. The mains reasons were the three different hand positions available, and that it places the bar much higher than most do, which is great for taller people like me. These aspects are good features.
The door gym comes in pieces but is very easy to assemble, despite what some reviewers claim. (I honestly wonder how on Earth anyone can find screwing a few bars together difficult, with or without instructions.)
However, after assembly I realised there was a problem. The doorway measurements provided in the product description here on Amazon are totally wrong. The doorway I intended to use literally fits the provided measurements exactly… 2cm architrave, 15cm inner thickness, 86cm overall width. However, the door gym didn’t even come close to fitting because 15cm is much, much too thick. I could just about get it hooked over the top of the door frame, but it left the gym at a crazy (and probably very unsafe) angle.
Thankfully, I have a couple of different door frame variations in my flat, and it fit one of the others perfectly. The inner thickness of that frame? 12cm! That’s 3cm smaller than claimed in the official information. Not good, so please be aware of this before making a purchase!
Once properly installed it does the job pretty well. Obviously it’s made of steel tubes, not solid bars, so they do flex as they take your weight. But that’s perfectly normal. I weigh around 80kg which is well under the stated maximum, and once hanging the bar felt stable and in no danger of moving.
The final thing I think is worth mentioning is that unless your door frames are made of solid metal, this door gym will very likely leave some marks. It’s a metal bar with a little padding, pressing down on much softer wood with the weight of a human being who is moving around, so it’s hardly surprising. I think expecting any doorway pullup bar to leave things completely unmarked is pretty unrealistic. However, it’s nothing that a little paint and perhaps some filler can’t fix, so no big deal.
Overall I like the adidas door gym and I think it’s worth the price, but I have deducted a star for the incorrect information regarding doorway measurements.
Bought one of these from Argos before the 1st Lockdown but didn’t fit our door way as our doors are bigger then the average size so had to take it back… The i noticed this just before Christmas however it was sold out so i added it to my list hoping it would someday be available and just last week i noticed it back in stock and bought straight away.
Its very easy to assemble and fits my door way perfectly… one very happy customer 10/10 all round
Took me about 40 mins to put together, felt it wouldn’t fit at first but was being a donut and had it facing the wrong way in the door frame. Did 3 sets of 8 reps on it and felt stable! Would recommend for the price, can’t go wrong and Adidas brand is a nice touch.
Very well designed equipment. Major problem is stress distribution which is easy to solve by connecting rods with wire and tape. Whole thing stops bending at least. Simple piece of aluminium would do. Otherwise fantastic for pushups as well. I’m 190cm and 94kg and it’s strong enough.
Easy to put together but both the cross brace and pull up section bar come in two pieces and bolt together allowing quite a bit of flex, having said that feels safe when in use. Plenty of options for use as a pull up bar as well as being suitable for attaching a trx strap and resistance bands to.
The biggest issue is the foam padding which doesnt provide any protection to the door frame, leaving marks and even denting the frame at the contact points. The tubing is the same diameter as my old car bike rack and have replaced the foam on the pull up bar with the supports from the bike rack (see photos) and then wrapped them in thick foam.
The door frame is now protected at all contact points and I can use it with the knowledge that the door frame isnt going to be damaged in any way.
Great that it doesnt have any permanent fixings so can just be taken down and stored when not in use and has now become a staple in my home exercise kit.
Skeptical at first to how this can actually work without snapping my door frame in half. It’s actually quite clever how it’s designed. It uses back, front and down forces, but they all synchronise together to create a tough firm hold without putting to much pressure on one location ie the wall or door frame.
Bars are metal but the back board that sits above the frame is hollow plastic. Not sure why it isn’t metal. Plastic over time will start to crack and fall apart. Make sure you don’t over tighten the bolts on this plastic.
It apparently can hold just over 17 stone of weight. I’m 12 stone and I do cringe a little with my weight on it because it does creak a bit, let alone 17 stone.
The sponge protectors are far to soft & thin and will shred in no time like other people have mentioned. I’m planning on buying think rubber tubbing and strips. At the end of the day it will leave rubber marks on the wall and door frame but this can easily be rubbed down and painted if need be. Better than having metal rubbing on your wood frames and plastic rubbing on your wall. SJD
At first I was a bit annoyed that the bars came with little scratches in numerous places. Made me think it’s been assembled before and returned so I wasn’t very happy. After assembling it though it was very sturdy and does the job perfectly. I’ve padded the bar that goes against the door frame with towels just to ensure it doesn’t damage the door and I’ve had no issues after 4 uses. Feels stable too so I’m not at all worried about it falling while I’m using it.
Overall I’m really happy and think it’s excellent for the price (about 23 when I bought it). I had been looking at numerous others for 50-60 but I’m so glad I got this one in the end. Does everything I need it to do. Also I love the different angles/directions of the bars to do the pull ups on as it gives you even more variety in the exercises you can do (something I didn’t realise was important before buying it).
Would definitely recommend for someone like myself looking to buy their first pull up bar!
As has been mentioned by many other reviewers, the padding on the bars that brace against the frame is not thick enough to support the load applied at that point. You can wrap them in pipe insulation to mitigate this issue, remembering that even this will need periodic replacement as it will also give up in due course.
There’s a mild manufacturing inconsistency where most of the bolts are recessed but one isn’t, this doesn’t apparently affect the overall performance in the least.
Otherwise it’s a really good product. The adjustable height means it can be mounted above head height on a standard doorframe so you can leave it up and not have to duck every time you go through. It handles my not inconsiderable weight without any issues (apart from the above mentioned thin foam).
Pull up bar is really well made and great value for money easily as good as other door gyms I’ve used that cost three times as much. Only down side is if the foam doesn’t line up with your door frame exactly it will mark and dent you door frame.
I agree with other reviews, product is fantastic, very sturdy and feels solid. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that the foam where the bar presses against the door frame has worn away after one day of consistent use and has marked the paint. I will have to put some sort of rubber padding around it. Would happily recommend though.
Use your own long handled screw driver guys, not the ones provided. in fact one of the shortest screws kept swivelling in the hole even with the washers on, and it still didn’t fully tighten.
Also the curved bars that hooks beneath the top of the door are noticeably different lengths. We are going to attach metal plates to either side of the door post as it is when used the apparatus is digging into the paint work. The pads aren’t that good. You can move then by sliding them inwards to fit your door though.
My son likes it, so that’s the main thing.
Really good at this time when I can’t go out to workout. Easy to put together, everything you need is in the box, took less than 10 mins. Easily takes my weight, 85+kg. I like that it’s got different grips, wide, narrow or parallel grips. It extends out from the door so you can do a pull pull up without the door frame getting in the way.
As you can see I have a glass window above the door, and it’s fine. The door frame is solid though, the weight from me hanging on it can take it. I tried it on a different door, where the frame was attached seperately from the main door frame and that would have snapped off eventually, so pick a solid door frame!
Other people have mentioned it making a dent or marks on the door. This is true, after a few sets I did get an indent in the frame. To combat this I placed a small cloth under each end where the bar can come in contact, this stopped the problem and makes no difference to the function.
For the price you can’t get better in my opinion. Also it said it was out of stock when I ordered it, and delivery in 1 month, so I bought it anyway. It turned up less than a week later!
It is fairly simple to put together. Be careful of your door frame dimensions. mine is slightly too thick. I can make it work, but the entire thing sits at a bit of an angle, and the pad that goes against the wall does not sit flat. This is my fault, as I knew it was thicker that the spec, but I could make it work. it is a shame the dimensions are so limiting, as it could easily be engineered to support thicker walls.
The only real down side is foam pads are rubbish. The one that bears against the door frame is pointless. It just fell apart after 5 chin-ups, and the round metal bar then starts to dig into the wood architrave. It is completely inappropriate choice of material for it’s task. some sort of rotating flat pad would be better. I will make one. The hand pads, I can feel are not going to last long. I intend to replace them with tennis racket handle tape as they fall apart.
All in all it is good value for Money, as it is dirt cheap. Personally, I would rather pay slightly more, and not have to do my own modifications to make it better. With a better choice of materials this could have easily been 5 stars
Great for doors without much space on either side. The protective foam pads meant to protect the jamb of the door break down quite quickly and there’s a minor bit of flex to it with full body weight on it but it’s sturdy enough and great for the price. I’ve replaced the foam pads with packaging foam which is much sturdier and protective of the jambs.
The Adidas Door Gym is excellent. Far superior to my previous chin up product the Powerbar which tore a hole through the wall surrounding my door frame. This chin up bar also benefits from handles that are higher than the upper door frame itself. For the average person I suppose it doesn’t make much difference but for a short arse like me, it means I’m genuinely hanging my full weight off the ground without having to bend at my knees too much. The long plastic bar that runs along the top of the door frame acts as a counter to your body weight. Since it is a long bar, there’s nothing to dig into the wall unlike the Powerbar. Obviously the downside is that the whole thing doesn’t fold up like the Powerbar did but tbh it wasn’t a deal breaker. The frame also has lots of soft squishy foam protecting it against any contact against door frames.
I also like how there are multiple gripping options: narrow, wide, neutral.
There is a bit of time needed for initial assembly but it all seems very solid and sturdy so far.
