I’ve just bought my latest Culinaire Easican tin opener to replace my previous one which was, admittedly, a copuple of years old. I imagined that a reputable company which believed in the quality of its products woul have granted an extensive guarantee so you can image my disappointment at reading on the Culinaire website that “We are confident that our products are manufactured to the highest quality and so we offer a 1-year guarantee on all Culinare products.”
So, enjoy your purchase while you can (no pun intended) but you can expect to be shelling out for a another replacement in little over 12 months – The cutting wheel soon goes blunt and worn so that it no longer cuts into the metal can at all.
I live in a household of two lefties and two righties, so we have had numerous ambidextrous can openers! This is easily the best. The last one we had was terrible so I was so thrilled with this one which was great value for money, easy to use and really efficient.
Almost got a divorce trying to open a can a beans with this new tin opener, we could not figure out how to work it, lol.
After looking on YouTube video we finally manage to open it, it’s easy when you know how.
I have tried a number of can openers over the last few years, and did not think that I would be so pleased with one that I would write a review. From an old fashion type all metal one, through to an expensive electric one that either did not start removing the lid, or would not stop (cutting my thumb as I tried to get the lid out of its still rotating jaws!). This Culinare opener is excellent, easy to use and very little pressure needed to operate it, I might buy another to keep as a spare.
I’ve been through around 6 tin openers in recent years. I kid you not, they don’t actually work! This is called process. I read the reviews on this and on the basis that I didn’t want to spend a fortune this came out tops. It’s one of the type that takes the whole lid off, an idea I’ve always been curious about. Why would you want to create a danger by this method where the ones that take only the inner part of the lid off are safer?
It can be a little tough to turn the lever but it’s my only criticism.
Very pleased with my purchase!
These can openers cut on the side of the tin instead of the top, you need to be aware of this as if the contents of the tin are very sloppy some may spill out when you open the tin. I had a similar product years ago, the writing on the handle says WILLIAM LAVENE LTD 1995 REG DES, exactly like my old one that eventually wore out. If this new one lasts as long I will be very happy. The handles are a decent length unlike the cheaper version from Culinare which did not work properly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
PS it does not leave very sharp edges on the tin or lid, so little risk of being cu
Fantastic opener. Less than half the weight and bulk of our old one. Incredibly simple to use. I cannot for the life of me work out how some people say it’s difficult to use. Bizarre. Take it off the card, open it, clip on and turn the knob. Easier opener ever! Takes up less room that most as well and cheap as chips!
I used one of these can openers when on a self-catering holiday and it was so good I wanted one for myself.
It is a pleasure to use and built to last. All can openers should be made like this.
At first, I kept using the can-opener wrong and wasn’t able to open any tins. But, after several attempts and realising that I’d been using it wrong, this can-opener is a breeze to use. It’s the most easy-to-use manual can opener I’ve ever had. Definitely purchase if you’re after ease of use with no hassle.
The best can opener I’ve tried. Bought to replace same that had lasted years.
A real can-do attitude.
Does exactly what it says on the tin.
If it wasn’t for this device, I would never have tried tinned potatoes; don’t poo poo til you’ve tried them I tell ya.
If your left handed its hard to find a can opener that work well with you, this is the best one i have ever found to the point that I ordered for my bestie who is also left handed.
Purchased from Amazon Warehouse (as a used item in a new condition) and it was immaculate – still in the original packaging – although it had been opened it was enclosed in a sealed bag. Easy to use opener and does job intended for easily. Good quality and appears very sturdy.
I do have a battery operated can opener as my hands lack a great deal of strength. However not all cans will open this way – the battery operated opener just gets into a complete mess with some of them…..but not this one. It works every time and considering the problem with not having a good grip in my hands I do find this one easy to use. I do find it the best of manual openers and I have tried plenty. Also useful when the battery gives up in the other one. I definitely recommend.
I had no idea they made can openers like this. I saw it as one of the cheaper ones and so thought I’d give it a go based on reviews.
It is very easy to use! Just open it up, put it on the can, close the opener and twist the lid clean off. Take the lid to the bin, open the can opener and drop the lid in the bin.
No mess, no fuss. Works great.
A great and well designed can’t open it. Is ergonomic in its design on them with a big turning handle on the top means that can be used with little effort.
Note: As shown in the pictures it sits on top of the can unlike the side like other conventional ones, which means it takes the top of the can off.
The advantage of this is that it means that the lid removed is not sharp around the edges.
A nice size for easy storage and lightweight.

Over & out!
This is one of several Culinare Easican can openers that I have owned over the years, but is the best by far. Previous model became very stiff to open and close over time and I ended up having to bin it. No such problems with this model though. An excellent can opener !
This is the best tin opener I have ever used. It is sturdy and feels as if it will last a long time. It cuts the tin open without leaving any metal filings in the food or around the tin. It is easy to operate and doesn’t require much pressure to turn the handle. Simple design that is easy to wash. I was so pleased with it when I tried it out I felt confident to buy another one straight away so that I will be well equipped for years to come.
It works well, cuts the lid off properly and doesn’t let it drop in the tin due to the magnet . simple design yet works a lot better than most . it does feel fairly lightweight material and probably will not last years and years but I wouldn’t say it’s particularly poor quality . I would buy this again.
Previously I owned a Culinare Magican Opener, which worked really well for a couple of years but then I went to use it one day and the handle was turning but the can was not! Looking at reviews for that product now I see that I am not the only person who has had this problem, but it lasted a lot longer for me than others. I was in the middle of preparing food and desperate to get the tin open, so I got the angle grinder out and knew there had to be a better and safer way! I decided it was time to part company with the old can opener and welcome a new tool to the household.
I thought the task of searching for a good quality tin opener at a reasonable price would be easy on Amazon. As soon as I started looking however, it became apparent that I was naive. Either the price was extortionate or the reviews were damning.
After looking through every single page I decided to purchase this one. When it arrived, I could partly understand why someone was concerned that it might break (though the photograph makes it look far more fragile than it appears in actuality), but after using it daily since purchase I know that I can rely on this to do the job.
When you put it onto the can and clamp the handles together, you can trust that it is going to hold on to the edge of the can without applying any pressure (you only need to hold the handles to steady the process). The handle for turning is very large, which makes it must easier to use (considering the principle of leverage).
This is a joy to use compared to those old fashioned can openers, which are about as ergonomic to hold on the handle and lever as the serrated edge of a cheese grater (digging into your hand, and making your hand ache by having to apply hard constant pressure).
I would imagine that this would be suitable for individuals who would otherwise struggle, for example, potentially those who have arthritis or cerebral palsy (although obviously this depend on severity and it hasn’t been designed for this purpose specifically).
If you too are worried about the lesser starred reviews, don’t be! Buy this without hesitation and start opening cans with ease.
This is the type of can opener that cuts the body of the tin, as opposed to the end plate. It does this without difficulty, as do many others such . You should first peel the paper label off the tin. A quick blast of boiling water cleans the mechanism. The two common failings of can openers like this only emerge in the course of time: sudden plastic fatigue, and inability to deal to deal with awkwardly shaped or defective cans. For the time being this one passes these tests, but you should not be without your old butterfly-wing stalwart, or even the fish-gutter type of opener. No freshly opened tin is without danger to unwary fingers, so view any safety guarantees with scepticism. Others have found it cheaper elsewhere, but you should check that it isn’t a brand pirate – this is where the plastic will certainly let you down.
