This was ordered, delivered and I was eating a roast dinner from it within24 hours! I am a total convert and haven’t used my oven or hob since it arrived. Best 30 odd pounds I’ve ever spent!
Never used an air fryer before but recent health issues have forced me to look at it now. I wasn’t at all sure about cooking anything in it but after four days I took a chance and made roast chicken breast and roast potatoes. I was shocked at the result, it was actually edible. I know there’s a learning curve but it’s a matter of adjusting timings etc but so far so good.
Very powerful so paper draw pretectors blow a little so push it right down but cooks perfectly and quickly. Just found the push button on the handle to open instead i was just pulling.
I purchased this item after already purchasing a much larger air fryer. If you are only cooking 1 item of food or a harmful of chips for example it is far more economical than the larger fryer. The only slight problem is the small silicone tabs that go on the grill plate that hold it in place are very easy to come off when washing and possibly lose before you notice. I would still highly recommend this air fryer.
Bought this as a Christmas present for my mum.
Good clear usage instructions, and a decent size for 1 person. Could possible have a slightly larger drawer to be able to fit a meal in at the same.time but for an air fryer virgin i think it’s pretty dece
Had this for a few weeks now, but mostly just used it for chips (frozen, ex Tesco). Like all tools there’s a learning curve.
I have used it for pork chops – again, learning curve, but they came out pretty much as I wanted them.
Since this replaced a leaky deep fat fryer, I count it as a pretty good win! (there’s no way I’d have attempted to deep fry chops!)
This works well given the limitations of one ‘drawer’ – it’s ideal for smaller kitchens and those of us that aren’t really into cooking.
It’s easy to clean as well.
I have ‘dropped’ a star because as others have mentioned it has a very basic set of instructions and no recipes as such …you can download something but it would have been preferable if this had been included.
All in all though a good buy.
Got this for my 93 year old mother. Very easy to use
Only minus is the mechanical timer which once started can’t be stopped.
Of course opening the drawer shuts off the power but the timer keeps counting down .
Only takes 5 mins to get up to temperature and then cooks about 20% faster than my oven. Great for small portions when I am just cooking for myself. Easily room for a burger and a handfull of chips, or half a dozen onion bhajis, a small chicago town pizza and so on. We also use it for warming up croissants in the morning as it is so fast. And it uses a lot less electricity so I reckon it’s pretty much paid for itself already in the year I’ve had it. Trying to find a liner to make it easier to clean but its a smaller size than most available…
Love this, have barely used my oven since I got this air fryer…
Heat first for optimum use, only takes five mins, I’m yet to attempt cake making but day to day suppers etc it’s fantastic.
Great value for money, easy to clean.
I’ve never used one before and was a little hesitant but I’m now a convert, it’s great. I’ve cooked steak, chips, chicken, jacket potatoes and onion rings amongst others and everything was delicious. I was worried about the meat in particular but after buying a meat thermometer I’m much happier.
I was late to the air fryer party, only ordering this after I’d watched a tv programme bigging them up. Best thing I’ve ever bought! Now I’ve become one of THOSE people raving about my air fryer every 5 minutes
It makes great jacket potatoes. I microwave it then put it in the air fryer – tastes like it’s been in the oven for hours, crispy on outside and fluffy in the middle. Great for one perso
Making chips in this device takes forever. You have to boil then in water for three minutes. You then have to pat them dry and put them in a bowl and spray them with oil. Only then can you place them in the air dryer. They take from 20 to 30 minutes to cook. Sausages can be cooked from frozen. Frozen chips can be cooked in a matter of minutes from frozen. If you use frozen chips, the chunky chips work best.
In the pictures accompanying the fryer there are large heaped plates; looks like they are from the larger model available.
The 2l is really only suitable for 1 person but it does do the job well accepting that constraint.
What a useful bit of kit. Sure it is a fryer par excellence, but think of it and use it like a mini fan oven and its versatility increases no end. Thoroughly recommended and great value.
Finally decided to join the air fryer revolution.
Picked this one as great brand.
Perfect size for 1 or 2 people.
Cooks things quickly and no burnt to crisp items yet. Would highly recommend!
I really love my air fryer I get lovely crispy chicken, chips and other things I cook. Even cupcakes well browned and frozen Yorkshire’s crisp and nice. Recommended to a friend who is also pleased with hers
Still have to wait for it to get to heat
Halve time to ensure you shake thoroughly before replacing and finishing off cooking
Not happy if on highest setting 200 180 slightly better but 160 downwards for preference
Can t actually clean blade for air circulation as behind heat ring
My likes are being able to cook foods without the smell particularly. Really good on sausages and chips.
Also the speed in cooking whilst you don’t have too watch.
My only couple of issues are the fixed ring on perforated tray stops you putting flat dish evenly on top.
A cookery book would be helpful
Bought this for my mum to use and try and lower her energy bills, had a slight issue with a bent plug but fixed this myself, but it does what it’s meant to and is simple to use fir a non tech perso
Only 2 of us here, and this is great. Wedges in it are my favourite. Lost a rubber peg off the rack. Amazon couldn’t help, but Salter solved the issue and sent replacement rack free of charge.
Bought this little air fryer on a sale, for one person. I follow a carnivore diet and is simply perfect for all I need: steaks, eggs, bacon, meatballs, liver, etc. I don’t use any foils, nor oils, as its so easy to clean it literally takes only one minute after every use. No mess, no grease, no smoke in the kitchen. Not noisy, just airflow heard on the background. It takes little space and I placed it on a wooden surface to protect the countertop from cracking. Best when preheated 10 minutes instead of 5. The steaks are perfect every time juicy and delicious medium rare 10 minutes on 200C degrees. If no time and need to prep in advance and freeze, the meat will still be tender and flavourful. Fantastic little gadget! Nothing negative about it, just perfect!
Living on my own now and the wrong side of 60, I was very sceptical of these new fangled air fryer things. I wish I had bought this ages ago. I now enjoy browned, crisp juicy chicken once more.
Bought this 2L one (EK2817) because it was small; with a footprint of about 8 inches x 8 inches and 10 inches tall. It has a round pull-out non-stick pan which is 6.5 inches in diameter and 3 inches deep. It is surprising what you can fit in there; a couple of chicken thighs alongside a couple of sausages with some chips.
It is rated at 1000 watts so just over 4amps: so it should use about 1KwH (a unit) in one hour; normal cooking time is about 15 minutes, so four meals should cost roughly one unit [for comparison: watching some TVs for six hours can also consume one unit]
When it arrives, follow the set up card – wipe it off, plug it in and turn it up and on for a few minutes to shed that new appliance smell.
The main instruction book is online but can be downloaded. Basically turn the thing up to temperature and turn the timer to three minutes. One led tells you it is switched on, the other goes out when it is up to the set temperature. When it is at temperature throw your food in, frozen food is no issue, set the timer for about half the cooking time. The led will go on and off as it maintains the temperature. When timer sounds its very loud ‘bing’ have a look, shake it, turn it over etc or add the stuff that needs to cook for a lesser time. It cooks anything; battered, breaded, vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, bread – just chuck it in. If you are going to add oil, very little is needed – one of those single spray things is ideal
Timer can be turned up but not down. Temperature you can adjust at any time. Unit switches off when timer stops or the pan is pulled out. Pan has a perforated removable shelf; oil and surplus juices drains through this into the bottom of the pan; you cannot tip your cooked food out without risking the oil following it onto your plate. A pair of tongs is really helpful. Case becomes warm to touch and warm/hot air comes out underneath so, if you want to warm your plates, leave them beside the base!
Cleaning is simple; a little detergent and some boiling water and leave it to soak. When the water is cool enough, pull out the shelf if you have used it and sponge/rinse/dry. Then rinse the pan itself out and you’re done. Non-stick coating is really good. Unit has a 3 year manufacturer’s warranty.
If you feel you need to line it, a 5.3 inch silicon liner fits well although any liner will stop any juices draining away, is awkward to get out when the pan is hot and is cleaned the same way as the pan. Anything you can put in an oven you can put in this; foil, parchment, cook-in bags etc.
Very, very impressed
This was bought for a gift, for a lady that has sight issues. It has 2 dials only on it and I thought this would be simple enough for her to use. One dial is time and the other temperature. The product works fine and any issues that we have had have been operator troubles only, at 90 years plus this new way of cooking is not coming easy to her, but I shall persivere. There is no issue with the product itself, it works well. I would like to comment on one downside, the size is quite small, I think the drawer measures 6.5 inch so its hard to purchase any container for it, not impossible though. I think the only people that would purchase would be single or couples only anyway knowing this was a small size, it was excellent value, if I were to buy again I think I would purchase the next size up, just for better options though. If you are single its great.
The great mistake is to think of this as fryer. I have tried potato chips, and I can understand the disappointment. I didn’t buy it for that, but to use as a cheap replacement for an oven in the campaign to use less electricity. My diet was very much cooking fresh chill dishes in the oven – dividing into 2 for 2 meals. Didn’t see why an energy crisis should make me completely change my diet. Here are. things I have tried – a chicken curry which is sold in a wooden container – used micro wave to cook the rice. Sour dough Pizza sold with olives, pepper, cheese and pesto – I add roasted Artichoke. ! whole pizza is too large anyway. I cut it into prtions will go into the fryer, and made 3 meals out of it. Roasted Grapefruit is another treat. In otherwords experiment! I bought 2 cookery books and sent them back realising you could lots of things and what you need to do is to experiment,, making your own after buying a commercial product to give yourself confidence first.
Cleaning – hardly a problem as I have bought a packet of paper liners. Use 1 to line the bottom, one to put the food one, then a piece torn the right size to put on the top, to stop the food from burning (tuck in as you may find IT burning instead.
I live alone and this size is fine for me, and I see that a student could use it in the same way as I do. In terms of saving electricity I am bot heating the whole oven, or much of the kitchen, My perception is that cooking times are slightly less, and provided you are not cooking for too lonf – I have always used less than 1/2 hour , more 20 minutes at 180 degrees I am definitely saving money. Also It is easier to make 2 portions out of one prepared meal – then perhaps buy vegetables and mashed potato to heat in the micro wave and serve with. I hope you are convinced it’s not just a substitute fryer, but something you can use in lots of different ways – and this size is fine for single people or students…… and it is much easier to clean than an oven!!
I heard great things about air fryers from friends who have one, and with the cost of electricity going up, I wanted to get something that would be more economical to use than my oven for my dinners for one. Yes, chips was a big selling point! One friend in the US has a brand not available here, and the other friend actually had this model, and loved it so much his sister and her 2 kids ended up buying one! (He had upgraded when this one broke after 4 years and regrets not sticking with this one, which helped me decide to buy)
It was delivered with the address label on the box, which is good for reducing packaging, but not good if you are buying as a gift. The box says to check out the website for recipes, which is handy as there is minimal instructions with the machine itself. Basically, chips. The recipes on the website are meat-based, so no good for vegetarians/ vegans. But there are more chips recipes.
It’s not too big (see photo) so doesn’t take up that much room on the counter. The settings on the unit are helpful, but I found confusing. Is this for frozen or fresh? I’ve ended up just experimenting. This really isn’t a fryer, so don’t expect real crispy chips. With frozen ones, I found the ones that are just potato and oil the best. They do come out real hot.
For cooking other things, I wish there was some sort of indication of what if any difference you need in heat/time adjustments. I heard that it is quicker, and food manufacturers don’t have air fryer times yet on their packaging. If my quiche says 15 mins @ 160c, do I need to adjust that? Again, I have been experimenting, but some sort of instructions on that would be helpful.
I like that it pre-heats in 5 minutes. That alone is probably saving lots of money over the oven! The timer knob tho..it’s not adjustable. So if you turn it for too long a time, set an alarm on your phone for the right time.
It’s best not to put too much in as you have to shake the basket occasionally to ensure even cooking. I found the less I put in the better it cooks.
I’ve tried looking for more recipes online, but most of them are from the US or not suitable for vegetarians. I’ve had mine for a month and I’ve only used it for chips (fresh & frozen) and reheating things like pies, pasties & quiches. It does the job well, and hopefully will help keep the electric bill down!
