I’ve been using the smaller 34cm 40v green works mower for most of this year and it did the job well but I found it a bit under powered and under sized for my garden.
In the last few weeks we have done away with some old concrete pathways and a patio and planted turf grass instead. At the weekend I saw the 46cm 40v self powered mower on special offer at Amazon. So I bought it and it arrived the next day. After unpacking all is needed is the placing of two bolts to hold the top part of the handle on and it’s ready, no tools needed at all. It feels and handled like a quality mower and cut the whole garden on just two 2amp batteries. Although the batteries I have are adequate I will probably upgrade them to 4amp and keep the others for my strimmer and pole cutter. It’s a great mower, and I can confidently recommend it.
Powerful, agile, easy to fold back the handle for storage, better than my old petrol mower.
The real plus side is I do not have to store petrol anymore, the downside is if you rely totally on the drive function then the battery does not get you as far as the advert says, possibly half of it.
That said I do not mind since I have two 4Ahr batteries ready for use, and that does the job okay.
I can only imagine that in their tests they had a very fit person who marched quite briskly and pushed the mower, and only gave the lawn a minimum trim.
It cuts well due to the sheer speed of the blade, giving a better finish than the petrol mower.
Overall, even though the battery use is high in the real-world testing, I would not like to go back to a petrol mower, so I give it, 9 out of 10.
Great item, makes a clean cut, should of got the bigger Ah battery as the 2 Ah battery dosent last long enough to do both gardens. A little expensive but having no cords or storing fuel is a bonus. Folds up easily and you can store stood up not like a petrol mower.
Very well made and works well but battery is not powerful enough, I purchased more powerful battery. I would not like to pay full price , but price through Amazon warehouse was acceptable.
I take it all back! This is an awesome machine, but only when you spent another 200 on 4Ah batteries. The smaller ones are pretty useless, and overheat quite readily, but with the larger batteries it just keeps on mowing. However, it makes it a very expensive machine to cut your lawn.
It should been able to cope with our lawn which is under the 750sqm maximum suggested for this lawnmower and I bought it with two 2.5Ah batteries to increase the runtime further. Two stripes of the lawn, cut beautifully and grass collected efficiently, but then the mower cuts out because the motor/battery has overheated. Wait 10 minutes for it to cool down, and manage another 1.5 stripes of the lawn before the same happens again. After the third round, the battery is dead and needs replacing with the spare, but you can’t charge the first one up because it’s too hot and won’t charge. So, with the replacement battery the same process again, with 10 minutes rests in between each 2 minute run. At this point, because the other battery isn’t charged because it’s too hot, you simply have to give up. What would have taken me 30 minutes with a traditional lawnmower now takes up the entire weekend. I wish I had never invested in the lawnmower. It’s a real let down for Greenworks tools as the strimmer/brush cutter and the chain saw both work brilliantly.
Very good animal for its price. We bought it because it was well rated independently by The Independent. Good for large gardens due to its easy to use battery, five height cutting levels and two blades.
I’ve just used this machine for the first time. Once one gets used to the controls it’s easy to operate. It cuts very well and I’m able to do our lawn with just one battery. I’m part disabled having to use crutches to get about. The self propelled feature can be adjusted to my walking speed. However if for what ever reason I have to let go the machine immediately stops. I have also bought the Greenworks electric barrow I use all the time.
This battery lawnmower was purchased at a specially reduced Amazon price and proved very popular. The mower was delivered a day before expected so well done Amazon.
However during delivery the box handles were damaged and ripped which apparently is not unusual as you need to hold both handles to spread the weight of the mower. Inside the box, the Greenworks mower is well packaged and comes mostly assembled. The only thing you need to do is unscrew a couple of bolts and attach the top handle (3 mins).
First impression of the mower out of the box is good. The deck of the mower is metal and has a hard plastics side cover for side discharge. The mulching plug was already in the machine so make sure you remove it if you want to collect the grass clippings in the fabric bag.
This mower does not come with batteries or a charger so make sure you budget for these items. I purchased 2 40v 2AH batteries from Amazon which again were on special purchase price. I went for the 2AH battery as I did not want to purchase more expensive batteries and find the mower could not perform. I also purchased a Greenworks fast charger which charges the batteries in 30 minutes (great buy). I will review the batteries separately but I am happy with their performance if a little quick to run flat.
I have used the mower to bag clippings, side discharge and mulch. So far I have been really impressed. The mower has 7 height levels and is operated with one level. The mower has variable speed self drive which really helps with gradients although the mower is light enough to push if you want to save battery. The mower collected all the grass clippings in the bag and completely filled the 55l bag. The drive does not instantly engage but works well. I also used the mower to clear a rough section of the garden using the side discharge which really well throwing clippings a couple of metres away. The mower can be driven using the self drive system without the blade turning and is great when returning the mower to the shed.
After use I cleaned the underneath of the deck and then stored the mower vertically. The handles can be moved by pulling out the spring bolts and folding in half. The mower has not fuel or oil so can be stored standing up thus saving space.
If you can afford the fastest charger it is worth the extra money as I was able to use 1 battery while charging the other. Although there are 2 battery ports only one of the ports run the mower and the other is to store a spare battery.
The mower is manoeuvrable and light enough to push if required. So far I have been really impressed with the mower. Time will tell if this is as great and buy as I think it is. I will update the review at the end of the summer.
Easy to use and ensemble I found buying the quick charger and battery separately better as if you buy with the charger it’s the one that takes 3 hrs thats great if u have two battery’s but as I just have one the quick charger that is easy to use comes with uk and European power lead easy to use and charges in 30 minutes
I bought this to replace one I had for many years and which unfortunately I managed to damage; entirely my fault. I have large lawns and therefore use two batteries each time. The only minor issue is that I would like it to cut a little closer; I therefore placed a washer under the blades and it’s sorted out! You won’t get stripes but the quality of the twin blade cut is excellent, and wide, saving time Make a note of which way the blade nuts are removed when it needs sharpening. One is clockwise and the other anticlockwise. I got it wrong, used too much force and caused the damage. Would I buy one again? Well I did, so that says everything.
Submitted a query to the help line but never received a response, which was disappointing. The lowest cutting level may not suite some lawns as it is quite high. Saying that my lawn has never looked so green and lush. Because there is no rear roller you can get wheel lines when mowing.
I took delivery of the mower and associated batteries etc.
After an initial problem with a missing bolt for securing the handle, I got the machine assembled which is simplicity itself.
Having not been cut since the start of the “Lock-down” my grass front and back of the house was long and damp and I was not sure how the mower would cope. I need not have worried.
The cutting power and the self propelling mechanism just sailed through the task, leaving a lot of grass cuttings for the compost heap!
It is really simple to use and gives excellent results.
The mower is excellent but the claims for battery life with the supplied 2X2Ah batteries are wildly overstated. I can just manage my 300m2 lawn with both batteries and only if I push as well as self-power to save battery life. There is also no battery level indicator so the battery suddenly gives up without warning.
The motor winds up to full power when the grass gets longer but doesn’t wind down again when the grass gets shorter, using battery life unnecessarily.
I bought this from another store. I have to say its a breeze to use. I have a front and back garden of about 300 sq Mtrs, and with the grass being over 30 cms long it had no trouble cutting it. The first time on the longest cut this used most of the battery power, and I thought it was going to be bad as it left loads of cut grass in lumps on the lawn. I knew about the mulching plug and had already removed it, but the reason for the clumps was basically it was too wet.
Normally I can get half of the garden cut before our Green bin is completely full and that is when the grass is a lot shorter.
After the first cut with the lumps of grass the bin was less than qtr full. Two days later i did the lawn still with the lumps of cut grass on the shortest cut and all the lumps were sucked up into the bag. Once completed lawn looked great, and still had room in the bin. The reason for this is the cuttings are a lot smaller so take less space. the garden used to take me 30 mins with the old petrol now it takes 20 mins.
The mower is lighter and much more maneuverable then my propelled petrol mower. Yes its expensive in the first instance, but the cut is better, a recharge of the 2 batteries takes less than 2 hours. when the grass is shorter, I use about a third of the battery. It does not get buried when the ground is soft.
