I’ve been through dozens of can openers over the space of the last 3-4 years and they all either don’t cut or rust/seize up. For ages ive heard everyone say Brabantia or OXO Good Grips are the way forward for can openers and i can definitely say the Brabantia is living up to its reputation.
It’s opened every can ive thrown at it so far with little effort. It cuts cleanly and effortlessly and fits in the hand well and turns with minimal effort.
The tin opener is well constructed and easy to use-nice and light. I haven’t given it 5 stars as I have only used it for a couple of months and I want to see if it lasts ,so far no problems and very happy with it.
I was really fed up with badly designed openers that only lasted a couple of months so bought this one. It is brilliant, easy to hold and turn, no sharp edges. I have had it a couple of months now and it is still like new. It really is worth the extra money
Great tin opener! Grips well, turns easily and cuts perfectly – great for my arthritic fingers. Wanted a tin opener that could be operated with tuna tins for draining. Perfect!
These little whippersnappers open tins like lightning! I had hitherto opened my tins of, for example, “baked beans” using the hammer technique favoured by the early “canned goods” adopters of the Klondyke Gold Rush, by wacking the tin very hard with a hammer against a rock. Needless to say, as age creeps upon me (I’m 72) I needed to find a less strenuous (and less messy) method of accessing the foodstuffs.
These are just the job!
Easy to use tin opener which in my opinion opens the tin in the safest way by not leaving the can part with a razor sharp edge. The bottle opener isn’t the best but that’s not why I bought it.
Not sure why but the first time I used these, I completely messed up. The second time, it cut my can straight and sharp. It can be pretty dangerous as the cut to cans it really sharp so be careful when using.
This can opener was bought at the same time as the a cheaper version which looked similar but in use the Brabantia can opener is far superior. It’s sharp and smoothly opens the can. Although it’s dishwasher safe I will wash it by hand to keep it in good condition.
Got cans? Need them opening?
This is the Brabantia Tasty+ Can / Bottle Opener, in dark grey made of plastic / steel and measuring 5.79 x 7.7 x 19.1cm.
The last tin opener I had by this brand lasted 6 years, they are guaranteed for 5. Look no further, for less than a tenner it is a no brainer.
Well made, opens cans with ease and has the added feature of bottle openers and is dishwasher safe.
Just buy it!
Well recommended.
It is worth paying extra for a really good tin opener. I occasionally have a Fray Bentos pie and this is the only tin opener that can take the lid off without any effort. It also tackles a corned beef tin when the key breaks!
Easy to use, leaves no sharp edges.
The original one I brought had a manufacturing fault, the geared wheel, where stamped to spindle, was cracked and it broke into bits. They sent a replacement and this had visible cracks and so I contacted customer service again and finally replaced with a good one. Had to choose a different finish as they said it looked like a batch wide problem.
The third one was perfect and still as good as when new, approximately one year late
Yes it does.
I have struggled for years with various can openers to foil the lid of the notorious Fray Bentos Steak & Kidney Pie.
I used to end up with a sharp knife after having failed to open the dreaded can. It used to take me a minimum of
3 / 5 minutes.
No more…this can opener does it straight away, first attempt.
It does of course cleanly take the lids of other items….It’s grea
I don’t know what it is these days about tin openers and why they have to be made in a way that requires extreme manual dexterity to operate them. I had to return yet another one to a store only 2 days ago for this reason. But not this one! It is great. I got it yesterday and was able to open a tin straightaway without any reference to manual or diagram. Well done Brabantia
I could not be more happy with this product. Really good buy. My old one was of very poor quality although it cost me 6 pounds and I suffered it for several months until it finally was broken. This one, from the first use was like music to me. It is really easy to open any tin without effort. I have back problems, so avoiding to make efforts is really important to me. Maybe it is more expensive than other tin openers but it is worth it and It has a 5 year guarantee. I highly recommend.
We’ve been using this opener for over a month now and it’s the smoothest, easiest to use tip opener we’ve ever had. I just hope it also proves to be long lasting.
Addition: I submitted the above on 30 December 2018. It’s now May 2022 and the tin opener is as smooth now as it was then.
I nearly bought a battery operated can opener with average reviews for three times the money. In a rare fit of sanity I bought this. It opens cans – its easy, it’s quick. You do need some strength in your hands to clamp it and turn the handle, so if you have arthritis or similar this may not be for you, but otherwise – job done!
Bought 2 of these to replace a previous one which broke, so hope these last a bit longer. When working – the best tin opener I have used, bought on the recommendation of a TV programme for opening Fray Bentos pies but we needed one for opening ring pull cans that break and it works fine for them. We put it in the dishwasher so it is easy to clean that way, would be more fiddly by hand.
Never had anything other than the basic tin opener so was interested to see whether ir was blunt better. My lads always complain that the other tin opener does not work – operator error was the problem. This works really well and no complaints from anyone in the house so a really bonus. Easy and smooth to use and bright red so easy to spot in the kitchen drawer – would recommend to anyone
Not 100% perfect, but not enough to lose any stars either, the Brabantia opener is one of two can openers we have recently ordered.
Our older opener, unbranded, but with chubby black handles and aluminium detailing, has been utterly fabulous for the many years we’ve used it. This no-name opener has lasted a couple of decades but at last the wear on the teeth reached the point where it was no longer able to work well, and it’s now a Can’t Opener. It is a top-opener rather than the type that cuts from the side, so we wanted the same type and the choice came down to this Brabantia (a known good make in our household) and the Chinese-made SUPRENT Can Opener that resembles our gone-but-not-forgotten unbranded one. The Suprent has good reviews and a similar grip system to our old one, and in the end we thought we’d just get them both. We flirted with the idea of one with a magnet to help lift out a lid once it is free, but don’t really care so much about that.
The Brabantia opener works really nicely and, being quite new, is even better than the older Brabantia one used by a relative that is still going strong (and which persuaded us about the brand).
If you have smaller hands, the narrowish grips on this opener will allow you to apply a decent amount of pressure to close the opener on the can and keep it there, and the handle is very comfortable to use. That said, I personally prefer the feel of the Suprent, which when closed feels as though you’re holding a smoothish pebble in your hand rather than a linear grip such as on this Brabantia. The Suprent also has a nice smooth turning handle which is fine until you have powder or liquid on your hands, when the thinner handle of the Brabantia really scores.
I think this is a good opener and, based on the longer term use of similar Brabantia openers by friends and relatives, I reckon it’ll be here for the longer term and I’ve no doubt I’ll be using this and the Suprent opener interchangeably. They all work on similar principles so it is build quality and the resulting durability that counts, and that comes down to the teeth mechanism and how well that wears over the course of time. And… since we have a black and grey kitchen with either black or red accessories, this’ll fit right in!
