Does what it says on the tin. Is well made, reasonably priced and has good paper quality. The cover is rather tough, giving this product a leg up on soft cover alternatives.
Used this sketchbook for my A-Level art coursework and it was perfect. Nothing to complain about, held all my work.
I actually prefer pink pigs sketchbooks, but these are a great alternative if you can’t get your hands on those.
I’ve used this sketchbook for a range of projects using pencils, gouache, acrylics, watercolor, markers and even collages. The paper is of good quality and is able to withstand heavy mediums. It’s an overall very versatile paper encased well in a sturdy hardback. There’s is no texture to the paper and I wouldn’t recommend it if you wish to focus watercolor as it won’t give you the desired flow and absorption.
As a regular drawer it is a risk buying paper for me without assessing it, I took a gamble and it has really paid off. The paper quality is excellent, the rings on the bind are great and I have recently purchased an A4 landscape one as I am that happy with the paper. Will be a regular purchaser from now on.
Quality is really goodbut the only thing that would be better is if the cover was made with a better material, because if u want to customize the cover and glue things on it won’t dry
Bought this for my five year old grandson who loves to draw. He adores it. The paper is quality so his felt tips don’t bleed through. I would recommend for any budding artis
I had previously used another company which was more expensive but I am surprised to the quality of this product! It has similar paper quality and is very good for pen and marker use.
My daughter wanted this book. She is yet to use it but she says it’s ok. The wrapping wasn’t too pleasing though as they stuck the postage label on the pack which made it difficult to remove
THE QUALITY IS AMAZING. Such good value for money. The front and back panels have an almost soft texture its amazing. The green protective page feels almost leathery and the pages are great quality. Whole thing feels expensive highly recommend
Great quality paper with a good texture. It’s probably ideal for use with coloured pencils though as some markers (ohuhu especially) bleed through onto the other side of the page. It’s a good value for money though especially due to its sturdiness (have dropped it a LOT and it’s been absolutely fine), I’ll definitely buy another when I finish this one.
Wow. I had heard youtubers mention art gecko as a brand so when I went to buy a sketchbook I trusted buying this even though I had never seen it in person, and honestly I’m amazed. the quality of the paper is lovely (and the color of the paper is very white compared to other sketchbooks which are sometimes kind of cream colored) the pages are thick, the rings are sturdy, and the outside has a sort of soft faux leather feel to it. the first page of the sketchbook is actually a green faux leather sheet with art gecko written on it. the quality on this thing is through the roof, especially for the price. where I live art supplies are really expensive so I was honestly expecting the quality to be mediocre-but-i-got-what-i-paid-for, but this is actually really good. id buy another any day. also, the paper quality is lovely. it can hold light watercolour (though it does bleed to the back a little with heavy alcohol markers, which is to be expected)
I’m an… intermediate artist, although I mostly work digitally and bought this to try and break some of the bad habits I’ve developed as a result. Sketching on paper, you have a finite number of times you can erase before you simply have to move to the next drawing, so they’re good learning tools.
I can’t speak to how this holds up to other media, as I’m solely using it as a study tool with pencil, but for that purpose it’s wonderful. The paper is smooth (so as not to create unintended texture or friction in a sketch), unmarked, and has a satisfying sound when “wobbled” (sorry, that’s how I judge paper, I’m not a pro by any means). The book arrived wrapped and similarly unmarked. The cover is soft to the touch and pleasant to handle.
It’s a joy to sketch in – it arrived yesterday and I’ve filled four pages absentmindedly already lmao
I will note one drawback, however: the paper is cut to the same size as the cover, and – being ringbound – is therefore sometimes exposed at the edges. If you’re intending to carry it around, expect the edges of your pages to get… kinda bashed, maybe a little manky. For the price, however, I’m certainly not complaining.
I’m surprised with what I got quite honestly, with the price I thought I was going to receive printer paper but oh no, it was actually sketchbook paper.
Mainly designed for sketching I would advise against using markers like copic or alcohol based pens that would bleed through the paper. I only say this as many would buy sketch books and complain that their coloured pens bleed through, this book isn’t designed for that.
Overall the cover is like a soft smooth texture that with a press shows your fingerprint mark then fades away. On the first page is a green bumpy protective layer that is just a slightly thinner than the sketch paper.
The paper itself is good, I would say for any artist or beginners it’s a good average paper, it’s thicker than printer paper and not that see through. But you can see the darker areas where you’ve used heavy pressure or more darker leads. The paper is what you would find in art class.
Overall the structure seems sturdy enough, the binding didn’t come damages and haven’t been damaged thus far.
Very impressed with this “Artgecko Classy Sketchbook”. The books outer cover is very sturdey indead, back cover has a little motive of a gecko print on (nice little touch). The inner and outer-inner sleave is bright neon green, egg shell imbossed and gives a crackled effect to the paper (which, against the black outer covers has a very nice contrast). Drawing pages themselves are thick to the touch. The feel and weight of each page are of nice quality, good shade of white and your finished masterpiece is shure to raise smiles all round. “This book is, a winner in my eyes”. One very satisfied customer.
After owning this for about half a year I decided to review it. This was my first real sketchbook and I had a few more sketchbooks from other brands since. I’m very happy with the quality of the book and the paper is relatively smooth and easy to draw on. It’s thick enough to handle heavy fineliner pen use and I assume felt tips and watercolours too. Pencil smudging and transfer can happen between the pages with use. The only complaint I have is the nice soft coating of the front and back covers can attract and show dust, small debris and grease very easily. [Edit] I found out you can wipe the covers clean with a damp cloth without damaging them. Overall I recommend Artgecko as one of best British made sketchbooks.
I have ordered a sketchbook from the brand before and I am very pleased with the item I was deliverd
the quality of the paper is great for many diffrent types of drawings and art pieces, with a durable cover to boot , my previous one is quite old but the cover is still standing strong
The paper quality is light but thick if your thinking of using markers water or alcohol based it’s a great book to use (even if you use paints alls good)
Marker bleeding is minor if any
As for shipping it came quicker than it was supposed to which I am very pleased with
The overall packaging was great
I’m pleased that they thought of the quality i wanted my item to be
highly recommend for any artists esspessialy if you like drawing anime or highly coloured imagery
I have no problem with this sketchbook at all. It is my first ever sketchbook so i wanted to get something at a good price. This looked well priced and already had good views.
I ordered on a Sunday afternoon and it was with my on Monday afternoon after being dispatched at something like 3am! Wow!
The paper quality seems to be awesome but i’m not an expert. I have used pencil, pastels, inks, felt tips, water colour and acrylic in the book so far and it holds all of them nicely, (although it does warp with paint, but that doesnt particularly bother me)
I shall definitely buy this book again when i need another!
I’m not a professional artist or anything along those lines, so please bare in mind that this purely from a beginner hobbyist’s point of view.
I ordered this because the reviews were good and the price was also great. The fact that it’s made by hand in Yorkshire, with British paper is a huge bonus – I love supporting small businesses!
It came in a plastic wrapper, probably needed in Amazon’s Prime holding facilities as I’ve had plenty of grubby stuff arrive via Prime. I was instantly impressed the second I removed the wrapper to find the cover is beautifully tactile, and then I opened it up to find a green inside cover with another tactile delight for my hands to roam over featuring the artgecko logo.
I was mainly looking for a sketchbook that I can practice sketching in, before transferring the ideas to watercolour paper for painting purposes, I’m not good with a pencil by any stretch of the imagination lol. And the paper has that slight bit of tooth that takes pencil nicely. I’m honestly amazed at the quality for the price!
I had a bit of a play last night, and couldn’t resist testing my Gouache and watercolour paints on a sheet, not that I expected it to hold up at all, but figured it’d be good to know in case I want to do a light wash with a sketch or something. Surprisingly it took it ok, with zero bleed through, and while there is some ghosting on the reverse from my darkest Gouache paints, a bit of warping I’m still impressed because I wasn’t expecting it to hold up at all (I’ve included a picture of the reverse).
I also checked out the company’s Instagram as the little notecard that came with the sketchbook listed their account and it was lovely to see their re-posting of the customer’s works in their books, as a small business owner myself social media done right is a wonderful thing, enabling us to develop better relationships with customers and giving the personal touch that being small gives the advantage of being able to do. Therefore if you’re considering ordering an artgecko sketchbook I recommend you go and see what their customers are doing with them over on Instagram as well as reading these reviews.
I’m looking forward to filling mine in with my scrawls!
A really great sketch book, I was looking for something seriously affordable with lots of pages that I could do mostly pencil sketches in and this seems to do the trick. I haven’t tried drawing in it yet but it’s great quality, there’s so many pages and the paper is thick and sturdy – I tend to not like using anything below 150GSM due to paper scrunching or ripping when you erase too hard so this was great. I especially appreciate the hard cover, gives you something reliable to lean on unlike sketchbooks with thin soft covers. Will be buying more of these in the future!
My only complaint is that despite being air sealed with a very thick hardcover to both sides of the sketchbook, all the pages came oddly warped and wavy and I’m not sure how or why. It doesn’t look like water damage and I should be able to straighten them out with something heavy no problem, but it’s baffled me a bit as I have no explanation for it! Wondering if anyone else had this issue. Could just be the way the paper is, who knows.
