Reawaken a Classic Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.

Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.

o Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.

o Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before your knives break.

Reimagined Story Resident Evil 4dials up the original release’s key feelings of loneliness and the fear of enemies blinded by zealotry, while providing more nuanced depictions of the character motivations and relationships that defined the 2005 survival horror icon.

Sophisticated Visuals – Built on Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 4 delivers breathtakingly photorealistic visuals in 4K, complete with stunning lighting and pooling shadows to create an up-close, intense atmosphere.

Haven’t played the game yet but based off my experiance with the RE2 Remake and RE4 Being one of the best games of all time I’m expecting & assuming this will also be a great game.
Let’s hope the game lives up to those expectations although games living up to they’re hype seems to be too much to ask for these days.

One of my favourite games ever just got even better.

The pace and tempo of the game is on point from exploration, puzzles, intense combat and epic boss battles.

The combat is satisfying no matter which weapon you use and there’s a great variety to choose from.

I can’t recommend this game enough whether you’re a fan of the original, series or new to resident evil. What a game

Capcom have outdone themselves again with another stunning remake. The controls are smoother and fluid, the atmosphere is more foreboding, while remaining faithful to the original. Already played this 5 times through and I cannot get enough of it. A couple of minor downsides is the change of voice actors for both the merchant and Ada. If you’re a fan of the original, any resident evil game, or are looking to simply try the series for the first time, then I highly recommend playing this.

    Resident Evil 4

9/10 – The game is a faithful recreation that completely reinvigorates a true classic, bringing it into modern times for a whole new generation of gamers to experience and older generations to experience it as if it were brand new again.

Putting aside some minor aiming issues due to deadzone etc – the odd graphical anomaly or performance woe. This title is solid from start to finish and chock full of great new additions, fixes and content to keep both new and old entertained for hours.

I played through this title on a series X and can honestly say I didn’t notice much in the way of technical hiccups. It’s just as tense, fun, scary and exciting as I remember back when I played it on GameCube – in fact, I think this remake fixes the very few gripes I had with the original.

Alongside the other remakes. Resident Evil 4 feels like it got the attention I only wish Resident Evil 2 had in terms of innovating an old title and adding all those extra little goodies. It’s not much, but it builds up to a complete package that feels worth every penny.

A good while ago I played Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube back in 2004. Being alot younger with less understanding of such an epic horror thriller the original was what got me immersed in the Resident evil franchise.

Here we are nearly 20 years later with the ‘Remake’ capcom have really done an expert job of Remaking a modern classic. If you didn’t know Resident Evil 4 already existed you could mark this game as a new IP.

Fantastic gunplay, engaging characters, horrifying boss fights and jaw dropping visuals. Its a marvel in itself running at either 30FPS in hi resolution mode or 60FPS in performance.

This gem of a game is a really treat and I highly suggest of your in to thriller horror titles, shooters, the original or looking for a new and compelling video game this is the one to go for.

The original Resident Evil 4 from 2005 and its glorious Gamecube release is not only my favourite in the series but it is also in my top ten in terms of my favourite games that I have ever played. In the years since I have played the original Resident Evil 4 on various consoles including the Wii and on the Xbox One which is the 360 remaster. Before playing the remake I did go back and play through the remaster and I will start the review by saying that for me this 2023 remake is not as good as the original but it is very good and I will go onto explain as to why.

The obvious jump between the two versions is in graphical quality and it really is quite impressive. The castle section of the game in particular is exquisitely and finely detailed from interiors to paintings and everything in between. The village and the island look great also but it was the castle that particularly impressed with the graphical jump which makes it come to life all the more. The character models look great, although I don’t like some of the models as much as previously such as Ada’s example but it’s not a complaint either.

This leads me into the story and how the characters are portrayed within the remake. I think on the whole that there is much more depth here within some characters and I’d point out Ashley and Luis specifically where Ashley has gone from a ditsy ineffective girl to a stronger, useful, likeable and much more interesting character. Ada in the remake by contrast has been toned down and I miss Sally Cahill’s voice in addition to how she looked in the original game. That’s not say that it is bad and Ada still uses her sex appeal in a way that I would associate with her but it is toned down by comparison. Lastly there is the villains such as Krauser, Sadler and Ramon where I think Krauser of the three has a little more depth in terms of his backstory.

The remake plays like the other remakes and so doesn’t really deviate from that. There are not quick time events here but there are still button prompts that can catch you off guard with certain enemies. Almost everything has been faithfully recreated from the chainsaw madman to the ordinary ganados whether they’re throwing dynamite or an axe at you. Some of the weapons feels punchier such as the shotgun which if an enemy gets close enough will blow limbs off in addition to exploding heads. The treasure system has been updated and now allows more customisation in terms of what gems you match up with the trinkets that you have found within the game and I like the system. I don’t think that there is anything new in terms of weapons and the Killer 7 from the original is in the remake and the actual title of the gun is a reference to another Capcom game that was part of the four games that Capcom was originally making exclusive for the Gamecube back in the day.

    —Elements (scored out of 10)—
Graphics -9- Very good generally with nice lighting and is only spoiled by pop in which features in certain areas and I noticed it in the island section particularly.

Sound -8- Good voice acting but I do miss some of the previous actors. That’s not to say it is bad at all though. The music is just fine and nothing extraordinary besides visiting the trader and at the end of a chapter.

Gameplay -9- It’s still super fun to play with all the running around and combat which is easy to pull off with no barrier.

Lifespan -8- After finishing my first playthrough I do intend to go back to play it again at some point. The first run through took me just over 20 hours.

    —Verdict—
The Resident Evil 4 remake is a fantastic game as was the original game it was based on. The remake sticks to the original with the story (aside from some small alterations), and Capcom have consistently proven themselves as the kings of remakes where the original source material is respected, but given certain gameplay improvements such as a better map which reads items for you, even if you’ve missed them, more responsive controls and cutting the quicktime events.

I do have a couple of criticisms and that is the game feels “more Hollywood” and lacks the camp or silliness within the 2005 game where Resident Evil in recent iterations has leaned into the whole serious big budget film aesthetic which is sad and soulless but it is what it is. The other negative is that this remake is symptomatic of a video game industry that as is with the film industry seems devoid of new ideas. As I have stated and I want to reiterate that this is a brilliant update but it is still also the case that it didn’t really need an update and this is what Capcom and other studios now seem to prioritise instead of new games and there are various other examples that I could cite. That being said though Capcom are one of the best studios in video games and it isn’t a complete botched mess at all, it’s far from it. I’d recommend playing this but I would still recommend the original 2005 game for the definitive Resident Evil 4 experience.

Got the game today, graphics are amazing, the gameplay itself is better than the original. Yes it’s hard but with any hard game you persevere and crack on regardless. Any resi Evil fan will know this if you’ve played the other remakes. Cheesy comments from Leon though, like “where they all going? To bingo!!”. Other than that an epic game so far and can’t wait to play it further.

I loved the first Resident Evil 4 game – in fact I’ve never played a RE game I didn’t enjoy.
This remake has has been produced with so much attention to detail that is surely ranks among the best remakes ever.
The remake of RE2 was great but the remake of RE3 was a tad disappointing due to the missing content and irritating Nemesis enemy but RE4 is a return to form.
I’m currently on my second play through and there will be many more.
The game mechanics haven’t been entirely overhauled but everything which needed attention from the original has been improved along with a parry mechanic which proves to be very useful.
The range of weapons is very balanced and upgrade options really improve the experience with more power, faster reload speed and better penetration enabling the crowd clearance to be a little easier on subsequent play.
If you like action / survival horror games, great story and good game play I can highly recommend this one.

Fantastic Remake that pays homage to the original in the best ways, gameplay is sharper and the story just as fun as it was back in the day. The only change I found disappointing was some of the voice acting this time around, particularly the merchant. Amazing game and a 5 star title

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersCapcom showed us with Resident Evil 2 Remake in 2019 that Remakes CAN Be done really well and that something can be overhauled but still keep to the original. A good game remake should have the same engine with a different bodyshell or even different features.

Resident Evil 4 this time has decided to continue the story line using the Infinte Darkness events and then it explains the President’s daughter being kidnapped. In Resi 2 we saw Ada apparently fall to her doom, the G Virus and T virus being developed, and Racoon City being blown up. 6 Years later, it turns out that a nasty strain of T-Virus has manifested itself into a parasitical type creature called “Plaga” and this takes us to Spain.
The game starts off slow in a rainy woodland forest by brown small villages where we discover a Spanish Policeman being burnt at stake that we could not have prevented. What ensues as we work our way through is more terrifying than we thought.

Here are the Pros and Cons of Resident Evil 4 Remake.

    PROS:
    – Nobody does Survival Horror better than Capcom does with Resident Evil. The Japanese take good quality games seriously and they do not cut corners. The feel of the original remains albeit with enemies that are slightly more detailed now in 60FPS.
    – Beautiful attention to detail in the castle, villages and the map is huge. The amount of game merits the money.
    – Replayability – You cannot finish all achievements in one play through
    – More Weapons
    – New Spanish sayings
    – Music borrowed from Resident Evil Village like typewriter song
    – The action is well paced and there is enough breathing space between hordes
    – Original sounds and soundtrack available so we can have “MORRRIR ESS VIVIRRRRR, MORRIRR ES VIVIIRRR” (to die is to live) and cojenlo cojenlo cojenlo cojenlo in culty repeat (Grab him basically)
    – No more odd camera angles and you can walk AND shoot now. YAYYY!!! That was the worst part of Resident Evil 4. Controls worse than Resident Evil 2. As i kid i got bored playing it quick.

    CONS

    – You cannot store ammo or supplies in the supply chest. ONLY Weapons forcing you to manage the rest well
    – Castle and Gigante – All i can say is “HOW DID THAT GET ME???!?!?!?!?!”
    – The Merchant doesn’t say “What are ya buyinnnnn what are ya sellinnnnn?” so much
    – There is no roll away
    – Leon runs slower this time which is really annoying
    – I know it is the point but there is painfully low ammo on Hardcore.
    – Weapons are expensive at the shop
    – Forced to do 4 playthroughs to get all achievements. There becomes after Hardcore a “Professional Mode” and the achievements rely on beating the game in a certain amount of time
    – Pre-order content should give a weapon instead of just a charm for a bonus perk. Come on Crapcom! Don’t be stingy now!
    – You always feel like you are gonna die. Enemies hit hard here and have not much mercy.
    – Annoying amount of shots needed to kill enemies in Hardcore
    – The Dodge prompt does not even come up a lot of times especially if you are in left trigger aim. This is not right
    – Ashley follows too close or too far and doesn’t stay if you tell her to.
    – Bolt Gun is rubbish
    – Not enough “small keys” in one playthrough to open the locked drawers
    – Roll the dice enemy health. One guy can take 12 bullets to die but the next guy takes 1. Sometimes none and just gets kicked with the other on melee and never wakes up again.

    SUMMARY:

Those who played Resi 4 back in the day will enjoy this more than others but the feel of the original is there plus more. I am happy to play this and with the new remaster, even more so. You can walk whilst shooting now
