It gives a long lasting shine. The only drawback that it has very strong ammonia smell so you should use it with windows open. Use gloves as well.
If it darkens the stainless steel first, just rub it again and it should give you a consistent result.
Love it ,brings a lovely shine to my silver rings I make and copper ,well worth the money nice size tin will last along time , amazed at how quick it worked made a dollar ring wow the shine is amazing 5 from me
This was a chance find. A really useful cleaner for all types of metals and many other surfaces too. Easy to use with a little elbow grease it will produce a lovely shiny finish. Distinctive aroma. Follow the instructions and do not let it dry on the surface. It could be the only metal cleaner you ever need. (It’s got a royal warrant, so that should indicate quality, shouldn’t it)?
Amazon delivered 3 items in very good condition the day after I ordered them, even though I didn’t use Amazon Prime.
The ‘Peek compound’ was in a tin sealed in a plastic coating – this was also intact and easy to remove.
I would say, if you have any issues with your hands/fingers (e.g. arthritis) this may not be the product for you. Opening the tin is similar to varnish/house paint as it requires you to lever the lid off. I used a spoon handle, but anything sturdy will do – I’d avoid scissors though!!
Although other reviewers noted the product had a chemical smell – which it does. I didn’t notice it once I began cleaning. What surprised me was its colour, blue – unexpected, rather nice.
‘Peek Compound’ is very easy to use, I either dipped a cloth in it, or dipped the actual item in it. It does a great job at cleaning – immediate results, and it’s not greasy. There’s plenty of it as well.
As far as I can tell there is only one other minor negative. ‘Peek Compound’ doesn’t clean small or difficult to reach areas very easily – that may also be due to my big fingers of course.
Try other products such as foam, dips, or a combination of products which suit your requirements. Cotton buds dipped in ‘Peek Compond’ may work, but I didn’t try that so can’t confirm it.
In my photo’s I cleaned an old copper coin (yes I know your not supposed to do this). I used a sonic cleaner (rubbish), then Peek Compound (great results), and finally used the drill buffers (almost as good as new).
I’m a miser, always buy the cheaper cleaning options first, saves wasting money. I use friends/family and website reviews, but check they’re real not adverts.
‘Peek’ is also VERY easy to clean up afterwards. Washing up liquid and a clean cloth did it for me.
I recommend washing whatever you are cleaning in mild soapy water after using ‘Peek Compound’, to remove any hidden residue. Especially if you are going to buff the item with a drill attachment polishing kit. Saves the drill bit getting covered in cleaning compound.
Finally, yes – I would recommend ‘Peek Compound’, but use other products with it if they are delicate or have tricky areas to reach.
Peek is an excellent final polish agent, puts the gloss back on many surfaces.
It also smells like it has some ammonia and can lift some grease, so it is excellent on stainless steel sink-tops and car bright-work.
For best results be generous with it, add water to carry away detritus and stop it drying out and rinse polishing cloth frequently.
I only had one use, at first. After seeing how well it works, other applications are popping up.
My rather nice old non-stick stainless steel omelette pan from JL was losing its non-stick, so power drill application of wire brushes took the rest off, and some of the surface etch.
Then by hand, successively finer wet and dry paper and plenty of water; 180 grit, 240 grit, 400 grit, 600 grit, 800 grit, 1000 grit and then polished off by this Peek.
Lack of time and patience means I’ve not achieved a mirror finish on what had been a dull matte grey etched surface to key the non-stick, but a blind man would be glad to see it, and being stainless steel it still doesn’t stick.
I’ve given the same treatment to a similar vintage milk-pan, and added the before and after pics
Brought up some kitchen cupboard knobs to a shine and it first removed the grime.
Used on an electric buffer attached to my drill – no splatter from this product which was good.
Does a real good job of shining up brass. Leaves a well shiny lustre on brass but be careful to use sparingly and polish guickly before it drys on otherwise its a difficult job rubbing off.
Does exactly what it says in the tin. Easy to use, takes away tarnish and stains due to heat on metal items. Leaves a protective water proof coating. I used it to clean my shower and tiles. Really helps the shower stay clean and water beads off the surfaces after cleaning.
First photo of my 19th century plate which hadn’t been polished for a few years. The second after polishing with Peek does what it says on the tin. Some on here said Peek doesn’t work? Works if you use elbow grease, does a better job than quite a few of the others which are more expensive & require more elbow grease.
Had this little tin for few years now and many used to get off sticky residue . Managed to get an extremely bad scratch on my car roof. Been quoted few hundred pounds to sort after trying various polishes etc. So thought I’d try this after finding it hidden away . Glad I’d taken a before picture as couldn’t believe how it improve the deep scratches, (see 2nd picture). After a good polish, could barely tell they were there ! Did rest of my car for the lighter scratches, and they all vanished.
* Please note this was only temporary and scratches re appeared after rain washed off wax*
Can’t seem to upload images from my MacBook or I could show the befores and afters but I purchased this to polish some very tarnished brass window fittings in my conservatory. It did work eventually, but took a lot of elbow grease – I’d taken the fixtures off to polish them and as an experiment worked a few using raw onion, others with tomato ketchup and a third lot with Peek. The raw onion and tomato ketchup did a great first clean, better than the Peek tbh, but they were all finished off with Peek.
I misjudged this product. When I first opened it the smell was so strong I thought I couldn’t use it. I asked for a refund which I got. For some reason I got a message saying not to bother to return it. In the end I opened the tin and tried again. The smell had evaporated off and in fact Peek is fantastic for cleaning copper and brass. Not so brilliant for cleaning silver but it’s better than the other well known brass cleaning brand. No residue and the shine lasts much longer. I’d be more that happy to repay but can’t find a way of getting through to Amazon customer services to arrange this.
The actual product works extremely well. Cleans silver and metal to a great shine. For really tarnished stuff Autosolvol as a starter is far quicker but is probably too abrasive for long term use which this product is good for.
It should be 5*, I would give it 5*, but it is a typically British product: ruined by lack of development. For something that is meant to be used regularly, coming in what amounts to a small pain tin requiring a screwdriver to open it and a thump with a wood block to close it, is so ludicrous as to be nearly comical. A plastic container would be best. Failing that a tin with a pull off lid as provided by competing silver cleaners.
I have recently decided to get my wife’s grandfathers 100 year old miners lamp cleaned .it was in a shocking state the brass was as black as coal.also a brass clock which was in the attic was subjected to to polish . The results are absolutely phenomenal . I have tried in the past to clean the brass on the lamp with little success. The oxidisation was so bad nothing seemed to shift it I tried all of the big made brass cleaners none really did the job. This cleaner however took what has been a very tedious long job into a five minute affair. It was in my humble opinion amazing. I did use a 000 grade wire wool in conjunction with the polish and the results speak for themselves. It has also brought a high shine to the kitchen extractor hood which is stainless steel. I also cleaned some old silver frames again very old very oxidised and again the results speak for themselves. A fantastic metal polish I have used it on silver brass copper and stainless steel all with the same exceptional results.
I had used a well known brand of chrome cleaner & polish on the unlacquered alloy wheels of my Piaggio MP3 scooter, but the tube ran out before I finished the job. I have used countless tubes of this product for 50 years and have never used anything else, having believed that it was the best. I decided to try another product, to compare the 2 and see if I could do the job with less elbow grease in a shorter time. I read various reviews of products for cleaning & polishing chrome, alloy & stainless steel and I chose Peek 33700 as being the most suitable for my requirements. I opened the tin, to see a light blue coloured, thin paste, which did not feel at all abrasive – not going well, so far, I thought. Well, this was the only polish that I had, so I put some on a damp cloth and started rubbing. In a few minutes, with several dabs of the cloth in the paste, the cloth turned black and the alloy started to shine. I finished all 3 wheels and looked at the results of my afternoon’s work. To be honest, I didn’t think that there was any visible difference between the results of the 2 products or that either product took less time or effort to achieve this. I then used the Peek 33700 on the stainless steel silencer & exhaust pipe. In a very short time, the metal was gleaming, the polish having removed all the surface discolouring and tarnishing. The wheels could do with another cleaning & polishing session, as the corrosion has not been completely removed. Pros – produces a good shine, doesn’t damage the alloy wheel and a 250ml tin will last a long time, even with my extravagant use. Cons – none that I can think of. I can recommend this product’s use on stainless steel and alloy – I was advised by a mechanic friend to first attack the alloy with very fine wet & dry paper, to remove the surface corrosion, before using the paste. I have to admit that I didn’t feel very confident taking his advice and I have given myself more work, but the results have exceeded my expectations. A great product, in my opinion.
