Works well and connected easily via Bluetooth. The software that you can download has some nice features as well like the mouse moving automatically between computers that are next to each other. Only issue I’ve had is sometimes it seems to go to sleep and I have to open the Bluetooth settings for it to re-connect. Vary rare but it does happen.
14 months after purchase I wrote a scathing review here saying my middle mouse button had stopped scrolling, however, after restarting the computer (i.e., power on/off) the issue disappeared. Felt guilty about the bad review after this, so just updated it. The mouse is excellent, 15 months later and still working perfectly. Its the best mouse I’ve ever owned (I always bought cheap/basic ones before). The speedy scroll on the middle mouse button is extremely useful — but can also be set to normal (traditional) speed mode.
Very good feel, easy to pair. Just one gripe the device selection button (1,2,3) is too close to the other thumb buttons and can be pressed accidentally. It should go elsewhere
I need to be honest. I always bought the most reviewed and cheaper keyboard and mouse around when I needed it. But I never thought that investing on a more premium keyboard and mouse set would make a difference in my life. The Logitech MX Keys keyboard is something else, it’s an absurd how its keys feels good when typing, how smart it is the backlight that illuminates confirming your space brightness, conserving battery when it does not need to be lit.
As for the M720 Triathlon Multi-Device Wireless Mouse, it’s comfortable to use, you can customize ALL its buttons via software, and the fact you can use both products on three different devices with a click of a button makes it more interesting so you can swiftly changes devices while working on different things at the same time.
It fits my hand perfectly, took a few goes to forget I was using a white design classic with no ergonomic thought in its design.
Very easy to set up via the computer’s Bluetooth setup. Very fast scroll action and smooth with no drag.
Comes with Mission Control left click, no need for charging cable as AA battery in use. Also comes with wifi dongle if your computer hasn’t Bluetooth
Mouse has a high back and therefor provides good support. The feel is very good as it is a soft rubber. The wheel has the tilt function which is great if you regularly have to scroll horizontally. For small hands ideal if you prefer palm grip. All in all a good mouse for office and multimedia.
I bought this one because I wanted a new mouse (and also keyboard) with bluetooth and multi device support, primarily for my Steamdeck but which could also be used with phone/tablet (for Samsung Dex) and my old Surface Go tablet.
This mouse wasn’t particularly cheap but it was reasonably affordable and had support for three different connections which can be bluetooth (or use the supplied ‘unifying’ dongle for a lower latency connection and which is compatible with other Logitech peripherals). I was expecting it to be quite ‘middle of the road’ for the price but I have been pleasantly surprised to find out that it is a very capable device and in some ways, an alternative for the very expensive MX Master mouse series. Not as premium feeling but functionally similar.
Ergonomics are excellent – it fits an average sized hand nicely with all buttons falling naturally under the intended fingers (and thumb). It has a pleasing slighly rubberised and textured grip which feels much nicer than plastic.
It has an adjustable scrollwheel which can either be operated in a slightly ‘notchy’ mode like a normal mouse but with the click of the button switch above it, can be put into a free spinning mode for moving through a webpage or text file extremely quickly. It’s not quite as free spinning as my daily use MX Master 3 but it is perfectly servicable. Instead of a dedicated left-right scrollwheel on the Master, this one lets you push the main scrollwheel left or right for horizontal scrolling, which is functional but not as nice as a dedicated wheel.
There are the standard L/R mouse buttons of course which fall nicely under the first and third fingers with middle finger falling on the scroll wheel, which is also clickable as a third button if desired.
On the left side of the mouse are three buttons near the top, where the thumb naturally falls on the first one. First and second typically act as forward/back in a browser and the third button lets you select which device you want to use and can be held to iniate pairing.
Also, near the botttom is a ‘hidden’ button which you can squeeze to active gesture control if you are running Logitech Options+ software (which supports this mouse). Options and Options+ software from Logitech lets you remap a lot of the keys on an app by app basis if needed. I generally just tend to use the default settings but it could be useful if you want to take the time to make customisations.
Tracking is decent – I had no problems running it on normal flat surfaces. Bluetooth connection was seamless and quick and I haven’t experienced any glitching like you can sometimes find on bluetooth peripherals. I haven’t really used the unifying connection on this mouse as I bought it to use with bluetooth devices but I have been very pleased with the unifying dongle which I run on my main desktop PC with MX keyboard and mouse so it’s a useful ability to be able to integrate this with one, if desired.
I’ve tried it (via bluetooth) on Steamdeck, Galaxy Phone and Tablet devices and a Surface Go. It performed flawlessly on all of them and was super-simple to pair. As mentioned there is full ‘Options+’ support on a Windows PC and presumably also on a Mac. You’ll need to use third party configuration options on other OSes if you want to start redefining buttons and the like.
I can’t comment from experience on battery life but having used the ‘Marathon’ mouse before which had excellent battery, I have no reason to doubt Logitech’s claims of a long life (they say up to 24 months). The battery is a standard AA type so its easy to replace when you need to do it and of course you can use rechargable AAs such as an Eneloop battery if you don’t want to use throwaway batteries.
So, all in all I can recommend this highly for desktop use. It probably wouldn’t be ideal for fast paced games but for day to day use it comes surprisingly close to an MX Master series mouse, for a much lower price. It’s also ideal for multi-device use (which is why I bought it) – good bluetooth connection and easy to switch with a press or two of a button.
On the whole this is a great mouse. Comfortable to use as long as you are right handed! Maybe a bit light for some.
Although the battery last up to 2 years. It would have been better to see a USB C charging port.
The odd subtle hidden thumb button, as many have said, isn’t great. Way to easy to press it accidentally. I just used the software that comes with the mouse to assign “nothing” to it. So it doesn’t cause any issues.
The software does allow for a range of options to be assigned to every button.
Replacing the battery for the first time after about a year of everyday use, this mouse is truly worthy of its name. Ideal for work-oriented tasks or slower games if you own a portable laptop with USB-C connectors for which there was no viable wireless rotten with such small dongles at the time of my purchase (though old style big USB port dongle is always available under the battery cover), so you need something with integrated Bluetooth that does not need an additional dongle to plug into some port. Triathlon mouse with a battery inside is somewhat heavier than most gamers of fast-paced competitive games would likely like even though the response feels decent at least for recreational purposes. The shape is somewhere between palm and clamp grip types and size is a compromise that works reasonably well even for most 6-footers, unless you are some big foot type with hands like agricultural instruments. The mouse allows for multiple modes to suit different tasks and the other even more likely used feature is the scroll wheel that can be set to clicking precision tasks or fast scrolling without resistance with a push of a button under the scroll wheel, a hidden button for switching between tasks is situated under the side forward-backward, mode buttons where your thumb usually lays and mouse fine tuning can be done with the downloadable Logitech application.
The mouse was bought after bad experiences with Logitech top end Logitech Master MX 3 which is too big and too heavy for laptop use on the go apart from in my case refusing to charge its internal battery which was the reason for return. This will not happen with Triathlon as you can always keep a backup AA battery with you or buy one in shops around. Unlike my older Logitech Performance MX mouse with a replaceable battery, the Thriatlon battery cannot be charged nor used by connecting it to the computer through cable and the plastic cover for the AA battery also includes low friction pads, and thus IF you somehow manage to wear down the plastic battery cover to the point it became lose, for example by multiple falls potentially breaking the plastic cover which was not necessary to insert on older Logitech Performance MX wireless mouse model, you may have trouble to glide mouse smoothly on any kind of surface. This was likely made to make more mouses to end in the trash prematurely during their intended mobile use because there is no reason why this mouse could not be designed without this design flaw. I noticed that the newer batches of my old immortal Logitech Performance MX mouse got smaller gliding pads, so this is likely not a coincidence but an intention to control the service life of the computer mouse to keep the manufacturer in the business, which would be hardly achievable if users would happily keep using their devices for decades, though one must wonder how this business model will work with the intention to lower emissions and reduce accumulating trash other than pretending that during various promotional virtue signaling.
Love the amount of customisation this offers. However its irritating when im using it on closed systems (where i can’t install the, customization software)… because my hands are big i accidentally press the bottom left button, opening mission control (set by default).
Had this for a year now and it’s great. Love how comfortable it feels in my hand and the click between normal and fast scrolling is a must for large documents. It’s well built and extremely responsive. The only criticism is that the sides do get a bit damp due to the spongy material and the left/right click plastic has faded a little. But then again, I do use it non stop for 7.5 hours a day.
It is an excellent mouse I always wanted, I can connect 3 different computers, there are enough programable buttons, it has a superb spinning wheel it can literally spin like a fidget spinner very fast up or down and after all, if it is not good for something or work that wheel is spinning freely it is always the option to switch with a button to normal wheel spinning, where u feel the wheel in the normal way and it will not spin freely, so it’s an excellent way to just set mouse as you want, how you want and after all, it is both Bluetooth or unify USB can be chosen as connection, this is very handy, I am just excited to use this mouse every day and take the mouse with me where I need.
Last year I was given a new work laptop. When working from home it proved impractical to keep switching my mouse and keyboard between my home desktop computer and the laptop so I bought a very cheap Logitech mouse and keyboard. These were fine for occasional use but since I’ve been working at home full time since the first lockdown I decided to treat myself to something a bit better.
The laptop has only three USB-C ports, one of which is used by the dock, and wireless mice with USB-C receivers are as rare as hen’s teeth. So after looking around I decided to try a Bluetooth mouse.
I’m happy to report that it works flawlessly. Obviously it doesn’t work in the BIOS screen but I was relieved to find that it works as soon as Windows boots; the old keyboard and mouse combo wouldn’t work until I’d logged in if it was plugged into the dock.
The mouse itself has a reassuringly solid feel to it, very like the M705 mouse I have on my desktop PC. It moves very smoothly with no hesitation at all. There is a button next to the scroll wheel which turns click-scrolling on and off. Personally I like it off so that I can scroll through code quicker. It is slightly asymmetric but not enough to prevent it being used left-handed, as I do and it can be paired with up to three devices.
In short, I can find nothing wrong with it.
The Logitech M720 is an excellent mouse overall and one of Logitech’s better efforts. Quality of construction is great and has a nice weight and balance to it. Ergnomics are fabulous for anyone wanting a full sized mouse – these seem to be a rarity these days as manufacturers seem so keen to make mice smaller and smaller for the sake of portability. Buttons have a positive click and the scroll wheel is a dream to use.
The mouse can connect either with the USB nano receiver or directly via Bluetooth (the mini receiver has a storage slot next to the battery if not used). The one major caveat is that it does not work well with my Dell XPS 13 9300 (2020) under bluetooth. Essentially, the mouse enters power saving mode when not moved for 10-15secs. It does wake in a split second on movement, but the on screen pointer will skip a full inch or more at the initial movement. This might not bother everyone, but the big jerky jump at initial movment really puts me off. It is especially noticeable when filling in forms where one has to do some typing, then move the mouse to the next data entry box. The unpredictable intial jump as the mouse wakes up makes for an annoying workflow day.
I’ve tried to reduce the overly-agressive power saving feature of the mouse by changing drivers, changing bluetooth settings in Windows 10 (disabling its power management), altering registry settings to change the polling rate etc. No help.
Weirdly, this erratic jumpy wake-up does not affect any of the other three laptops in my household (all Dell laptops, too; but larger variants than the XPS13). So it appears to be a problem isolated to my laptop. Shame, because I really like it and if all I was doing was continually moving it browsing web pages, this jerky issue wouldn’t be an issue at all.
Update 30.07.20 – I’ve now given the M720 to my son who uses it with his XPS15 (no jerky power managment lag issues) and says it’s the finest full sized multi-button & feature mouse he has ever used. I currently use this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07WJSB6RH
It is very similar in shape to the M720 which is my ergonomic preference. It is less than half the price of the M720, and the construction, features, feel and overall quality are also less than half, in keeping with its lower price. However, it does not have the same deal-breaking jerky bluetooth lag, so is a very reasonably priced reasonable alternative with the caveat that it is no where as luxurious as the M720. Such a shame that I couldn’t get the M720 to work well with my XPS13. If Logitech could release an updated driver that was less agressive with its power saving (I don’t really mind changing my mouse batteries every couple of weeks if it means great useability), I’d never use any other mouse!
There wouldn’t have been a second only the man of the house was moaning that his microsoft mouse had died so I gave it up and of course he liked it so much he was reluctant to part. I mainly use it with a Surface as my swipe finger gets RSI after a while, but since I’m more mouse than swipe, not a problem for me.
Anyway, this one was bought via the Warehouse deals. Was supposed to have a scratch but I couldn’t see anything, Bluetooth didn’t work first time but that was soon sorted with a little look on the Logitech website, and then a piece of cake. I’ve spent lots of money on cheap mice in the past but they never seem to feel right even if they work okay. My main mouse is an ergonomic one and this one, which is not ergonomic, is nice to hold and use. A nice bargain.
only used a wireless mouse before, and one bluetooth + wireless device from another that connected to one device that i had to return.
With the 3 device set up, the mouse is connected to my Laptop, Tablet and Phone and is easily switched at the click of a button (the mouse i returned has the switch between bluetooth and wireless at the bottom of the mouse which was not ideal)
It fits nicely into the curves of my hands, i still had the other mouse with me which was shaped in a conventional way and i realised my fingers feel like they’re strained if holding a regular mouse, something i never realised as i’d stopped using external mice for a while but now very important as i’ll be working from home and will be using a mouse more often.
Because it fits nicely into the hands there’s a weird thing that happens where i feel like my hands are almost getting warm and a bit clammy? it’s really weird because my room isn’t that warm but i think it’s the sensation of the material they used, im not sure – however this is a minor gripe
Love the free scrolling feature, another thing that i didn’t know i needed until i had it, never realised how many long documents and web pages i visit.
I don’t really use the gesture button or the back and forward buttons, or the click function of the scroll button, maybe at some point i’ll reprogram them to do something else for me.
I run two PCs and and an iMac. The PCs run a flight simulator and the iMac is in everyday use.
The Triathlon Mouse is now paired with a Logitech K380 Keyboard, that is the one that will access three different computers. The mouse now enables me to use one keyboard and one mouse for all three computers.
The reduction in hardware alone is worth it.
The other point worth making is that these two appliances are fitted with batteries which can be replaced quite simply in the normal way when necessary. This saves problems later if you have kit with internal batteries where you finish up having to dismantle things, sourcing the correct batteries then reassembling everything.
The Mouse is a comfortable righthand fit and I like the button which is under the right thumb which enables you to switch between computers. The rest of the Mouse properties are more than adequate for everyday use. The pairing arrangements are good, I use Bluetooth for the PCs and Logitech Unifying device on the iMac. The reason for this is that my version of iMac does not have Bluetooth 4.
The unifying device is carried inside the Battery Compartment of the Mouse and is simply plugged in to a spare port on a usb hub attached to the iMac.
Very pleased with this setup.
I can’t coment on how long the battery lasts beause I have only used it for a few days.
Upgraded to this from my Apple Magic Mouse and am glad I did. The M720 has a soft, almost rubberised feel to it and glides well over any flat surface without needing a mousepad. The unifier can be hidden inside the mouse, and sticking it into a USB-A port instantly makes the connection but in today’s day and age of disappearing USB-A ports on laptops perhaps a different solution will be needed soon. Bluetooth has been a bit hit and miss – though that could be because my old mid-2012 MacBook Pro is slowly dying. Have set the M720 up to two channels for my MacBook and iPad Pro – switches seamlessly between the two at the press of a button when bluetooth works. Not a huge fan of the scrolling wheel as it feels a bit ‘loose’ but other than that, I’m very happy with my purchase.
Replaced logitech M310 mouse that I’ve had at home for 3 years as part of a mouse/keyboard combo. The M310 was ok but a little glitchy when dragging out large areas in e.g. Excel and you had to consciously go slow to counteract this. It was also a little small in the hand making extended use uncomfortable.
The M720 is the without doubt the best mouse I have used. Its as responsive and accurate as any wired mouse and the extra bulk means it fits beautifully in my hand. My old K520 keyboard works fine with the new receiver, after I installed the logitech pc software to enable this.
I’ve knocked one star off my rating as it is stupidly expensive for a mouse. I would never have paid this if I wasn’t working from home every day currently…!
This is a quality and comfortable mouse. The Bluetooth connection is brilliant. Got a lot of function but did not make the product too complex and confuse to use.
I was a bit worried about the middle wheel as some of the review mentioned it is too sensitive while using CAD. As an engineer I am using CAD and other design software along with the normal PDF, MS office and internet browsing. So the experience of using it in CAD is a bit of concern. However, I decided to give a try and prepared to send it back if it does not work well with CAD or other design software.
It ends up works very well. I figured out that the issue about the middle wheel zooming the CAD window randomly is due to a mis-setting up. The middle wheel has two different setting by simply clicking the little black button behind it.
One mode is for fast exploring which will help the internet or long document reviewing as each rolling movement of the wheel will move the document or internet page with a good ‘distance’.
The other setting is to switch this function to get back to the normal motion which is just like the normal mouse. You can clearly notice the different modes – one is very smooth rolling with very little resistance and the wheel will not stop until you put your figure on it or taking a bit while without touching it. The other mode is with some resistance and you can feel the ‘click’ when you roll the wheel. When I am using CAD, the 2nd mode works very well.
I hope that explains the concern for CAD user and I do recommend to give it a try. I love it for a week of using.
Cheers
The mouse itself is very well suited to the hand. Having worked with this now for a few months, I can say from previously really despising working with a mouse, I prefer this to my mac trackpad. (Took almost 6 years to move me away from being a sole trackpad user).
With my MacBook, this mouse is responsive, comfortable and precise. The battery I can’t say much for yet, I’ll try and update this review in a year or so.
One thing to note is that the mouse would appear more responsive on an apple device using the bluetooth connection as opposed to the dongle. With my Windows (Lenovo) device the mouse is fluid however I did notice a little lag / stutter when using the universal adaptor with my MacBook.
The multi-device pairing works effortlessly, I currently have the mouse paired to two devices simultaneously (one windows and one MacBook). The gestures on my mac work a dream, I do not feel like I am losing much functionality using the mouse over the trackpad as the Logitech Options (setup) included allows customisation of the mouse to include many of our loved mac gestures (swipe windows, expos etc…).
last tip: For the best results – use with a Logitech K780 mutli-device keyboard. This complete wireless setup for the cost is just great!
Very good quality, still not able to comment on battery life, but for 1 month usage I’m impressive.
A little more noisy in comparison with the old one Logitech M525. Bad design decision to use white color for the bottom side. I expect that this bottom white side will become dirty and delighted very soon.
The mouse surface is made of some kind of rubber material, it is durable, I personally prefer a gloss plastic mouses.
Still not able to understand why Intel and Microsoft are not able to provide smoothness bluetooth drivers and connectivity, but this is not an Logitech issue. From time to time if you are waking up your sleepy computer, the bluetooth just not working. Rebooting the BT services, trying to pair again is not working, and every time be sure, if you start your Windows bluetooth troubleshooter after a while the result will be “A general issue occur, please reboot your system in order to fix it” Since ages Microsoft is not able to provide just a working bluetooth solution. The workaround for each bluetooth owners is to prevent energy saving on their bluetooth receiver / WiFi adapter (on modern PCs they are on the same chip).
I have used this mouse for a year at work (software developer) and I love it. I have decided to purchase a second one to use at home. I find it very comfortable, but do have quite, ahem.. small hands *cries into pillow*.. so it might not be as comfortable for someone with large hands. I would never go for a wired mouse, the convenience of wireless is just way too great. I’m not an elite epic gamer who needs a trillion dpi mouse that is so responsive it can detect your movements the day before you’ve even made them. I have changed the batteries on this mouse once after a years use for around 7 hours a day 5 days a week. I have seen some people complaining about the scroll wheel, but I love it and find it very easy to use. Can scroll left to right (when using software that supports it) also with a quick click it unshackles its chains and allows me to fly through pages of code like an absolute madman. I see my colleagues out the corner of my looking at me with pure jealousy as they have to click through 5000 lines of code like cavemen. I don’t use the feature that allows changing of PCs.
Over the past month, I have bought 2 previous mice, both basically cheap and nasty, but the reviews stated they were great (so I guess these people have never used a professional mouse before?) but they were terrible. I have worked in IT and Design for over 30 years and this is the best mouse I have ever used.
The Logitech M720 Triathlon medium mouse is totally fantastic. I have large hands and it fits perfectly and feels very comfortable. There is a slight learning curve with the mouse wheel in speed mode, but you can change this via the middle button if it’s too fast or too precise for you. And when I say precise, I mean the scroll wheel is amazingly touch sensitive, so it takes a little getting used to, but one you do, no other mouse compares with this. You can also change the sensitivity and whether it’s smooth scrolling or not by using Logitech Options free software. Here you can also program all of the 8 buttons to do what you want, and also you can set application specific actions for when you’re using an application.
Using the mouse on any surface is amazingly smooth with zero drag. It has a hibernation option which saves the battery and comes alive as son as you move it with no delay. It has a hidden button at the bottom which is great, I set mine as the middle click and I love it. Oh, and unlike most desktop mice, it has a power on and off button that you only see usually in mobile mice.
The Multi-PC/Device support works a treat and you can set up Logitech Flow, which means that if you have another device like another PC or Laptop, when you move away from the edge of last monitor, it automatically moves the mouse to the other device, without having to select the device buttons on the mouse. Amazing time saver.
All in all, I give this mouse 10/10 and I may buy another in case this one ever fails, though it is guaranteed for over 10 million clicks.
