Used to check a suspected faulty battery and or charging system, it confirmed both were okay and the battery just needed a charge up, it has been fine ever since. Really pleased with it.
Cheap Feel, but does seem accurate for 2 cars of mine, so 4/5 stars. I am surpirsed just how helpful this tool has been. It has prompted me (from it’s results) to buy a battery tender and battery charger. I have jaguar XKR 2013 and Bentley Continental GT 2006. The tenders/chargers were not cheap, however I have benefitted from using them rather than simply swapping batteries for 170 plus. Long story, Long explanation, but for me A GOOD BUY 4/5 Stars
Compact, easy to use.
I had three batteries to test – one that seemed to have died (my son left the vanity light on for at least 24 hours) wasn’t old – possibly 1 or 2 years old.
Didn’t have charger available so bought a new battery as the quickest solution at the time.
The batteries in our own two cars seemed to die quickly when the cars aren’t used for two – three weeks.
Used the tester on all three.
The two from our cars said replace (even after charging) – the internal resistance of each was high, so that made sense.
The one I took out of my son’s car was absolutely fine (after charging) – well within spec.
Haven’t tested its analysis of alternator charging yet, but will add to this review when i have.
It is quite an expensive unit (given that the batteries we use cost under 80 in sales), but I can’t see any reason why it won’t last for ages, and provides some peace of mind.
Easy to use and gives accurate repeatable results. A flat discharged battery will display as replacement needed. Just give the battery a full charge then test again for an accurate battery health reading. Can test either while battery is connected in the car or else removed from car. Wish I had this kit 3 years ago when 2 garages told me I needed a new battery when in fact what I simply needed to do was simply charge the battery up as it was flat.
As a device for checking battery state it’s pretty good. It will check battery health, charge rate and starting ability. The reason it’s not five stars is because the user manual is complete rubbish, vague rubbish at that. Also, the software supplied for printing off results doesn’t work, at least not for me, it installs ok but doesn’t recognize the device when attached to the computer. So it basically does the job, but not completely as it implies.
I watched a review about this on Youtube and I thought it would solve my battery power problems which is it is discharging too quickly when left to stand a few days.
Sadly the Tester didn’t give me a conclusive answer on it’s own, simply stating Good – Battery Re-Charge. However, it did prove that my alternator was charging adequately and after carrying out a number of comprehensive current drain checks which were fine I am no wiser as to the cause of the problem other than to conclude that the battery is a good battery but not at it’s stated rating.
It seems to be quite sturdy and simple to use although one disappointment is that the select button cover started to lift (curl). I should have taken a photo but I simply pushed it down. I would not expect this to happen a relatively expensive piece of test equipment.
It takes a few hours to get your battery charged enough to start car.Tells you condition of battery and alternator charging condition. You do have to have electricity close by as it works from the mains
So not good if you are stopped in middle of country side.It is a good tool to have.
I bought this for my Husband. Seems to do the job & he’s happy enough with it but he said it could do with a few tweaks to make it 5*. Its nice & compact & seems to be modern enough
This is a great product to have for someone like me have many cars in the family, its ver simple to use tester. Test are done quickly & the results are almost perfect. Option to transfer the last result to PC is a great feature. Would have been great if atleat 10 previous test results were stored in the unit for transfer to PC.
Used this now on several vehicles, its perfect as it is a small easy to store and handle little unit
Good options for various tests
And an option to print results
Runs off external battery to
Very happy with this
Bought to check my alternator and starter motor functioning correctly after some earth cable issues (TWO corroded and snapped leaving no power steering!). The battery was discharging by up to 0.2 volts overnight and I was worried about alternator damage. All check ok after both cables reconnected with new crimps. Battery had already been checked by a neighbour with a very expensive meter and the Ancel gave almost identical results. Avoid one trip to an auto electrician or buying a new battery that you didn’t need and this device has paid for itself.
I bought this to prove a faulty battery to a supplier who was reluctant to honour a warranty claim. Very clear & easy to use. Printer function is useful. All things considered it is a well priced and capable tester.
Having looked at more expensive testers, this tester seems to be able to test a wider range of Ah’s than some other more expensive testers. The only down side is that the Ah’s have to be set in 5Ah increments and the unit resets to 50Ah’s each time, but this really isn’t an issue.
I was not expecting to receive a product that was so well made and provided me with such accurate results. We install after-marker equipment into high marque vehicles, it is now “CRITICAL” to carry out battery and charge checks prior to installing Dash Cams etc to ensure the condition of the battery and charge system prior to carrying out any work as the main dealers WILL blame the Dash Cam and bill YOU as we hard wire the product. The first check we made was on a new BMW X6 and we did find an electrical discharge and poor battery condition. We cancelled the install as this will result in poor starting. We referred the driver to report this to the main dealer for a warranty claim. This is a MUST HAVE ITEM for any vehicle technician/engineer.
This product is an ideal cheaper version of some expensive products delivery was superb and as i run a busy garage its ideal quick tester that does as it should easy to use and hasnt been wrong yet would highly recommend i
Got it last week, the device works pretty well, but there are some things that could be improved:
– would be great having a pouch or a box where to store it
– paper roll sometimes gets stuck (traction roll doesn’t pull correctly, maybe it is the paper, not sure yet.
– works with lots of standards, it would be great to have also the possibility to test using Ah, as some batteries (deep cycle especially) don’t indicate CCA.
Apart that I spent one day testing several batteries and it works great!
Tested this on my 6 yr old car battery. It confirmed that the battery while still working was getting old and would need a recharge or possible replacement. It’s important to set up the tester correctly to read the correct type of battery and rating. My car is a 5 series BMW and you get different reading if tested directly on the battery terminals or in the engine. It’s important to test directly connected to the battery terminals for the most accurate reading. Also went to a garage and their expensive battery charger gave exactly the same results. Very pleased. Well worth the money.
Car batteries are so expensive and you can’t always believe some service centres that claim your battery is no good. I had a Rover car quite a few years back. The electronic control unit would show an error light and prevent the car from starting. I took it to a garage who told me it was my battery failing and they fitted a new one. To be fair, for a couple of days it seemed to have solved the problem. Then it started doing the same thing. Taking the car to a different garage and they said the battery would not have been the cause. It was a faulty ECU that was causing the problem. I never got the old battery back as the original garage said they had disposed of it. I felt conned.
When I saw this battery analyser from Ancel I just had to buy it. Okay, at 45.99 its not cheap but I do have a caravan as well with a leisure battery in it. This little device will work equally well with that too. If you have two or more cars/caravans then this device is worth the asking price in my opinion.
A lot of the facilities offered with this analyser are very technical and more suited to a professional. However, even a novice like myself, I found it relatively easy to use. It places some heavy loads on your battery and basically analyses the voltage output to see how well the battery handles it. It can detect a faulty cell in the battery as well.
The manual is quite clear in its instructions. A handy feature is the USB port on the side of the unit. They supply some PC software on a CD that enables you to pass the analytic data to a printer via your PC.
In my opinion, this analyser more than does the job I require of it and does it well.
I hope you found my review helpful.
