Had an Apple Watch and tried to use it for running which was an absolute waste of time. This watch does everything you need it to for running or exercise.
I’ve had this watch a couple of months and it is really great! Comfortable to wear, tracks a lot of different things which you can review on the app and has a great battery life! I charge my once a week if I’m just using it day to day and not tracking any running activities.
Bought this for general fitness tracking as well as use as a HRM for my Edge 530 as I don’t particularly like the chest strap one I got with my original Edge 500. Works perfectly when paired with the Edge and great for general activity tracking. My running days are well behind me but i am sure it would be great in this respect too. Highly recommended.
Great for recording my activities. I wear it every day 24/7 and the battery lasts all week. I do roughly 11 miles a day as a postie & I wanted something to count my steps. This does the job.
Excellent product as normal from Garmin, states its an entry level watch, but it’s way more than that.
When u have the Garmin app, it gives u access to ao much Data.
Easy to use watch, reliable and sturdy.
My 3yr old Forerunner 45 battery was shocking it had got the point of only lasting 2.5km on a run from 100% charge.
So far so good with this watch, from 100% I get 10 days with 3x 1hr runs included in terms of battery life.
Much better than the 45 even when new.
Very content with this Garmin and all it’s easy to use functions. Charging via a socket which gets grubby is still its weak spot.
Otherwise its just the job for my fitness and daily life
use it for my runs, switched from fitbit charge 4 and this watch is excellent. plenty of useful features and i love the suggested workouts and helpful stats such as vo2 max and estimated recovery time after runs.
I was after a fitness device where I didn’t have to subscribe to anything monthly and this fits the bill. The GPS tracking is accurate and I love the features it has.
The sleep tracking isn’t very accurate but it gives a general overview. The battery depends on the watchface you use. If you download a face with alot of features it drains the battery. If you stick to one of the preset faces already installed it lasts about 7/8 days.
Setup was easy once I got the apps and it’s a nice small face. Does the job and would recommend it to anyone starting out like myself with running/walking.
This is my 3rd Forerunner and my first 55. Lovely looking watch – does far more than I need or want really but it was a great price on Prime Day and I needed to know the battery would last while I did the Marathon Eryri – it did! Great GPS, finds it much quicker than previous models. I’m sure I can alter it somehow but I find the face info very small, but otherwise no real complaints. Not as technical as the really expensive Garmins but for a ‘normal’ runner, its great!
Old FITness tracker BITten the dust and needed replaced. Saw this on amazon day deal at a perfect time so took the plunge. I run regularly and find that the Garmin is a much better tracker and gives better stats that previous devices. Like the body battery functionality that you can watch your energy levels over the day. Lots of pre-programmed sports / activities to choose from. All in all a great tracker, and carries out all the functions I need for much less than some of this models big brothers
I’d had the Forerunner 945 previously but dropped it down a cliff whilst climbing, so decided a cheaper option was needed! I didn’t use many of the features of the 945 so haven’t missed much, although this does take longer to find satellite connections when you are setting off on a ride or run 20 secs of patience needed!
It’s great for the money in comparison. Much better value unless you have very specific requirements (I don’t do timed swimming!)
Great watch. Does the job. Simple and effective. Only wanted it so I didn’t have to carry my phone around anymore. Records my time and pace and automatically uploads to strava once you connect to garmin.
An excellent value smartwatch for anyone who likes to keep track of their fitness and physical activities. It’s battery life puts it way ahead of smartwatches from Apple or Android although it doesn’t have the sexy screen and you can’t use it as phone etc
Great product
Not just because the brand but the device works really well
All the measurements for running and other sports works really good.
Battery also is great comparing that using with GPS and practicing at least 3 times a week or so, have to charge it every 3 weeks more or less.

I’ve had the Garmin Forerunner 55 for a little over 2 months at the time of writing this review. I purchased to replace a higher end smart device from a few years back (Huawei GT 2 PRO) which had compatibility issues with IOS and poor GPS tracking. I wanted something lightweight, comfortable and easy to use while running.
Whether you’re running on the road or hitting the trails, the watch provides reliable and precise tracking of your distance, pace, and route. This is essential for tracking your progress and analysing your runs.
It includes a heart rate monitor, allowing you to keep an eye on your heart rate during your workouts.
impressive battery stating up to two weeks in smartwatch mode and up to 20 hours in GPS mode – I’ve not scientifically tested but I’ve been getting a good week and a half or so with regular 6-10k runs in.
Sleep tracking also feels accurate when reviewing the data in the app vs how I feel that day. Its nice to be able to keep a track of hours slept/recovery.
The Garmin connect app is also the best I’ve used with lots of insightful data from step tracking, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, body battery & setting running plans. You can also sign up to challenges and earn badges which adds a nice competitiveness if you have friends/family on the same platform.
My personal favourite feature is having a physical start stop button – its a simple one but being able to hit start/stop when getting to a road junction and it working every time vs my old touch screen watch is really nice. Also helps with accuracy of running times.
Overall, the Garmin Forerunner 55 is an excellent GPS running watch for those who are looking for a reliable and affordable device to track their runs. With its accurate GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring, customizable display, and extensive training features, it provides all the essential tools to help you reach your running goals. While it may lack some advanced smartwatch features, its impressive battery life and user-friendly interface make it a solid choice for runners of all levels.
This is a great activity tracker and works well, the GPS seems to connect a lot quicker than my vivoactive 4s. My only gripe which I missed when looking for a new watch was that it does not track floors climbed/ascended so i am not sure it is the right thing for recording hill running. Small gripe but I miss this function hence the 4 star review.
I had a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro. Lovely watch but I was just not using the features, of note the mapping, and it was heavy, looked a little chunky, hard to get under a shirt cuff and required charging a lot.
I went without a Garmin for a while. But then realised I really missed the features of recording my training, walks and the little things like a text message alert.
This 55 is a cracking watch. It’s so light, sits discreetly on the wrist, has the basic features anyone could need and the charge holds for so long: just what I need in a smartwatch at a price that’s hard to beat.
Gave this to my partner for Christmas as he is traning for a marathon and the fitbit was picking up extra steps while brushing his teeth!
He loves it, it’s a smart little device that accurately picks up his heart rate, co2 levels, sleep quality and more.
The only thing he says is that it’s training him for only half a marathon, the watch measures in miles where the app measures in KM but these aren’t important.
Looks great and has his football mates wanting to buy the watch as its so accurate at monitoring his game.
I was previously a fitbit user but I’ve been converted. The watch interface is better, the app is more expansive and detailed and there is not a paywall for certain key features, the GPS component is excellent, its battery life is HUGE in comparison (i only need to charge it once ever 2 weeks, if that!). The only things I can critisize at all are the sleep tracker. (In the evening, if I sit still, lay down or read a book for a few minutes it thinks I’ve fallen asleep and it’s terrible at recognising when I wake up in the night and the next morning. But, that can be manually amended so, not a deal breaker.) And the wrist band isnt that comfirtable in my opinion. I never had issues with my previous rubber watch stap, but the one supplied with my Garmin isnt the most comfortable (the holes going all the way around the band are the issue, a solid strap would be better). This is just a preference thing though and I’m sure I can find an alternative strap design that will be more comfortable for me.
Overall, I’m converted. Why did I ever buy a Fitbit? I’ve been missing out on so much.
I used this for a few weeks to assess:
* Did I need a fitness tracker and would I use it?
* Would I get much use out of the mobile app, and would I like it?
* Would using this improve my health?
I can say for definite, yes on all counts. The main thing I got it for though was to track my cycling, as I have a new mountainbike that I wanted to use to get fitter, and I’ve used that, but Garmin offer a freebie coaching programme which can get you from couch to 5k, or improve your running if you’re a runner already, or to train you for a 10k race or half marathon etc. I’m emphatically not a runner – I’ve had asthma most of my life & I’ve always avoided running, but I thought “Why not” and started the programme. I’m now on Week 3 of the couch to 5K programme, and I’ve just jogged 2.5k to the shops and back & I’m not out of breath. This is really good. However, I noticed a few things about the Forerunner 55:
1 – the watch’s screen is *tiny*. It’s a small area within a small watch face, and it’s not very bright or sharp. As a 51 year old man I find myself constantly having to peer over my glasses at it.
2 – it lacks some features found in the more high-end watches, like SpOx (blood oxygen).
Small things, I know, but I got this watch to see if Garmin was for me. It is, and I’ve upgraded to a Garmin Venu 2 45mm, and given the Forerunner 55 to my wife, who’s really enjoying using it.
What’s lacking on the mobile app: there’s no widgets for the phone. Previously I was using Google Fit, and Garmin Connect doesn’t seem to sync with that despite connecting my Google account to my Garmin account. These are things I hope Garmin fixes in the future – interoperability between fitness apps on the same phone is a big deal, and it’s these small annoyances that lead me to give it 4 rather than 5 stars overall.
