Troubleshoot common problems

Where’s the OBDII interface?

The OBD2 port is often under the dash, or under a panel below the handbrake in the center console.

How to get started?

Simply plug into the OBD II port on your car and turn ignition on and it will run

Why I can’t erase the fault code?

The problem causing the error code must be repaired first then code can disappear.

Code Definition Built-in OBD-II DTC lookup library Shows the code and what the code means directly, don’t need to search online After the code was found, it’ll show the definition directly by clicking the error code you selected

Just plug it in, turn the key to power stuff on and press ok on the device. Will give you a list of any fault codes with a description of what they are. Allows fault codes to be cleared as well which is handy.

Easy to use. I just plugged it in and read the error code. Then I could clear it. My mazda dealer wanted 180 to do the same thing. I have an intermittent sensor problem that puts the car in ‘go slow’ mode. This reader allows me to reset that. I will have to replace the sensor of course but in my own time

Wanted a cheap scanning tool as a guide, read previous reviews and opted for this one.
It initially took at least 6 attempts to fire up, I don’t know whether the obd2 plug in my vehicle is worn, or if there is a fitment / alignment issue with this device nevertheless when it did fire up it was quite easy to use. Screen graphics are a bit primitive but the information seems to be quite accurate and easy to understand.
It also cleared the faults with ease (glow plugs error in my instance) and MIL light stayed off.
Overall quite happy for the price.

Reasonably priced, easy to use and clear display. Plastic connecting plug should be more precisely made as required a lot of juggling and holding into the socket to give reading.

Ordered this to check faults on my car and many of my friends, works as intended. Allows you to read codes, view live data of the engine when running and delete codes, don’t expect more than that as this is a basic reader for people who want to check their codes themselves.

Used on 2015 VW Tiguan that was displaying a warning light,
Plugged in and within few seconds displayed the fault code with description, and it also cleared the warning light,
Easy peasy and at a price much cheaper than visiting garage – clearly this is probably a basic device given the price but did the job I needed it too. And has already paid for itself.

Used on a vw polo 2012 to clear a code that kept popping up. Worked and cleared the code. Not used it for anything other than that but would rather pay 20 for this than triple for the garage to do the same thing.

Engine light came up on wifes car. Garage told me it was 60 to have it plugged in but it was over a weeks wait as they were busy. Purchased this scanner and it gave me a fault code. After checking Google found out it was a split pipe. Job done

I have given this 5 stars simply because it has picked up every fault I’ve needed it to, including codes from a while back when I changed the timing belt, I know my car has a bad injector connection and when it started playing up again it told me the exact one in clear form as well as the code. ‘ circuit, injector #3’ . can’t vouch for it long term or for every problem but has already saved me at least the amount to have issues diagnosed professionally and hasn’t let me down. As far as the other functions I haven’t really used them but well worth the money just for the diagnostic tool alone.

I misplaced my old code reader so didn’t want to spend a lot as it will turn up. My 03 Focus warning light was on. The reader diagnosed the fault I was 99% sure what it was anyway. it also turned off the warning light.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI had a couple of warning messages come up on my 2006 V8 Vantage (clang, sorry…) that don’t really tell you much but indicated that even driving it to a garage might not be a great idea.

I therefore bought this code reader, and as per the instructions plugged it in to the OBD port and turned on the ignition – and immediately all the detailed messages and codes were returned, which I could then relay to a specialist who was able to advise a course of action and who was also therefore able to identify the most likely component culprit.

Excellent, recommended, this could potentially save you a chunk of cash by taking the time and guesswork out of identifying issues.

Wow, what value for money, I took my Saab 9-3 to an mot garage and was told my car needed a clutch and dual mass fly wheel. I reluctantly got the work done, I thought it was something else. Car is still same as before. Bought this OBD and as I thought it was something else, the air intake is leaking, according to the unit and that sounds about right. Buy one, I recommend this one as it’s fine for me.

Better value than going to a mechanic and you get the same result, quick read through the instructions and it’s fairly easy to understand, good bit of kit for the price.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersIt’s a basic OBD2 car scanner, looks pretty much the same as 100 others and probably carries out exactly the same functions.

This particular one has a decent length interface cable and a very clear display. I must admit that I actioned a ‘lucky dip’ selection, as so many similar devices were available, but it connects up and works just fine.

If I was picky, I’d deduct a star as they didn’t include a bag, but it arrived in a box that should do the job well for some time.

    Happy with my purchase.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPurchased this tool for my toyota car year 2003 and found out that something wrong with the gas cap engine. So happy to have this, it comes so handy and very economical, we dont have to go to the car mechanic just to check or diagnos the problem we are saving some bucks because of this tool. Its easy to use and operate just plug and play and it will display the code. Its worth a try having this OBD2.
