There is a reason certain chefs, TV cooks, and cookbook writers use a Microplane grater.
Easy to use, makes zesting an absolute doddle, great on grating fresh ginger, and copes with chocolate perfectly.
I am confused with Amazon asking for a star rating for versatility. Eh? It isn’t a Swiss Army Knife, it’s a grater (there are limits).
Lastly, love the bright, bold, red colour; which goes perfectly with my (accents of pink and red) kitchen and me camper van’s kitchenette.
Two purchased, two cooking areas to make healthy food that will hopefully keep me alive. How’s that for cooking confidence?
Unfortunately, this amazing product first got stolen by my chef partner despite him saying it’s for the house. Then it got stolen by his staff. I’m buying it again with GPS tracking.
This product proves why you shouldn’t go for cheaper brands, solidly built with razor sharp long lasting blade’s and the handle won’t fall off after heavy use like cheaper brands
I’m so happy with this item. I cook everyday and use a lots garlic, ginger and lemon and I used to use two different graters for grating those. Now, I can grate easily those three ingredients with Microplane 46120 grater. So smoothly I can use. I feel that I should’ve used it much earlier. Thank you Microplane 46120!!!
I haven’t used this particular one as I bought it to give to my daughter. I have had mine for a couple of years. It is my favourite kitchen gadget. It easily takes off the rind from citrus fruits without the underlying bitter white pith. You can use it to grate root ginger as well, if you like it fine.
This is the zester/grater to own. Very quick to grate or zest. Amazing product totally recommend it. I’ve owned mine for 2 years and love it. I bought another for my girlfriend who always says how brilliant it is.
Who’d have thought such a simple gadget would be so brilliant. I wish I’d had this years ago. So easy to hold against the fruit fits around curve of fruit like a glove. Then the wow of all that grated peel in a neat pile inside. No more wasted peel left inside grater or sprayed over work top.
The first one is just starting to lose its usually razor sharp edge but is still usable so as long as they are still being made in ten years time I’ll buy another.
Grating Parmesan quickly into a large pile of tasty fluffy ‘angel dust’ saves waste and it makes short work of garlic (less messy than a garlic press) and of course it zests lemons. Lightweight, easy to use. Not too easy to clean but a gentle tap releases most of what you’ve grated. But be careful of grating your fingers.
We had one of these already. Bought this for my dad who got to try it while visiting. He tells me he has used it pretty much every day since. Works well for pretty much anything but absolutely perfect for zesting citrus fruit. It is simple to takes off the top layer with great accuracy while leaving the white pith behind.
This was bought to grate nutmeg. Unfortunately Mrs S feels the rasp is too course for nutmeg … who am I to argue. It appeared well made and the company were gracious and honourable in refunding quickly.
If you want a course(ish) grater this could be the one for you.
Absolutely worth the money if you cook even a moderate amount. Bought one fed up of using a box grater for ginger and zesting, this thing just dissolves garlic, ginger, zest (be careful, can be a little tooo good and you get pith), hard cheese etc. If you like those flavours or have the same grater woes buy one.
Cleaning = rinse then wipe or dishwasher
Only con is that the folds make it tricky to get all the grated stuff out, minor issue just use tip of a knife
After using this, I don’t think I will ever use another zester. It’s easy to use and the colour is really nice. Reason it zests this good is because it is really sharp so I recommend to keep it in its plastic cover while not using.
Wish I bought one sooner, I held off for months as i thought it was too much fur a hand grater! Such a satisfying zest, so little force needed and an incredibly perfect zest and igrate. So far it seems to less sharp than a grater so far less likely to grate your finger!
I bought one of these last week as my old Tesco one had become very hard work to use as I have Rheumatoid disease which affects my hands. It was starting to really hurt and as I love to bake I thought it was time for a new one. I’m so glad I picked this one, I can’t believe how easy and painless it is to zest with it! I made chocolate orange loaf cakes this morning and zesting the oranges was a dream!! It’s super sharp and the zest just comes away so quickly and with zero effort, and it leaves all the white pith behind. I also love the guard that it comes with so no one cuts themselves when it’s in the drawer. And I was able to choose a red one to match my kitchen. Fantastic value and one very happy customer indeed.
I didn’t realise I needed a special tool for zesting citrus fruit – I thought I was managing just fine with a mini-grater. How wrong could I be?
The Microplane Premium Zester/Grater is so efficient, it takes seconds to zest an orange. It gives you just the real flavoursome bit of the fruit, finely shredded with no pith. It washes easily too, with hot soapy water and a sponge – says dishwasher safe, but as I wouldn’t dream of putting a sharp knife in the dishwasher, nor would I put this in. But you probably can.
It is a good, balanced size to hold – zesting is now a pleasure rather than a tedious hit & miss chore.
If you are reading this, then you obviously have the slightest thought of buying one…DO IT.
Many of the recipes I have been trying are American & require a microplane or rasp as they are called in the US. Having once lived in the US for many years I was used to this kitchen utensil but found it somewhat difficult getting one in the UK. When I saw the price I thought it was expensive but decided I needed it. Forget the price, its worth every penny! Forget using a grater to get lemon or lime rind and taking way too much time to get even a teaspoon full. This gadget is incredible, it takes seconds. If you are not particular about the colour of the handle you can pay less. This red one was the least expensive. Every kitchen should have one of these you will have your money returned by the ease of acquiring citrus rind!
