his is better than other ones i have used Stronger plus it also has a back plate you can put over the pan when crushing the spuds very useful when doing the mashing
Sturdy product which is good when ricing potatoes. Ones I have bought in the past has started to bend so it’s good eventually buy a ricer that actually does what is supposed to and still be the same shape after use.
My wife has arthritis in her hands and was having difficulty with her old ‘helical’ ricer so we thought this would be better. But she found that even the 3mm hole version was difficult to squeeze. For people with a stronger grip this probably makes beautifu,l finely mashed potato, but it wasn’t good for us.
I have only used the product for making mashed potato. It was sturdy, had a technique all of its own when it came to use and wasn’t easy to clean but the fluffy mashed potato it produced was really good.
Really good at mashing spuds, but reduce the amount you use as this makes the potatoes go further – produces more mash than you think! Cleaning should be done soon as – a quick rinse under the tap helps. Makes lovely fluffy mash and easier than conventional method.
This takes a bit more faff than just mashing potatoes but the end result is so worth it. Makes smooth creamy mash. The only issue is that you have to peel the spuds before you mash them otherwise the skin gets stuck on the ricer and you have to pick it out between ricing! Other than that it’s easy to use, easy to clean, just pop it in the dishwashe
Love this product. Mash potatoes are the best I’ve tasted with this device, which I saw on James Martin’s Saturday programme. Easy to use. Recommend putting it in soak as soon as you’ve used it to stop food getting stuck in little crevices. Excellent buy. Definitely recommended
I likd potato rivers but Ivd had better ones. There was a sharp ridge on the handle which I had to file off before use, but that only took a couple of mi nutes
Been after one for years but kept putting if of so with Christmas coming I thought I would order one and I wished I brought one years ago. They make it so much easier and the mash is the best I’ve ever had. So if your think about one justget it you won’t be disappointed
Great product! Very easy to use! I mashed potatoes with the peel on, cut in half and placed with the inner part facing the holes … Great ground potatoes without any residual of peel! (Was flattened inside the ricer! Very easy to remove…) In this way you’ll avoid the painful process of peeling while potatoes are still very hot !!!!!!
Bigger than I thought it would be and it requires a fair amount of elbow grease but it works well. Make sure to peel your potatoes properly though, otherwise you have to keep dropping to to unblock it.
I only used it once so far to press pureed chestnuts. It went really well. The ‘plunger’ part is snug enough so only a very small amount escaped up on the side. As the whole press is in once piece it does not fall apart while you refill it. It sits well over the top of a bowl or a saucepan, and the flat, plastic lined handle is easy to press down. Cleaning was OK. I don’t know how durable it will prove, but so far so good.
The item was delivered quickly but unfortunately, the box was damaged upon arrival, however, goods were intact.
Have not used as yet but looks a bit awkward to clean. Will advise.
Just used the ricer and the mash is super smooth.
I like how easy this potato ricer is to use, much kinder on the hand than a traditional potato masher. Potatoes come out light and fluffy. I think it will be good for cottage pie topping. The ricer is fairly easy to clean although a bit unwieldy when opened up. Very sturdy material. Very pleased I bought it.
Omg where have these been all my life.. Lol… I loves this device. It does as it says. You do get a bit of residue on top of the moving parts especially if you over fill but easy enough to scrape off and add to be riced later. Such smooth mash… Amazing
Solid, sturdy and does the job efficiently. Anything involving potatoes is a pain to clean but this goes in the dishwasher has no hidden nooks and crannies and comes out quite well. The actual use is simple though potato comes over the edge and needs to be carefully put back through the ricer to prevent any lumps. Maybe I need to practice with smaller quantities at a time …
Leaves the potato fluffy and smooth and is actually less strenuous than manually mashing the potato
Only used this once and I must say I am very very pleased! Never had such smooth mash in my life! My husband keeps raving about how much he loved it and it’s been 3-4 days since I made mash! I put in a sweet potato with my regular potatoes and I find they don’t always mash very well but they did perfectly and even my kids loved it!
Great results, honestly better than any mashed potato I’ve ever made. But it takes a bit of effort to get started. Definitely not suitable if you have weak hands or wrists.
I have yet to use this in the kitchen but it is a nice piece of design. It feels substantial and I am sure it will do the job asked of it when the time comes. If the sieve were removable from the handle it would be easier to clean. The grooves cut into the handle to allow it to be rested on a bowl or pot are a nice touch.
The ricer makes smithereens out of potatoes, however as mentioned in other reviews not all the potatoe will extrude through the holes, some will make their way back up above the pressing plate. This is ok because as these potatoes are pretty much mashed too, it’s just awkward having some coming out the top when you’re opening the ricer again. This can be more of a problem when ricing more fibrous things like carrots or sweet potatoes, where to avoid fibrous lumps, trying to get these escaped bits back into the main chamber. But for potatoes it really is excellent mash.
Cleaning is a bit of a pain though, as it doesn’t come apart it can be awkward trying to clean in the sink, as there are a few parts that swing around as you try to clean each surface. Also it will take up quite a bit of space on the draining board. Would recommend though as it makes great mash potatoes
Overall it does what it is meant to do, However the finish on the edges on the handle could have been smoother. Easy to cut yourself…….will be looking around to replace this soo
A handy little tool to have in the kitchen and works effectively to create a great mashed potato. It has handy notches on one end so that you can hook it onto the edge of a pan; it is also handy for those with weaker hands.
The potato will often come up around the sides and go on top of the plate so you have to scrape it back down every now and then which can be a bit awkward and occasionally fall out the side.
Unfortunately, the soldering holding the plate which pushes the potato through was rather poorly done and the plate managed to come off. I have fixed it with some gorilla glue which is considerably stronger than the initial welding.
It is a good product which, after my little fix, I hope will last me a while.
So I bought this ricer when I was young and green, after I lived with a lady who had many culinary tricks up her sleeve to teach me (cutting chicken into strips with scissors, cutting pizza with scissors, potato ricer…)
It’s a one-piece device that really does function just like a garlic press, so if you’re familiar with how those work then this’ll be a doddle. It also saves so much wasted energy mashing the living daylights out of potatoes and I do believe that it is a bit quicker too despite the need to ‘load’ hot potatoes into the device.
Some notes:
1) This particular ricer does not have ‘interchangeable’ hole-size pieces, I’m not sure why some have that because I don’t think it’s all that necessary – this particular device produces perfectly sized potato which can then very quickly and easily be made into perfect mash (just add a splash of milk, an obscene amount of butter and salt.)
2) I bought another one of this model for my friends, who enjoy using it. Since I bought this one, I left it at my partner’s place in Norway – with me stuck in Blighty thanks to a certain pandemic – so I did buy a different one (Joseph Joseph) which I would recommend more highly as it’s in two pieces and works on a twist motion which requires less muscle strength than this one.
3) If you have a dishwasher, this particular device does take up a fair amount of space, but dishwashing it is much easier than washing it by hand – since it is in just one piece if you’ve got a small sink it’s not the easiest to wash.
4) This does require a little strength to effectively squash the potatoes through the holes – it might be a bit awkward for people with low upper body strength, or if you’ve undercooked your potatoes.
5) I would say that to make enough mash for about 4 people, you’d need to load the ricer 3-4 times.
TL/DR – SUMMARY:
Good if you want a fairly priced device that’s simple to use.
I purchased this because I wanted to make healthier mash, with carrots and Swede, which can be very difficult to mash without lumps. I am quite pleased with
It. Although I must say, it can be a bit tricky to clean, but i imagine they’re all quite difficult to clean. A small price to pay for smooth lump free mash. It’s looks and feels sturdy, and well built, but I’ve only given a 4 star for sturdiness as ive only used or 3 times.
I was not sure on this at first, after seeing it used on a few cookery TV shows i thought i give it a go. IT s the best thing i bought for a while, it makes mash so smooth and no lumps which always been a complaint. My partner who couldn’t use the masher properly now loves it to the point where we have thrown the masher away.
A boss ricer!
Was sceptical when ordering due to the reviews. No extra bits… but didnt expect, want or need.
Loved my old one… this ‘does what is says on the tin’! Buy it!
Only used a couple of times but am pleased with it, does what its meant to do.
Went for 4 stars as you do get some potatoe come back out the back of tube.
I ordered this to help mash potatoes , it’s essier than using a conventional mashing tool and makes the perfect mash everytime . I can see this becoming one of my favourite kitchen gadgets . It’s very strong and sturdy , and come packaged it in a box , perfect to put away for the next time you make mash . 5 stars all the way for this handy little gadget . I’m really impressed
