I do keep buying this brand as boot drives for any PC I build.

Mostly because they are cheap but don’t suffer from the slow downs when multi tasking that other cheats brands do.

I recently purchased the PNY CS900 Series 2.5″ SATA III 6Gb/s – 120GB SSD for my computer, and overall, I am quite satisfied with its performance and value for money. This solid-state drive offers a reliable solution for upgrading your storage capacity and improving overall system speed.

One of the standout features of the PNY CS900 is its affordability. Compared to other SSDs in the market, this drive offers a budget-friendly option without compromising on performance. It is an excellent choice for users who are looking to experience the benefits of SSD technology without breaking the bank.

In terms of performance, the PNY CS900 delivers impressive results. The SATA III 6Gb/s interface ensures fast data transfer speeds, allowing for quick boot-up times and reduced file loading times. I noticed a significant improvement in my system’s responsiveness after installing this SSD.

The 120GB storage capacity is sufficient for storing the operating system, essential applications, and a few files. While it may not be the largest capacity available, it provides a noticeable improvement over traditional hard drives, especially when it comes to accessing frequently used files and programs.

Installation was straightforward, thanks to the 2.5″ form factor, which fits seamlessly into most desktop and laptop configurations. The drive comes with cloning software, making it easy to transfer data from your old drive to the new SSD without much hassle.

While the PNY CS900 performs admirably, I must mention that it does not come with advanced features such as built-in data encryption or DRAM cache. However, considering its affordable price point, this is understandable and does not detract significantly from its overall performance.

Durability is another noteworthy aspect of this SSD. The solid-state design means it is less susceptible to physical damage, making it a reliable option for everyday use. I have been using it for several months without any issues, and it has proven to be a stable and dependable storage solution.

was initially more than happy with my purchase, good speeds were observed

however, I decided to move the location of the drive in my case, but on removing the screws that held the SSD in place in my case, it also removed three of the four screw holes, I have never seen any drive do that before. Poor build quality

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHad an old Dell N05050, and I mean old, struggled with windows 7. Seven minute boot up. Took a punt on this SSD for less than 8 and installed along with chrome flex OS. Now have a semi usable PC for browsing. Bootup time about 50 seconds. No it won;t play any games but fine for browsing. 8 well spent.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersIf you currently are using a hard-drive as your boot drive, 100% you should be thinking of buying this.
It will dramatically increase you PC’s speed, and for such a low price what is there to dislike about it.

I personally bought this SSD to use as boot drive for a PC I was building. It is fast (500Mb/s), cheap and easy to install.
The reason I like this SSD specifically over others is because of what it looks like.

If you are building a PC and you would like for it to look sleek, look no further. The clean design on it adds a lot to your PC build (unlike some colourful SSDs, not mentioning other brand names)

Even if you don’t care about your computers aesthetics I still recommend this for its low price and reliability.

Used this SSD to to upgrade a 128Gb SSD with windows on as the space was running out.
Cloned the drive and all was good.
    Had no issues to date.
    Decent value too

Took a couple of hours to clone existing hard drive. Fitted internally easily. The initial reboot seemed slow, but since the computer starts in just over 1 min while the previous took over 4 mins. Hence I have what feels like a new compute

I like PNY as a brand, this one went into a very geriatric HP laptop running Windows Vista and installed Linux Zorin, boot up time is nice and quick now and for the price it was well worth the investment to salvage quite a reasonable back up machine to practice Python o

About the cheapest SSD (of a sensible capacity) I could find, and an aging HP laptop with a dead HDD is now happily running Kubuntu and even Win11 at a useable speed.

I’m not sure how Amazon expect a valid rating for “Longevity” when the product has only been in use for a few weeks. It’s still working and shows no signs of failing in the immediate future, if that’s any help. Which I doubt!

Just installed this in a 7 year old laptop.
It was very easy to swap with the old.
Followed by a clean I stall of windows.
It’s made a fantastic difference and really brings a new life to a old pc now boots up on around 40 seconds.
Highly recommended this product and you will b left with a old hhd you can pop in a hard drive caddy

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersVery good drive – have this model in almost all devices. It has no as good statistics as Crucial or Samsung, but its much cheaper and still its good enough to massively speed up any PC or Laptop.
Using these disks for over a year and had no problems, so they are pretty durable too.

120GB is enough for operating system, even so big like Windows 10. Its enough space even for most of software or data. If you are not gamer or animator etc. – you may not need bigger or additional drive. If you are gamer – you may always use SSD for OS, and additional HDD for all “bigger” data. If you are animator, you probably should look for bigger and faster SSD.

Value for money is confusing. On one hand we have pretty low price for 120GB which is enough for most needs, on another hand we have SSD of very small capacity as for this time. On the market are already 1TB and bigger SSDs. Imagine similar situation with HDDs – Someone selling brand new HDDs of 320GB while on market we have already 8TB ? In SSDs its exactly that situation – we still can buy SSDs of 64GB while on market we have drives even 3TB. I would expect rather stock clearance of these sizes, but probably because they are still big enough for Windows 10, they are not leaving the stage.

it reports its temperature to monitoring software (psensor) as 99 degrees Celsius. Closer examination with a SMART tool reveals that it thinks that its external temperature is 99 whereas its internal temp is only 32. Which is a lot more believable. It doesn’t exactly report much to the SMART tool either, for example, there’s nothing about the wear-levelling. A firmware update could resolve these issues although you have to bear in mind that updating the firmware can only be done from Windows and it may erase the drive.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve bought a bunch of these lately for computer builds that I have been doing. I tend to go for these as they’re branded and usually around the 14-16 mark for 120GB. They consistently perform quite well, above 500MB/s for both read and (I think) write.

They arrived quickly, were well packaged and they always mount well; might seem silly, but some SSDs have holes that are a little bit tight for standard drive-mounting screws, and can be a pain to mount without snarling the screw-hole. These were totally fine.

There’s not much else to say, except that given the choice between some of the cheaper brands and PNY, I generally choose these ones because I know I’m going to get something reliable that performs at the higher end of the budget performance range.

I will definitely be buying more of these.
