I needed a more reliable way to reset an annoying ECL code on my car. The Wi-Fi singles are ok and all, but the one I got barely 2 years ago just kept dropping the connection. Not to mention, I had to buy or subscribe to an OBD2 app with an eternal monthly fee. This just seemed like the more sensible way to go.

It works. I managed to not only diagnose to see what the code was relating to but also managed to clear it with no issues. The ECL has since come back on but that’s another story. You can connect this to your PC to update the firmware as well as check and print any info stored from the last diagnostics check you completed. Bottom line, get this tool as it’s fairly cheap and it works.

Good little scanner works well on my Volkswagen group vehicle’s always handy to keep around just remember it’s not a full diagnostic tool but for the money it’s worth it.

I had a small issue with the purchase but the Support staff at TOPDON have been very helpful and I am now very satisfied with the outcome.
I do recommend their products, the built quality is excelle

Easy to use. Picked up the error code and allowed me to clear it. Last time had to call out a mobile mechanic. He carried out a diagnostic and cleared the code which cost me 100. This has paid for itself already.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersConsidering the price, a really good and fairly basic device. Bear in mind it is not strictly a diagnostic tool. It’s a trouble code reader, eraser and “live” data viewer.
Easy to update by visiting Topdon website and downloading the latest firmware April 2022 is the one that was available at the time of writing this. My Win 10 did disply a warning about downloading the update tool.
Long, flexible cable and useful l.e.d. light incorporated into the plug. My car’s OBD port is buried deep under the dash! No reference in the instructions about replacing the battery for the light. Probably a button cell and accessible by removing the small screws on the plug?
Edited to add that there are two CR1220 cells in the plug. Without encouraging anyone to replace them, when necessary, they are easy to access with care. Doing so will probably invalidate any warranty though.
Recommended for slightly more than very basic use.

Works perfect for what i need, had no issues at all with it, nice big colour screen too, and it has a light on end of plug so you can see where it goes without damaging pins.
10 out of 10, perfect and a fantastic price for what it is.
Read one review where some guy says “IT DOESN’T WORK FOR ABS”, well, if you know you have an ABS fault why would you need it diagnosed? You know the problem, so get it sorted…lol

Does the job. Found the fault code and deleted it. Bear in mind that doesn’t mean the fault is cured as I found out a few days later when the vehicle went into limp mode again.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNot a bad little unit. But.

If you are looking to delve deeply into the Bowels of your Cars Electronic Devilry, I would suggest paying more for a higher spec. unit.
That said, it is quite useful for the ‘Home Gamer’ to do a quick ‘Go/No Go’ check for a limited section of ‘Money Light’ codes.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI purchased this as the engine light on my Abarth 595 kept coming on. Each time a garage would read the fault code and I would buy the necessary part (MAP sensor, lambda sensor, etc).

Owning this Topdon reader allows me to read the codes myself. Let’s face it, no garages are going to charge nothing for diagnostics! Using this once it has already paid for itself, identified the problem and it just saves time and hassle with garages and mechanics.

It is a doddle to use. I have close to zero mechanical knowledge and you don’t need it. If you can put a plug in a socket and are literate, this thing is a godsend.

Everybody should own one of these!

Got this for a fault on the car has a handy light so you can find the odb port nice and easy, it’s easy to use and reads all the faults (not that I had many) reset the faults and then waited a few days and checked again it come back with an ABS sensor fault the hubby has now replaced it and it’s fault free.

Really nice robust bit of kit. Very well made . Quite user friendly with easy to use tabs . Really like the light in port connector making it nice and easy to plug in . Can save a fortune in garage bills as just getting plugged in for a simple test can set you back more than this bit of kit cost to buy .

Great reader, works exactly as it should. It has a light on the plug to help you find the socket in a dark footwell, which is a lovely touch. It’s cleared an engine light on our 2006 beetle. Great value for the money, I’ve seen readers far more expensive than this.

Only clears the codes(lights on the dash)..does not tell me anything else..vauxhall twintop 07 plate 2.0 litre turbo…sold it for a tenner and bought SNAPON..ask before you buy if it will read your car before you buy…Thumbs down..oh and I updated i

This is larger than i expected, that’s not a bad thing though.. has a light in the connector to help inserting into ther port on car. Similar items can cost much more so this must be good value.. it’s updatable via usb port which is the older, larger mini-usb type but a cable is included.

bought this cos I upgraded my car and the first OBD2 machine may not have been up to date to cope. Easy peasy plug n play – resets error codes as well. can’t really give accuracy marks as I just have 1 car hence the 4 star, defo value for money, it has a little LED light you can switch on for dark delving under your steering wheel panels.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI purchased this item to study fault codes on a Jaguar. Unfortunately when you visit the Topdon website there are all manner of makes of vehicle but not Jaguar; although, you can connect to any vehicle which is ODB2 compliant, and the customer service for Topdon indicated that it should work for a UK vehicle that was ODB2 compliant. For peace of mind, before you buy, I recommend that you check that the device is compatible with your vehicle by first visiting the Topdon website and check that your vehicle is also ODB2 compliant.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAlthough this will only do generic OBD codes , it does provide the feature of graphing chosen values – potentially very useful for debugging issues.

Also a genius idea was putting a light in the OBD plug itself. The OBD plugs are always in a dark location, so actually quite a nice feature.

So far soo good, saved me at least 30 pounds going to a garage, my brother car had some engine managed light coming up, with this , simple to connect, recognize the connection- showed up the error, we google it , and identified the issue, perfect, little wee device, will keep it in the car , and will scan every so often for any problems comes with everything needed in the package, clear instructions, thank u

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got a quote from my local mechanic 70 to diagnose fault on my car, knowing that both cars had a light on the dash I thought about getting a machine myself.

I am so glad I did! I have now discovered the faults myself, easily and clearly using this machine. The led light on the connector was helpful when trying to find the port in the cars and it was very quick and easy to use.

Now I know what is at fault, I know what to expect to pay for repairs etc

    Would highly recommend

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, really easy to use and understand!
