first class recording TV programmes . only drawback is that it can only record 2 programmes at the same time. reliable re. quality of sound and picture when playing back. very easy to set up and to programmes remote
In the early hours of the morning the motor inside this would start making a loud humming presumably whilst updating???
Obviously if this is not in the room you sleep in then I’m sure that’s not a problem.
Due to this I never have it switched on at night.
Apart from that it’s a good system
The picture quality is good and full HD on HD channels, the interface for channel list is pretty much the same as sky.. it does the job just fine and I’m not paying 80 a month for the service!
Give it a go, Amazon have a great returns policy but I think you will end up keeping it.
It is easy to use and has some great features e.g. can record several channels at the same time and will record the whole of a programme even if you have only started the recording half way through as long as the TV/recorder was on for the whole of the programme. I get some poor reception on some of the channels especially PBS and Yesterday, some programmes are unwatchable. Whether that is the recorder or my aerial I do not know but I suspect it is the recorder as other recording devices do not have that problem.
Manhattan T2-R 500 GB Freeview HD is a nice looking item that was a breeze to set up, it will allow you to record two programmes whilst watching one; whilst not quite as many tuners as our Humax, this is plenty enough, we rarely (if ever) had four programmes recording at the same time on the Humax anyway.
The guide is really nicely laid out, and easy to move through. Recording and replaying is a simple task too. It is good that you can pause live TV when the kitchen timer goes off or the phone rings. The remote control is nicely laid out and easy to use as well.
This one doesn’t have access to the free to view catch up TV channels like BBC iPlayer etc, you would need to buy the T3-R for that (bear in mind the T3-R won’t do things like Netflix or Prime though).
All in all, this is a great Freeview recorder that so far has not caused any problems, it is British designed, and is good value for money at 120.
We had Sky, and have had it for 20+ years. Unfortunately we very rarely watched any of the sky channels and realised we were just paying for the pause, rewind, record and series link abilities.
I was a bit wary about getting rid of the sky box and buying a freeview box, mainly because of the bad reviews. Anyway, I took the plunge, cancelled Sky (that constantly goes up in price) and bought this T2 box and a new aeriel cable. Simple to connect. Works a treat.
Took a couple of days to get used to the remote, but now we have it’s very easy to use.
Like the sky box it records, series links, pauses live tv and has access to 15 HD channels and loads of other channels. As I said before, it doesn’t have on demand, but that was my choice. I’ve seen a review on the T3 and the reviewer has the same opinion that I do. There is nothing wrong with this box. It will do everything you need it to do.
The HD channels are clear and crisp and the audio seems to be 100%.
So far it’s recorded everything I want, and the recording process is extremely simple and all done on one button, record, delete, save, series link.
If it was crap, I would say, but at this time I have absolutely no complaints.
The programmes show well with my indoor aerial but recording is difficult, indeed impossible unless you keep the tv on. This seems to be because the booster attached to the aerial and powered by the hdmi socket on the tv will switch off when the tv is off meaning the signal disappears. But that’s not too serious as I don’t record much these days and for me, the main function of the box is to pause/rewind and get streaming programmes. There may be a way round it but I haven’t found it yet. For the money it is very good and to be fair, they warn you its best to use an external aerial. Trouble is, we are up high and I don’t want a lightning strike.
What annoyed me with freesat was they lost the C4 HD channel, which is a bit rubbish when all the other main stream channels were available in HD (there was a work around for this, but it wasn’t the best and you couldn’t record it).
This freeview option from Manhatten was very tempting because it was a lot cheaper than some of the freesat options out there. This is probably because there’s no wifi or smart TV options with it, it just allows you to record tv programmes and pause them. Which is fine by me as my TV already has all the Smart TV apps etc, so i just needed this option so i wasn’t needlessly duplicating things.
Set up was a doddle and took a few minutes,
Picture quality is excellent, as is the Programme Guide interface, it’s really neat, responsive and does the job really well. You can easily set your favourite channels instead of scrolling through loads of channles you never watch.
The remote is very neat as well and very easy to get used to and use, and you can program it with your TV remote which is a good feature.
All in all, i’m really impressed with this little freeview recorder, comes with a 2 year warranty as well if you register (which was very easy to do by the way), glad i bought it.
The design of this digital box is sleek considering it holds 500 gb of memory which is around 300 hours of tv programs. The TR 2 version doesn’t have any internet capabilities, which means no BBC IPLAYER sorry, but that adds to its ease of use and simplicity.
The only gripe I have with this machine is that it doesn’t allow you to organise the channels into the order you want, even when creating a favourite list? So you’re left with the muddle of programs which FREEVIEW sadly is, with itv and channel 5 programs being all over the place etc. But that’s a minor gripe. The Manhattan T2 500 gb is a fine piece of ki
A really worthy hd recorder made by a British manufacturer. Easy to set up and install. Picture and sound are of a good quality. A nice remote to control everything. The box or unit itself is neat and compact. Nice that Manhattan allow people to plug headphones into the back since many tvs simply don’t have wired headphone sockets anymore. I like the TRASH feature for deleting programmes when you’ve finished watching them. After sending a recorded programme to the trash, you can choose to empty the trash, losing the program permanently, or if for some reason you want to view something again, you can reinstall it again. Program guide is smooth and fast when scrolling. The only problem I encountered which was easily solved was that sometimes there would be a slight stutter in the picture/sound when watching live or a recorded program. Manhattan asked me to tell them the signal strength for the affected channel. I had 100 percent for both signal strength and quality. Manhattan said the signal strength was too strong at 100 per cent and that would cause the aforementioned problems. Between 70 and 80 per cent signal strength and 100 percent signal quality is what works best on the freeview platform. I bought a cheap attenuator from Amazon which allows you to dial down the strength. Hey presto! Problem solved. Perfect picture and sound! Clifford Slug is happy!
