Solid as it should be , these last for eternity
Don’t be fooled by cheaper versions
BCB have been supplying the military for years
Thumbs up ! It’s the only tin opener I use being x military

I bought these as I used to have one when in the military. These are certainly not of that quality but they do the job. I have 4 of them and keep one in the draw, one in the car and two in my toolbox.

My brother gave my mum one of these when he enlisted. She used it for 20 years, sadly it disappeared after she passed away. I just had to buy it for myself.

Used to open tin cans that didn’t feature a ring pull

    Pros:
    – Works well once you get the hang of it. A little bit harder to use compared to a more modern can opener, but once you get used to it you can open cans with ease
    – Small size, easily fits inside of a wallet or pocket so you can carry it on your person at all times

    Cons:
    – Caused my hand so slightly cramp up after prolonged use, though wouldn’t be an issue if only opening one or two cans at a time

For those of a certain age these are nostalgic things. Simple objects, you do need to know the technique and must be careful, but they’re cool light items that take up such little room that you almost forget you’ve got them with you.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAs I said, the last one I had was from 1982, which I used for every tin, before I lost it in a house move. These things are invaluable. Made of steel, last for decades, and just require a firm grip. A lot of tin cans these days are made of material too soft for a conventional tin-opener – these handle those types just fine.

Anyone who managed to break theirs, judging by some of the previous reviews must be extremely heavy handed, used a hammer, purchased a different product, (Mine were packaged by BCB), or had no idea how they work. Admittedly, there are no instructions provided – but a tin opener is hardly rocket science.

Works fine ,i gave one to daughter and confused the hell out of her but once shown how it works carried on the removal ,we keep it in our trailer tent on a string in a seat it wouldnt be the first time we have gone camping without one and had to fork out for another butterfly opener !

Having used this type of can opener many yrs back now, I can say that they are ideal if back packing, holidays. Caravanning etc. They would not be suitable for continuous daily use but are great for occasional weekly use. One of mine I’ve had for 25+ yrs.

    Err two words… ringpull cans..

They work well they really do I pop an alastic
Ban around the pointy bit to stop it sticking in my leg when in pocket as the opener bit swivels handy but not often used as ring pull cans are pretty much everywhere nowadays

Used these in the army, if you haven’t got a normal can opener these are the next best thing, once you get the hang of it, strong and pierced the can well, the rest was down to me. Handy little gadget to have on you in case of emergencies and for any outdoors survivalist, this is a must have

These little can openers are sturdy enough and there are no sharp edges – except for the ones meant to be there so they will go into my backpacking gear ready for when I find a shop and want to eat something other than a ‘just-add-water’ meal! And they’re always handy to have in case my ‘home’ tin opener fails.
They are a little fiddly to use and there is a knack to opening a can quickly but they certainly work and should go on working virtually forever.

First saw one of these in the late 1950’s, when it was given to my brother my an American Serviceman. That one worked just fine and was easy to keep on a key ring. Not seen them until I bought two on Amazon. Still work just fine and great to have for an emergency if out camping. Need strong thumb and forefinger to operate but not difficult once you get the knack.

I find these so much more easier to use than regular can openers. The metal on these can openers are a little thinner than ones I’ve had in the past. Hopefully this won’t be a problem and the can opener will last for quite a while without bending or snapping. Overall pretty happy with it!

I’m not sure I read the sales blurb correctly but there are two in a pack. I ordered two packs….. I must be getting old lol. They do the job they were bought for and take up very little room in my work bag, so I’m a satisfied customer.

There’s not a lot to say about these really. They are pretty much identical to the ones I used to use when I wore green trousers. In fact I still have one with a crows’ foot and N.S.N. Personally, I think they are reasonably easy to use compared with some on multi-tools and I keep one in my tackle box. The only snag with all of these, even the military ones, is the cutter won’t stay folded. They are not equipped to do that, which can be painful in the pocket. They are extremely light in weight and far better to lug around than a full sized can opener in case your meal or can of fish bait hasn’t got a ring pull.

As others have said, this is definitely NOT military quality, but for a very easy (emergency) can opener to use when your usual one fails, or you lose the key to a can of Corned Dog, it is simple to use. It won’t last very long, but you wouldn’t be using it under field conditions for weeks on end anyway. Pack of two. OK to stow in your bergan. Good value.

As mentioned in other posts not same as original military can openers you used to get in ration packs. Saying that they work but one has bent already. Cheap so a good back up.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis tin opener is simple, basic and does the job, it opens tins very effectively, large tins, small tins, and type of tins. On one of the straight sides I tend to grind and sharpen it into a sharp blade for cutting string etc, very useful on my keyring and gives the opener an extra benefit. The opener is strong and sturdy and will last years and years. My last one cost me “pence in a camping supplies shop and lasted me 20 years until I just lost it, it still had not worn out. Buy this item you cant go wrong.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI purchased these after seeing a friend of mine use his army one to open a can with relative ease, he went on to tell me that after trying various can openers with moderate success he eventually decided to go back to using the one he got while in the army. I thought they were great and ordered 2 packs from different suppliers for my wife who is a scout leader. She thinks these things are awesome and has loved using them and letting the scouts use them too.

The packaging is simple but effective and contains two of these per pack, each one is a can and bottle opener compact, lightweight and strong. An awesome little device that is so simple in its design. My wife has shared these with her scout groups and has had no problems using them when out and about.

Using one of these is easier than you would think…

1st. ensure that the cutting point is at its 95-degree position (not it’s folded position).
2nd If you are right-handed then hold in the right hand by the flat long section, with the cutting point pointing downward and away from yourself.
3rd Hook the edge of the can through the circular notch on the flat long section next to the cutting edge.
4th Hold the can in the left hand.
5th The right hand is then rotated clockwise puncturing the can lid.
6th Rotate the can counter clockwise in your left hand, while rotating the right hand alternatively counterclockwise and clockwise, until you have cut the can almost 360 degrees.
7th The lid of the can, can now be opened using the last remaining part of the can lid as a hinge.
8th Lift the can lid with the cutting edge to prevent accidentally cutting yourself.
9th Wipe clean your can opener
10th Rotate the cutting point back to its stowed, folded position.
11th Put it back in a safe place until next time.

NOTE: If you are a left-handed user then simply hold it in your left hand, and reverse the instructions above.

It takes about 36 to 42 cuts using this method, and it gets easier with practice.

    Pros
    Compact
    Easy to carry
Small enough to have a couple of spares (just in case)
Simple to use with practice and know how
    Cheap to buy
    Great survival tool

    Cons
Not quiet as tough as my friends army issued one, but still very effective

Definitely worth a try at this price.
