When these first appeared, I was a bit sceptical of the value of it. But having used the Wireless Go II a few times, I discovered the value. Having a mic that can be passed about is really useful. It also avoids the mic becoming lost or being forgotten. installation is really really easy. Just slide the clip into the holder. It is a solid yet easy fit. Then either use the wind muff that came with the wireless mic, or pop on the “toilet brush” (as my wife called it). But you’d probably have to remove the muff first, and I’m sure the muff will be more effective in windy conditions, than the foam toilet brush
Although it appears to be plastic it’s high grade and has a cold feel as if it’s a metal alloy. It’s light weight and almost perfectly shaped for an easy grip, yet unlikely to slip, thanks to a slightly rough surface. Unlike a standard microphone it has a really long handle which is handy to share it in interview settings.
So what’s not to like? Well when these first came out, the price. I bought it used and noticed the new price now significantly reduce to a fair level. The other thing I don’t like is that there’s no way of switching on and off without partly removing the mic from the holder. The power button is concealed and inaccessible when fitted. This does mean that there’s no chance of anyone accidentally switching this off of course. And given the great battery life, perhaps that’s a blessing.
Furthermore if the foam is fitted, the power and connectivity lights are hidden. So not only can you not quickly switch on and off, there’s a good chance you’d forget to switch it off after using it, especially if you don’t need to remove the mic. This may not be an issue as the battery lasts hours. But you’d probably only discover when you go to use it again to find it’s empty.
I was so impressed with what I received I immediately bought a second one. I now have the option of two hand-held radio mics, which avoids having to buy an entirely new system. The clip-on mic is something that needs fitting and very inconvenient if you’re doing interviews. With one of these, you can simply share the mic like a sports interview, or wear a clipped one and use this for your subject.
If you have the Rode wireless Go system, you need this
Why am I paying so much for a piece of plastic??
It feels wrong for it to cost so much, and yet it feels awesome in hand, its great to use. Only request id have would be to make it possible to stick the mics better to the handle. Every time i take the top windbreaker off, the mic stays in it!
Was put off buying this for a while simply due to price (a bit overpriced for what it is) but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a handy tool to have if you record a lot interviews and thinks alike.
Makes such a difference when interview people. Only bought another one because my mate lost the windshield and there doesn’t seem to be a way to replace them separately easily.
Bought for work in a sports TV production company. We’ve used the Rode wireless mics for ages, this is a great adapter when we’re not able to clip the mics directly to subjects. Probably a bit expensive for what it is, but it’s well made, looks sleek and does the job. Hard to fault!
I used this to turn a Wireless Go II and Lav Go into a headset for an improv show, Worked great.
You can turn the transmitter on and off using the power button without hearing a thump. It is a little odd that it is so close to your mouth, but its fine when you get used to it.
Would have been nice to have a flesh-coloured option, but I guess the mic is black anyway.
We were using rode goes with lap mics for streaming games but some of the commentators wanted to hold a physical mic so rather than changing the whole set up this was a great option so much so I bought a second
Pros:
-a cheap alternative to buying an interview mic if you already own the wireless go 1 or 2 kit
-included wind shield
-takes about 10 seconds to fully set up via cold shoe mount
Cons:
-it feels cheap. Handle is very thin and made from plastic. No weight to it at all.
Expensive for what it is, but it does do what it says on the side of the tin as they say. It works really well and it’s worth getting if you are in the market for a mic holder like this. If only it were a little cheape
Purchased 2 of these for my Rode Wireless Go 2.
They are a nice additional and allow the Gos to look a lot more professional on camera for interviews and for people who prefer to hold something…..
Not very cheap, for what is just a piece of plastic, so would have thought there would be an option of buying 2 at a discount.
Only complaint (apart from price) is the Microphone Windscreen (the fluffy bit with Rode on it) – is not very tight, so in windy conditions, i have had 1 blown off the mic.
Simple little handle, useful for things like the Rode Video Micro, which has a cold shoe adaptor, when you want it hand held. No fancy features, just a solid lump of plastic that can screw onto a boom pole or a light stand or simila
If you have the Rode Wireless go I would highly recommend this product. It allows portability for the mic which lets you use the great sound from the Rode Wireless Go on more than one person. The only thing I dislike about it is the plastic isn’t the most comfortable to hold as it isn’t fully round on the handle. Other than that though I love it!
It’s lightweight and it works. However, you can’t adjust anything. If it doesn’t fit your head, you should use a larger or junior size (item comes in three sizes).
Rode lav mics fit perfectly. Unfortunately, you can’t extend them outwards for people with beards or curve it in relation to the distance to mouth.
The cable doesn’t fit easily in the plastic holder at the back. Whenever I have to place the cable into the holder or take it out, I fear of damaging my mic.
Yes, it’s a nice addition as you can use your Rode lavalier as a headset, but it doesn’t replace a true headset mic.
Simple design, works well. I was concerned about choosing the right size as there didn’t seem to be a size guide. I chose the medium size which fits perfectly; I’m quite tall, 6’1″ (186cm) weigh 86 kilos… maybe this gives you an idea on order sizes…
These little mic holders have kind of changed my life as a filmmaker. All too often on corporate shoots there’s no budget for a separate sound recordist and hiding mics without causing rustle is the bane of my existence! These covers work so well, stuck directly to the skin with a shirt over them it’s very rare to hear a rustle.
The only complaint I have is the stickers that come with are very fiddly – I use these with Rycote undercover stickers instead – perfect combo!
Decided to purchase one of these INVISILAV systems after getting my new Rode SmartLav+, as sometimes I don’t want to have the lavalier microphone in shot. Product is very good, wish it did come with more tape though, as I did use up most of the tape it came with rather quickly, this problem can be quickly solved by purchasing some medical/skin tape though!
Great for holding microphones and other coldshoe mount devices, however I feel a little overpriced. It is only a piece of plastic, really, however there does seem to be a lack of alternatives out there.
It is handy though, and comes with a little cable tidy too to hide your XLR away out of sight, and there is a screw thread on the bottom to attach to a boom pole or microphone stand.
If you are purchasing to remove handling noise from your shotgun microphone, you may want to purchase a suspension system, as this does not reduce handling noise that much (it simply travels through the plastic and through the mount into the microphone itself). As a hand grip, however, it does the job, and provides a nice firm grip that your hand nicely fits around.
