Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersReversing a motorhome isn’t the easiest thing to do and my wife is my spotter and used various arm waving patterns in the past. The walkie talky is brilliant and has significantly reduced that moment of stress to just about zero. I have always heard her loud and clear and have my unit on the passenger seat. If I had to ask anything, I would stop and speak to her. I haven’t tried using them over any real distance, but they are worth buying just for helping when reversing.

These walkie-talkies have been extremely useful. We’ve used them on campsites where there has been no mobile signal yet we’ve let the kids play in the woods with their new friends. Now we don’t need to spend 30 mins finding them so they can come back and have their dinner…. we can use a radio to call them instead! We also used them at a festival, again with a very poor mobile signal, to communicate across quite a considerable distance.

Charging can take a few hours if you let them get completely flat but they do last a couple of days being on with decent amount of usage. They have a good clear signal and feel satisfyingly robust, and far more durable than another prominent make that appears on this site…. I had to return a competitor product as one failed after almost no usage!

A bonus is that the units even vibrate when they pick up a signal / call – very handy in a loud environment!

The instruction manual is actually very good – plenty of info and quite clear. Especially when it comes to detailing some of the more complex items like the privacy codes and other settings.

    Would definitely recommend.

These were bought for my children and they’ve been a big hit! So far, so good! We’ve been very pleased with the sound quality and they are also very easy to recharge.

We have not put the walkie talkie to the test properly yet, unfortunately, it is not very well laid out as far as the controls are concerned but so far it seems to be working fine.

Bought these so that my wife could guide me when reversing our fifth wheeler. Same she has two left hands. Batteries are rechargeable which should make life easier if you remember to do it. Easy to change volume and channels or eaves drop on other peoples conversations.
    Great value.

I have used these walkie talkies with the children in a few days out and they very much like them.
They are very simple to operate and my 5 years old son is confident enough to use them.
    There are not water proof.
The range is good but I have not tried any more than 1k in an open filed, sound volume and quality is acceptable
I explained to them how to say ” over and out” and they had great fun in the woods talking with each other.

If you haven’t seen it already search YouTube for “Brian Regan walkie talkie” – it’s a great sketch about the insanity of the US military naming this device.

In this age where we all have mobile phones the market for walkie talkies must be tiny. Unlike a mobile phone only one of you can talk at once, and you have a range limit. But there is a benefit that offsets the range limit – walkie talkies can be used pretty much anywhere. I guess there are some caves where they might not work so well, but you are not dependant upon having a mobile network to communicate. It’s a simple radio connection between the two people who are talking, particularly helpful for remote locations, and could be a lifesaver if you need emergency help.

Cobra have been around for a long time, and some oof their equipment like their professional CB radios and VHF marine radios are really good. These walkie talkies though are aimed at recreational users and are priced accordingly. Their plastic bodies and simple controls are of what you could describe as adequate quality. I suppose this means you won’t mourn them if you lose them, and you’d certainly feel comfortable letting children play with them.

Battery life is good, and the Micro-USB charging cable that is supplied that will charge both handsets simultaneously is very useful. It’s worth noting that no power adaptor is supplied though, so you will need to use the power supply from another device. I guess this helps keep prices down because you will almost certainly have a few spare power adaptors with a standard USB output, and it saves Cobra from having to build a different device and supply a different package in every marketplace around the world.

The supplied instructions are clear and simple, and supplied in quite an abundance of languages. Each sheet of instructions is in one specific language, which I prefer to the other method where you have a thick book of instructions where only a small fraction of it is relevant to you.

Firstly these are very small. I’ve had ones in the past and they have been considerably more chunky. Very neat with a large clip on the back, Extremely light also.
8 channels and up to 5km range . I haven’t tested to its max range but certainly over water it can be used clearly for at least 3 miles or so. No hills to get in the way. We found for fishing and letting the children out and about they could carry these and be in touch at any time, certainly without taking an expensive mobile phone with lightly hood of it getting busted. Very easy to use as buttons self explanatory. Very small set instruction but all you need. The biggest bonus is the batteries supplied are rechargeable. They come with a double USB leads. Only slight gripe is the batteries are very tight to insert because of the clip. But, you are only going to do this once.
Very clear speech as long as you don’t turn volume up to max, even then pretty good.

As entry-level Walkie Talkie’s this isn’t a bad set at all.

Easy to set up and operate (although the only way to use the internal rechargeable battery feature with the kit is through the usb cable provided) they live up to the billing as lightweight and easy to carry.

Reception is great in open areas, and obviously decreases in more enclosed areas. I wouldn’t like to rely on the 5km claims even in completely open areas but they do the job well enough. I’ve tried them in my local woodlands and there was a fair reception over perhaps half that distance.

I’d suspect the more serious user would want something with more bells and whistles and with longer range etc, but as a basic piece of kit this does the job very well
