As an older minecraft fan – I found this great fun for an advent calendar instead of a chocolate one. Building the cardboard things was a bit finicky and I imagine a child would probably require assistance. I really loved the figures and the details. Like how the pumpkin cardboard had no bottom so you could put it on the characters’ heads like you can in the game. I did only find one oar for the boat which wasn’t ideal. The dog figure has the most accessories specific to it – but I found getting those accessories before you get the dog a little frustrating. I probably won’t keep the houses or the christmas tree, but will keep the blocks and figurines. Would recommend to buy when on sale.
My son was delighted with this and enjoyed opening it each day. A good selection of things inside. Expensive for what it is but aren’t they all! Was quite a big size though
The figures are plastic which is great as I had a feeling they were all cardboard but to my son’s surprise they are proper figures, he loves his advent calendar.
This advent calendar is great for anyone who likes minecraft!. I have sneakily pre-opened this before Christmas and the figures are good quality. The item blocks are cardboard. The only down-side I would note is the price, I can’t say that the items are worth the price at all, only the figurines are plastic, the rest of the items are just cardboard. But nevertheless, it is still a good advent calendar for anyone who enjoys minecraft.
This advent calendar has a total of 24 openings and in the description it states you receive figures and accessories all relating to Minecraft.
The look of the figures is that they have an almost slight Lego figures feel to it but with oversized heads. My son likes to collect figures so this is hit with him. I do think some days when it is accessories it might not be as fun. However at the end you will have lots of collectibles and accessories to play with.
Overall it is a fun and different advent calendar. Pricing wise it is obviously expensive (at time of review) for what you get but then again for this kind of advent calendars they all have such a high price. So in relation to other advent calendars I do think this price is not that unfair. All in all it is a great option for any Minecraft fan. I know my son is happy with it!
As an alternative to chocolate, we get our kids an advent calendar they can open that has toys or prizes inside. To our Minecraft mad child, this ‘Minecraft Mob Head Minis Advent Calendar’ is ideal. Of course, we got to open it a little early this year, but revealing the small figures is a joy. There is Steve in a Christmas jumper, but also plenty of mobs. The mob heads means that they are oversized little figures that clip together.
The characters are great fun as are some of the accessories, but some days you are going to get some dull wood bits. Once all out you can pop some parts of the box and make a Christmas scene. We found that the toys fitted in with all the other Minecraft tat we have around the house. It seems that the box was a little battered and although large can just about hold the contents. Also, this is an expensive pack and may be best as one of your child’s actual presents before the day, rather than an extra. Still a quality item that will bring real joy to a fan of the IP.
When I saw this I knew that my 8 year old grandson would love it, as he is a keen Minecraft player. The advent calendar is well designed and looks quite the part. The numbers are ease to read and it didn’t all tear round it when the days were opened.
While the figures are pretty cool, there is just the building boxes on some days so it is very hit and miss, but I can understand why, as the blocks are a huge part of building the game on line. My grandson was over the moon with it all.
Seems like most of this is reliant on the cardboard back of the box and not plastic pieces. Unfortunately the box as tightly wrapped and this damaged the box.
Good alternative to chocolate for an advent calendar.
For what it is, it’s a bit overpriced but then Advent calendars generally are. Once your kids are a older, it gets boring buying them the chocolate ones every year and so I’m always looking for novelty ones like this and for my 20 year old son, who even now, STILL plays Minecraft, this was a real delight, and the mob heads are great fun !
Perfect advent calendar for our 8 year old who is minecraft mad. At lot of the accessories for these are made of cardboard though, although the figures you get are nice. 29.99 seems very expensive though and I wouldn’t buy it at that price.
My 9yo son is a massive Minecraft fan and has been playing for years. I love the idea of an advert calendar that isn’t chocolate and gives the kids something more to do that just sit and eat chocolate. It’s also something for them to keep and play with again and again. It does seem a little expensive in comparison to a chocolate advent calendar, but you’re paying for toys essential. It’s not a throw away item which is what you’re paying for. I will say I was a little disappointed in the box though. It’s wrapped in cellophane, but as I’ve tried to show in the photos the box from looks squashed and is all dented. I’m guessing this happened once it was shrink wrapped as these are normally done in a machine. I’m hoping once the cellophane comes off that the box won’t be so dented. I obviously haven’t opened the calendar to see what’s inside as it is an advert calendar. But I will update the review when the time comes to open ring the item in December.
My nephew is a massive fan of Minecraft, I had to endure him making me watch him run around a pixelated terrain on the Nintendo Switch looking at pixelated pigs and cows. However, the game gives him immense joy, as do the toys and various books and magazines/comics which you can get.
So, imagine my delight at being afford the advent calendar via Vine.
The box itself is far larger than I anticipated and, unfortunately, arrived a little bit bashed, but not enough for me to not be able to give it to the nephew come the festive period.
Now, as this is an advent calendar I cannot open it fully and so this is a “partial” review, but, as it is, everything looks great. There are multiple large head minifigs in there, along with various bits and bobs which are instantly recognisable as being from Minecraft.
There is also a story to follow on your phone or tablet via the QR code which I am all for. Not only do the younglings get little figs and a Christmas playset to be getting on which, but there is also an online aspect to it too.
Now, 30 seems like a lot of money for a calendar, and, well, it is, BUT, your Minecraft mad children will go ape over this.
This is a must-have calendar for fans of Minecraft, it contains many different Minecraft items allowing you to build up a little set all through December, they are all very nice, it would have been nice to see a Minecraft nativity scene set but the included items are all great, very happy with it.
There’s a surprising longevity to Minecraft, at least in our house. It gets forgotten about for a month or so, but the kids always seem to come back to it. The open world seems to appeal to them, and over time their adventures are getting cleverer and their builds more ambitious, instead of just wanting to see things blow up which was the initial appeal. And this advent calendar will ensure that playing Minecraft happens a lot in December!
This is a substantially-sized advent calendar box, in a shape reminiscent of some particularly large Lego sets, and in other ways it feels a bit Lego-ish too, with the detachable giant heads on the square bodies. There is no compatibility with Lego here unfortunately, but if you’ve got some Lego Minecraft sets you can mix them together into a single scene, even if the scale is rather off.
The quality of the plastic I’d also compare to Lego, though the connections between head and body are maybe just a tiny bit looser. The designs are bold and it’s nice and clear what’s what- and the purple eyes of the Enderman are still scary even in this cartoon format!
Because of the small parts, I agree with the product’s statement that it’s for ages 6 and up, and I wouldn’t recommend giving it to anyone who’s still got a chance of accidentally swallowing any of the pieces. Like other toy advent calendars we’ve had in previous years (Pokemon last year), not every one of the twenty-four days is an absolute joy- there are inevitably a few days which are “oh is that it?”. The majority are reasonably substantial at least in size, though of course the day when your child opens up the advent calendar to find just a wooden square is going to be a bit underwhelming.
At thirty quid for twenty four plastic pieces, it isn’t great value, but then advent calendars usually aren’t. The full collection of twenty four pieces and the rather entertaining two-dimensional-but-three-dimensional Christmas tree are good fun though, the quality is fine, and for a dedicated Minecraft fan, this will make the month of December a chunk more fun- with a good chance of playability in January and beyond as well.
I always get an unusual advent calender for our granddaughter so thought she would enjoy this as not only is the calender a count down but it has craft items which she is very into at the moment. Quite large with illustrations on the box but obviously not opened as yet so cannot review the actual items. I did open one end of the box and look in without removal and it looks up to standard. A great idea for boys or girls and an unusual calender in that you build the figures and don’t just remove each item.
