I bought this from the recommendation of my college that teaches enlgish copperplate calligraphy and I can see why now as it has served me well over the last couple of weeks. Will recommend and probably purchase again. Thanks
This comes recommended by my course tutor, as we use marker pens for design projects.
Sheer paper, 50-75gsm is what is needed for markers, not 150-200gsm which absorbs all of the ink from your markers and bleeds.
Good quality pad, good, reputable name, does the job. Suitable for presentation work and layering for deeper tones.
A great quality pad of Bristol board sheets. The surface finish is 2nd to none. Unfortunately, the material isn’t too marvellous for use with acrylic paints and is probably better for watercolour or pens.
I bought this paper to use when bible journaling and I’m very pleased with it.
Even though I am careful what pens I use in my bible, sometimes they still leave considerable shadowing on the other side of the page. I now cover shadowing with a piece of this paper when I want to draw or write on that page. Alternatively, I do artwork directly on this paper and glue it into my journaling bible margin. I now keep a few sheets already cut into the right size in my journaling bible.
This paper isn’t quite as thin and sheer as bible pages, but it is very, very thin paper. Given how thin It is, I’ve found the paper to be quite strong. (It withstood my little boy’s pencil when he borrowed some). It’s very smooth paper and feels very nice to draw on.
It isn’t as sheer as tracing paper, but dark images can be seen through the sheets without a light box. If using a lightbox, this paper allows even pencil lines to be seen and traced.
Bought as a birthday gift for my daughter-in-law. She uses these for her work and leisure, just has to avoid my five year old granddaughter from trying to get her hands on them.
Arrived on time and well packaged.
Bought for my daughter for her Uni Art course.
Recommended by her tutor, this layout pad is extremely good quality.
80 landscape pages which are easy to remove from the pad if needed.
High quality paper which is nice and smooth to work on but not so thin it rips or damages.
Great for final preparation work.
5*
Thank you.
Really nice paper. I have been using this with a dip pen for calligraphy practice and there is no bleed through or feathering of the ink. The paper is thin enough that you can see guide lines through it to keep you on track.
Can’t say a bad thing about it. Highly recommend.
Love this paper and have bought again in A3. Can use sharpies and other inks without is bleeding across the page and they blend really well. Paper is a good thickness but will need safety paper underneath when using heavier inks.
This is a very good layout pad. It takes a lot of punishment erasing, etc, but thin enough for sketching and tracing( lightbox needed for detailed tracing ).Very good paper for initial roughs and as an illustrator, I have been using it for years. Also comes in A3 & A2. Good quality, good price.
Just the right paper for drafting sketches so you can see through the layer below to produce a cleaner sketch above. The paper is smooth & bright white and fineliners work well on it without bleeding.
A well reputable make of Artist and Designer products that I have used over the years so to see they now make layout pads are even better. The quality of this pad is second to none and I wanted a smaller pad to continue to use to jot down my designs and idea’s on the go rather than the traditional A3 size. Perfect for pantone markers and other substitute pens.
Sometimes you only get what you pay for and this layout paper is lovely to use. I can see why Johanna Basford recommends it! I will definitely buy this paper again 🙂
Paper feels high quality and is thin enough to see through for tracing your designs. I start layout pads from the back of the book and work forward, so you can use the next page to trace without tearing pages out.
Tearing sheets out the pad works well too though, hasn’t ripped or damaged any pages yet.
My only issue is with the use of my ProMarkers.
I use Letraset/Winsor & Newton markers (alcohol based) and have found the although there is minimal bleeding (the ink doesn’t spread far from the point you apply it on the page), the ink does in fact leak through to the page below, and the page below that, and the page below that, and a little onto the page below that..
In total, I’ve had the ink leak through onto 4 pages not including the page you drew on in the first place.
It’s an easy enough problem to solve though, I always have a plain piece of printer paper below the page while I’m rendering that will soak up any bleed through or ink leaking.
I know there are pads you can buy where the markers won’t bleed through, this isn’t one of those, but it’s cheap and I’m more than happy with it.
Jennifer Basford uses this in her Learn to draw book and videos so thought would give it a go. Its very fine paper but good for drawing on and coloured pencils blend well on it too. Its very thin so the corners curl up if you do not clip it down when you are using it.
This is the first time I’ve used Bristol board and I love it. It’s so good for markers and colour pencils. I was using super thin ‘marker paper’ for my markers before but that bled/spread and ripped so easily. There’s a little spreading with heavy marker application but it’s the best paper I’ve found so far and you can add a lot of ink onto the page without worrying that it’s about to rip. Also, being card it’s a lot sturdier.
I had struggled to find a good paper to use with coloured pencils. This Bristol Board was recommended and I am pleased with it. With other, standard papers, I can usually get 6 or 7 layers but with this paper I have manged to get 12. It is smooth but takes colour well and it is thick enough and strong enough to cope with the use of odourless mineral spirit for blending. It is also stiff enough to stay flat and withstand curling.
Purchased this to practice calligraphy. It is slightly thicker than I was expecting which is great but I can still see my guide sheet through it (which I was worried about as the guide printed off quite pale). All in all just what I wanted.
An excellent paper that is an alternative to tracing paper. I use this to practice calligraphy and the surface is smooth enough that it doesn’t catch on my nibs. Ink flows extremely well on this paper. No need for a lightbox as the paper is thin enough to see through it yet thick enough so that ink doesn’t bleed through.
Definitely my favourite brand of Bristol Board available in the UK. This Bristol has a whiter colour to it than its competitors which is very noticable if you have them side by side, a great smooth surface, and takes repeated erasing well. I use it for working with coloured pencil detail work, inks, art marker, and watercolour washes. Like any Bristol it will buckle under any heavy watercolour use but it will take a light wash without complaint. Would highly recommend this, particularly for anyone who works with art marker or inks since there’s very to no little bleed with this stuff.
I needed Bristol Board for inking some simple comics, this paper doesn’t bleed at all with me Staedtler Pigment Liners and is good for a mix of fine lines and thick lines even if they’re very close together.
The control this paper allows is unparalleled, especially at the price, which is about half that of similar Bristol Boards I’ve tried.
I can only say one small caveat, the paper isn’t as smooth as it could be (i.e. I’ve used smoother), so if you’re using it for very fine pencil work you should maybe look elsewhere.
As a graphite artist i absolutely love this paper, it’s smooth as a babies bum ! has the feeling of being quite thick but used with a back light it becomes remarkably transparent . Anyone who likes the bristol smooth paper will love this but it has the added feature of being totally white ! i’ve so far only worked on the A4 but i shall certainly be ordering a few of the A3 also from now on.
I got this specific pad on a recommendation from a very accomplished professional pencil artist, all I can say is WOW! It’s fantastic for recreating realistic pencil drawings, it blends and erases like a charm and is acid free so it wont discolour over time.
I ordered on monday and received it on saturday morning, it was packaged very well, I am completely satisfied.
Daler Rowney products are generally solid & reliable, and this is no exception.
The pad is exactly as described and is clearly a high quality product. The paper doesn’t bleed when used with Rotring technical pens and also gives great results when used with pencils. The tracing paper also gives excellent results when scanned (I was using some of this paper to create artwork based on several layers of scanned images).
Very pleased with my purchase & no hesitation in recommending to others.
