If you struggle with a standard tin opener this is fantastic. It is quite noisy but otherwise it is perfect. It leaves the tin edges safe . The lid is held by a magnet until you are ready to remove it. So it doesn’t fall onto the floor.
I’ve had an operation on my wrist and can’t use a normal can opener so I opted for this one. It’s excellent, one push of the button and it takes the lid off another press of the button and it turns off so it does the job well.
Got this to replace the old one which was the same make but different model and its not has good the old one you just put it on and it removed the lid this one you cant let go of i
does all it says on the lable. very pleased with operation of unit. One drawback>does not automaticaly swith off after removal of lid.All in all a very good product.
I’ve tried to use it twice and I can’t get it to work, put new batteries in and it works great now .love it ,so easy now to open a ca
After struggling various types of can openers this is so much better. Really easy to use, just let it do its thing. Probably not a good idea to try it on cans with any dents etc on the rim but otherwise it’s the way to go.
Love it. My wrists are weak and I was finding other openers hard to use. You put it on the tin, press the button and stand back until it gets round. Turn it off and wait until it disengaged. Voila tin open.
Bought this after reviewing several other tin openers, I tried it and it is amazing just set it on the edge of the tin with the main body across the tin top and press the blue button and off it goes I love it. Would have given it 5* only for the fact once it cuts the lid it does not stop and it takes several attempts pressing the blue button to stop it. But I can live with that it is such a good tin opener.
I have arthritis in both hands and was having real trouble opening cans, this can opener is so easy to use making life so much easier when I do have to open a can. I would advise anyone who has arthritis in their hands to buy this opener.
This is a great little gadget that really works. I have arthritis in my thumbs so using a conventional tin opener was painful and difficult. This is so simple to use and doesn’t leave a sharp edge to the opened can. Good value for money, highly recommended
It works okay but doesn’t always respond to the first press of the stop/start button. Dropped the cut lid on the floor a couple of times trying to stop it whizzing round with the lid attached.
When starting or stopping the unit seems to misinterpret the length of the button push as cancelling the desired action. Probably be able to get used to it over time but not quite as intuitive as my original automated one from one touch about 10 years ago.
Can’t comment about overall reliability as I’ve only had it a few weeks but so far has done the job well.
The design to have the battery compartment accessible from the top is a great improvement from the previous automatic model which met its demise due to a low battery and the inability to remove it from the can it was trying to open without damaging the gearing.
I’ve only opened on tin and it struggled with a thicker tin can. Nevertheless, it did open the can and the magnet is a real bonus to avoid sharp edges. I’m sure it will work fine on standard tins.
Nothing fundamentally wrong with this can opener, I think the instructions could be clearer because you simply put the opener on the can, press the button to start the process and then leave it alone to do it’s thing. The opener moves around the can, whereas if you’ve used a mains powered one previously you expect to hold the can opener and for the can to move.
Anyway, when you do it right it works very well. The start/stop button isn’t always the most responsive but it does work.
UPDATED REVIEW STARTS HERE:- After 150 days service opening at least one sometimes two cans per day my Culinaire finally opened its 150th plus can on the same two Energizer AA batteries, I think this is incredible and for a high battery drain product and puts in perspective, two things, (1) just how good the Culinaire can opener is and (2) a tribute to the Energizer batteries. Totally Remarkable performance. One set of batteries 150 cans- all shapes and sizes.
ORIGINAL REVIEW STARTED HERE:- When my faithful Russell Hobbs Gizmo quit on me after many years I was in a crisis only being able to use one arm.
I looked at the Kitchen Mama, BangRui and JML hands free brands on Amazon along with their reviews and am deeply grateful to the Amazon community for replying my ‘Ask a question’ which I posted against each one. I settled on the Culinaire as was familiar with quality engineering and styling with this brand already.
I have had it for 45 days and have opened at least one can per day and often two; so it has opened at least 50+ cans and this on using some Energizer batteries bought back in 2018. These same batteries have still got the power to cut through tin after tin; the engineering of the cutter and gear wheel must be fully maximised to function against battery drain and is power-wise, very, very impressive. The Culinaire is easy to settle on a tin with the blade below the tin lid rim, then just press the button and the Culinaire self rights itself and gets cutting. When it has done a full circle press the button again. The motor runs on for approx. 4 seconds as a safety feature to withdraw the cutting blade safely. DO NOT WORRY IT DOES STOP BUT NOT STRAIGHT AWAY! It has also done both ends of a rectangular corned beef tin, no problem.
An efficient magnetic allows for lifting away of the tin lid. I have not had a problem with sharp edges. The Culinaire cutter cuts the lid away at approx 1.5-2mm below the lid rim so when removed there is an upstanding of cut metal around the circumference of the lid and of course the exposed can edge. One would not give these to the kids to play with but with daily good kitchen practice, are decidedly not dangerous. As the Culinaire works at this level just under the lid rim it cuts a thin ring of the paper label too which is not hard to miss and easily removed as the Culinaire works around. This hands free can opener is kitchen magic itself! and a big thanks to the Amazon Community for answering my ‘ask a questions’ and helping me to choose the right one. I’m here now to positively represent this brilliant can opener as has been a life saver to me.
