Good kit but one of the bolts, that go in the middle of the puller is too long for my Bongo, so I thought I could use one of the others. They are all different sizes. I had to make one to fit my Mazda Bongo. Wouldn’t it be better if they were interchangeable. Cheaper to produce one size and would make this kit useable for all cars and vans.
If you’re reading this I’m assuming you know about splitters etc.
Review – Negs.
Box is cheap plastic; the slider fasteners are a poor fit but hold the box closed.
When you open box it’s invariably the wrong way round and the moulds to hold the clamps in are just pockets so everything falls about!!
Review – Positives
Nothing of the above really impacts the contents – I’ve written on the box which way to open and, as I say the fasteners actually hold the lid to the box – albeit a poor fit
The splitters themselves are pretty solid bits of kit. They way a bit and clearly can do a job.
I bought these as I needed one the ball joint splitter and a set at 40 seemed better value than 15 for one – time will however tell if I ever use the others. I’ve a classic car and the inner tie (track), rod ends just wouldn’t budge despite plenty of lube and force – actually I was getting to the stage of thinking I’d missed something as there was no movement. So bought these. Using the larger splitter and attaching a suitable socket, within 15 seconds the tie rod had popped out! Unbelievable. So five stars from me – solid product and saved me a trip to the garage.
Advice for inner tie rods –
Securely chock vehicle up – you will be beneath it doing this job.
Wear safety glasses!
Soak the tie rods overnight if you can in “Creep” or other penetrating fluid.
WD40 the thread of the spindle before you use it – I read it helps with friction and pressure.
Tighten up the bolt of the splitter and then give it a few more turns – now, some say, bang the tie rod with a hammer or in my case I just tightened the splitter up again, waited and then the fifth or sixth turn of the socket it “popped” – and boy does it pop!
Happy to answer any questions as I appear to be the first reviewer (and no I’ve not received this product to test nor been contacted by anyone – this is a true reflection of my experience). Cheers All
