To be honest I was not expecting much, how wrong was I? not the longest of ‘run’ times, but with the 2 batteries it is ample for my personal use – 10/10
Very impressed with the Bamse Mini Chainsaw it might be small and rechargeable but I have just lopped six or seven branches of 6-8 inches in diameter from my ash tree.
Very happy with the chainsaw. I had many overdue jobs in the garden with overgrown tree branches these were all completed very quickly with the Bamse chainsaw. Easy to use and cuts through quickly and easy. Also very happy with the 2 year warranty which was activated the same day I received the product.
Holy smokes… This little 8″ chainsaw has some grunt! My first cut and because of the angle of cut a massive chunk of bush trunk hit my face shield… Thank god it was a polycarbonate screen or I’d have lost my nose or an eye! It dented my polycarbonate screen!
After that I watched some more videos on YouTube and I’ve avoided further face strikes!
TLDR: This has a lot of power, wear a face shield! Unless you’re an expert with chainsaw because you already know this!
Wish I bought one ages ago. So much easier than getting out chain saw for smaller jobs. Not sure cut 8 inches but 4 to 6 you can do. It has a safety lock but as you can use it with just one hand my advice is ALWAYS wear protective gloves….too easy to get other hand near. Battery lasts long enough. There’s 2 anyway. Not sure how long it will last as I am giving it a hammering but still on first chain. ( 2 supplied). Looks well made but probably not as sturdy as a big brand. Still it’s good value and fantastic tool to have.
Probably one of the best products I have ever purchased for “bang for your buck”
At the price point this thing is unbelievable. I am an ex tree surgeon and I’m used to working with high end saws and equipment. This thing really does have a place, as a handheld saw which can be carried anywhere. I get into the woods and collect old firewood from fallen branches. It’s discreet, and powerful enough to cut 7 inch diameter timber or more if you are steady with it. Yes the battery wears down fast cutting big stuff but it is very impressive, especially for dicing up small branches. 4 inch diameter or less, it is unbelievable efficient. 5*stars
Every year I have to “tame” a huge blackthorn tree. I’ve used loppers, saws etc.. and the tree usually ends up winning! I needed to try something new. I’ve never used or owned a chainsaw of any description but when I found this it seemed my problem may be solved.
The features and the price drew me in so I ordered. It arrived within 2 days. The storage/carry case is excellent. The supporting instruction manual is a godsend. QR codes take you to how to videos which are easy to understand. The saw itself is easy to handle and use and as it says, it’s like cutting through butter!! 2 batteries is a massive bonus as you can carry on working whilst the other re-charges. Why hadn’t I bought this a long time ago? My 5 star review is well justified.
I’ve previously had a full-sized mains chainsaw which I used with great trepidation being untrained.
This small, cordless approach feels much more usable, though still taking considerable care and with the right protective kit.
After trimming off thin branches with a lopper, I easily removed a small tree with a trunk diameter of over 6″ – working in sections to avoid generating anything too heavy and having checked out the odd video on how to approach the job. (I’d recommend going for the 8″ version of the tool unless your jobs are definitely going to be under 5″.)
The batteries don’t last that long, very much in line with what’s advertised, so don’t expect to get a huge amount of work out of each charge. But for the odd small to medium bit of chopping it certainly beats a manual bow saw. (I’d tried. Believe me!)
The chainsaw comes in a generously sized case which I hadn’t expected.
All in all, highly recommended for occasional use, particularly if you can get it with a reasonable discount :-).
OUR 33 YEAR OLD LOGGIA BEGAN TO COLLAPSE, SO MY WIFE ASKED OUR TWO SONS TO DISMANTLE IT. I USED THE CHAINSAW TO CUT THE TIMBERS TO 750 MM LENGTHS, WHICH MY WIFE REMOVED TO THE MUNICIPAL TIP. THE SAW BEHAVED IMPECCABLY AND THE CUTTING WAS ACHIEVED USING TWO THIRDS BATTERY POWER. THE DIMENSIONS OF THE LOGGIA WERE 1O FT 6″ X 9 FOOT WIDE X 9 FOOT HIGH AND WAS BUILT USING SUBSTANTIAL TREATED TIMBER, UP TO 6″ X 6″ BALKS. I BUILT THE LOGGIA MYSELF & AS I’M NOW 77 Y.O.A,. I WAS GLAD THAT THE SAW WAS LIGHTWEIGHT, POWERFUL AND EASY TO KEEP SHARPENED. ( I BOUGHT OREGON LUBRICANT AND A SHARPENING TOOL ROLL, WHICH I FOUND TO BE ESSENTIAL ) THE SAW WAS A DELIGHT TO USE, AND EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. LOOK NO FURTHER, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL !
An excellent addition to my armoury of tools. Brilliant for taking off small tree limbs , particularly when up a ladder as it is easy to operate one handed, much safer than my petrol chainsaw. It is very quick and there is little vibration compared to a cordless reciprocating saw which used to leave my hands and wrist numb after use. If you have lots of small branches (upto about 4 inches)that you want to chop up for firewood, or just to reduce their size for taking down the tip, this is the bit of kit you need.
After several months of quite intensive use, I noticed that occasionally, twigs and debris would get wrapped around the drive mechanism and jam into the safety cover. Keep and eye out for this and remove immediately. If you don’t the jammed twigs can force the cover and bend the locating lug. This happened to me but Bamse customer services were faultless. I contacted Christina late Monday, she replied early Tuesday, and by Wednesday lunch time a replacement safety cover had been delivered. You can’t get better service than that.
as some one who likes to try new stuff especially different tools it can be and get expensive buying them from named brands so i always look for alternative makes and brands that make or supply similar and in some cases better items at a faction of the cost usually. With the Bamse mini cordless chainsaw i found another excellent bit of kit, as per description on Amazon and reviews, in fact i found it even better than expected for a cordless saw, the case it comes in is solid and everything fits back in easily after been used which i have found can be an issue with other makes and brands. instructions are clear and comes with spare chain. now for the slightly bad news, after 6 or 7 uses i had to contact Bamse as my saw developed a problem we think with the electric motor and would stop much to often when sawing even with a new chain and fully charged battery but the customer service has been brilliant, with in hours of me emailing my questions and request to extend the warranty (free for two years bye the way) they had contacted me and within a day or so have sorted everything and are suppling a replacement, 5 stars just for the customer service as well. Thank you Bamse
We have approx 2 acres of woodland and need to keep it maintained in order to have light in our home . We have a bank at the back of our house with lots of coppiced hazel and we used this one afternoon to cut All the branches , stems and small trunks. I am too scared to use the petrol chainsaw we own but was happy to use this and it made easy work of it. My husband was surprised at how quick it was and much easier than our traditional methods of doing it . The battery lasted a good amount of time and we then went through the second battery but cut a lot of thin branches . It was light so great for me . The power lasted better than I thought so I am very pleased with it and it was a good buy especially with the additional 2 year warranty. I also liked the fact it was 8″ as most other models I looked at were only 4″ or 6″ which I don’t think would have faired so well with the work we did. The chain did come off a few times but was easily put back on and oiled . I will be using this frequently in the garden and hope it holds up. We will also take it camping as the box is small enough to carry with us in the campervan
and will help to chop up logs for a camp fire ! Highly recommended.
A great tool and time saver. Chainsaws can be extremely dangerous and need caution when operating.
Being such a short tool the chains are in very close proximity to the body. I geared up with full face mask, a neck guard and put on thick leather welding gloves. I found I was still able to operate the controls. I am left handed, and found it is designed for right hand use, and would find it difficult and clumsy for left hand use; however It did not pose a problem. You don’t need to use pressure to make the cut, let the blades do the job. I found it went through the thicker branches of a three hundred year old hawthorne with ease. It cut through a thick ash trunk very easily (see pic’) I just cut the heel through with a hand saw.
I cut through up to six branches at a time, & whilst clearing away I put the battery on top up charge and checked the blade tension and added a few more drops of oil. The oil supplied was very thin, I used a thicker oil. The tool stayed quite clean through use, just a little brush now and again.
I have done a great deal of work with it, with much more to do. I did find the chain needed adjustment from time to time, this is only to be expected; bear in mind the expansion of the chain due to heat/friction. Don’t get any oil near the locking thumb screw as you may get the chain loosen.
In conclusion a great tool, time & money saver, with a two year warranty makes it great value I can highly recommend it.
I bought this mini chainsaw as an addition to my sons petrol driven chainsaw we used to take out 16 trees and shrubs in our new houses garden, and what a great piece of kit, it’s light and maneuverable and can handle surprisingly large branches, with the two batteries supplied we never ran out of energy. I can honestly say if you need a small chainsaw for domestic use look no further, cheap to buy, easy to use and complete value for money.
My first trial run was surprising and I was amazed at the performance of the machine. The pre charged battery lasted longer than expected cutting down a large shrub. However the machine started stopping and starting after quiet a bit of use. On checking the battery charge lights it was showing two on which I assume indicated one third used. I then tried the second battery and the machine was running OK again. Its not really a great problem but I am not sure you can trust the charge lights. After use I dismantled machine as if I was renewing the chain but mainly to remove saw dust and chippings. This I found to be a bit fiddley and took longer than expected but might get easier next time. I am impressed with the machine performance overall and hope it proves reliable in the future. Time and use will tell but there is a two year guarantee to fall back on. By the way I have only had this 8inch chainsaw for three days when writing this.
Update — I have spent the last two day removing limbs/branches from a 13 foot pine tree and the saw worked very well. The battery no problem and lasted well. Branches up to 3 inches cut easily and there was a lot of them. The lack of there being no auto oiler did not pose a problem. I just brushed on some oil on teeth. The main thing I did not like is the chain adjustment. It is not the nicest thing to use and does not appear strong enough to last long term. Anyway the saw has nearly completed the task I purchased it for and saved me a lot of money than employing a tree expert.
Bought for older couple and it’s light weight and compact enough to easily use for them to do small bits about their garden. The battery performance is good as well especially as it comes with a spare. Looks good too.
I’ve used this for cutting down a couple of young trees and cutting up thicker branches. The cuts were clean and the saw got through easy. It’s not too heavy. Had to adjust the chain a but but found that easy to do as well. Happy with my purchase.
Iam so impressed with this mini chainsaw – great power and so light and easy to maneuver. my son has a full sized chainsaw which is too heavy for me but this one means I can tackle all the smaller jobs around the garden with ease- would definitely recommend this saw to anyone considering- with 3 batteries and a spare chain it’s a bargain and a quality one at that ! registered it with the company and got the extended 2yr warranty aswell- what’s not to like?
Great product and easy to use. Needed the item to cut down small trees in my front and backyard, which worked perfectly without any hassle. The battery lasts a good length of time and the carrying case is handy to store away.
Bought as a present for an older lady, and it did not disappoint. The sturdy carry case promised quality, and the chainsaw delivered, making short work of a much overgrown hydrangea. The chainsaw is light to carry about but powerful enough to cut quickly through branches the thickness of a broomhandle. The safety features are good.
The instruction manual is easy to follow, and actually helpful to someone who has never used such a tool before. Excellent value for money.
Really pleased with this little tool for the garden! My partner has a chainsaw but its just too much for me to use and this is so much easier to use in the garden. i literally use it all the time!!! took a while to get used to the bit of a kick back but love it.
Having read a number of very positive reviews I bought this mini chainsaw. I was not disappointed as it is every bit as good as customers say. Light but powerful enough to cut through quite thick branches and does not clog when using. Chain speed is good and cutting is easy. Battery life is fine for most jobs – a bigger battery would weigh more so you trade a lighter weight for the tool against longer battery life. I used this chainsaw to cut down a 10m tree with three trunks 8 – 10cm thick and after taking off the tops, cut the trunks into 30cm logs as I went down. I took 35 mins and used 2 and a bit batteries to complete cutting all the thicker branches into logs. The display on the battery is useful to show how much remaining power there is although the power does drain fast. Having a second battery included is very useful as you will probably need two for most jobs. A spare chain is very useful as you can continue any job while waiting for a replacement. A clear instruction book with QR codes to link to instruction videos is very helpful too. All contained in a neat carry case with a screwdriver and oil complete the tool. Extending the warranty by a year takes one e-mail and customer service looks to be excellent. Would highly recommend this product and supplier.
This came at just the right time as my daughter had moved into a house with a very overgrown garden. There was a lot of cutting back to be done from shrubs to branches on trees. The chain saw has worked perfectly on everything. It is light and well balanced and feels safe to use – I’d never used a chainsaw before so was a little apprehensive. The battery life is very good and having a second battery meant I had no excuse but to keep working.
The only problem I’ve had is that the chain has “jumped off” twice. That may have been because I’d adjusted it incorrectly. It was no problem to put it back on.
Overall very pleased with i
I have only used it to remove a small tree from my garden which it did really well 1 battery was enough for the whole job. I have a criticism in that the tool does not fit in the box with the battery fitted ( this might be a safety feature?) and the amount of chain lol supplied was vey little.in all an excellent tool just don’t try and cur down a giant redwood with it.
Still early to tell regarding durability but it looks well made. Performed a test cut on a 3inch dia tree stump and was very please with the easy and efficiency it dealt with it. Wish I had bought one years ago. It is light, easy to manoeuvre and the kick back is small when starting the cut. the two batteries are great allowing one to be charged whilst using the other (although I need a bigger job to test this and battery life. Will update following a bigger tree!
I already have a full-sized chainsaw for the larger logs but this mini chainsaw means that I can now easily tackle an enormous heap of brushwood and smaller logs that were taking an age to process. It cuts through 4″ logs with ease and speed, and the battery is still strong after half an hour’s sawing. Having two batteries is an extra bonus.
Arthritis has been limiting the amount of work I can do in the garden these days but this mini chainsaw has given me a new lease of life and means that I can do so much more. It is so light that you can use it with one hand. I only wish that I’d bought it earlier!
This is a great little saw, .extremely handy, and I salute whoever thought up the idea of these battery powered mini chain saws.
When I had tried it cutting a couple of 3″ logs and it was still shiny and hardly used, I gave it a great send-up on my fb page ! So everything is hunky dory then!? Well not quite, one crucial thing becomes quickly obvious contrary to other reviews my batteries do not last that long, they are OK I suppose, but I’ve never had the luxury of checking the little battery level lights, first one knows about the battery charge is when the saw abruptly comes to a dead stop… dead as a door-nail!
My batteries take THREE HOURS TO CHARGE ! As I write I am considering returning it for a refund as my batteries are constantly on charge ….. or the alternative is that I need to purchase or be gifted another couple of batteries and an additional plug in charger (Nb.not the greatest charging system ! ?)
Its a dilemma as I purchased the saw for around 60.00, not bad when one considers that I have seen this 8″ Bamsa Saw advertised online at around 190.00 (It’s certainly not worth that!)
If I was to split hairs… I would say it also needs an automatic chain lubricating system, but as I’ m not splitting hairs! I circumvented that little problem by using a little old fashioned pump style oil can filled with chain saw oil :))
I do have a small criticism which I’ll get to, but let me tell you about my experience from the start.
I was quite happy with the case. It is nifty and strong and not too big. They have packed a lot of stuff in there for the relatively small and neat size of it!
The kit comes with the chainsaw and your first chain attached and ready to go. There is a very neat little zip bag with your spare chain, bottle of oil, and a philips head screwdriver inside. There are also 2 batteries, fully charged and a belt hook if you need to hang it off your tool belt while getting up a ladder etc.
The manual is fantastic! I can honestly say I haven’t seen such a well-thought and produced manual like this since the 1990s when things were just made properly! And so too is the saw itself.. But I’ll get to that next.
The manual doesn’t only provide step-by-step pictorial instructions on how to use the saw, and tackle any potential issues.. but it also comes with QR codes for you to scan with your phone, which automatically shows you a how-to video! Brilliant idea and convenient if you just want to get straight to the job in hand as quickly as possible!
When I first pulled that trigger to start the saw I thought oh.. it’s a bit slower than expected. But I have never used one either so it’s no surprise that I underestimated it big time!
The saw is powerful, but its just not “super” fast. Which is a good thing for the simple reason that if it was any faster, it would probably be too hazardous to use with one hand, which is the way its intended to be used.
As you can see in my video, it cuts through roots and branches with ease. And this particular job was tricky because I had to be careful to not catch the brick wall.
Before I bought this saw, I thought I’d have to dig that thing up from under the ground! But 20 mins or so of using this saw (very gingerly around the bricks) and the job was done. If it wasn’t for the obstructions, I could have easily just sliced straight through it. Which I am HOPING anyone reading this will only need to do. The Buddleia weeds are a menace to my area, and cause structural damage to pretty much everyones property here! Nobody wants to get a handsaw out and spend hours tackling these things. But this saw is perfect to keep around for these little jobs and it makes keeping them at bay a doddle!
Now the only thing I found a slight fault with is the guard. I had to remove my guard because the job would have been impossible with it catching on everything. But I feel like there should be a smaller (2-3″) guard option in the box just to protect your fingers while still giving you that freedom of being able to stroke the blade in both directions. It’s not a big deal, but when using my free hand to support the saw (with the guard off), I felt like my fingers were resting a little bit too close to where the blade sits. So I put some duct tape over that little gap so that I knew where not to touch! I highly recommend you do this IF like me, you also choose to remove the guard. But for most jobs it is completely unnecessary as the guard bends backwards by quite a lot (see photos).
The battery still had 3/3 bars after that 20+ minute job. So I can’t imagine I will even need to charge them for a long time yet! I was surprised that these light batteries last so long. But I’ve found this is also the case with other Bamse products. And I absolutely love the “charge check” function they’ve put into each battery! (see photos)
Great product and well worth the money spent! It’s one of those tools where all your friends will want to borrow it because it’s not something we all make full use of, but boy is it handy to have when you need it!
Smashed all my expectations!
For its size it is perfect for those jobs where a full size chainsaw is to much but a saw is to much effort.
Used this to help dismantle a log store. Great carry case and everything is packed well. With the battery installed it’s not overly heavy but weighty enough to feel sturdy.
When in use it doesn’t jump and bounce when cutting. The battery life seems impressive, plus it comes with two! Charging time is very reasonable and I got my whole job done on one battery easily, with plenty left in it.
The safety guard works well, and the whole unit in hand is very ergonomic and can be used by either hand.
For the money, this is a great addition to any tool shed. Its quick enough to get out and start working. Some take to much effort to ‘set up’ so then you can’t be bothered, this is an out the box, battery in and go!
Overall I’m very happy and great value for money.
This brilliant robust but lightweight chainsaw is the perfect tool for pruning and cutting up wood or small logs, particularly if like us you have a number of trees and bushes in the garden, and if you are fortunate enough (as we are) to have a fire to burn the cut products. It comes neatly packed in its own case with two 2Ah batteries, charger, a spare chain, oil, and a screwdriver, the latter three items being housed in a zip case for convenience. The chainsaw is already fitted with a chain and is equipped with an LED light (which maybe useful in darker areas), and there was sufficient power in the battery to use it immediately out of the box. I tried it on some logs that had already been cut from our trees, and it made very light work of cutting them up into convenient size pieces to burn. The widest log I tried was just about 4″ in diameter (the maximum advertised), but it more than easily coped with that suggesting it could cut thicker pieces without too much trouble. The battery should last for 20-30 minutes before needing to be recharged, but with the second one available this gives plenty of working time. There are LED’s on the battery to indicate how much charge remains, and the charger itself has a red LED for charging which turns green when charging is complete.
Replacing the chain is very straightforward, just requiring the knob securing the safety guard to be removed, and then the screw slackened to loosen the chain. The important thing is to ensure that the replacement chain is installed so that the cutting edge is facing forward. The chain is then held in place by replacing the guard and tightening with the knob before screwing the chain tensioner screw to give the correct tension so that the chain teeth are about 1-3 cm from the chain bar as indicated in the manual. The manual itself takes you through this very simply and of course the photos on Amazon are helpful too, as are the QR scan codes in the booklet which give more explanatory information.
The chain is driven by a brushless motor thus eliminating arcing from conventional motors and to activate it, it is necessary to press the trigger while holding the button on the right hand side — a great safety feature. The unit is guaranteed for 2 years once the product has been registered.
So overall this is a really useful tool being lightweight, yet robust and powerful enough to cut tree branches, wood and logs, and I would highly recommend it.
