Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTrying to link a Mac mini (2014) to a new Sharp Smart TV I connected them with a top range 8K HDMI cable. I got great video but NO sound. Weeks of communications with Apple, Sharp/UMC and the cable suppliers. None came up with this simple solution – namely to go Thunderbolt to HDMI with this excellent value device. Once connected to any of TV HDMI ports when you check on your mac System Preferences > Sound under Output you will see the name of the Smart TV has been added which once selected gets you sound as well as video. Do not believe you have to be on OSX Catalina or above – it works on OSX – Mojave. Tried to thank and comment to all those who answered ny June 2023 question but there seems no way to do tha

Needed this to transform my old MacBook Pro so that I could connect to an external monitor via hdmi. Plugged into my MacBook and the hdmi cable and picture appeared on display screen.
Just what I wanted. No problems. Does what it was meant to do.

I ordered the product as the previous item I ordered was wrong. I was wary as this was an Amazon basics and thought it wouldn’t be good quality or last long I was completely wrong about tha

I’ve a mid 2011 iMac 27, and had been wanting to see if I could use a 2nd screen with it.

After a LOT of research, mainly reading reviews that weren’t very good, I came across one that simply said it worked with 2011 imacs. And it does. Lol. I’d used a similar one on an older iMac and whilst it worked I was a pain to get the right resolution set and it was never 100% right.

This one however, just worked. Very impressed. And I now have a 27in iMac with a 2nd screen.

    Great stuff.

I wanted to use my iMac 2013 as an external monitor but sadly I don’t think it’s possible with my model. The product isn’t at fault as I’ve tried it on other devices.

Plug-&-play, easy to install and the picture quality was very good. The only downside is occasionally (3x during set up) the picture drops, it’s random and no one is around the adaptor or cable, sound still comes through, we disconnect all wires and plug back in and it all comes back. Usually once it’s reset there were no issues. We don’t use it all the time, I’d purchase it again.

My HDMI socket on my laptop doesn’t work anymore, first I tried a USB to hdmi adapter, more expensive than this, but the quality was poor and lagging, even with low resolution settings.

This one works with maximum resolution and setings very very smooth.

If I try 4k video settings on youtube I get a bit of lagging, but on 1080p the quality is very good and smooth.
    So overall happy!

Very simple to use and makes a lap top screen so much better by connecting via HDMI to the TV. If you like yoga then this is a great way to watch it in big.

I bought this because I did not want to use chrome cast or Amazon fire stick to connect from my MacBook to my TV. It works perfectly. You’ll need an HDMI cable of course.

Of course, if you use a wireless device such as chrome cast or Amazon fire stick, you have the luxury of not tying your computer to your TV, but I chose this wired option because it’s just a lot simpler.

You will need to go into your settings to work out how to mirror your MacBook screen to an external screen, but that is quite easy, and you can look that up on the Internet.

No fuss set up…plugged in and it played. Only just got so can’t comment on robustness, but so far so good (my old original Apple one had stopped working).

This was exactly what I wanted for my laptop! Having a MacBook Air can be annoying when you cant do things like normal laptops can. But this connector changed all that for me. It works perfectly and its small which is brill because it means wires dont get tangled! Highly recommend.

This is a good item, solid construction and gives the feeling you can rely upon it. Have a few AmazonBasic adapters (you never know when you walk into a meeting what cables connections you’ll be offered) in my laptop bag and they’ve never let me down. Replaced the combined units with different connections with various of these as the feel is better and haven’t missed a beat so far!

I wanted an adapter to allow me to connect my MacBook Air to tv and this does the job perfectly. Have also connected a Surface Pro both with clear pictures and sound. Feels well made and should last.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWorks perfectly, no need to purchase some expensive adapters or the really expensive genuine apple ones – this one does the job.

I use this adapter to hook up my MacBook Air late 2015 to my external monitor for a widescreen view, this adapter works perfectly – been using for couple of months now and have run into no issues.

I may buy a few more for travel purposes.

Got this so I could use my 32 inch TV as a secondary monitor when editing video. Works as advertised. Just plug it in, set up your options and you are ready to go. Recently used it to to send a video feed to two huge monitors at a Gala event we hosted for a TV show we recently completed shooting. Worked flawlessly.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis seems to work with my Macbook Air without any issues. No problems waking-up from sleep, at least that I’ve seen so far. Build quality perhaps not so stellar, but it does the job replacing my more expensive Belkin converter that failed on me after a few months use.

Well it certainly does it’s job and sends the signal from the Mac to the TV. For some reason though it doesn’t transmit sound as well, this may however be a failing in my ageing equipment rather than a failing of the adapter itself. Worth noting though if you have quite and old Mac laptop and quite an old TV!
