Right from the start I’d say that if you’re a woodworker who rounds off the outside of bowls, kuksas, spoons, etc. you probably should have one of these!
Blade is plenty thick enough for it to withstand flexing. Steel seems to be good quality and holds a decent edge. Despite its diminutive size it’s surprising how much material you can remove in a short space of time, and the ‘throat’ doesn’t get clogged up.
This plane has a straight/longitudinal concave curve, and my biggest disappointment with it is that it doesn’t appear to have any bothers and sisters. This plane really could do with some siblings that cover other various concave/convex geometries so that one ‘set’ would allow you to, for instance, smooth out the inside of spoons and bowls. Other than that, really good value for money!
I love buying extra large or extra small stuff and this planer is just great! Feels so very good in my hands it’s well finished. I don’t have any need to ‘finish’ any parts.
