Its’ a good little egg timer.

After the first couple of uses the surface became hazy. I scratched off the thin white film, but the timer lines were invisible after the next egg. I was about to send it back, but then I realised once it’s back in the water, the surface becomes clear again and it’s easy to read, as shown on photos.

I used to have a different model, but after a while water got into the middle – probably due to faulty adhesive – and it couldn’t be read. This one is built much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate and easy to read - don't be put off by the hazy surface when out of wate

I don’t use it that often but it’s split and I had to replace it. Still worth having but would love them to fix the separation issue. Mind you, then they wouldn’t get the repeat sales so.

A fabulous little gadget that helps you get your eggs just as you like them! You just slip it into the pan along with the eggs and the water. WAs a great little stocking filler for student son who now wouldn’t be without it!

The accuracy and ease to use are excellent. However it fogs when in water. Maybe a crack? This is my 2nd of the same brand and the first one was ok for many years until lost it during a move.

Many years ago I bought of of these and a while ago it stopped working properly and just went black randomly. However it worked well for many years. This one is a lot easier to read (it goes white not black) and so far turns out eggs just as the gauge says. Don’t forget that a lot depends on the age of the egg too.

What I like about this method of cooking eggs is that it is very visual, doesn’t depend on timing; it gradually turns yellow from the edge inwards, clearly indicating wether soft, medium etc. I’ve only used it a couple of times but did give expected results. If the water is bubbling a lot, it may be difficult to clearly see the timer, but just reduce the heat so you can, the water does not need to be bubbling a lot to cook eggs, only gently.
This “timer” is not “fool” proof, as it does not take into account small, medium or large eggs, but I would recommend “calibrating” it, by trial and error, so you know what the timer should indicate when the eggs are to your liking, and remember that indication. EG you might like your yolk medium cooked, but the timer actually indicated half way between soft and medium.

    INTRO:
I needed an egg timer as our old one did what all-too-happens with these and split in half!!

    UNBOXING:
    No packaging included

    MANUAL:
    None-included

    THE DEVICE:
Literally dig it our of the knife/fork and spoon drawer and pop it into your pan of water with your egg and then as the egg is boiling, just keep an eye on it till you get to the desired hardness for your egg. It is really simple to use and with consistant results.

    PROs:
    Simple to operate

    CONs:
Can be a bit fiddly to read when the water is boiling
Don’t put it in the dishwasher!

Brilliant gadget, used to make soft boiled scotch eggs. Halfway between soft and medium is perfect for room temp large eggs. Follow the instructions and boil on its own before using to get rid of factory residue

This gadget is so easy to use – just pop in the pan with the egg/s. It starts off pink and gradually turns white clearly indicating how well done the egg is. Best egg timer ever!

Great kitchen gadget, really easy to read and use.
However had a strong plastic smell to it and required a good few cleans and boils until the smell (/potential taste) was gone.
I would recommend washing a few times before using

Can’t live without this. How did I ever boil eggs before I used one of these?

So eggs come in different sizes so you will need to boil a few eggs first to see what your preference is then stick to that. Once you know where your mark is you can consistently hit it every time with perfect boiled eggs. Saves the disappointment of breaking open an egg only for your little soldiers to bounce off an impenetrable hard boiled yolk. Is there a sadder sight? I think not.

There can be a chemically smell when cooking but it doesn’t permeate the egg so won’t affect the flavour.

Get one, some marmite, a decent toaster and perfect your dipping action.

I purchased this to replace a similar one that split after a few years of use. When these things split they let water into in the heat sensitive material in the middle and they become totally useless!

Unlike some reviewers I did end up with the KitchenCraft version of the product which is the one that I ordered, so no complaints from that perspective. It arrived in retail packaging and the text on the timer can be easily read, even in the pan with the eggs and water.

With this essentially being a lump of plastic that you stick in the water with the eggs there is no way to adjust the cooking time so I think it’s fair to say it’s only really accurate with medium sized eggs. For larger eggs you need to cook them well into the ‘medium’ marker of they will be too snotty and under cooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job

This was to replace a similar product I had used for many years. I find that it is not that easy to see through the bubbles in the pan and although great for hard boiled eggs, I find it difficult to get exactly the right soft boiled egg.

i never could get my timing right. now i get perfect eggs every time whichever state i want them. it took a few goes to establish what suited me as it doesn’t match exactly to ‘soft’ etc but in-between, but that’s ok. only down side is having to check/watch as it is not a regular timer with an alarm

Surprisingly accurate. It also means you don’t have to pop your egg into boiling water and risk a crack. Put the egg in cold water, bring to the boil, and wait for the timer to get to the desired dippiness

Excellent product, really does work. However they never seem to last that long before the plastic turns really cloudy that you cant see the markings. Cheap enough to keep replacing.

What a find! I used this egg timer for the first time this morning. I have never managed to cook the perfect soft egg until now. All 3 eggs were perfectly soft and runny. This is the perfect gift for the kitchen. THANK YOU!

I love these colour changing egg timers – no more worrying about whether the egg has come out of the fridge or whether to put the egg in before or after the water has boiled. It reacts tot he heat of the water in the same way that the eggs are so you can just do a visual check on the colour and take the eggs our when that matches up with how you like your booked egg – mine is between of and medium!

A very good kitchen device. I found that ‘medium’ was the perfect line for a really perfect soft boiled egg, but it depends on how you like your eggs. Really helpful if you always (as I did) mess up the timing of cooking a great soft boiled egg. Recommend.

Product itself is fine – does what it says and made a good stocking filler. Unfortunately though the packaging was slightly falling apart when it arrived – the plastic case for the egg coming away from the cardboard back. I had to glue it back together once or twice and it just about held up.

This is a great little egg timer. Just pop it in the pan along with your eggs and take out when ready. As the timer heats up it turns from red to white along a scale ranging from soft to hard.

When you first receive the timer, boil it a few times to remove any residue left over from manufacturing. You will also notice a chemical plasticky smell, this eventually subsides the more you use it. When you have a rolling boil it can be hard to read the scale, I just lift it out of the water with a spoon.

I can now make perfect soft boiled eggs to go along with my soldiers. I find half way between soft and medium is the magic spot.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis nifty little gizmo helps you create perfect boiled eggs every time.

Simply drop it into the pan at the same time as your eggs, and depending on whether you want hard boiled, medium or soft boiled, simply watch the unit change colour and remove the eggs from cooking when the indicator tells you.

The timer is made from a hard resin and can be used again and again, if you’re cooking lots of eggs you just need to give it time to cool down in between uses. Much more reliable that a sand or clock timer as it cake take into account variables such as how hot the water was when you started cooking, and you can’t miss the indicator telling you what stage the egg is at.

    Very glad I purchased this.
