I’ve had the bulbs for ages but somehow didn’t think of purchasing those. Sticks really easily to the wall and looks very smart. It was very easy to connect on the app too.
The quality of this switch is amazing, with compatibility with various types of hue bulbs. The fit and size were also excellent with it working on my wall very neatly. Very easy to install on the wall with the attached removal stickers with no issues with paint. The white backing and switch provides a sleek appearance. Overall great produc
The Philips Hue Smart Wireless Dimmer Switch V2 is an excellent tool for controlling your Hue lights, offering fast and responsive performance when paired with a Hue Bridge. It works seamlessly with Hue bulbs and the Hue Hub, allowing you to adjust brightness levels as well as turn lights on and off with ease.
However, its integration with HomeKit is less impressive. When using the switch with HomeKit, you may notice that the bulbs respond much slower, and you lose the ability to configure dimming or brightening functions. In contrast, when used within the full Hue ecosystem, you can easily control both the brightness levels and basic on/off functions, making it a more effective choice if you’re committed to the Hue system.
Brilliant devices and super easy to set up, you can control dimming with the different buttons on the remote, it is very responsive and the lights change almost instantly , the appearance is very smooth and modern, I only wish the panel was big enough to cover up cavity’s in walls where light switches once were as would save buying third party alternate holders for the remote and would prevent turning off the smart lights power by accide
Contrary to what other reviewers have written, this does not require a Philips Hub. You can use it connected directly to a Zigbee bulb or group of bulbs (known as Zigbee binding) and you can also use it with non-Philips hub products. I’m using it with Home Assistant and a SkyConnect Zigbee coordinator, without a Philips Hue app, hub or anything else.
The switch itself has four buttons that each generate various events (single click, double click, hold, etc). Many cheaper, generic switches do not support Zigbee binding, and work quite well in general — I have bought various of them to try — but it’s apparent that the build quality and protocol support for Philips Hue products is the best of all I’ve seen so far.
I would also say that the form factor and ergonomics of this switch are delightful. It looks great and has a nice clean design. Clearly they have put a lot of effort into the design. Having now experiment with many different types, I’m now going to install these throughout the house.
EDIT: it turns out that these support single-click, double-click, triple-click… right up to quintuple-click events! This means that one switch can control lots of different devices / scenes / events, etc.
Philips hue is an expensive system and can feel a bit overpriced, but this compact switch is actually great value, performs well, and also looks sleek. Makes controling your lights much more convenient, and fits easily on any wall or bedside table.
Very simple to setup and works well controlling Philips Hue lights and devices, but does require a Philips Hue bridge hub. Can be assigned to a room in the Philips Hue app and controls all lights within that room. Uses a cell battery to connect to the Philips Hue hub
Controls any Hue device (in my case for this switch, a grouped pair of small lamps in my living room). Can also be integrated into Home Assistant and other smart home software – this is my third Hue switch and the other two I’ve used in Home Assistant. This one I’m using in Hue on it’s own.
It’s fast to respond, super reliable, and batteries seem to last forever!
Highly recommended.
Use this for my beside hue light that was having trouble connecting properly to Alexa for voice controls. Now after I connected it via Hue app it can just work perfectly independently with the switch beside my bed ! And just to confirm as Phillips make it purposefully confusing I think- you do NOT need a hue bridge for basic functionality (ie on-off and dim ) you just need the app!
It works well and can be attached to the platform it comes with (has M3 stickers on the back) or to any metallic surface you’ve got. Only downside is it’s not Smart so you can’t reconfigure buttons or add more complex instructions to it, but for the price it’s a good switch alternative that you can even take with you around the room to control the light from wherever you are.
I would not buy anything else for hue lights! We have these in each room now and it’s a great addition to our hue lighting. They are easy to setup and the batteries haven’t needed changing in months. Always work and are simply brilliant!
This is magnetic so you won’t need the wall holder if you have something you can stick it to. It was easy enough to set up, but I did think it was a bit overpriced (like everything in the Hue range).
I have flipped my internal door in my office meaning the light switch was behind the door, I installed a hue bulb and this switch to stop me having to channel out the walls and move the switch. It was very easy to install and the dim function is great being an office. I would hands down buy one again for the very same reason if needs be.
The button feels cheap compared to the non Hue labelled button version and it is not compatible with the old version wall mount as in it will not hold in place on the old wall mount. It jus not hold in place. The new version does have some advantages but I don’t like the way it is not compatible with the old mount. Other than that it was a very simple install as expected from Hue. I have 5 of these now n my flat. 2 in bedroom, one in hall (only small hallway). 1 in kitchen and one in lounge but they are mixture of the old dimmer button and the new dimmer button with the Hue which is a bit dissapointing.
I use this with a Sonoff ZigBee bridge and HAOS smarthome server instead of the Hue Bridge. It just required a prebuilt blueprint and functions perfectly and quickly, with 32 possible functions with 4 buttons. It can also factory reset Hue bulbs by holding it next to the powered bulb and holding the top and bottom buttons until the bulb stops flashing. This genius addition astounded me.
Whilst many Hue products are on the high end, the dimmer switch is extremely affordable. However, this does not detract from the build quality (which is excellent) or the aesthetic (smart, understated and blends into any modern home). Additionally, like most Hue products, the device is a joy to use. It connects seamlessly and instantly and i have since used it multiple times a day without a single delay or error. It has multiple different programmable scene selections, making it the perfect addition to your smart home.
As someone who loves to use smart home devices, I was really excited to try out the Philips Hue Smart Wireless Dimmer Switch V2. I have to say, I was really impressed by this device. The switch is very easy to install – it took me less than 5 minutes to set it up and get it connected to my Hue lights.
One of the best things about the Philips Hue Smart Wireless Dimmer Switch V2 is that it’s incredibly versatile. You can use it to control one light, or multiple lights at once. You can also customise the buttons to do different things – for example, I set one of the buttons to turn on a specific light at a certain brightness, and another button to turn on a different light at a different brightness.
The switch itself is really well-designed. It’s small and compact, so it doesn’t take up too much space on your wall, and it has a very sleek and modern look. The buttons are responsive and easy to press, and the dimming feature is smooth and seamless.
One thing to keep in mind is that you do need a Philips Hue Bridge in order to use the Philips Hue Smart Wireless Dimmer Switch V2. However, if you already have other Hue products, you probably already have a bridge, so this won’t be an issue.
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Philips Hue Smart Wireless Dimmer Switch V2 to anyone looking for an easy way to control their Hue lights. It’s versatile, well-designed, and incredibly convenient to use.
Remote pairs easily with Hue setup.
The multi button can be configured to nicely rotate through different scenes.
My only observation is that, in my mind, the single power on/off button should have been at the bottom not the top.
I have quite a lot of Philips Hue lighting plus other smart home equipment. I mainly use Alexa routines to control it all. I have a few of the V1 Hue Dimmers and honestly they were/are a bit of a pain. They would often not respond and just blink red lights. Very intermittent. But the V2 Dimmers appear to be much more reliable and the TOTAL GAMECHANGER is that they now appear in the Alexa devices list and can be used to trigger routines. This means that a button press can turn on/off a whole room regardless of the types of lights installed. You can have a button start playing music or start your robot hoover, or send an announcement or disable a security camera, the possibilities are endless. That functionality for the price is absolutely excellent. But you need a HUE HUB! Be aware.
I bought this for my Hue light setup in the bedroom and it worked well (although it was a bit unnecessary as I had voice control. I purchased my Mother some Hue lights and set them up for her but she wasn’t able to use the voice control so I gave her this – it’s been perfect for her.
It was a bit finicky to re-sync from my lights to hers but it got there in the end.
This is a great idea once again designed by Philips. It requires no other kit to set up with Philips Hue.
Attaching to the wall is quite easy, but one thing that I am struggling with is how to control two different lamps separately with the same remote.
Definitely something i needed at home!
When someone says you’re lazy for using this instead of switching off the light, well they don’t know any better.
It’s not about being lazy, its about being convenient. I think this remote is just the perfect complimentary convenience instead of going over your phone and switching off a light. It’s a great feature to have, and it has a casing as well which you could attached to a wall. It is expensive for a remote but, thats the only flaw I see. It’s easy to install and apply as well.
I have been using Philips Hue products (and compatible items) for some years now. One of the things I like the best is their light switch (that also dims and controls scenes).
I have been wishing for most of this time that I could control other brands of light connected in the Alexa app, not just the Hue products. At last my desires have been fullfilled. Some actual collaberation between 2 companies to produce a great result for home users.
You can now control via single presses of each button, other lights (and probably other smart home devices, I have not tried this).
I have a few rooms with mainly Hue and compatible lights, but still a few other brand lights, which I can now control using the Hue switch in the Alexa environment.
It’s not as fully featured as directly in the Hue app, but it is a huge step in the right direction. This also works just the same on the v1 switches which I also have.
So would I recommend or buy again, well I would have said yes to start, but now I can offer an emphatic YES!
I do really like this and have bought a 3rd party backing plate to sit over the old switch.
I dont want it to fall off so easily when I knock it (the magnetic grip is really weak) and have no interest in moving the remote to another location.
I would glue it to the plate but the battery replacement is on the back so I can’t.
Come on philips most people have a home assistant with your lights so no need to move a remove around want this as a fixed option please or at least strengthen the magnets you use.
I bought this originally not for dimming but to reset Hue bulbs (e.g. to re-pair FROM a non-Hue hub). Normally if you remove a bulb from a Hue hub, it will reset the bulb automatically but not if you use a generic bridge / hub (e.g. Conbee II and Sonoff in my case). There are a bunch of methods to do it without a Hue hub (including simply through Bluetooth + phone) but in my case, using the dimming switch is the fastest and most convenient (and guaranteed to work first try).
Now that I have it, I am also using it for its intended purpose, albeit via Zigbee2MQTT instead. It’s not as responsive compared to using with a Hue hub and require some additional work in HomeAssistant to set up automation for more generic use (such as if you don’t want to bind the switch to a single bulb) but it works well enough. The “Hue” instead of Off button (in the V1) is a decent gimmick with a Hue hub but with a 3rd party hub, I can automate the same thing in HA with the V1 Off button as well so for me, V1 and V2 are basically the same device.
The most important improvement over the V1 switch is that the magnet is on the V2 switch, instead of the wall plate (I can’t fathom whoever designed the V1 and thought it was a good idea to have the magnet on the wall plate). So with the V2, you can freely position (and reposition) it on the fridge, metal desk, metal drawer etc. which is way more convenient and flexible. Obviously it won’t stick to aluminium but that’s physics.
I have a few of these to link to my Hue system via the Hue bridge. They pair via the Hue app really quick and easily
The come with a magnetic holder that sticks onto the wall for an easy place to store them. I also bought a plastic cover for my light switches as the one provided is standalone and just attach to a flat surface
The remote itself is really light and the battery has never run out in any of mine. It has 2 buttons to dim, and on/off button and a button that you can configure in the app to cycles 5 scenes of your choice
Worth while for when you have people over since I mainly use my phone to do my lights
Bought this really just for my Mother as she struggles with tech and apps in her old age. I’ve set this remote to control the lights in her Living Room, saving her having to get up. Simple to understand with a on/off switch and dimmer to toggle the brightness up and down. The hue button I’ve set to 5 different preset levels of brightness, if we’d used colour bulbs they could cycle through preset colour scenes instead.
Honestly for most people just using your phone and the app as a remote will be more than adequate and cheaper than buying a dedicated remote. That said I can’t fault the item as the build quality is good. Please note you can use this WITHOUT the Hue Bridge, point it at the Hue bulbs & hold down the on/off button to pair to them to the remote.
I moved a door in a bedroom which meant the llightswitch is now behind the door. No problem with a Hue bulb and this switch mounted on the wall.
This is the second of these that I’ve bought and they both perform brilliantly. Setup is slightly tricky in that you seem to need to keep retrying the pairing option until it works – the setup on the phone app gives you the option to enter the switch’s ID code and that definitely seemed to speed it up.
Once configured it was a case of mounting it on the wall. I had planned to screw the back plate to the wall (and it has holes to support this) but the supplied sticky tape seems to do the job so I’ll do something more permanent if/when the tape fails.
The switch itself connects to the backplate via a (strong) magnet, so you could take the switch with you / leave it on a bedside table etc.
The switch has four functions: on/off, dim up, dim down and “scene cycle”. The latter seems quite complex to understand and setup and, to be honest, feels like they added it cos they can. The switch would have been far simpler and smaller if it just had the first three buttons.
But these functions do work well and it’s very easy to use after the five minutes of setup.
Recommended.
