Once you master getting the thing to clip onto your tins then it is a breeze but it does take a bit of practice to get the right technique. I find holding the handles further down helps.
I got one of these tin openners 6 years ago the price then 9 its still working ok.Decided to get my daughters one they’ve gone up a bit in price but still a good price for something that will last.
I was looking for someone and noticed that I bought mine in Feb 2010. Six and a half years and it’s never missed a beat. Makes short work of Fray Bentos pies and Spam tins. I broke so many openers on those previously, as a matter of fact I bought this with the 15 voucher Fray Bentos sent me to replace a broken can opener 🙂
Brilliant.
Update nearly 2 years later – it’s stopped gripping onto a lot of cans recently, so I reckon I’ll be looking for a new one soon :/
The best tin opener I’ve used. The locking mechanism means it’s good for people with weaker grip (such as my elderly mum): use both hands to close it, then when it’s locked, you can concentrate on turning it not holding it tight shut.
I bought this cause I was fed with struggling with a cheap can opener. it is so easy to use, it opens a can in just a couple of seconds.
A very good product.
It was bought in order to open Fray Bentos Steak & Kidney pies which I find to be one of the most difficult to open. I have four other openers that are useless, but the OXO came up trumps.
Brilliant!
Ok not the cheapest but certainly the best…….ive spent years buying a multitude of can openers and been very dissapointed with the results……this is the bees knees……it does exactly what it says on the tin,or rather the opener…..BUY BUY BUY….
I’d had a “magican” type opener for a while which was getting worse and worse. Tried opening a tin one night and it broke…! So it was a case of a real old fashioned one or maybe this (not a fan of “automatic” ones). This is very sturdy, easy to use and to wash too. It “locks” onto the can which makes it simple. Much better than the previous one and pretty good value.
This is the easiest can opener to use that I have ever had. Over the last few years I have bought several different types including electric and one touch models as I have problems with my hands, but these were all useless for me.
With this Oxo model I was just unpacked the product and was able to use straight away. In fact now I can’t wait to open another can!!
Found it very easy to use and the snap lock keeps the cutting edge on the lid whilst opening the can. Cuts cleanly and easy to release. Also just as important, easy to clean.I would recommend this for anyone who prefers a manual can opener.
UPDATE: 5 and a half years on… and it’s still going strong! Still the best can opener in the world!
