Can cover a massive area without too much wasted water.

I am responsible for the garden in our shared flat and live on the first floor. I can dive the beds in the vet large shared gardens with one move of this sprinkler, which means far trips up and down the stairs, a real boon for me.

In the past, I borrowed other types of sprinkler from friends to water my 12x6m lawn. My water pressure is, at best, on the low side so a session involved moving the sprinkler multiple times. It was a chore.

Then I discovered this Hozelock product. I need only place it once and the spray reaches the furthest parts of the lawn. Brilliant.

I’m docking it one star because it can be difficult to push the metal spike into a very dry lawn. As another reviewer said, it’s worth hand-watering the patch you’re going to stick the spike in first, and wait 20 minutes for the water to soak in. Then it’s easier. And be warned, it’s important to press down on the hose connector when you do this. Pressing down hard on the top of the sprinkler may cause damage.

This sprinkler is a revelation and I wish I discovered it sooner. Heartily recommended!!

I had to replace my previous sprinkler because it broke at the point where you connect the hose. Over time the plastic had become brittle. It would be good if that area could be reinforced. Having said that, it’s a very efficient sprinkler for my small lawns.

I used and installed this sprinkler in my garden despite a low pressure it’s working way better than others. Reaching about 250 sqm of coverage its by far the best i got. I have been tried a few systems from amazon for me it was the best but unlike others you can’t quite move it around as you need to plant in the soil.
I put only 4 stars for the lack of flexibility and setting it up takes a bit more time than others. Still easy just longer.

Had the original sled based Hozelock sprinkler that I bought a few years ago it gave up the ghost last week. Bought this one as a replacement it sprays half as wide again as my previous model and rotates quicker. Very pleased indeed !

Read reviews before purchase and was concerned. However 100% satisfied, so easy to set up and move around without even turning tap off. Coverage is so much better than I hoped and really have to close tap/reduce pressure considerably to make smaller arcs. Will buy second one soon..

It’s early days but the fifth sprinkler I have tried.

I have a 525m2 garden but low water pressure. The advertised max coverage is only relevant if you have 4 bar of pressure mine is about 1 on a good day. That said the Gardena premium pulse failed on day 2 (not enough pressure they claim for it to rotate) drench sprinklers took 14 positions at 20 mins each to cover the area and this one seems to have nailed it in about 7/8 positions (albeit on top of the Gardena 50 cm tripod) .

If it fails I will update the review but, at the moment, it’s the best I’ve tried.

5.0 out of 5 stars It seems to work.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUPDATE
I had updated my five star review to one star as the sprinkler stopped revolving after just over a year making it somewhat useless but I then discovered hidden among the one star reviews is a suggestion from Hozelock to a disgruntled customer with the same rotation problem of trying WD40. It didn’t work for him but, with nothing to lose, I gave it a whirl.
I sprayed down the nozzles and the gaps around all the revolving parts and sprayed into the hose inlet, then held the unit upside down and sprayed into the inlet again until WD40 started to drip out then tried connecting a hose again. Problem solved and it now works perfectly again. I have no idea if that is the best way to lubricate but it worked for me and may solve the problem for some other customers with units that are no longer revolving. Perhaps Hozelock should mention a possible solution to the revolve problem in their marketing which I am sure would avoid a fair number of complaints looking at the one star reviews!
I have two units so will be spraying the second one, which is working all right, just as a precaution.
So, with the proviso you might have to use WD40, or equivalent from time to time, the original review stands.
A YEAR AGO . . . . I have used a Gardena pulse sprinkler with no problems for many years to water fruit and veg at the bottom of the garden usually around 10.30pm when pressure is somewhere near normal again after most people have finished their evening watering and sprinkling.
But new houses have been built just beyond our boundary and pulse sprinklers by their very nature are quite noisy, especially in the stillness of night, so out of consideration to new neighbours I tried this pro sprinkler and have been impressed.
I am not sure it manages the coverage it claims, at least not on my water pressure, which, admittedly is reduced by the distance from the mains supply to the bottom of the garden, but it does carry a decent distance, about six to seven metre radius, and the jets are more upright rather than the flatter throw of a pulse sprinkler so the water falls closer to the vertical which can help if any pots or plants are in a rain shadow.
The range, obviously, depends upon pressure at the time, but, late at night it is not far short of the pulse jet it has replaced, doing the same job but in silence.
The excellent Gardena will still have its uses but for automatic late night watering the Hozelock model does much the same job and is less likely to annoy neighbours who are far close to the sound than we are.

Absolutely brilliant bit of kit. You can control exactly where you want the water to go…save on water wastage….

I’ve bought a few expensive pulsating sprinklers…and none have done the job…infact most stopped working after a days use…

This however is a breath of fresh air….
A bit expensive….but worth every penny..

I would highly recommend this product.

I had an oscillating sprinkler before this which had much less coverage so had to be moved around the garden all the time and would often just get stuck in one position.
This is very easy to use, very good coverage although the circular pattern may mean you waste a little if you a watering a square area. No problems with it at all so far.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersSo it is early days with this sprinkler but what I do like is that it is far easier to adjust to water those awkward areas than most others, particularly the rectangular bar sprinklers, and with decent water pressure it does cover a reasonable distance, but there is a flaw.

The flaw is getting it into the ground. If the lawn is nice and soft it goes in really easily, but typically people water their lawns when there hasn’t been any rainfall for a long period and the soil is hard. To get it in you naturally push down on the plastic top half and where the hose connects, which is also plastic, so I can see this breaking quite easily. On my 1st water I couldn’t push it all the way in without fear of breaking so only went half way down the spike. I let it run for 30 minutes to discover that as the ground softened the sprinkler had fallen backwards so instead of watering my lawn it was watering my patio, table & chairs and my windows along with 1k worth of wood for my decking project I had kept dry! Quickly fixed now that the ground was soft. So my recommendation is to wet the area you are going to place the sprinkler 1st to make sure you can sink the spike in nice and deep.

Loses 1 star as it should have something to ease pushing it in the ground and loses 2 stars for VFM as I can see this breaking within a few months.

So we decided to get 3 of these to see if they would cover the area we needed to water as 310m2 in the description was hard to work out how far the water would go. The spray is approximately 6 metres from the device so a fair distance. It was exactly what we needed and have installed 2 so far and will keep the 3rd in the event one gets damaged by the budding footballers in our house

Parts of our garden were perfect for this! But we couldn’t use it too close to the fence or in the front garden as it soaked passers by! We do have high water pressure though.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have a 10m x 12m lawn and bought various sprinklers and this is the best one. It does a nice 360 circle (or a segment depending on how you set it up) and it’s fairly even from close to far. Max distance on my pressure is about 4-5m. Takes about 20 minutes to thoroughly soak the lawn then I do the corners separately with a hose which is loads quicker than doing it manually myself

  15. Anonymous says:

Pretty pleased with this – it’s watering my full lawn (about 16m x 11m) and some adjoining beds from one location, which none of the oscillating sprinklers have managed, and also at much lower cost.

As it’s circular I’d say I’m getting 17-18m diameter which is about 225-250m2 coverage, but that’s running through about 40m of hose on a reel so may well get a bit more if I used a shorter hose laid out. Coverage does depend on water pressure and the quoted figure of 314m2 is at 4 bar. Mine is pretty good.

Only time will tell if it’s durable, but it feels well made and the spike pushed easily into a firm lawn so I have high hopes.

The issue, of course, is that the circular pattern won’t suit all gardens. But if you have a large garden and can make the curve work then this is a great piece of kit.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI have 3 other Hozelock round sprinkler pros, two of them identical to this unit and the third having a sledge plastic base instead of the spike assembly fitted.
My oblong lawns are quite small, front 8.4m x 3.2m and rear 7.7m x 4.7m, I chose the round sprinklers over the oscillating style to minimise the height of the spray.
Knowing that Amazon do not arrange the photographs in order that you upload them, I’ll try and explain the ease of use.
Four photographs show the unit in operation,1 x mist spray, 2 x jet spray and 1 x showing the foreground unit in jet spray whilst the background unit is in mist spray.
Three card scanned images are self explanatory, turning the red dials to the angle of the area (circle) to be watered, the jet spray and mist spray heads.
Three photographs show the unscrewing and removal of the filter for cleaning and refitting.
Three photographs show how to remove the body from the spike assembly, hold on to the yellow (water inlet) section whilst turning the grey collar (below the spray circle dial) to separate.
Two photographs show the procedure to turn the spray head around from jet to mist, by holding the red collar ( at the top) and turning the yellow grey spray nozzle head in the direction of the arrow engraved.
Since my lawns are small, I don’t open my outdoor tap fully (about one full turn) until the desired spray area is covered. I use one unit on jet spray for my front lawn and two units on mist spray for the rear lawn.
I’ve had my three original units over four years, this spiked unit was purchased to replace the sprinkler with the wide yellow sledge base which is more suited to sitting on hard bases where a spike is unusable.
Hopefully this has answered any questions and as you can guess, I would recommend the Hozelock round sprinkler pro 314m.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’m re-seeding my lawn in September so I needed to find a sprinkler that will work from the ‘sidelines’, as I won’t be able to walk on the lawn to water it. This sprinkler is a lot bigger than expected but comes with a metal spike (rather than a plastic one which others have mentioned), which goes into soil with no issues. Adjustability is good and I have found that the ‘spray’ setting works better than the ‘jet’ setting (grab the body of the sprinkler and rotate the head to change spray settings, then rotate the bump-stops to set where the oscillation starts and stops). Overall I’m happy with this sprinkler at the moment, would recommend!

Been trying to find a great sprinkler so I’ve been experimenting. I have the Hozelock rectangular oscillating sprinkler (I’ve kept it) which is pretty good, but I had to keep going out and moving the location of the sprinkler, guess my pressure is just okay. Then I ordered the Gardena impact sprinkler. Total crap that was. This one is a dream though. I get a distance of about 6m which is good (I only need to move the sprinkler once rather than 4x to get the garden covered). I can reduce the water from the tap to only make a little circle and water the front patch. love that I can change the mode and it’s so easy to use, and it oscillates at it should. LOVE IT. I hope it stays this way.

Before this sprinkler I was dragging my old one around my garden periodically watering from 6 separate locations. Now I can water the whole garden from a single spot as it’s got such a brilliant reach, and it’s quite a gentle watering too.

It also has the feature to restrict the angle you water by moving a couple of guides around the circumference of the device.

This little beast was well worth every penny I spent on it. My old sprinklers were a complete waste of money now I have this one. I won’t look back 🙂

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought a standard spiked version of this in a sale many years ago, and it was brilliant. So much better than all of the other sprinklers I’d tried over the years. It stopped rotating in the middle of the drought, and there didn’t seem much chance of repair, so I looked on-line and found this one which is even better. It has a flat base so can be positioned virtually anywhere and moved around with ease, and it has an extra option of a fine spray over a smaller area. It is a brilliant product and thoroughly recommended. The drought has now (finally) ended, but I expect to be using this for many years to come for all my garden watering needs.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt was pretty close between 4 or 5 stars but finally settled for 4. I have an odd shaped garden so I wanted something portable which I could relocate to cover the whole lawn. I used the sprinkler spiked to the borders and adjusted the swing range so that it only watered in the required arc and it was really handy. It lost one star because for some reason the closest spot to the sprinkler seemed to be dryer than the outer reaches. I checked the holes and they were unobstructed. But as I mentioned my lawn is oddly shaped so after moving the sprinkler around a few times it all evened out.

We had our small lawn renovated this year and wanted to keep it looking good. This works a treat. It is sturdy, easy to attach and gives good coverage. I may be being dim here but I didn’t realise that the water pressure makes it turn round and ‘do’ the other side! Often our water pressure is really low, but still works well. Don’t know why we haven’t bought one before. As I write this everyone elses lawn is patchy and brown but ours is a lush, healthy green.Part down to the treatment it’s had and part down to this beauty. A good idea – if you have small kids they would love this!!

Got this to replace an old pole type sprinkler which had its day. We have quite a large area of grass and this only needs moving twice to water the whole garden. I’m not sure if the area it says it cover is what we’re getting but I guess water pressure will have a lot to do with it.

I used both settings as the front is a smaller size so I used spray/mist setting for this as it covers a smaller area but worked very well.

I would recommend but probably advise it doesn’t spray 20 metres as this is the size of my garden.

  24. Anonymous says:

Bought this due to it having a mist setting. I wanted to keep grass seed moist and misting seemed like the gentlest option. Not sure I’d really call this mist though, but has done the job nevertheless, disrupting the seed a little with the slightly coarser spray than I was hoping for. I like the ability to limit the rotation and hence control where the spray reaches. So after my initial disappointment, I’m now pretty happy overall but the misting setting is a bit of a misrepresentation in my view.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI considered a few other Hozelock options and went for this as best fitting my needs. Have used it several times and it has been trouble-free. It has a very long range – easily covers my 50x50ft square lawn.

In fact, it can spray well beyond it, as the specs say, which means I have to turn down the tap to cut down the range. This in turn means flow is reduced, ie less water per minute onto the lawn. So, in an ideal world, I’d like a sprinkler that allowed flow rate to be adjusted separately from range (eg by adjusting the size of the sprinkler holes).

But that’s just quibbling – I’d recommend the sprinkler to anyone with a lawn the size of mine, or bigger.

By the way, I wonder how many of those whose sprinklers have broken failed to follow the instructions on the packet which clearly tell you NOT to push the sprinkler into the ground by pressing on the top (even though that’s the natural thing to do), but instead to hold the body down by the water inlet? Pushing on the top damages the gears inside, which will eventually stop it rotating, so advise anyone buying it to follow the instructions!

Works very well – the two spray patterns are very handy, as is the adjustable collar.

However, like all Hozelock products these days, it’s expensive (even on Amazon) and I’ve yet to discover how long it lasts. It’s obvious to me that the components aren’t terribly strong – and if you stepped on this while it was on a stone surface (eg the garden path) I’m sure it would break.

I’ve been told that plastic doesn’t like being left out in the cold, so I’ll bring it in for winter and hope it lasts more than a season.

I wish I could find a truly professional range of garden equipment. I’d happily pay twice as much for something that would last a lifetime.

Sadly, built in obsolescence is the way of the modern world.

  27. Anonymous says:

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersA little expensive (at RRP) for what it is, so if you can snag it for under twenty quid, it’s much better value. The only other slight minus point is that the sled base can seem not very substantial depending on the pressure of water flow and nature of the surface it is located on.

Other than that the selectable arc/radius feature works and the two manually selectable modes of “spray” complement each other. A pit there’s not a way to get the sprinkler to periodically self-switch between these two modes, but in this level and price bracket of equiment that would be a miracle!
