After several electric and battery operated can openers that never last I thought I’d try a manual one, this does the job really well,as I have arthritis in my hands it’s difficult to turn ordinary butterfly can openers but this one is super easy
I have had an electric can opener for many years that uses batteries. Unfortunately it failed, so I was looking for something more compact as I do not use it everyday as most things have a ring pull. This is certainly compact and it is easy to grip. I have rheumatoid arthritis, during a flair up I may find this more difficult to grip, but probably wouldn’t be wanting to open a tin can then anyway. however this condition does mean that my grip is not great at the best of times but I found this find easy and simple to use and most of all compact. Thoughtful design, as with most Joseph Joseph products, so I would recommend.
It is just a little awkward to use. Maybe my hands are too big, but it only gets occasional use and is tidy in the drawer so its a long term feature of the kitchen now…
What a neat tin opener. I’ve yet to try it out as would you believe the tins I needed to open after it arrived have pull rings on them. I know it’ll be good as are all Joseph and Joseph equipment. Thanks
Much better than the traditional one I had. This one is easy to use and twists easily even with my wrist problem. Can’t comment on durability as only had it for short while.
Brilliant can opener. Easy to use. Clean removal of lid and simple safe one press to discard lid. Joy to use. Compact device which takes up very little room in the drawer. Would not hesitate to recommend this as I use it all the time and I have had no issues with it.
We bought this as a replacement for our old one. Once you get used to how it works, this is really easy to use. It feels well made – our previous one lasted a number of years before it started to lose it’s effectiveness. It’s a clever but usable design and it’s such a neat little thing – doesn’t take up much space in the drawer.
This is a fabulous tin opener. It’s really practical. I am left handed and tin openers have always been a problem and this is not at all. I have had it some time and it’s still as good as new. It’s small and so easy to use. It’s also brilliant if you have problems griping things. This is the best thing I have used and I must say that goes forever product I have by Joseph Joseph and I have got many of them. Love it. thank you.
I’ve bought so many can openers and none of them last very long – I bought this as a back-up to an expensive one, and I decided to try it out, just as a change. It was amazing – best ever. So simple to use, even for a man. Sold the electric one and this one fits neatly in the cutlery drawer. High praise!
I’ve had a couple of Joseph Joseph bathroom products and was impressed by the design and build quality. We needed a new tin opener and had tried a few electric ones. Those always seem to work fine for a short while but are difficult to clean and start slipping and malfunctioning after quite a short time period. The cheap old school manual ones are usually pretty rubbish so as we had previous good experience with Joseph Joseph thought we’d try this. I can confirm that although it’s very compact this tin opener is nevertheless easy to use and doesn’t take very much turning effort. The build quality seems good and although we’ve not had it for very long I have a feeling it will be quite durable. It doesn’t seem to get too dirty thus far probably because it’s not too over engineered. Overall it’s a thumbs up from me.
I was looking for an electric tin opener as I have problems with my hands. When it arrived I looked for the battery. There isn’t one so I thought I’d made a big mistake. However, you sit the item on the top of your tin and start to turn the grip. It’s surprisingly easy and I enjoy using mine.
Ha ha I thought I was looking at battery tin openers when I bought this so spent a few minutes trying to figure out how to put batteries in it when it arrived. It seems to work ok so far. Bit expensive for a manual opener and it still leaves a sharp edge on the tin. It is compact and it does grip the lid as advertised. The design means you get no leverage to help so turning the handle requires some effort which might not suit everyone. I’m happy to keep it now although it cost about the same as a battery one I tried (which failed to, um, open any cans).
I have to admit to being a fan of Joseph Joseph products – having had surgery on my hand for arthritis I now find I cannot use a conventional tin opener which is why I purchased one of these. It takes one hand to operate clips easily onto tins and all you do is turn the handle till the lid Is removed and then press the button to release the lid.
There are no sharp edges as it cuts from underneath the rim of the lid rather than inside the rim.
I would recommend this product – particularly if like me you have difficulty gripping as you do with a conventional tin opener. This is almost a perfect product but if there is one thing I would improve on it’s the height of the turning handle would benefit from being a little taller.
Can be awkward to use sometimes, space saving and looks good but can be tricky to remove the lid.
After 2 years it is now useless and no longer opens anything.
MY HUSBAND SAYS “THE BEST CAN OPENER WE HAVE EVER HAD”. IT IS EASY TO CLEAN, AND FITS AWAY SNUG IN THE CUTLERY DRAWER GOOD VALUE FOR THE MONEY, FAST DELIVERY WELL PLEASED. THANK YOU
I have gone through many different can openers in my time and have never really found one I like until now. It is small and compact and sits well in my kitchen drawer and is very easy to spot. It sits nicely on top of any can (I have yet to find one it struggles with) and once you start to twist the top it clamps the tin and starts turning it. Once you have gone all the way round the tin you simply push the button on the side and the lid will pop off. I usually rinse the lid under the tap then release it straight into the bin. It has even opened damaged tins with ease. I have also bought one for my mum now as she has trouble with her hands and needed something easy and reliable.
Wow, I wrote a review when I received my can opener, saying it was good but wasn’t sure how long it would last, well I’ve had it for a few months now and it’s as good as ever, opens every type of tin, including those frey bentos flat round ones, it’s comfortable to use and is for left or right handers, would definitely recommend and will be buying more from this range, I would say tho, give it a couple of days to get used to handling it, it’s strange at first but it gets better, I won’t go back to a standard can opener after using this ….enjoy x
Nice compact little can opener. Works flawlessly – have to admit I bought it in a hurry thinking it was a battery powered one, but – it’s so nice it doesn’t matter.
Simply put it on the top of the tin, as you turn the green knob it grips the can and turns it. The lid comes off with the opener – press the green button on the side to release.
Definitely recommended.
Having gone through three traditional can openers in the last 18 months. (Mostly the teeth that grip the edge of the canteen to wear out!) and being reluctant to buy an electric one to add to my already cluttered worktop. Plus most cans come with a ring pull, I bought this. I like Joseph and Joseph stuff and thought I would try this. You have to give it a couple of goes. You have to position it on the can and turn the dial to get the blades to engage. And it doesn’t feel like it is cutting through because as you turn it. Seems to be just rolling ole”a knife through butter” but it works. However the ltop comes off and you press the button to release. To the point I recommended it to a friend whose mum has arthritis in her fingers and who struggles to use a conventuals one. Also it doesn’t sit in the drawer and jam it like convential ones whose arms always open up and catch on the work too! (A quick prayer to Anoia the Goddss of Kitchen Srawers usually frees it!)
Not what I expected, hard to use. Would not recommend this to anyone with problems with their joints . Hard to get it to release the lid afterwards. Only benefit I can see is it fits into the drawer nicely. Wouldn’t buy another one. Not worth 15 .
** New review **
**Have used this for years now and it was quite stiff at the beginning but it’s loosened up considerably and is brilliant. Highly recommended as it’s still working fine all these years later with no need to buy any others.**
