This is the best knife and scissors sharpener I have used. It is extremely effective and simple to in operation. I have had a session with some seriously blunt knives in the kitchen, as well as a kitchen devil scissors and with little effort they are all now sharp again. It has also honed my Swiss Army pocket knife blades. I must watch my fingers now!
Did a lot of research to find one I liked. Very glad I bought this one – very easy to use and knives are kept very very sharp indeed even the seated knives.
I have a mixture of cheap-as-dirt santokus, European chef knives, and some odd mid-range ones.
This thing keeps them sharp enough I don’t need to use a wee serrated blade even for the wintertime tomatoes.
It’s actually a decent little “quick-go” sharpener for the price. I ran my Ka-Bar through it a few times and even on a heavy-blade like that, it started to bring up an edge. Then I ran a hugely-damaged kitchen knife through it and it managed to reset an edge, despite how burred, chipped and damaged the edge is.
I agree that the ceramic isn’t really worth the time, I think you’re always better with a decent honing steel, but for the price, it should be able to deal with any of your kitchen-knives, no problem. I can’t talk about Japanese knives as I don’t use them so best leave that to those who know. I haven’t tried the scissor-sharpening as they almost never work but for twenty-quid and for most home-users, this should be able to sort out your needs, for that price to keep my cooking-knives sharp? I’m in.
I bought this sharpener thinking it would be just okay, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it sharpened my knives. A couple of my knives were still dull even after using a wet stone, but this sharpener had them back to their original state in no time at all.
Firstly I know how to sharpen a knife having worked as a slaughter man butchering everything from a lamb to a bull. I wanted a sharpener for my wife to use as I’m away from home all week and got fed up with sharpening 10 knives every weekend the product works well for standard knives I was very impressed just go easy with the tool and find out what works for you , the bread knife and scissor sharpener work very well. I’m afraid when it comes to santoku knives it simply didn’t work so I will continue to use my Robert Welch sharpener for those knives which have a fifteen degree edge that’s why I only gave it four stars.
I prepare and cook a wide range of ingredients. This is only done well with a very sharp knife. The Sharpal ticks all the boxes as it does both European and Asian blade types. Everything from a Sabatier to a Santoku, including a serrated bread knife, with no damage to the edge and fine honing; scissors too. The best tool in the kitchen.
