ALREADY BEEN USING ONE FOR YEARS, SO I KNEW IT WAS A GOOD CHOICE. OLD ONE STILL WORKS BUT I THOUGHT BEST TO HAVE A NEW ONE AS A BACKUP FOR TRAVELLING.
Head protector is excellent and easy to use. The foil cuts short hairs well. There is no cutter bar so long hairs will need to be trimmed by a Bic razor or similar initially.
Bought yesterday for 15.99.today it is now selling for 19.99, go figure.
The reason I mention this is I doubt I would have bought it at the higher price.
Anyway, I have had a number of these over the years (been making them for decades) and they do the job as a travel, or spare razor.
For me it fits perfectly in the side pocket of my soap bag, can be used wet or dry and the swivel cover/ handle gives a good grip and keeps the razor safe from damage. Performance wise it does a good enough job, giving a decently close shave and remember you can use it for wet shaving too. This model does not have the side trimmer, which is no great loss.
Spare blade/foil sets are reasonably priced.
All in all, a good travel razor if you get it at the right price.
Does the job if you keep on top of it, once the hair goes past stubble length it struggles to cut though. Decent for the price but I’m sure there’s better out there for a little more.
As a budget shaver for work, the gym or holidays, this is ideal. You can use it in the shower, and rinse it under the tap.
But…. that’s not the best bit. I can quite honestly say that the shave quality is as good as my other shaver which cost 5x as much.
This is the 2nd one I have owned (after more than a decade of use – and only needed due to a battery leak)
For the money, you just can’t go wrong with this shaver.
On my second one of these. As it says its fully waterproof and argos advertise it as wet and dry, thats how I use it everyday. With prorasso shaving cream I find it gets almost as close as a conventional wet shave. Never had any problems. When finished, just add a little liquid soap and let it run and froth up, then remove head and rinse under tap. Always comes out spotless. At this price you can bin it every 12 months and still works out cheaper than an expensive model. I bought some rechargeable lithium aa batteries as they put out 1.5 volts the same as normal batteries only for much longer at peak voltage. Normal rechargeables only manage 1.2 volts.
Bought this to save money on Gilette Mach 3 blades.
For me, it shaves as close as the Mach 3 blades. I haven’t had any nicks or chafing.
It’s a great piece of design.
Nice to hold.
I like the translucent blue shell.
The foil head is protected by a rotating shield which has a dual function in that it prevents the shaver from being switched on by accident.
It comes with a small cleaning brush which has a neat storage recess on the bottom of the shaver.
The foil head lifts off easily for cleaning and replacement. [Generic replacement heads are available on auction sites for about 3.50, or a genuine Braun one is about 10 here on Amazon.]
Can’t say how long the batteries will last as I’ve only had it a couple of days but it takes two AAs and they’re easy to replace.
Highly recommended.
These use two AA batteries, so will only be as good as your battery charge. Assuming you use good batteries it is a very good razor; particularly for travel, although I also use one for everyday. Easy to clean. Replacement cutter & foil are readily available but ensure you buy the genuine versions, the generic versions are a bit hit & miss.
I have an old travel Braun which has sideburn clippers. Unfortunately the one I bought does not have the trimmer so if you want it go up a model.
This new razor is easy to use and gives a pretty good shave. For really close I use a wet razor and shaving brush but during the week the Braun.
Cuts well and doesn’t snag the skin.
Easy to clean, but you need to do it once a week to stop the blade clogging up too much.
Can leave the occasional long hair on neck.
Supplied with a couple of Duracell batteries.
This is the third unit I have had. The first was bought as a father’s Day gift by my daughter. It and the second one I bought have been excellent. It was cheaper to buy the unit than a replacement head. I cannot believe how good they have been. Fair enough I have a tough hair growth but they give me an excellent shave. I have had various electrical shavers and they have not been a patch on this battery one. The third seems as good
Fantastic little shaver ! Battery operated which makes it great for on the gin! Really cuts close as my husband uses it to shave his head too ! He bought this when it first came out many years back and it has really preformed well over the years . But as with shavers over the years the foil needs replacing but the cost of them is expensive. So why not just buy another shaver ! That’s what I did ! It was a great valentines gift for him ! Very much recommend this !
Good when used everyday, but leave the stubble for a few days and it will struggle to catch all the hairs. However this is usual for these “single foil” designs (i remember this from my first such shaver in the ’80s).
Compact and easy take with on travels.
Battery life is good, many shaves from a set of (decent brand) AA.
The replacement foils and cutters are ridiculously expensive so it’s cheaper to buy a new razor every time. The shave is excellent especially when new. It’s a pity replacement foils/cutters are so expensive as if it’s used regularly you’ll find that you start getting nicks and cuts when using it as the foil wears thin. Gives an excellent shave though the lack of sideburn trimmers means that dealing with longer bristles you’ve missed for a couple of days is almost impossible with this razor. Light and easy to carry, plus you can rinse it under the tap. It’s ideal for travelling, though I actually use it as my day to day shaver with rechargeable batteries.
Excellent design, cuts closer than most other shavers even expensive Braun shavers, used every day batteries last over 2 weeks and shaver over 3 years, this is my 4th one, the screen guard acts as the lock so you can’t turn it on by mistake, takes 2 AA batteries, works on rechargeables too. not too noisy either. Not ideal if you don’t shave every day or have long hairs. never nicks you as some shavers can (especially rotary shavers). You can’t get any cheaper than this either. works better than any others I have tried above your top lip. I bought one of these and a philishave and panasonic travel shavers for comparison and would pick the braun every time. Its a bit slower than a 5 series Braun but does shave closer but doesn’t handle long hairs as well.
The performance of this little shaver is really quite good given the price and the fact it is battery powered.
Clearly it’s not going to give the same performance as a more expensive rechargeable shaver, but it has enough power for my medium thickness beard.
I usually use a Braun series 3, so I can’t help but to compare it with that.
The price is very low for a Braun shaver and you could use this for a year or so and not be too upset if it broke.
I find it fun to use, I like the sound it makes when clipping the hair. It’s easy to hear when it’s picking up and cutting and you can tell when that section is done properly.
The manual says it should last for 60 minutes on good quality alkaline batteries although I haven’t tested this. It’s going to be good for short breaks away.
My only dislike so far is that it’s a bit fiddly to clean. You do get a little brush that slides into the bottom of the unit but getting access to all the parts the debris collects is not entirely possible so it’s a case of doing the best you can. The cutting head spins after you have removed the foil though which makes it easier, and you can rinse it under running water.
I do find it messier in comparison to my series 3 in that a lot of debris falls out and collects on the edges of the foil and on the shaver itself, and also on the bathroom surfaces. It’s just a minor point though.
Overall I’m very pleased with my purchase. You could easily use this as your everyday shaver if you wanted.
This is a 10 travel shaver… and it’s exactly that. The build quality and feel, is more than i was expecting, but Braun is a good make and it shows… so maybe i should have expected it to be as good as it is… but it’s 10…. could go round all day with this one.
It lives up to exactly what i was expecting, but to be honest does not live up to the reviews which say it’s an amazing shaver, and almost on a par with a full on Bruan shaver. So in a funny way i was disappointed, but not at Braun as they never say its a great shave…
It’s only a single foil, and it’s powered by a battery… i never expected it to give me the best shave ever, but it does give you a good enough shave to warrant putting in an overnight bag…
For the price this is really good value.. I chuck it in my overnight bag knowing i can have a quick trim if needed…
A good little shaver that was well worth the money. I was a little apprehensive that it might be cheaply made or not shave tricky to manage stubble, but I needn’t have worried. It’s easy to use with a slot at the bottom for two AA batteries, and it comes with a small brush that also slots into the bottom for cleaning. Simply rotate the protective cover 180 degrees and then push up on the button in the middle to begin shaving. I normally have a wet shave and bought this just to cover the mustache area, but I find myself using it afterwards as well as it offers a closer shave than disposable razors. Covers medium stubble length after a couple of days growth with no issues.
I got this to replace one of some shavers that were given away with Duracell batteries many years ago, and which were finally wearing out.
This is better made, with solid construction and a positive action, both in its switch and in the way the protective cover clicks into place.
You might need to buy the next model up if you need a trimmer for long hair, but the ones on shavers are never that wonderful, so I don’t see it as a serious shortcoming that I have to reach for a separate device to trim sideburns.
All in all, and excellent shaver, for less than the cost of replacing foil and cutter on a mains shaver. It works fine on rechargeable batteries, but isn’t voracious in its power consumption, so even alkaline batteries are affordable.
I only purchased a replacement foil + cutter for a Remington portable shaver around six months ago and the foil has already worn through ! I’d used Remington’s own ‘Shaver Saver’ spray on the cutter and foil to try to prolong the life of them, but this didn’t seem to do a great deal to prevent wear ! So, whilst contemplating the purchase of new Remington foil pack, I happened to come across this Braun portable shaver at a price much less than a new Remington foil pack.
Other reviewers have mentioned it seems to take longer to shave with this shaver and I’d agree with this. If you miss a day shaving, then it’s best to have a backup shaver which is more capable at removing stubble or you’ll be literally ‘going round in circles’ on your face for quite a while !! You will still require another shaver/trimmer for side burn / other awkward little hairs etc. as this particular model isn’t equipped with a pop-out trimming cutter.
If you can live with the slowish cutting speed of this shaver, then it will get the job done and give a quite a smooth result. I have been using rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) AA 2700mAH batteries and find these will last over a month. It should be noted that these batteries will slow the cutters down even more than the Alkaline batteries provided, due to the lower 1.2 Volts compared with 1.5 Volts for a single Alkaline battery. It’s just more cost-effective using rechargeable batteries.
After cleaning, I’m applying a few drops of pure silicone oil (with the cutter running) every three or four days, to try to extend the life of the cutter/foil. Silicone oil is non-toxic and odourless. Only time will tell if this does work. It does seem to improve the cutting action just after an application due to the lubricating qualities of the oil.
The rotating, protective cover is a great idea. I’ve damaged a few exposed shaver foils in the past, so this may just save this foil from accidental knocks ! The cleaning brush sits in a small recess at the base of shaver and works quite effectively.
To sum up, great little shaver, has some limitations regarding cutting speed/time to complete a shave but for the price who can complain ? This shaver has been reduced to a very attractive price by Amazon from time-to-time. A price-tracker site, such as camelcamelcamel, might be helpful, especially if you don’t need this shaver urgently (set your desired price to less than 10 Pounds).
*** Edit 3-4-15 *** After just over 12 Months (daily usage) the cutter and foil are still performing well and aren’t showing any signs of wear. The addition of silicone oil really does seem to help in this respect.
I’ve bought and appreciated three of these units now. With the rugged life-on-the-go that I lead, they tend to last about a year before they just wear out and stop working. But then I’ve had similar trouble with other, much more expensive shavers before (I gave up on buying a 50+ shaver every year after too much darn unreliability!). So I figure the price is fine given the extreme portability of this shaver. It doesn’t give a great shave, but it’s adequate and it’s a tough little unit whose batteries last surprisingly long. Definitely a satisfied customer.
Braun PocketGo M60b MobileShave Portable Foil Shaver with SmartFoil
I can easily measure how long I’ve been using the Braun pocket shavers by the age of my children, as the first one I ever bought was on exiting the customs hall at Heathrow. At the time they were only 8. And whilst the price has changed, the quality and dependability has not.
First, I tend to take an economical approach (actually, I’m just cheap!) when it comes to buying things for myself. I never in my dreams could imagine paying 50-100 for a shaver. But I did make it a point to compare. What I like about Braun is the single foil which allows me to trim around my moustache and nose, which I can’t achieve with those multiple circular ‘floating’ blades.
I also made it a point to compare the similar but more expensive Braun shavers. Other than various permutations of ancillary features, such as a side-burn trimmer, there actually is NO difference in the product! The foil and cutting device on the M60 is no different than that on the M90 and the more expensive ones as well! (they ALL have ‘Smart’ foil!)
And whilst this one is not waterproof, I challenge anyone to say the Braun doesn’t excel far beyond those tiny little razors that are being advertised on late hour telly for ridiculous prices. I have a Braun in my car’s glove box, one in my desk drawer at my office, and one in my laptop bag.
Following the ensuing paranoia after September 11, I discovered that when stopping over in Tokyo enroute from London to Sydney, I could no longer obtain a razor to shave with when I take my showers in JAL’s First Class lounge. The staff directed me to the terminal’s electronic shop where I bought my second Braun. Since then I’ve never been without several.
Yes, the foil does wear thin after five-six months, which they’re expected to do. You can easily buy replacement foils, but my logic is why bother – a new one actually costs less than buying new foils.
Frankly, I’m hooked on these little things. I have a ceiling on price and refuse to buy them until I see them on offer for around a tenner. Fifteen years ago I was paying 8 for one. Now it’s circa 12 from Amazon with free delivery. But occasionally you can get them for even less!
If you’re a practical person as I am, I encourage you to give one a try. If you must buy by price, regardless of whether you’re getting value for money, you can get the very same razor in a posh box, with an electric lead, and adapters for around 100. But there are far more things I can spend the difference on!
And I should add, this nifty little razor comes with Duracell batteries and a functional little cleaning brush, conveniently fitted into the razor casing. Give it a try – you have nothing to lose other than a few errant whiskers!
Oh, and ladies, I’m told with excellent authority, they’re great for legs, arms and the nether-regions as well!
Excellent!
